Standing Up For Yourself (Ryuji Sakamoto X Male reader)
Tumblr media
Rank 1
The school is looking just a bit better, despite the many other problems. Now that Kamoshida is behind jails, The Phantom Thieves are making their start. No one knows that it started with 4 students in Shujin, all of them felt victim to Kamoshida one way or another. Even though they defeated him, most of them felt closure, except one member, Y/N.
Ryuji knows his classmate a bit before him joining the team. He’s part of the volleyball team, and whenever he got bruises, he’s more standoffish and more timid then the day before. Even though the teen got his courage when fighting his abuser, Ryuji knows whatever happens still affects him to this day. Knowing he needs a friend; the blonde is more than happy to help him.
“I prefer ramen, but this ain’t bad.”
At Big Bang Burger, Y/N and Ryuji are eating a burger and some fries. “I’m more accustomed to this then eastern food.”
“Oh yeah. You’re from America, right?”
“Yup. Definitely recommend visiting it.”
Ryuji smiles. “Was already on my bucket list.” He takes a bite of his burger. “Jesus… I’m already feeling stuffed.”
“You’re almost done with just one burger.”
“I know, but I’m not used to this.” Ryuji sighs. “I should probably think of burning these calories…” He mutters. That’s when he got an idea. “How about we go running sometime?”
“Like jogging?”
“Sure. Since we’re both on the team, we need to pull our weight. Besides, now that we’re Phant-” Ryuji let out a yelp after getting kicked by Y/N. “I mean, now that we’re… in a new team, we need to increase our stamina.”
“True. I haven’t lost my skills… but it’s probably better to not neglect them.”
Rank 2
On a free day, both teens get in their jogging clothes and run around the area. After several minutes, they stop at the park and sit down a bench to rest.
“How’re ya holding up?” Ryuji says through breathing.
“I’m fine.” Y/N replies. “I have to say, I did miss this.”
“Running and sweating?”
“Yeah. There is just something fun about it.”
“I know, right?” Ryuji agrees wholeheartedly. His smiles drop. “…Do you also miss being in the volleyball team?”
“…Sorta.” Y/N answers. “I miss my friends and moving my body… but I couldn’t look at it the same way then before all this happened.” He let out a sigh.
“Do you think you will ever rejoin?”
“I doubt that. Anyway… how about we continue running. Bet I’m faster than that.”
Without a respond, he runs away, with Ryuji quickly following him. Tbe blonde did notice Y/N quickly changing the conversation.
Rank 3
Both teen run again. They rest again at the same bench then before.
“I’ve been meaning to tell you something.” Ryuji speaks up as they both do some stretches. Y/N is curious what he’s going to say. “I’m sorry.”
“About what?” Y/N has no idea what he’s talking about.
“Before. I didn’t want to pry. I’m just worried about you.”
“Oh.” Y/N put his left foot back on the ground. “It’s just a sore spot… that’s all. But you don’t have to worry about me. With Kamoshida gone, I’m getting better.”
“…But you’re not… fully over it?”
“…Yeah.” Y/N answers with some difficulty admitting to it. “I just need some time to process what happened. I still hold a grudge against him… and me for not doing anything.”
“Y/N…” Ryuji looks sorry for him. “Remember that in the end, you did stand up against him, and you stopped him. And you didn’t do alone. You have friends. And with us, you don’t have to worry about being treated like shit.”
Y/N smiles. “Yeah… That’s true.”
Rank 4
It’s another day for the teens to jog. Each time they do, they get better and better. During their break, Y/N looks at the environment, while Ryuji is drinking water. Far away, Y/N sees two guys hanging around, which reminds him of something.
“I’m happy I got friends like you.”
“Eh?” Ryuji is looking a bit off guard. “Whaddaya mean?”
“You don’t remember?” Y/N asks as he looks back. “You said I’m not alone anymore. And even though I’m often scared to stand up, I remember I’m not alone, and I got support by my friends. That’s why I need to tell you something”
Ryuji is intrigued. “What can I help you?”
“…I’m getting bullied.”
The delinquent looks immediately furious. “What!? By who?!”
Y/N remains quiet. “Look, I don’t want you get into a fight because of me. I want to try to fix it by myself.”
Ryuji can’t believe what he’s hearing. “Didn’t you just said it was nice being supported by friends?”
“Yeah… b-but I want to try to do it on my own.” Ryuji looks doubtful at him. “Please. I promise I will go to you if things go south.”
Though not liking it, Ryuji gives in. “Fine.”
Rank 5
When Ryuji walks in the hallway as he goes to the restroom, he hears people inside it. What makes him worried is that they sound like they’re fighting.
“You really think you’re better than me!?”
“I’m not! But that doesn’t make it right to treat me like shit!”
“But you are!”
Ryuji quickly gets in the bathroom to see the bully closing in on his friend. The blonde quickly runs to him, grabs his shoulder and pull him away.
“If you want to deal with him, then you have to deal with me!”
The bully scoffs. “Whatever.” He walks away, out of the restroom.
The delinquent looks back at his friend. “You OK?”
“I’m fine…” Y/N looks still startled. “Thanks for helping out.”
“You’re welcome. …He’s not going to stop anytime soon.”
“I know.” Y/N respond. “Just let me think of how to deal with it…”
“He won’t stop.” Ryuji said again. “You’re method didn’t work.”
“Ryuji, I need to be the one to stand up.” Y/N says insistently. “I appreciate the support, but I need to be the one to help myself. I can’t rely on others 24/7, but I do on myself. Please, let me think of something.”
Ryuji sighs. “If you say so.”
Rank 6
Y/N once again tried to stand up for himself and end the bullying. He again meets up with his bully somewhere isolated and away from the other group. Someplace outside at the seating area, Y/N hopes his deeds will succeed.
“Look, I don’t want to fight anymore. We both just get hurt. None of this is worth it. Can’t we just move on?”
“Why should I?” The bully responds with some snark. “You deserve it.”
Y/N frowns. “Why do I deserve it then?”
“Because you’re pathetic, even now.” The bully gets closer to Y/N. “And it pisses me the fuck off!”
Suddenly, the delinquent appears with a glare. “That’s enough!” Without bothering for a respond, he runs to the bully to give him a sucker punch. The bully looks shocked, as does Y/N. “If you ever thought you can lay a finger on him ever again, think again.”
The bully tsked. With one glare back at his target, he walks away, leaving the two alone.
“You’re okay?”
“I’m fine, b-but you shouldn’t helped. I had it under control.”
Ryuji doesn’t expect Y/N to raise his tone. “He was just about to hit you!”
“And I should’ve faced it.” Y/N argues. “You can’t always have my back, and I need to learn to rely on myself. But with you helping me, all I’m doing is rely on other people!”
“Well, excuse me for caring!” Ryuji frowns. “All I was doing is looking out for a friend, and you couldn’t even say thank you.” He let out a grown, as both teens continue to look annoyed. “Fine, have fun relying on your own.” With that, he walks away, making Y/N tiredly sigh.
Rank 7
“Don’t you think there is something wrong?” Ann asks to her friend, Makoto. Both of them are talking on the roof. On the other side, Y/N is chatting with their leader and Morgana, while Ryuji is talking with Yusuke. “They used to be inseparable. And now they barely look at each other.”
