I got Rae as my partner for the OFMD Big Bang and she wrote a lovely fic named Hotel Beds. I got the wonderful pleasure to draw something for the fic and let me just say, it is such a beautifully written story. It was so hard to choose which scene to draw, but I felt this part was a very tender yet vulnerable moment that needed some art for it.

Over the next few years, Stede and Edward cross paths over and over, but chance seems to want to keep them apart. Will they succumb to fate, or make their own luck?

Ed feels the fingers looped around his neck loosen, but it doesn’t slip away completely. Ed’s whole reality shifts, the tectonic plates of his mind shakes rigorously as if Stede’s touch is the only thing keeping it from splitting in half — as if Stede’s hand moved an inch further away will cause the palace in Ed’s mind to sink like Atlantis. He swallows hard, suppressing any other stupid thing he thinks might save him.

Stede probably didn’t mean to do it in the first place. Now Ed made it fucking worse. ‘Do it again’? Of course Stede is going to say ‘Sorry I didn’t mean to.’ because what else can he s-

A strangers to friends to lovers story.

Stede Bonnet, the owner of a bookstore, encounters a kind stranger and ends up forming an unexpected friendship with restaurant (bar & grill) owner, Edward Teach.

An embarrassing incident leads to an act of kindness beyond what a normal stranger would do for someone. Stede is conflicted with the feelings that flutter in his heart at the thought of Ed and his kindness. He's met with the choice to pursue a friendship with the hot owner or run as far away as possible, hoping they never cross paths again.

However, after discovering their respective businesses are only a block apart, it becomes inevitable to pass by the restaurant without potentially bumping into Ed. With each encounter, Stede’s feelings grow for this stranger.

So Stede kind of likes Ed. Only kinda.

But how far will he go to pursue this stranger?

Very far, apparently.

“One more minute," Stede beamed, tilting his head back against Ed's chest. Ed hummed and planted a small kiss to his temple.

They stood by the window, waiting for the fireworks to come right when it struck midnight. Stede's eyes kept peeking at his watch, following the second hand inch closer as it made its way around the face of the clock. He felt a light squeeze around his waist and twisted his gaze to Ed with a smile.

"Thanks for inviting me over for this," Stede thanked, intertwining his fingers with Ed's. "I truly wouldn't want to spend New Years Eve with anyone else."
