Hi! I remember you posting about having a perianal abscess. How have you healed? Did it reoccur? I’m waiting to have mine operated on and I’m in so much pain. I’m an exotic dancer and I’m worried I’ll never dance or wear a thong again :(
Hi!!
Firstly, I am so so sorry you’re going through this, it’s the worst pain ever!
But mine healed great, I do have Crohn’s disease and those are common with it, especially if you aren’t on the right medication. As long as your surgeon clears it completely you likely will not have a reoccurrence. I did have a reoccurrence about 6 months later but it was significantly smaller. I ended up having to go in and have a fistulotomy done where they cut open the skin and the fistula and just let it heal itself with no packing. I haven’t had an actual abscess in over 2 years, and I had the fistula removed almost 2 years ago.
The worst part about healing was definitely the packing. My surgeon did wet to dry packing so the wound was packed with gauze soaked in saline and then removed 24 hrs later when it was dry. If your dr gives you and you’re comfortable with it, I super recommend pain medicine about 30 minutes before dressing changes.
As for dancing and wearing a thong, I can’t say for sure, unfortunately. I do know that I was able to wear a thong for a photo shoot a few months after the reoccurrence and didn’t see a thing in photos, and I didn’t feel any discomfort on the scars. But dancing, I see no reason why you shouldn’t be able to do that. Once I got the okay from my doctors, I was able to live my life like I had pre-abscess.
I’m sending you all the love and support and good vibes and if you ever need to talk about it, because it’s a scary scary thing, my DMs and my asks are always open💖💖

How To Recognize The Signs Of A Fistula
Tumblr media
An anal fistula is an abnormal tunnel that develops between the outside skin and the inside of the anus. When an infection starts in the anal gland then it can lead to an anal fistula that causes some painful symptoms. This infection causing the anal fistula is often called a perianal abscess which nowadays has become one of the most common anorectal conditions. You need to contact an experienced doctor to undergo fistula surgery in Siliguri which can give you permanent relief from the distressing symptoms.
It is vital to recognize the signs of fistula at an initial stage to get an early diagnosis and intervention. If the symptoms are left ignored for a longer period then it can make you extremely uncomfortable while severely impacting your daily life activities. You must know that without proper treatment and management of the symptoms of fistula, it can lead to various serious complications such as fistula extension, persistent infection, and even cancer.
Common Signs And Symptoms Of Anal Fistula To Recognize
1. Swelling or redness around the anus
One of the most common symptoms that can help you identify an anal fistula is sudden redness or swelling around the anus. This is the main sign that indicates a persistent infection under the skin which is also known as cellulitis. You must know that this inflammation can also be present inside the anus.
2. Pain
Anal pain is another sign that most people suffering from a fistula experience. Patients often explain this pain as throbbing and intense which can disrupt your daily life. You must know that in most cases this anal pain associated with fistula deteriorates while coughing, pooping, or sitting for long hours. Due to this pain, it may feel extremely sensitive to touch around the anus.
3. Blood or pus drainage
If you experience any fluid drainage around the anus then without any delay you must contact the best doctors for fistula treatment in Siliguri. The drainage can come from anywhere inside or around the anus which can either be pus or blood. In most cases, this drainage that comes during bowel movements can have a bad smell.
4. Increased sensitivity in the anal area
High fistula is a type of anal fistula where the fistula tract is present in the upper regions of the external sphincter muscle. If you suffer from this type of fistula then you may experience an increased level of sensitivity in the anal area. This constant sensitivity may increase when you move around, sit, or cough.
5. Fever
Another sign of anal fistula is fever, which is mainly caused due to the underlying infection. Due to this elevated temperature, it is normal for the patients to experience body aches, chills, fatigue, and lack of appetite. Treating the fistula at the right time can eventually lead to normal body temperature.
6. Abnormal skin changes near the anus
Abnormal skin changes around the anus are one of the most noticeable symptoms of anal fistula. When you have a fistula then you may notice a small hole in the skin that is connected to the abscess. These abnormal holes are often red with ooze drainage and can be quite painful to touch.
7. Inability to control bowel movements
Even after treating anal fistula, there can be a chance of fistula recurrence and development of symptoms. One such symptom that can help you to identify fistula recur is the inability to control bowel movements or fecal incontinence. The removal of some of the parts of the anal sphincter can be the main cause of this symptom.