“Maybe they had a fight?” Makoto suggests. “I can sense they hold some irritation for each other.”
Ann frowns. “And they don’t make things up.” She sighs. “I guess they’re guys after all…” She then has an idea. “We should help them. If they won’t do it, we need to.”
“As much as I would like to help, we can’t force them to be friends.”
Ann thinks of something. “I got something.”
-
After sharing her plan, the two girls got it to action. Ann is currently at Leblanc with Ryuji. When the door opens, the blonde is surprised to see Makoto and Y/N. There is instantly an awkward silence, as the other two walk towards them.
“What’s going on?” Ryuji asks.
“You guys need to make up.” Ann speaks up. “You two were supposed to be best friends. It really kills moral that our two goofballs don’t get along.” So, the other two sits down, starting the conversation.
“How about we start what started all of this?” Makoto suggests. “How about you talk Y/N?”
Y/N sighs. “I got this bully who harasses me.” The two girls look surprised. “And I wanted to deal with him. …I know I’m not the most… outspoken, but I want to proof to myself I can stand up for myself. When I tried fixing things, Ryuji overheard… and punched him.”
“The guy was about to hit Y/N! I gotta do somethin’!” Ryuji defends himself. “I’m trying to help, but he kept saying he can handle it, but this guy won’t stop.”
“I think I know this is about.” Makoto speaks up. “I think we can blame this on miscommunication. Ryuji, do you understand that Y/N wants to improve his self-confidence and be more independent?”
“…Yeah.”
“And Y/N, do you understand despite your protests, Ryuji wants to help you?”
“Yes.”
“And about the bully, how many times did you faced him?”
“Two times.”
Makoto hums. “Y/N, give yourself some credits. You stand up for yourself, despite him not stopping. It takes some real guts to do that. But there are times when we need other people’s help. Let me handle it. I’m sure I can help you.”
Y/N hesitates. He looks back at Ryuji, knowing what he would say. “Alright.”
“Good.” Ann looks happier. “I guess that means you two made up.”
“Huh? We did?” Ryuji asks.
Makoto closes her eyes. “How about we leave you two to figure things out.”
Thus, the two girls left the café, leaving Ryuji and Y/N alone.
“I meant it when I said I was trying to help you.” The blonde says. “And I know you wanted to prove yourself, and you did, but there is nothing to be ashamed to ask help.”
Y/N hums. “I guess so… I’m sorry, Ryuji.” He smiles. “And thanks for being my friend. I appreciate I got you watching over me, like everyone else.”
Rank 8
Inside of the student council classroom, Makoto summoned Y/N and Ryuji to it.
“Thank you for coming.” Makoto speaks up. “Thank you for speaking out, Y/N. I got a lot of info for it, but I’m afraid we need evidence in order to get him punished.”
“Are you shitting me!?” Ryuji yells. “This guy is harassing innocent people, and the school can’t even do something about it?”
“I get how you feel. I wish the school took stuff like this more seriously.” Makoto looks disappointed, but that soon disappears. “However, I won’t let this slide. If the school wants evidence, we will get some.”
“What do you mean?” Y/N asks.
“We record you talking with him, and if he threatens you, and even better, confessed for what he did, then we can use it.” Makoto suggested. “However, that would mean using you as bait.”
“I’m up to it.” Y/N says.
Makoto looks proud at him. “Good. That’s why I wished to speak to you as well, Ryuji. If he tried to hurt Y/N, you jump in. But try not to use violence.”
“As long as he gets what he deserves.” Ryuji responds.
“He does.” Makoto assures. “It looks like we got a plan.”
Rank 9
It’s finally the day the bullying is going to end. Everything has been set up. Y/N lured the bully to the empty student council room with his phone calling with Makoto, who’s recording it. She, as well everyone else of the team except Yusuke are outside of it, who can’t get in the school. Their leader, as well as Ann and Morgana learned about the plan, and want to help, so there they are.
Inside of the room, the bully is quick to glare at him. “You really think third time is going to be the charm?”
“I take every time if it means you’re bullying is going to stop.” Y/N knows he needs his confession, so he gives him the bait. “I just can’t understand why you’re doing this.”
The bully scoffs. “I already told you, you dumbass. You deserve it. You’re just pathetic. It’s no wonder Kamoshida hit you.”
Although knowing he comes out on top, hearing it hurts Y/N. “So ever since he started to abuse me, you think it’s fine to do it to me too?”
“I don’t see why not.” The bully comes closer to Y/N. “What are you going to do? Stand up for yourself. Isn’t it funny how much you try, it’s not good enough.” Right about as the bully grabs Y/N’s shirt, the door opens, revealing the thieves.
“I advise you stop.” Makoto demands. Every member glares at him. Ann is even filming the scene.
“It’s over asshole!” Ryuji quickly gets besides Y/N, daring the bully to touch him.
Being shocked and speechless, the bully quickly panics and runs away, getting pass the crowd of thieves. When everything seems to be over Ann stops recording and Makoto stops calling Y/N. With the evidence they gathered, it appears everything is over. The group walks over to Y/N.
“You did well Y/N. Now that we got this, I will make sure he’s going to punished.” Makoto assures.
“To be fair, he mostly dig his own grave.” Morgana comments with some snark.
“Are you okay?” Ren asks.
Y/N remains quiet for a second. “I… I guess I don’t fully realized it’s over…” The team looks at him with sympathy. “Can you give me some time alone? I just need to process this.”
“Sure thing.” Ann gives a kind smile. “Let us handle the thing. You just make sure you rest.”
With that, the group walks away. Y/N, however, wants one person to stay. “Ryuji? Can you stay?”
The blonde is a bit surprised but find it okay. “Sure.” They sit down at the table. With them being alone, Ryuji can tell how fully vulnerable he is. “You’re alright?”
“I’m fine.” Y/N shows a small smile. “It feels weird though. It’s like when we changed Kamoshida’s heart. I think it’s too good to feel true.”
Ryuji chuckles. “Yeah…”
“But even though I didn’t do it by myself, I feel proud. I feel much stronger than before, even considering what I can do in the Metaverse.” Y/N smiles. “I make sure to never allow myself to be treated like dirt.”
“I’m sure you won’t.” Ryuji assures. “And remember, we always got your back.”
“Yeah.” Y/N smiles. He looks a bit nervous. “…With me getting braver, there is a thing I want to confess…” Ryuji wonders what it is. “I know you won’t make fun of me, and it’s fine if you… decline.”
The blonde looks confused. “No way I’m making fun of you.” He smiles widely. “I’m here for you.”
“Thanks.” Y/N smiles. “I think I like you… as more than a friend.”
Ryuji looks surprised and quickly blushes. “O-Oh…!”
“But like I said, it’s fine if you don’t feel the same!” Y/N is quick to make the situation less awkward. “I don’t mean to make you uncomfortable and-”
“Y/N, wait!” Ryuji quickly stops him talking. “I-I feel the same.”
Y/N then looks surprised. “You do?”
The delinquent blushes hard, scratching his head. “Y-Yeah…”
His teammate let out a relieved sigh. “I guess that makes you my boyfriend.”
Ryuji gives his goofy smile. “It sure does.”
Rank 10
“And? What happened to him?”
At the bench where they stop for resting, both teens sit. This time however, they just chat and eat their lunch instead of jogging.
