hi, guys. so last night, i was at home and a little cat showed up out of nowhere in my roof. she kept meowing insistently, and kept doing so for over an hour; she somehow found a way to get into my ceiling, and kind of refused to leave. i thought she could have been stuck there, so i managed to get her out, but even on the ground, she simply wouldn't leave, and kept purring and meowing at me. i also didn't have the heart to throw her out, especially since it was raining yesterday, so she spent the night in my house.

truth be told, i'm not on the ideal position to get another pet at this moment, especially because i already have a dog and (most importantly, on this case) a cat, so i had to keep her isolated from them in a room, in case she has a fiv/felv virus. i tried to contact animal shelters and some people i know, but no one seems to be able to take her in. so, i have no other option but to look after her, me being me.

i already took her to get some preliminary exams this morning, and at first glance, she seems fine, thankfully. still, because of my cat marie, i have to take that fiv/felv test as soon as possible, so (with a negative result, hopefully) i can begin to acclimate them to each other safely.

unfortunately, as you might have guessed by now, i don't have enough money to cover all of these exams plus the neutering and vaccines she'll need. so, i must once again ask for your financial support in this situation! any amount would be a huge help!

hi everyone, perhaps you've seen the posts about my budgie saga before. unfortunately yesterday i found out devastating news. maus (my baby budgie) is terminally ill and likely only has a few weeks left. what started out as slight concerns for her breathing suddenly turned into her liver being both damaged and so oversized that it constricts her breathing. she is not in any pain currently but sadly it is only a matter of time before her liver fully stops working.

while we have moved her to palliative care, i am determined to give any treatment i can, to give her a bit more time and keep her comfortable.

i hate to be doing this, but as a full-time student her vet bills are a lot for me. if anyone has any money to spare, i'd really appreciate the help!!

Warning! Pet illness, xray

A friend of mine a few states away had a pregnant female cat walk onto her porch and decide she lives now. She had 3 kittens. Since my friend/roommate @winterpower98 was looking for her first cat, we (other roommate/bestie, Winter/Gaia, and I) decided to take a trip down to visit and see if one of the kittens would work for her.

The thing is, she did fall in love with one! He's black with white markings, so the 6 year old had been calling him Eclipse. He's, curious, playful, and always trying to get into something. He loves Gaia. I mean LOVES her. And she loves him. Like... emptying her savings loves him.

Right before we arrived, our friend noticed a little lump on his belly. They thought nothing of it. And then, it got bigger. And bigger. And bigger.

After a week, we took him to a local vet to get checked out. He had a umbilical hernia. Luckily it stopped before his diaphragm, but the hernia was severe enough that he would need surgery to close it (a lot of articles talked about smaller ones closing on their own which is why we waited). He would also need special care for IBS symptoms and to keep his hernia from getting injured or obstructed before repair (which couldn't happen until he was big enough to go under anesthesia). He would need to come indoors for his safety and be separated from the others as his sisters pouncing on the hernia was causing issues (a week earlier than the 8 week mark).

I was honestly expecting Gaia to say it was too much for her to handle. Even told her that nobody would judge her for not being ready for that level of responsibility. That we could find an organization that could take him and get him the help he needed and find him a good home. He has two sisters she could consider, there were plenty of shelters back home with cats under a year old, and we could even check the town we were visiting and places on the way back home, so there were options. I knew how much it took to care for a kitten with health issues (my current cat required months of specialized care and there were plenty of scares along the way) and Gaia has no previous experience with cats outside of hanging out with our cats, so that's just starting on hard mode.

After a long serious talk on the responsibilities she was about to take on, she said she knew it would be hard but the thought of giving him up made her sick. That she would do whatever it took to give him a happy life for however long she has him. We aren't rich people, she's going back to college full time, she had only decided on him over one of his sisters that morning, and (again) this would be the first cat she has ever had. She went all in without a second thought.

The original quotes from various vets willing to do the surgery (not all vets can) were pretty insane, but luckily I found a non-profit that did the surgery for about half. My other roommate and I fully support her and chipping in what we can.

Eclipse is 8 week old and his surgery is scheduled in a month, but we are going to call in and check for cancelations since he's reached the minimum weight and age for anesthesia. Winter has been so busy caring for him that she's not had a chance to post about him, so I decided to do it on the drive home. I think the story is important because it raises awareness about an issue most don't know about and shows someone genuinely caring about a pet with special needs. As a disabled person who's went through a lot of ableism and survived abuse, it really hit me to see how much she loves him with her whole chest and doesn't ever approach his issues with anger or blame.