8. Irritation or itching
It is also quite common for patients with anal fistula to experience severe itching and irritation. This mainly happens around the anus which is also called pruritus ani. You must know that continuous itching can make the anal areas red or swollen which can increase the risks of severe sensitivity.
When To Seek Immediate Medical Assistance
If these symptoms have been persistent for a few weeks then without any delay you must visit a healthcare professional. Herein, you also should seek immediate medical attention when the fever is above 101 degree Celsius and you’re also experiencing painful anal spasms.
In some severe cases, patients experience serious signs of infection such as increased pus drainage, swelling, and redness which makes them unable to sit or move around seamlessly. It is vital to get proper treatment in these situations to stop the progression of the fistula towards a cancerous stage.
Treatment Options To Manage The Fistula Signs
There are various advanced surgical and non-surgical treatment options that can help you manage the painful signs of anal fistula. However, the doctor will select the ideal treatment plan based on the underlying causes, location, and complexity of the fistula. Some effective treatments include-
Surgical options: You can undergo fistula surgery in Siliguri for both simple and complex anal fistula. Herein, Fistulotomy is the most common surgical procedure where the internal opening is cut to remove the infected tissues. Some other advanced techniques that can also treat the fistula are ligation of the Intersphincteric fistula tract and endorectal advancement flap.
Non-surgical options: In case of a simple fistula caused due to Crohn’s disease then the doctor might prescribe certain medications. The other non-surgical treatments that the doctor can perform to manage the fistula are collagen plug and fibrin glue, and Seton placement. These procedures can clear the anal tunnel and drain the infection.
Treatment for complex cases: If the anal fistula has progressed to a complex stage then the doctor may adopt a more invasive procedure to control the symptoms. Muscle flaps, ostomy, and stroma are some of the advanced procedures that can offer you long-term relief.
Along with undergoing fistula surgery in Siliguri, the doctor might also recommend various lifestyle modifications for symptom management. Starting from using a warm sitz bath and eating a high-fibre diet to taking pain medications, there are various strategies that can control the painful signs.

On a different whiny bitch topic, fuck, my crohns is in a somewhat annoying stage. It's mostly under control, but the fistula...
Ugh. If you don't know what a fistula is, uhhhhh, they're not fun. Mine's of the perianal variety, if that gives any more idea.
I should really contact my ibd team, see if I can get it assessed again. Last time, I think it was vaguely healing because I was still on steroids and the infusion form of my medication, and they weren't keen on the idea of surgery while my immune system was fuck and covid was at its height.
Ugh, idk. Maybe I should try finding crohns support groups or something.

What Is a Complex Perianal Fistula?
A complicated perianal fistula is an abnormal lair that develops between the skin near the anus and the inside of the anal conduit. Unlike simple fistulas, which are straightforward to treat, complex fistulas involve many tracts or extend into deeper structures, making them more demanding to manage. These fistulas can cause recurring infections and discomfort, needing specialized care to achieve optimal outcomes.
Causes of Complex Perianal Fistulas:
As per an expert proctologist in Thrissur, Dr. Arun Nair complex perianal fistulas can arise from various underlying conditions, including:
Anal Abscesses: Infections in the anal glands or crypts can progress to fistulas.
Inflammatory Bowel Diseases: Conditions like Crohn’s complaint boost the threat of fistula formation due to habitual inflammation.
Infections: Bacterial infections can conduct the growth of fistulas in the anal region.
Trauma: Injuries to the anal area, similar to during childbirth or accidents, may affect fistulas.
Certain Medical Procedures: Surgical interventions in the anal region can inadvertently result in fistula formation.
Symptoms of Complex Perianal Fistulas:
Recognizing the symptoms of a complicated perianal fistula is pivotal for early intervention. Symptoms may carry
Persistent Pain: Discomfort around the anus that worsens with bowel motions or sitting.
Swelling and Redness: Inflammation near the anus, frequently accompanied by tenderness.
Discharge: Pus or blood draining from openings near the anus.
Fever and Chills: Signs of infection, indicating the want for prompt medical attention.
Diagnosis:
Diagnosing a complex perianal fistula generally involves a thorough physical examination by a healthcare provider. Additional imaging tests similar to MRI or ultrasound may be necessary to determine the extent and complication of the fistula. Accurate diagnosis is essential for contriving an operative treatment plan acclimatized to the existent’s condition.
How Are Complex Fistulas Treated?