“Apparently, after some other investigation, I wasn’t the only one getting bullied by him.” Y/N begins sharing the news he got from Makoto. “Mishima and the other volleyball members had the same problem. With so many people speaking up, and having the evidence, Makoto was quick to make him confessed. He’s going to expelled.”
Ryuji smiles. “Good. He got what he deserved. You know, I thought about what happened, but we could’ve avoided this by taking his heart. But dealing with this in the real world, it’s like you said, it makes me feel powerful.”
Y/N smiles back. “I wonder if one day we can’t rely on the Metaverse. But when that day comes, we need to learn to stand up on our own. This was the perfect opportunity to do that.”
“Not just that. You managed to catch yourself a handsome and awesome boyfriend.” Ryuji says with a cheeky smirk. He put his arm around Y/N.
“And that’s because I dared to confess.” Y/N feels really proud for himself. “I was scared for rejection, and I know in the future things won’t always turn out like I want to, but I make sure that won’t stop me.”
Ryuji hums. “Saying you stuff like that makes me wonder how strong I am. I mean, sure, in the other world I am, but here?”
“Ryuji, you never stop yourself for speaking out for injustice. Although I think you can often overreact, I wish I had your spirit.”
“You’re way too sweet.” Ryuji turns a bit red. “Guess this is one of those situations where people say the grass is always better at the other side.”
Y/N raises an eyebrow. “Don’t you mean greener?”
“Oh.” Ryuji looks surprised, though he won’t let that bother him. “Anyway, let’s make sure to stick together. As Phantom Thieves and partners. That way, we don’t get screwed over by any assholes.”
“That’s a promise.”

Tumblr media
Rank 1
Yesterday, Y/N had his meeting with his fellow student council members. There, they discuss the usual stuff, like school events and small problems. However, to his surprise, there is a subject he didn’t expect to be brought up. The infamous student and delinquent, Kanji Tatsumi.
It started off with critiques about him, and only. Saying that he’s disrespectful to the staff, harassing students, skipping classes and failing in all his subjects. Y/N knows him for a while, ever since the blonde joined the team, though he doesn’t know much about him. Still, he can tell that Kanji is a good person, so Y/N was the only one in his defense. Everyone except him thought it is a good idea to expel the delinquent, however, Y/N was heavily against that. One thing let to another, where a deal was made between them. Y/N has to prove them wrong that Kanji is some lazy student that is a menace to the school, or else the council will take action to have him expel.
Starting today, Y/N is prepared to help his friend. Ever since his kidnapping, Y/N knows Kanji is misunderstood. However, everyone doesn’t see it that way. And thus, the student council member walks around the building until he eventually spots Kanji at the practice building.
“Sup Senpai.”
“Hey Kanji. Is it possible that we can talk somewhere?”
Kanji feels there is already a problem if Y/N has to request to talk to him. “Sure thing. How ‘bout the roof?”
And thus, the two got on the roof. Both guys stand around the place where usually the group is hanging out.
“So what’s it? You sound like sumthin’ bad had happened.”
“I had a meeting with the student council yesterday. They were talking about you, specially about your reputation.” Y/N decides to just say it, since Kanji is a guy that don’t beat around the bush. “They are planning to expel you.”
Kanji looks surprised. “What!?” He quickly looks mad. “The hell!? They can’t do that!”
“They can’t, yes. But they can file a complaint to the school, and with enough conviction, they can expel you. But I made a deal with them. I have to prove them wrong about their beliefs about you.”
“Can you?” Kanji looks doubtful at him. “No offense, but there ain’t no way you can look me like sum kinda saint.”
“I don’t have to. What they told, they are mostly complaining about your school performance and your behavior.” Y/N points out.
Kanji still looks hesitate. “Well, whatever I do, people still think I’m gonna kill them. Even if do nothin’. And my grades… good luck fixing that.”
“Look, I know it’s hard. Even if you try, whatever you do, it feels like your failing, but you can’t give up. I know you can do it, and I’m for you.” Y/N reassures with a smile.
Kanji feels a bit better with the support. “That sounds nice and all, but unless ya got some great idea, then ya might as well stop it right there.”
Y/N thinks for a couple of seconds. “How about this? I help you with your homework, so your grades will get better. And about your reputation… I have to think something about that.” Y/N looks back at Kanji. “So, you’re in?”
Kanji thinks about it. He eventually sighs. “It’s not like I got any other choice. Still, you’re right. A man needs to keep trying, even if he keeps failing.” There is a fire in his voice. With his newfound determination, he’s ready to improve himself and his situation.
Rank 2
It’s after school. Both teens are hanging around Junes. They’re sitting at the table, with both of them having their homework out on it.
“So, what subjects are you good at?”
Kanji thinks for a bit. “Gym. And maybe art when I feel comfortable. …That’s it.”
“That’s alright. And where do you fall behind?”
“My Japanese is according to them shit. Don’t understand a single thing about English. Can only do the basics of math. Can’t remember anything from history. I only know where Japan is on the world map. Biology could be better.” As Kanji lists of every class, he looks disappointed in himself. “…So the answer is, everything that isn’t PE and art.”
“That’s fine.”
Kanji doesn’t look convince. “It is?”
“Depends. Do you intend to go to college, or what are you planning to do after school?”
“Damn. Didn’t expect to get so deep when I agreed to this.” Kanji mutters. He begins to think of what he’s going to do after high school. “I’m not sure… Maybe I can work for ma? Definitely not going to college, that’s for sure.”
“Then we should focus on doing the minimum. Let’s see…” Y/N begins to think about the subjects, which best first Kanji. “If we take it that you work with your mother, then we look at the subjects that come handy in your future. English and Japanize is definitely handy, no matter what. Math too, since your working at a business.” Y/N then proceeds to think about the other subjects. “Are you one that thinks visually?”
“Yes? Why?”
“Then it’s worth considering geography. So we focus on those subjects. The ones that are handy in the future and that you can have an easier chance to improve on. And then we allow biology and history to ‘take it less seriously’.”
Kanji looks surprised. He didn’t expect someone like Y/N suggesting neglecting certain classes. “You sure are something else. Every teacher would just yell at me to learn better and not slack off.”
“I’m not saying to you should give up on it. I’m just thinking what’s best for you. I can tell you’re not someone that likes to do homework and even classes. I’m just trying to focus on your good qualities instead of your bad.”
“That sounds smart.” Kanji looks impressed at him.
“Thanks. Now that we have a plan, let’s begin.”
Rank 3
It’s another day of Y/N tutoring Kanji. It isn’t a lot, but he improves. Y/N definitely can tell Kanji is trying his best to understand the subjects. He got often got tips to remember things easier, which he definitely uses. Geography looks to be the most improved, while English, Japanize and math are still a problem.
“And… done!”
Y/N grabs the piece of paper from Kanji. They had an exercise to have the blonde write down his day in English. Not only does he have to write down in a completely different character, but he also needs to remember the correct words and sentence building.
As Y/N begins to read is closely, Kanji begins to look a bit nervously. He wants to prove to his friend that he got better. “And? Did I do good?”
Y/N looks up from the paper. “I can tell what you were trying to say, which is definitely an improvement. You still need to work on spelling and sentence structure. But besides that, you did good.”