I don't ask for reblogs much, but I wanted to ask you guys to boost this. Edit: Late thing to add on, but a few days after posting this my other roommate/bestie Sarah decided to adopt his sister! Her name is Melanite, but her honey eyes have earned her the nickname Miel. Her and Eclipse have always been very close (often laying on top of each other), so it's great that they'll get to stay together.

Help get Roadkill a life saving surgery

My cat Roadkill has been hospitalized twice (update: now 3) in the last week and a half for urinary blockages and unfortunately his vet has said he is going to need a perineal urethrostomy (for which we were given a price estimate of $1200 minimum) as well as to be on an expensive c/d prescription diet at least for several months if not the rest of his life, or he will likely continue to get blocked which will give him kidney damage and ultimately kill him.

I am a very poor disabled person who cannot afford the $1400 in vet bills he has already had from his hospitalizations (which I had to use my rent money to pay) much less the price for the surgery.

I hate to have to beg for my baby's life, he's such a sweet cat and despite being an avid cat lover and having cats my whole life I have never had a bond with any of them quite like I do with Roadkill, and even just being away from him for a week and a half while he was hospitalized was terrifying and broke my heart.

Please help me not have to say goodbye to my baby

Running this up on behalf of a friend that's not on tumblr but know I am, the initial GFM was for helping with Gloria with cancer treatments, things have taken a turn because of being poisoned somehow by Feliway.

My guess is there was a allergic reaction or possible issue with quality control with the product, but either way

Gloria is hospitalized on oxygen. She's drooling and has labored breathing/lowered heart rate. Her potassium is somewhat low. I don't want my baby to die. Poison control confirmed this is due to Feliway.

I would be incredibly grateful if you could pass this around and even more so if you could toss in a few coins to help keep Gloria around a while longer.

I need some snake help!

helloooo reptile community! About a month and a half ago-ish I got a baby boa constrictor. I didn’t make any sort of post about him (despite my excitement) because I genuinely didn’t know if he’d make it. He came from a non reputable breeder, who happens to be my uncle. My uncle acquired around 10 boa constrictors (I’m not sure if any of them are true red tailed boas) of various morphs, from a guy who could unfortunately no longer take care of them. The female that gave birth to my little guy was already gravid by the time my uncle acquired them.

the pervious owner, to my knowledge, had proper enclosures for them. The snakes all range from about 3ft to 6ft. My uncle is now keeping them all in 40ish gallon bins, with a couple bins housing two snakes. No heating element accept an occasional heat pad under the bin, as far as I’ve seen.

my guy was born at the very end of July, and he only has 3 siblings. Which is not something that is exactly cause for concern, because you know how it goes. As far as I’m aware he’s a red tailed boa x jungle boa mix. I’m not sure if jungle boa is a morph? Or a different species? Anyway, he didn’t eat for my uncle for about two months. He’s just about 5 months old now, and still looks a bit skinny (to me, at least)

He definitely looks a bit beefier at this angle, but you can still see a bit of where his skin seems loose. He’s only shed once, and not in my possession.

He’s definitely still a bit triangular in shape, and you can see a little skin wrinkle near his head in that second picture

he has a great appetite now! He reliably eats every time I feed him. He gets fed every 6 - 7 days and has no head wobble, no trouble striking (he bites the pinkie sideways most times, but he gets it down eventually lol), and seems to just have a good appetite overall.

he’s stronger and feels more sturdy now than when I got him. He doesn’t feel limp anymore and is starting to wrap around his food when he strikes. He’s about 16 inches long at 5 months old.

Info dump aside, should I keep feeding him as I have been? He’s eating pinkie mice and seems like he starts to get hungry after 5 - 6 days after eating. I don’t exactly want to pump him full of food since that could be equally as bad as starving. With me he has proper overhead heating, substrate, and humidity gauges so that I can keep it between 50% - 60%. Is there anything different that I should be doing? Other than being a bit underweight, he seems fine! (Two of his siblings have since died under my uncle’s care, so I must be doing at least a few things right)

this past week, i've been bringing my cat wyatt to the vet and it turns out that he has some serious health complications making him sick. he has a low red blood cell count but his body is still not giving up, trying to make more to replace them. we tried giving him a hand with blood transfusions, but something is creating complications; the vet believes it may be a tumor.

an exploratory diagnostic to confirm is ~$800 and if treatable, his options for surgery can range up to $5k. i am desperate to save my best friend or at the very least, have clear answers for him. he's kept me strong through so much over the years and i want to do the same.

Toast Update !

He's doing good- not eating on his own at the vet right now, but energetic and lively, which is good. Very alert, very awake, the vet says his blood work is BEAUTIFUL, so he's doing as good as he can right now.

We need $300 in order to pick him up tomorrow (11/3/24) at 4:30 pm. Currently we have $185 of that. If anyone can help with the last $115 it would be so, so appreciated by us.