Treatment for complex perianal fistulas aims to alleviate symptoms, promote healing, and prevent recurrence. Depending on the inflexibility and complication of the fistula, treatment options may carry interventions recommended by a famed fistula specialist in Thrissur, Dr. Arun Nair.
Medical Management Antibiotics to treat underlying infections and anti-inflammatory medicines to reduce inflammation are especially profitable for patients with inflammatory bowel conditions.
Surgical InterventionsVarious surgical ways may be assumed, similar as
Surgical Drainage Opening and draining abscesses associated with the fistula.
Seton Placement Insertion of a seton( a piece of material) to grease drainage and reduce infection threat.
Fistulotomy Surgical removal of the fistula region, able for certain cases to promote recovery.
LIFT Procedure: Ligation of the Intersphincteric Fistula Tract to seal off the fistula tract and promote healing.
Biologic Therapies: Emerging treatments using biologic agents to modulate the immune response in inflammatory bowel disease-related fistulas.
Living with a Complex Perianal Fistula:
Managing life with a complex perianal fistula requires diligence and proactive care. Consider these strategies:
Hygiene Maintain excellent anal hygiene to prevent infections and promote healing.
Diet Follow a high-fiber diet to ensure regular bowel motions and minimize strain during defecation.

Best Care for Anal Fissure and Fistula Treatment in Chennai: Hande Hospital
Dealing with anorectal conditions such as anal fissures and fistulas can be incredibly distressing, significantly affecting one's quality of life. For residents of Chennai, Hande Hospital offers top-tier medical care for these conditions, combining expertise with advanced treatment options to ensure optimal patient outcomes. Here's an in-depth look at why Hande Hospital is the preferred choice for both anal fissure and fistula treatment in Chennai.
Anal Fissure Treatment in Chennai
anal fissure treatment in Chennai are small tears in the lining of the anus, often caused by passing hard stools or chronic constipation. These tears can result in severe pain and bleeding during bowel movements. At Hande Hospital, patients receive comprehensive care for this painful condition.
Diagnosis and Initial Care:
The first step in treating an anal fissure at Hande Hospital is a thorough examination and diagnosis. The experienced colorectal surgeons and gastroenterologists assess the severity of the fissure and any underlying conditions contributing to the issue.
Treatment Options:
Conservative Management: For less severe fissures, initial treatment typically includes dietary modifications, stool softeners, and topical anesthetics to alleviate pain and promote healing.
Botulinum Toxin Injection: In cases where conservative treatments are ineffective, botulinum toxin injections may be used. This treatment helps relax the anal sphincter muscle, reducing spasms and allowing the fissure to heal.
Lateral Internal Sphincterotomy: For chronic or severe fissures, a lateral internal sphincterotomy may be recommended. This surgical procedure involves making a small incision in the anal sphincter to reduce tension and promote healing. The surgeons at Hande Hospital are highly skilled in performing this minimally invasive surgery, ensuring quick recovery and minimal discomfort for patients.
Post-Treatment Care:
Hande Hospital emphasizes comprehensive post-treatment care, providing patients with guidance on dietary habits, hygiene practices, and lifestyle modifications to prevent recurrence. Follow-up appointments are scheduled to monitor healing and address any concerns.
Fistula Treatment in Chennai
An anal fistula is an abnormal connection between the epithelialized surface of the anal canal and the perianal skin. It can cause persistent pain, swelling, and discharge. Treating anal fistulas requires a high level of expertise, and Hande Hospital is well-equipped to provide effective solutions for this complex condition.
Diagnosis and Assessment:
Accurate diagnosis is crucial for effective fistula treatment. The medical team at Hande Hospital utilizes advanced imaging techniques, such as MRI and endoanal ultrasound, to determine the exact location and extent of the fistula.
Treatment Options:
Fistulotomy: This is the most common surgical procedure for simple fistulas. It involves cutting open the fistula tract to allow it to heal from the inside out. Hande Hospital’s surgeons perform this procedure with precision, ensuring minimal disruption to surrounding tissues.
Seton Placement: For complex fistulas, a seton (a surgical thread) may be placed in the fistula tract to help drain infection and promote healing while preserving sphincter muscle function.
Advancement Flap Procedure: In cases where fistulotomy is not suitable, an advancement flap procedure may be performed. This involves covering the internal opening of the fistula with a flap of healthy tissue to promote healing.