Kanji seems to be satisfied with that. “Yes! Man, I’m good.” Y/N can’t help but smile at Kanji. “Before this, the only thing I could write in English was ‘fuck you’. And now I can write more.”
“Hopefully not just cursing.”
Kanji laughs. “Yeah, not just that. Ya knows, I actually feel smarter. I mean, I still feel like a dumbass sometimes, but now less.”
“That’s good. I’m glad you feel better. It’s best kind of motivation.”
“It sure is!” Kanji says with a wide smile.
Rank 4
It’s another day in Junes, with both guys studying once again. This time, Kanji got some good news.
“I got a C in English, Y/N senpai!”
“See! Told you that you can do it.” Y/N is extremely happy for Kanji.
“Thanks man. Without you, I couldn’t done it.” Kanji looks extremely grateful. “I’m really happy you believe in me. For a long time, I felt like I’m on my own. So it feels like to… not feel that.”
“Glad to hear it. I’m happy to help.”
“Speaking of which, did ya got something to help my reputation?” Kanji asks.
“Oh yes! I was meaning to tell you it.” Y/N forgot it after Kanji shared the good news. “I thought real good about it. It’s hard to clear your delinquent status, especially on school. However, I thought of something. What if we don’t purify your reputation AT school?”
Kanji doesn’t seem to get it. “Isn’t that the whole point though?”
“Yes, but I thought of a solution out of the box. So here’s my idea. We’re hosting a charity event at your shop. We even sell your stuff there.” Y/N looks extremely confident in the idea.
“That sounds… amazing.” Kanji seems to be onboard with the idea, but still got some issue. “But… do I really need to let everyone know that I made some of it?”
“Yes. You need to be a part of it, or else it won’t work.” Y/N explains. Kanji looks hesitate, contemplating it. “You alright?”
“Yeah, yeah, yeah… It’s just… You know what happened back in the TV.”
Y/N knows Kanji is referring to. He’s scared that people will make fun of him, just because of the hobbies he’s into. “I understand. I won’t force you to do it if you really don’t want to.” Y/N begins to think of any ways that let Kanji go on with his idea. “How about I contribute? I knit something too.”
Kanji looks shocked. “You are? But- but you can’t even knit!”
“Then teach me! You owe me.” Y/N says playfully.
Kanji laughs. “That’s true. I do owe you.” He thinks about it. “It would make it easier if I’m not the only one that knit.”
“Do we have another deal, then?”
Kanji looks up at Y/N with a doubtless gaze. “Hell yeah! I’m going to make you the best textile worker!”
Rank 5
At the textile shop, somewhere in the back of the shop, the duo is sitting on the floor at the table. Both of them are with all the tools, such as needles, yarn, scissors and other. There, Kanji is teaching Y/N how to knit and crotch stich, one step to another, but Y/N is having some trouble.
“This is harder than I thought, and I already thought it looked difficult.” Y/N comments.
“You just need to take the first couple of steps and focus. You get used to it.” Kanji seems to believe in him like Y/N did to him.
Y/N noticed that Kanji is happier than usual. He keeps smiling, every step of the way he shows to him. “You’re really enjoying this, huh?”
“Yeah. You’re the first person I know that wants to learn this. It’s already rare that others are ok with it, so it’s cool that you actually want to learn it.” Kanji looks extremely happy.
The two continue to knit. One with more ease than the other. Eventually, Y/N wanted a break and requested to go to the bathroom. Once he gets over there and used it, he gets back in the hallway. As he walks back, he spots the mother of Kanji.
“Hello Mrs. Tatsumi.”
“Hi Y/N-kun.” Y/N thought it’s a bit funny that in terms of appearance Kanji is totally different from his mother. Still, Y/N can tell the two get along greatly, remembering that he took care of a motor gang because they made too much of a ruckus that kept his mother awake.
“I just want to thank you for taking care of Kanji.” Mrs. Tatsumi says gratefully. “He was so proud of himself when he got a good grade in English.”
“I’m happy I got to help. He’s my friend after all.”
“I’m glad he has a friend like you. It’s hard to look pass his rough exterior, so not many people have a chance to know him as the kind boy I know.” Mrs. Tatsumi explains with a kind smile. “He talks about you a lot, you know? He keeps talking about how you keep helping him. He was beyond happy when you offered to learn to knit.”
“I have to say, I’m not a natural talent. Still, I’m having fun.” Y/N admits. “Though I wish he could be comfortable with his hobbies.”
“I agree.” Kanji’s mom looks a bit upset. “A natural talent, he is. He’s such a sweet, kind man. I often wish that history could be changed, so that Kanji was never made fun of his hobbies.”
“He got bullied?”
“Yes. It sure is a cruel world that people could make fun of others of the littles thing.” Mrs. Tatsumi continues to look upset, though she eventually drops it. “That’s all the more reason he needs people that supports him.”
Y/N nods. “I have zero intention to turn my back to him.”
“I’m glad to hear it.” Kanji’s mom smile. “Anyway, I took too much of your time. You’re here for my son, not me.”
“Thank you, Mrs. Tatsumi. Talk to you later.”
Rank 6
It’s another day where the two knit clothing and plushies. Kanji is going through the textiles and soon made piles of clothing and other products. Y/N is getting the hang of it, but still is struggling a bit.
“You hangin’ in there, senpai?”
“Yes. Could be better, could be worse.” Y/N replies. He looks around for all the products they made. “Jeez, we made a lot, and all of them look pretty good. This charity event is going to be a success.”
“Speaking of which, where’s all the money going to go?” Kanji asks.
“I found one that helps abandoned and abused animals. How about that one?” Y/N suggests.
“We better! I can’t how people could treat them like shit!” Kanji glares a bit. “I mean, how low can you go to hurt animals! They’re way too innocent to deserve that!”
“Yeah. Its ridiculous people could do that.” Y/N agrees. “You sound like a real animal lover.”
“Sure am.” Kanji smiles a bit. “I always wished we got a pet. I especially love the fluffy ones.” Then he blushes once he realized he said it out loud. “I mean, though ones.”
“I like fluffy ones too.” Kanji feels a bit at ease when Y/N shares the same opinion. “I hope one day to get a pet for my own. What would you rather want? Dog or a cat?”
“Dogs. I love how energetic they are. They are also loyal and always happy to see you. Though I like cats as well, as long they don’t scratch me.”
“Me too. I found them so cute!” Y/N laughs a bit.
The two continue working on the products, all the while chatting about their likes and interests, like they’re the bests of friends. Eventually, Kanji begins to look more stoic, which Y/N noticed. He can definitely tell something is bothering him.
“You alright?”
Kanji doesn’t answer instantly. “Hey, I can talk to you about anything, right?”
“Always. Whatever it is.”
Kanji trusts Y/N. Not just because of what he did the past couple of days, but also back at tv. He remembers the stark contrast between Yosuke and Y/N of how they handled it.
“Remember back at the tv? About my other self wanting to get on with… other men.” Kanji looks extremely embarrassed as he explains.
“Yes, I remember. What about it?”
“Well… what do you think about it?” Kanji quickly changes what he wanted to say.
“Wow… that’s just a question that is… a bit broad.” Kanji still awaits for Y/N a proper answer. “Let me think… I need to word this correctly… Okay, here’s what I think. When we rescued you, I honestly felt a bit sorry for you.”
