On a wave of Terror camp (oh my god, it's so awesome ❤️) I'm suddenly having a lot of Goodsir-related feelings, and I remembered this painting I did several years ago. And now I can take a better photo of it

anyone notice how when goodsir is tasked with cutting up gibson to feed the mutineer crew, he cuts up the body and puts it in bags (so no one has to see what it is they're eating), but when the crew decides to eat goodsir, they just lay him out on a table and cut off pieces like he's the main course at a buffet? like, goodsir procured cuts of meat that were edible for the crew (because hickey insists that only goodsir knows which parts are safe to eat), but no one bothers to try to do the same for goodsir. they put him on a table in front of their "dining room."

the crew doesn't get to hide from the truth anymore (and they even turn goodsir's head TOWARD the dining room so that he is watching them eat him. but notice how hickey has his back to goodsir? aside from being a metaphor that he's betrayed the "good sirs" of the ship, hickey still won't accept responsibility for what he's done, and still won't until the end when he confesses to crozier about his identity).

(and it's set up from that convo where hickey forces goodsir to cut up gibson that goodsir will be the one to try to poison the food. hickey says goodsir is the only one who know which parts are safe, so goodsir uses that to his advantage with the poison. not only did he poison himself, he rubbed poison all over his body. he knew that no one else was willing to cut up a body for food the way he was, and they would likely just cut off what they could and eat it. even if they didn't eat the skin, they would have contaminated the meat by transferring the poison from the skin to the meat either by hands or with knives.)

anyway, goodsir was still trying to protect the crew by disguising the meat in what little way he could, even if they knew exactly what they were eating. and he, instead, was put on display exactly like the dinners the captains and lieutenants would've been used to (re: the hallucination jopson has of crozier when he's crawling out of the tent, which also echoes goodsir's fate, since jopson's hallucination includes himself crawling on his stomach on a dinner table). so goodsir wasn't given any decency after his death, but this meant that the men had to confront the truth of their situation and actions. hickey was probably just trying to prove a point, but it backfired.

Right then, next batch of bts shots. This time for the #theterror I’ve got loads of these so I won’t drop them all now, I’ll save a few for down the line ;) First up I’m thrilled to see it has found a new home on #netflix. We are all so proud of the show and very thankful it is finally in a place plenty of people can see it. It was a labour of love to make it, 6 long cold months in Budapest and then 5 mad weeks in the sun in Croatia but we knew we were involved in something special from the very first day. That said the reception the show received from people who really took it to heart was greater than any of us dared believe. It has continued to have a life far beyond the screen and to know it’s made a lasting impact on people is just amazing. I love Jopson and all he means to fans of the show and it’s been a joy to look back on these photos and all the memories attached. So here you go…! Main pic - me as Jopson, scurvy setting in. Pic 1 - me and the main man Dave Kajganich, writer and show runner. This was taken just after shooting a moment that was maybe going to make it into the Jopson hallucination sequence but was cut from the final edit. Pic 2 - an actor prepares 😂 or maybe just catching a few zzzs in between takes 😜 Pic 3&4 - The first go at Jopsons ‘look’. The beard had to go. Pic 5 - with these guys in charge they’d have never got stuck in the pack ice 😂 Pic 6 - Terror boys difficult 2nd album cover 😂 Pic 7 - shooting begins onboard the terror, is that a tuunbaaq they’re looking at?!? Pic 8 - chillin between scenes. Seb loves having his photo taken 😘 Pics 9,10&11 - what the soundstage looked like with the terror in the ice. A full 1 to 1 replica of the ship. The story behind how it was built for the show is amazing. Too long to go into here but truly remarkable. The magic of the movies!