LIFT Procedure (Ligation of Intersphincteric Fistula Tract): This modern technique involves tying off the fistula tract to prevent the flow of stool through it, allowing the fistula to heal. The LIFT procedure is particularly beneficial for high fistulas where traditional surgery may risk incontinence.
Comprehensive Aftercare:
Post-surgical care is critical for fistula treatment, and Hande Hospital provides detailed aftercare instructions and regular follow-ups to ensure successful healing. Patients receive advice on wound care, diet, and activities to support their recovery.
Conclusion
Hande Hospital in Chennai is a leader in treating anorectal conditions, offering specialized care for both anal fissures and fistulas. With a combination of expert medical professionals, advanced treatment techniques, and a patient-centered approach, Hande Hospital ensures that patients receive the best possible care for these challenging conditions. Life has been different. I've been alone for nearly a month, since J had to go back to New Zealand for an unknown period of time. (This is a bigger part of the story, but I don't feel comfortable talking about it since it involves another person and this is a public blog, at the end of the day). It's not bad, being alone. I've been baking - I did a banoffee pie and a banana upside down cake. I finally convinced J to get an air-fryer, since we had to replace our rice cooker anyway.
Nowadayw, my routine consists of work, cleaning, reading, walking the dog, and re-watching Gravity Falls, over and over.
I think that last one is the only sign that maybe I'm impacted by being alone. I don't usually watch TV - and when I do re-watches it's usually when I'm sad. My last bout of depression involved me re-watching Gravity Falls over and over again, too. But... I don't actually feel depressed? I mean, I'm cleaning! I'm baking! More likely it's that even though I feel fine being alone, the house is too quiet without the TV on innthr background.
Borb's the one who seems to feel J's absence the most. He's gotten incredibly clingy, sometimes I'll turn and feel a wet nose on some part of my body, he's that close to me. I've started collecting photographs of his face being incredibly close to my camera. He also barks a lot more at night, as if J being gone means he has to be more alert. Which is offensive, really. Between the two of us, I'm a lot stronger than J. I'M THE PROTECTOR IN THIS FAMILY.
I took Borb for a blood and urine test since I have something that means those things are free annually. Good news is that his kidneys, liver, pancreas are all normal. Good electrolyte and salt levels. The lump on his chest remains benign. His perianal fistulae are healing well. His urine is not as concentrated as they'd like, but the vet is thinking that this could be caused by the medication he takes for the perianal fistula. He's ready for his vaccines, which I'll schedule soon.
I'm expecting to have to go to New Zealand for emergency reasons very soon, so this has been something I've been stressed about financially, and in terms of getting time off work, and in terms of Borb - his food, his vet visits, his medications. Even the plants. I'm glad for my parents, which solve at least Borb and the plants, even though I don't expect they'll have the time to take him to the vet. I'm only planning to be gone for two weeks, when the time comes, but I'm hoping to have a bit of time before I'll need to leave.
Last thing: I listened to You and I by Lady Gaga for maybe a hundred times in a row yesterday. Is this an OCD thing. Or just me being obsessive in my personality. Who knows.

German Shepherds are known for being exceptionally smart and intuitive creatures. They are very protective and loyal. Since they are so intelligent they can be easily trained. They are also very loving and can be known to have separation anxiety. This particular breed can be a great fit for anyone who needs a good guard dog. They can also be a good fit for a family, because of their loyal and protective nature. German Shepherds originated from Germany in the late 1800s. Their life span ranges from 9 to 13 years. Lots of exercise is recommended for this breed. German Shepherds unfortunately do struggle with quite a few health conditions including Degenerative myelopathy (DM), Gastric dilatation and volvulus (GDV), and Perianal Fistula or Anal Furunculosis.

FISTULA
Types Fistula
Fistulas can develop in various locations. Let’s break down the different types, what triggers their formation along with symptoms.
Fistula Types:
Anal fistulas: These notorious troublemakers connect the anus to nearby skin or internal organs like the rectum. Blame it on inflamed anal glands, Crohn’s disease, or past surgeries for their unwelcome arrival.
Perianal fistulas: Similar to their anal counterparts, these connect an abscess near the anus to the skin’s surface. Often, infected anal glands or previous abscess drainage procedures pave the way for these nuisances.
Rectovaginal fistulas: As the name suggests, these unwelcome bridges connect the rectum (the end of your large intestine) to the vagina. Childbirth injuries, Crohn’s disease, or radiation therapy can be the culprits.