Kanji didn’t expected that answer. “Huh? Why?”
“Well, your shadow just wanted to be accepted for who he is. Even with his outfit, I wanted to give him a hug.” Y/N explains.
“You didn’t get freaked out or anything? About him keep yapping about liking guys.”
“No, not at all.”
Kanji seems to be at ease with that answer. “Even now, you’re not… uncomfortable with me.”
“I could never be uncomfortable with you.”
Kanji smiles a bit. “I want something to share with you, but can you promise me that you keep it between us.”
“I promise.”
The delinquent knows Y/N speaks the truth. “I think I’m into guys, senpai.” Y/N awaits until Kanji says anything further. The blonde certainly didn’t expect Y/N just looking at him. “Hey! What’s wrong? Say something.”
“Oh, sorry. It’s just that… whether you’re into girls, guys, or both. I don’t mind it. You’re still Kanji, and I don’t look at you any different.”
Kanji is surprised by Y/N’s reaction, but he couldn’t be any happier. “Thanks man. That… that makes me feel a lot better.”
Rank 7
It’s the day of the charity. Signs are in front of the shop, saying today is a charity event, with options for donating. Customers are lining up in the store. Usually, Mrs. Tatsumi is keeping the shop running, but now Kanji and Y/N are attending as well. It appears a lot of people like the idea for donating for animals, as a lot of children visits.
After an hour or two, Mrs. Tatsumi insists that both boys take a break, saying she can handle it on her own for a couple of minutes. Kanji, being the man he is, protest to the idea, but eventually gives up after being reassured she’s going to be alright.
And so, the two get to the living room, both enjoying their breaks with some drinks and snacks.
“How many costumers did you already served?”
Kanji thinks a bit. “Honestly, I lost count after my tenth. Nah, wait, probably before.”
“I already counted some of the money we earned. We’re heading to the sextuple.”
Kanji laughs a bit. “Sextuple.”
“It’s a real word.” Y/N can’t help to smile along, despite Kanji’s childish humor. “Anyway, we already got a big sum, and this is just the start. It’s possible we end up around 300,000 yen.”
“300,000?” Kanji looks surprised. “That’s amazing.”
“Well, with the marketing we did, everyone wants to pitch in. Children especially wants to help out. Even Nanako stopped by with Yu to buy a couple of things.” Y/N smiles when he remembers the two entering the store. “I’m pretty sure she bought something you made.”
“Really?”
“Yeah. A couple of plushies and pieces of clothing. I tried to offer her a discount and pitch in some of my money, but she declined. She said it would be better for the animals she gave all of her money.”
Kanji smiles when hearing that. “She’s such a sweetheart.”
“She sure is.” Y/N agrees. “Anyway, with everyone loving what we made and the charity event doing amazing, I expect this will impact the student council.”
“Oh yeah, I forgot that was the reason we did this.” Kanji was already happy enough to raise money for the animals, to the point forgetting there is a somewhat selfish reason behind it.
Rank 8
Back at school, before heading to the student council meeting, Y/N got to meet up with Kanji.
“Is today the meeting?”
“Yes. I tell you the result. Right now though, I want you to remain calm. Everything is going to be fine.” Y/N feels positive about the situation. After proving that Kanji can get good grades and is a good person, even if they still hold their first impressions, they can’t deny that Kanji isn’t the same person that they think he is.
And thus, the two split up, with Y/N getting to the meeting. Once in the room, Kanji stands besides the door. He knows everything is going to be alright with Y/N, but he’s curious, so he listens in.
The meeting starts, with everyone sitting around the room. After many different problems and other noteworthy subjects, they finally speak about the situation about Kanji Tatsumi. The student council president allows Y/N to speak on the matter.
“We made a deal, where I have to prove you wrong about Kanji Tatsumi. You all believe that he’s a delinquent with no care about his reputation, whether that’s school or his social life. However, I disagree. The past couple of weeks, I tutored him, and it turns out with the right kind of support, he’s a good student. Here are all the grades he got ever since I helped him.” Y/N pass around a report card with Kanji’s grades.
“As for his social reputation, not too long ago, he and his mother had a charity event, where they sold their self-made knitting products. Every pinny will go to a charity that specializes in animal care.” Y/N explains. “This is the prove that Kanji is a good man. Even though his exterior is rough, he has a heart of gold. With that being said, I showed you the truth about who Kanji really is, and I demand he shouldn’t be expelled.”
Every student is talking about it to each other. Y/N can’t really hear what they’re saying, but he certainly let them talk about it.
Kanji awaits a bit until something catches his ears, with the only thing he hears right now is muffling. Minutes later, he hears Y/N yelling.
“Excuse me!?”
“We still are willing to proceed us intend to expel Tatsumi. Even though the choice isn’t ours, we believe this is the best for the students.”
Kanji’s heart broke a bit when he hears that. After all the process he made and deeds he did, it all seem for nothing.
“We made a deal. I prove to you all that Kanji is a good person and student, and yet you can’t even hold your end to the deal.”
“We never said we’re not going to file a complaint.”
“I don’t care. It’s about looking at the facts and looking at it objectively. All you’re doing is looking for it through a lens of false expression.”
“Even if it’s false, the average student in the school holds this opinion. Because of this, they can feel unsafe.”
“This is ridiculous! All you’re doing is making dumb arguments just to hold your wrong judgement. I have zero intentions being surrounded with my fellow members who are not looking out for the students.”
Kanji then hears someone storming towards the door. He quickly runs back a bit, so he won’t be caught. Once he hid himself behind one of the staircases, he sees Y/N coming out of the room, slamming the door with anger. His face looks frustrated and upset. Kanji looks with sympathy at him and reveals himself. Y/N sees him walking towards him.
“I’m sorry, Kanji…”
“It’s alright. I-I’m just happy at least someone got my back.” Kanji looks grateful at his friend.
“But…” Y/N sighs. “Maybe we can go the teachers? Hopefully they’re willing to listen.”
“Then let’s go. No need to be upset when we can still fix this.” Kanji shows off a small smile, reassuring Y/N.
“Right.”
Rank 9
After a long day, they manage to convince the teachers to give Kanji a chance to prove himself. With facts, reason and good arguments, they allow Kanji to continue his studies in this school. After their success, they get to the roof. To their surprise, no one is there, except them. They sit down in their usual hang out place.
“We did it!” Kanji smiles widely. “And now there is nothing to worry about anymore. Wait- scratch that, I still need to study for waaay to many tests.”
“True, but I’m here to help if you need it.” Y/N reassures.
Kanji nods. “Right.”
The two look back at the town of Inaba. From the school’s roof, they can see a big chunk of the small town.
“Hey senpai.” Kanji begins to speak up softly. “I’m really grateful that you’re by my side.” He begins to blush a bit. “I-I made you something.” From his pockets, he grabs a soft, dog plushie that looks like a huskie.
Y/N looks surprised by the sudden gift, but quickly looks extremely happy. “Aww, it’s cute!”
“Thanks, man. I was going for that.” Kanji hands over the plushie to Y/N, who begins looking closely at it, though he soon looks back at his friend, who still look awkwardly at him.
“Anything else, Kanji?”
Kanji let out a huff. “Senpai. There is something I want to say to you. I-It’s alright if you think differently, but-” He stops himself from talking. He hesitates a bit before looking back at Y/N. “Y/N, I-I’m thinking fall in love with you.”
Y/N blushes. His eyes are wide with surprise. “Huh?”
“I-It’s alright if you don’t feel that way!” Kanji quickly blurts out.
“No! I mean…” Kanji wonders what Y/N is going to say. “Kanji, I-I feel the same.”
“You do?” Kanji says with disbelief.
Y/N carefully walks over to Kanji and pulls him in for a kiss. It was brief, but both teens can feel the love they share for each other with just that second. When Y/N pulls back, he and Kanji both look extremely flustered.
“Wow… Just- This was my first time I kissed a guy- or even someone.” Kanji looks amazed.
“Me too.” Y/N smiles. “So… do you want to be my boyfriend?”
“Y-Yes!” Kanji says a bit too excited for his liking. “I mean, yes.”
Y/N smiles with wide smiles. “For our sakes, I think it’s best we keep this for ourselves. Not like it was other people’s business. I say we just see how things go and keep it to ourselves. Sounds good to you?”
Kanji nods, happy Y/N thinks the same as him. “That sounds good.”
Rank 10
It’s a sunny day in the town. The newly found couple decided that it would be nice to go on a date. After figuring out their options, they decided to go picnicking out in nature, where no one is bothering them. They set everything up and are ready to enjoy their date.
“So, I had a meeting with the student council today.” Kanji is intrigued with the aftermath of Y/N’s rant. “I wanted to quiet after all that happened… but I changed my mind.”
“Why’s that?” Kanji asks.
“Even though my opinion appears to be none, I still need to be there. I can obtain important info, and because of that, I can help any students in the future.” Y/N explains. “Even though I don’t like it, I still want to help others.”
Kanji can’t help but admire him. “Ya know senpai, I sometimes envy you. Whatever you want, you’re mind is set to it. And it’s not like you’re afraid to be yourself.”
“You may think that, but I honestly think you’re way braver than me.” Y/N comments. “I may be more comfortable with myself, but in the tv, you’re better than me. I think there are some things some people are better at than others. The grass is always greener on the other side, after all.”
Kanji smiles. “I guess so. I really need to stop being a crybaby about the littlest things.” He can’t help but laugh a bit. “Speaking of which, do you ever imagine we can tell the truth about us to the others?”
“To the group?” Y/N begins to think. “One day, yes. Well, maybe some people earlier then others. I doubt Yosuke would be… the most supportive after the camp incident.”
“I think so too. I know I said it to you a lot, but I trust the others well. Even Yosuke, but only a little.” Kanji adds casually. “I even think my ma would be cool with it.”
“I’m glad you think so.” Y/N smiles. “They’re already okay with your hobbies. Not to say our relationship is the same as just hobbies, but still. The group already are open minded with each other’s struggles and respect each other because of that. We learn and grow together, not just us, but everyone else too.”

Y/N is quiet new to the team. He’s an overseas student, so it took some time to adjust himself to Japan and its culture. It took even longer to adjust himself to the thought there is more than 24 hours in a day and that the school becomes a giant tower with monsters in it. The teen keeps thinking about the dark hour. Since he’s new, he feels outclassed and inexperienced. So instead sobbing about it, Y/N takes action to seek just the right person for training.
“Hey, Akihiko Senpai.” During lunch time, Y/N reaches out to his upper classmate and dormmate. Y/N isn’t too close with him, and with the rest of the team because he just started living with them, but he can imagine becoming friends with them quick.
“Hey Y/N. You’ve been doing okay?”
“Yeah, but I want to ask you something, or rather request something.”
“Well, what is it?” Akihiko asks.
“I never been in combat… so I’m inexperienced, but I don’t want to be useless for the team. Is there any chance we could train together? Even one time would be appreciated.”
Akihiko shows a kind smile. “I can understand your feelings. It’s a good thin you reached out to me. Alright, we can train together. I can teach you all about boxing. That sounds good for you?”
“Perfect.” Y/N smiles. “I thought of trying out different weapons to see which one I like the most and stick with it.”
“Wise choice. I can tell you’re motivated.” Akihiko appreciates that he and the team as a reliable and determent teammate. “But now you need the skills to back it up. Seek me out if you want some training. It’s all I do in my free time, so don’t worry about bothering me or anything.”
Rank 2
At the school boxing gym, Akihiko has been teaching Y/N all the basics of boxing, even letting him work out by the punching back. Although Akihiko critiqued Y/N’s technique a lot, he can see potential in him. After minutes of training, they take a water break and start chatting.
“You’re doing good for a rookie. I can tell you’re going to be great at this.”
“Thanks. It’s all because of you.” Y/N replies as he pants.
“Give yourself some credit. You correct your mistakes with haste, and although not perfect, I can tell you’re up to the challenge.” Akihiko praises him. “Speaking of which, I heard from Yukari that you’ve been training with a bow.”
“Yes, though I wasn’t very good at it. It took me like an hour until I got the arrow right to the string, and then it took me even longer to shoot it remotely right.”
Akihiko chuckles. “Well, at least you tried.”
“I tried kendo as well. It went a lot better than archery, but I find the sword a bit too heavy for my liking, but I probably need to get used to it.”
“Keep trying. You know what they say, practice makes perfect.” Akihiko comments. “Speaking of which, do you ever think you’ve done enough?”
“Done enough? With what?”
“Like boxing, kendo or even any other sport. Do you think you can master it?” Akihiko is intrigued how Y/N is going to reply.
“Not sure but isn’t it so that you need to keep training, even if you’re already great at it. Just not to get your skills rusty.”
“I agree, mostly though. Keep in mind while training, but you’re never going to be the strongest you can be. Keep training every day, so you can be stronger then yesterday.” Y/N doesn’t know to respond and remains quiet, which Akihiko notices. “Sorry, I hope I didn’t demotivate you.”
“N-No! I get what you’re saying. Never be satisfied with just good enough and try to reach higher.”
Akihiko nods. “Right.” He gives a quick glance at the clock in the room. “Oh, look at the time. I think we chatted enough. Let’s get you back training.”
Rank 3
Again, Akihiko is training Y/N at the school’s boxing club. This time, Y/N is punching the punching bag to better his technique. Minutes passes during which. Eventually, Akihiko gives him a break and the two get some water.
“You’re doing better. Good work.” Akihiko seems to be proud of Y/N. “I’ve been really enjoying this then I thought I would.”
“Hmm? Why?”
“I’m not really sure…” Akihiko answers. “Maybe because I can reflect on when I began training. It seems so long ago when I was a rookie like you. I was trained too by someone that has done this for years. Funny how the world works like that.”
The door of the club opens, walking in a group of three female students, who all look rather flustered at Akihiko. Y/N notices them, however Akihiko doesn’t. The three seems to be whispering to each other before one of them walks towards the boxer, with the other two standing near her.
“H-Hi Akihiko s-senpai.” The girl seems to be rather nervous.
Akihiko looks back, not looking amused, but also not annoyed. “Uhh… hi.”
“I-I’ve been wondering… Do you… D-Do you want to go to H-Hagakure Ramen?”
“No, thank you. I’m currently busy training my friend.”
The girl looks heart crushed and quickly turns around. She quickly rejoins her friends, who console her while walking out of the room.
Y/N looks back at his training buddy. “You know she was asking you out?”
“Huh? She was?” Akihiko doesn’t sound like he cared.
“Yes.”
“Oh…” Akihiko merely let that out. “Junpei thinks I’m odd that I have all these girls following me and have none date me. But I’m too busy for a girlfriend. Hell, I’m not even thinking about getting one. Do you think he’s right?”
“Not necessarily. Some guys are more active about their love lives than others.”
“And with Junpei’s case he’s way too much active.” Akihiko laughs, alongside Y/N. “How about you Y/N? Any girls catching your eyes.”
“Not really. I prefer hanging out with guys any way.”
Akihiko chuckles. “When you say it like that sounds it like you rather want a boyfriend.” It doesn’t appear he catch on with Y/N’s hint. “Anyway, I think we’re done with the basics. It’s now to train on a higher level. But first, I want to learn you about the right diet.”
Rank 4
Back at the dorms’ kitchen, Akihiko and Y/N are discussing dieting.
“The best way to pack on muscle besides training is with the right kind of nutrients. I usually avoid drinking anything but water, but since you’re new to this, don’t feel sorry if you grab a soda once a while. I also recommend taking some protein. Whether that’s powder, shakes, meat or anything else is up to you. And lastly, try to avoid unnecessary fat such as junk food and fast food. Any questions?”
“Well… not necessary a question but more of a concern. Do you think I’m able to stay on such a diet?”
“Not perfectly, but good enough. You don’t have to be too strict on yourself. Looking at you, you’re already not eating anything drastic. Just keep in mind the next time you want something to drink, get some water. And if you want a snack, try eating a protein bar. Change your way of life a little and look how big of a change it makes on you. Though it takes a while, it’s well worth it.” Akihiko explains.
“Thank you.” Y/N smiles. “It sure is a lot to keep in mind…”
“I know. It took me a while to adjust my life to what it is. Nowadays, I just think this is normal. I’m sure you can do it too.” Akihiko reassures.
“I think so too. It might take a while, but one day, I will.”
“That’s the spirit.” Akihiko smiles. “Now, I want to teach you a recipe that will help you bulk up. I have a friend that kept complaining about how much protein I put in. Hell, he would even complain to you about how obsessed I am about training.” He let out an amused laugh.
“He sounds like a good friend.”
“He is.” Akihiko smiles. “We grew up together at the orphanage with my little sister.”
“You grew up at an orphanage?”
“Yeah. Our parents died when we were really young, so we grew up at an orphanage.”
“Oh, I’m sorry.” Y/N gives his condolences.
“It’s alright. I accepted it, and there is no use crying about it.” Akihiko dismisses his worry. “Anyway, I went off track. Let’s get cooking.”
Rank 5
It’s another day of their training. This time, both teens are in the ring, practicing fighting up close. Knowing the technique and basics, Y/N moves to the next level, though still Akihiko makes sure he takes it easy on him, since he still needs to practice even further. A couple of minutes later, they take a break.
“You’re doing better. Not just in here, but also at Tartarus. You’re holding yourself good.”
“Thank you, but if I get to be honest, I’m still not happy with myself. Every time I’m there, I’m scared I may die.” Y/N shares his concerns.
“All the reasons to continue. It may be scary now, but you will get use to it. Besides, being afraid isn’t a bad thing. It allows yourself to have boundaries and not do anything risky. If only Junpei was like that…” Akihiko remembers the amount of times Junpei just went off by himself to fight a shadow.
“I guess that’s true.”
The two continue drinking their water and rest. Suddenly, Akihiko remembers something he meant to say to him.
“Remember our conversation before? About why enjoy training you so much? I know the reason why. You remind me of myself.”
“You do?”
The boxer hums. “Yes. I’m always striving to become stronger. To be not weak. To protect the people I care about.”
“I guess we aren’t too different after all then.” Y/N says with a smile.
Akihiko smiles back. “We sure aren’t. Back when you first joined the team, it was hard for me to read how you would fit in the team. But now I can say with confidence that you’re a great teammate.”
“Thank you. That means a lot to me.” Y/N looks grateful. “I wasn’t sure myself as well, but I’m quiet proud of myself. I even made friends.” Now that Y/N thinks about it, he never truly hangs out with Akihiko. Only when they’re training or something related to it. “Hey, how about we hang out sometime? We can grab some food or something.”
“That sounds nice.” Akihiko says with a pleasant smile. “All we did is training, did we? I can see why Shinji thinks I’m a ‘weirdo’.”
Rank 6
It’s after school. It’s the first time that both teens hang out somewhere in the city. Since they’re hungry, they decided to go to Wild Duck Burger. Both of them sit somewhere isolated, opposite of each other.
“This isn’t the healthiest, but we can burn it off later.” Akihiko looks happy when he enjoys his burger.
Both of them continue eating their food, though that’s about it. Y/N notices Akihiko isn’t much of a chit chatter. So he tries to open up a bit.
“If you don’t mind me asking senpai, I’ve been wondering about your childhood. Do you mind telling about it?”
“Hmm?” Akihiko didn’t expect a request like that. “Sure I don’t. Let’s see… I told you about I grew up with my little sister and a friend, right? His name is Shinji. You would like him, but he’s kind of an ass.” He let out a soft laughter. “Still, he’s a good guy. I miss him…”
“Miss him? Why?” Y/N is afraid something happened to him.
“He used to live by the dorms and go to our school, but… some things happened. Because of that, we don’t see each other like we used to. Still, he’s my friend, and I’m sure he feels the same way.”
“That’s good.” Y/N is happy to year that. “What about your sister?”
“Oh… her name is Miki. She was a sweetheart. The three of us used to play a lot back when we were kids. I’m sure she loved you if she was still alive.”
Although Akihiko doesn’t sound sad, Y/N can’t help but feel sorry for him. “You’re sister passed away? M-My condoles! I didn’t know!
“Why are you apologizing? You didn’t do anything wrong.” Akihiko responds. “You were just curious, that’s all.”
“But- I didn’t meant to bring any bad memories.”
“To be honest, I accepted what happened. It was long time ago. There was a fire at the orphanage… and she was in it. I was too weak to save her, and I promised to myself that won’t happen to anyone else. I grieved enough, so instead of crying about it, I use it as motivation to help everyone.”
“Akihiko…” Y/N isn’t sure what to say.
Akihiko notices it. “I think things got way too heavy. Sorry about that. We came here for a fun time. So let’s just chat. How about you? How was your day today?”
Y/N allows Akihiko to change the subject, thinking it’s probably better to talk about something else.
Rank 7
Months has passed, and so many Full Moon’s Shadows has been defeated. Many more allies have gained, though sadly one died during the mission. Shinjiro, Akihiko’s best friend, has been killed. Days has passed since the incident, with the entire group being tensed. Akihiko and Ken has been most effected by it, but to Y/N’s surprise, Akihiko seems to accept what happened and looks even more determent to defeat the Dark Hour.
Still, Y/N is worried about Akihiko. So he goes to his room and knock on his door. Soon enough, he opens the door.
“Oh… hey Y/N.”
“Hey Akihiko.” Y/N greets him back. “Do you mind if I come in?”
“Sure.” Akihiko steps besides to allow Y/N to get in. After he did, the boxer close the door.
“Akihiko, are you okay…?”
“To be honest, I’m not sure.” Akihiko admits. “I miss him. It’s hard to move on. However, I’m not going to give up.”
Y/N isn’t sure he believes him. Still, he feels sorry for him, but he doesn’t know what to say. So he decides to do something else. He walks over to him and gives a hug, which surprises Akihiko.
“W-what are you doing?”
“Hugging you…”
Akihiko, who doesn’t get it at first, decides to not complain about it and hugs back, tightly. “Thanks Y/N…”
“I know things look bleak right now… but for whatever reason, I have hope that everything is going to be alright. I want to promise something to you. I’m going to do my best to protect everyone else too. And if you’re down, then leave it to me.”
“Y/N…” Akihiko softly says his name. “Let’s do our utmost to protect everyone. I don’t want anyone else to die.” The two-stop hugging and look at each other. “I never been much of a hugger… but that was nice. Thank you, Y/N.”
Rank 8
The boxing duo are at the shrine, going for a walk with Koromaru. The two sits down on a bench as Koromaru happily runs around.
“Look how happy he is.” Y/N says with a wide smile. “Whenever I feel down, I always feel better when he sees him.” He looks back at Akihiko, who has been quieter then normal. He looks like he’s deep in thought, troubled on something. “Are you alright, senpai?”
He looks back at him. “It’s nothing…”
“Doesn’t look like it’s nothing.” Y/N replies. “If there is something, you can tell me. Sharing what’s on your mind will help you.”
Akihiko seems to be swayed. “I’ve been thinking… is there any possibility that you can’t to Tartarus anymore?”
“Huh!?” Y/N looks surprised. “What do you mean? Did I do something wrong?”
“Oh! No! No! You didn’t do anything wrong!”
“Then why shouldn’t be in the team?”
“It’s just for your safety…! I meant it that way!” Akihiko quickly clarifies.
Y/N looks confused. “What do you mean? You trained me, and I quickly get used to fighting. I even fought multiple Full Moon shadows. I’m considered a stable to the team according to almost everyone. Why shouldn’t I be on the team?”
“Because- because-” Akihiko fumbles through his words.
“Akihiko?”
He let out a sigh. “I don’t want you get hurt… or die. I’m not afraid of death, but I’m afraid to see those who I care die. So please… can you quiet? Or e-even on the sidelines?”
“Akihiko… You know I can’t. I have my part to play to get rid of the Dark Hour. You know that.” Akihiko quietly hums, still looking distraught, though he remains quiet. “Akihiko… I can’t quiet the team, but I can promise you I will do my best to stay alive, if that reassures you.”
Akihiko looks back. “Sorry… I just… For whatever reason, I don’t have this fear for anyone else… Not even for Ken or Koromaru. And yet, I feel this way about you, even though I trained you.” He looks deep in thought.
“I think I know why. You consider me as a good friend.”
“Good friend?”
“Yes. After all what happened, I think you’re clinging for the next person that you care the most. And since we train together about every day, maybe that person is me.”
Akihiko thinks about it. “That makes sense… I never really thought about it, but right now, you’re an important person in my life, and I don’t want to lose you. Still, I’m not sure I consider you as a good friend…”
“You don’t?” Y/N sounds somewhat disappointed.
“Oh, I didn’t mean like that!” Akihiko quickly reassures. “It’s more… you’re something else to me…” He continues to think. Y/N merely allows him to be quiet.
Koromaru runs back to the two, panting happily. They can tell he has enough of his walk. “You’re done?” Koromaru barks. “Well, let’s head back.” Y/N smiles at him. “It’s getting midnight soon anyway.”

Akihiko invited Y/N to his room. He never received such kind of request of him. With his mind wonder what’s going on, he walks towards Akihiko’s room and knocks on his door. He opens the door to see his friend.
“You’re here.” Akihiko steps aside for Y/N to get in.
“Is there something wrong?” Y/N asks as he gets in.
Akihiko closes the door and looks at Y/N. “I’ve wanted to talk to you. I’ve been thinking about life. I lost Miki and Shinji. I considered both of them the most important people in my life. There were so many things I wanted to say to them. However, I was too late… I learned my lesson. I want to say something to you before anything happens to either you or me.”
Akihiko looks like he wants to tell something important. His cheeks blush a bit. However, it his tongue looks twisted, as he struggling to speak up.
“Akihiko senpai. It’s alright. Whatever you want to say, I’m all hears.” Y/N says with a smile.
“R-Right!” Akihiko looks flustered. “Y/N… when you said that I may consider you as a good friend, I knew something was wrong about that. But I didn’t know what exactly. Now I know. Y/N… y-you’re very important to me. I… I think I’m in love with you.”
Y/N looks surprised, also quiet flustered. “Huh!? You do!?”
“Y-Yes… If you’re not, that’s okay! I’m fine with just being friends!”
“No!” Akihiko shuts his mouth up when Y/N yells. “No, it’s alright. I… I’m in love with you too.”
“Y-You do?” This is probably the happiest Y/N has seen Akihiko. “That’s… Thank you, Y/N.” His smile falters a bit. Instead, he looks nervous. “Umm… I guess that makes me your boyfriend… and you are my boyfriend.”
“It sure is.” Y/N says with a chuckle.
“I like it. It has a nice ring to it… Y/N, my boyfriend…” Akihiko looks a bit giddy. “So… Since we’re a couple… should we go on a date?”
“I would love to.”
“Then let’s go eat a bite. I even pay for your food.” Akihiko offers.

After a wonderous date, Akihiko and Y/N arrived back to the dorms and the bedrooms. Both of them smile happily after the successful date.
“I really enjoyed our date. We should do this again soon.”
“I agree.” Y/N replies.
“I guess that’s it for tonight. Goodnight, Y/N.”
“Wait. Is it possible that we can go to your room?”
“My room?” Akihiko blushes. “If you want…”
The two get in the boxer’s room. Both of them sits on the edge of the bed, sitting next to each other. Akihiko looks rather nervous, not knowing what Y/N is up to. To his surprise, Y/N gets closer to him and begin snuggling him.
“Ahhh…”
“Did I do something wrong?” Y/N asks.
“No… It’s alright.” Akihiko nervously replies.
The two get some quiet time together. None of them talking for a couple of minutes, merely enjoying each other’s company. Soon enough, the silver haired teen speaks up.
“I’m sorry about before. I shouldn’t doubt your abilities.”
“It’s alright. You were just looking out for me.”
“But still, sorry.” Akihiko insists. “If I got to be honest with you, I’m somewhat envious of you. I trained you to get stronger, but I think you’re the stronger one.”
“You think? I’m sure you have a higher kill count then me.” Y/N points out.
“I don’t mean physically. I mean like emotionally. I was too quick to think that the best way to avoid the possible risks is just have you quite. It was a stupid idea to be honest.” Akihiko is somewhat ashamed of himself. “But now I think the best way to avoid getting killed or hurt is looking out for each other. To continue getting stronger, physically and mentally. That’s the best way to survive, and see you be alright.”
“Akihiko… Thank you. But I must say, don’t be sorry. We should look out for each other. You scratch my back and I scratch yours.” Y/N agrees with him.
“I like the sound of that.” Akihiko smiles. “Y/N, we look for each other. Not just as teammates, but as partners.”
