House of Green & Black -- Petyr's Revenge
I haven’t listened to this in ages. Great Gaelic/Celtic song by Runrig/Paul Mounsey and I think it fits so well with Petyr being low-born and burning down the monarchy in my Regency Era fic. I imagine him finding out that Sansa has been taken and that she and his son could be dead...
Instructing his man-servant, before going to Joffrey to kill him,
“Kill them all. Even if she’s dead... Kill. Them. All.”
An Toll Dubh - The Black Tower/Dungeon
Behind the door there will be no sun.
Sitting at the table
There will be no food and no wine
Behind the door there will be no sun
There will be no food and no wine
In face of adversity we will rise from our slumber
In face of adversity we will rise from our slumber
The Gael is in his bed,
The Gael is slumbering
In face of adversity we will rise from our slumber
He came here from the south (England basically)
He came With a fast steed and a heavy key
He came here from England
With a fast steed and a heavy key
**chorus**
On the floor of this black dungeon there will be no sun
There will be no moon Dark will be the night as we sleep
On the dungeon floor there will be no sun
Dark will be the night as we sleep
In face of adversity we will rise from our slumber
In face of adversity we will rise from our slumber
The Gael is in his bed,
The Gael is slumbering
In face of adversity we will rise from our slumber!

Happy Birthday Paul Mounsey, the Scottish, composer, arranger and record producer.
Born in the lowlands of Ayrshire and raised in the highlands of Rosshire, Mounsey graduated from Trinity College in London with honors. After lecturing briefly at Goldsmith's College, he accepted a position at Play It Again, a huge commercial music company in Sao Paolo, Brazil
Many of his compositions have been featured in television commercials by such top-notch directors as Tony Scott, Michael Shapiro, Paul Giraud, Dariusz Wolski, and Hugh Johnson. The lengthy list of musicians who Mounsey has worked with includes Etta James, Jimmy Cliff, and the late Antonio Carlos Jobim
In addition to his commercial work, Mounsey has composed numerous pieces for chamber groups and orchestras. A frequent lecturer on film music, Mounsey has written many articles for the Brazilian cultural magazine Bravo.
Mounsey has released five solo albums of his dance-inspiring ethnic music. and another in collaboration with Runrig. While his debut album was compared to the techno worldbeat music of Enya, Deep Forest, and Enigma, his subsequent albums have used more conventional instruments including violins, flutes, and electric guitar. His first two albums -- Nahoo and Nahoo Too (released in 1997) -- reached the Top Ten on the European world music charts.
As well as his studio albums Paul most famously, for us Scots anyway, penned the tune for a Visit Scotland video campaign. He has also been involved in 27 TV and Film tunes including How to Train Your Dragon ,and Jumanji: Welcome to the Jungle.
Mounsey's unique approach has inspired considerable critical acclaim. Sing Out! wrote, "Peter Gabriel has nothing on Paul Mounsey when it comes to fusing world music traditions," while Tower Records' Top Magazine observed, "The exiled Scot, something of a genius arranger and techno wizard, throws loops, samples, and inspired Brazilian musicianship into the digital cooking pot."
Previously based in Brazil Paul is currently based in Los Angles., working as composer, orchestrator and programmer in the film industry.

Ironfoot (Extended Edition) - Howard Shore [Instrumental]
From The North - Runrig & Paul Mounsey [From the north came a warrior Bearing burdens dark and deep I've a will and I've a wanting And miles to go before I sleep I have horses in my stable I have sons fit to fight I will bring this to your table If you ride with me this night]
As Cold As It Gets - Dustin Kensrue [To the end of the Earth, I'll search for your face For the one who laid all of our beauty to waste Threw our hope into Hell and our children in the fire I am the one who crawled through the wire I am the one who crawled through the wire There's a million sad stories by the side of the road Strange how we all just got used to the blood A million sad stories that'll never be told Silent and froze in the mud Silent and froze in the mud]
Crow On The Cradle - Show of Hands ["The sheep's in the meadow, the cow's in the corn, Now is the time for a child to be born. He'll laugh at the moon and he'll cry for the sun, And if it's a boy he will carry a gun," Sang the crow on the cradle
"And if it should be that this baby's a girl, Never you mind if her hair doesn't curl. With rings on her fingers and bells on her toes, And a bomber above her wherever she goes," Sang the crow on the cradle]
The Wondersmith and His Sons - Astronautalis [A smile safe-crackers understand, Is rendering this steady hand, Obsolete. The charm and confidence of men, Can jam the bullets in your gun, And stop heartbeats]
World on Fire - Les Friction [I'll return from darkness and will save your precious skin I will end your suffering and let the healing light come in Sent by forces beyond salvation There can't be not one sensation World on fire with a smoking sun Stops everything and everyone Brace yourself for all will pay Help is on the way]
Who Are You, Really? - Mikky Ekko [So you feel entitled to a sense of control And make decisions that you think are your own You are a stranger here, why have you come? Why have you come, lift me higher, let me look at the sun Look at the sun and once I hear them clearly, say Who, who are you really? And where are you going? I have nothing left to prove 'Cause I have nothing left to lose See me bare my teeth for you Who, who are you?]
Brother, My Brother - Michael Lanning [And His eyes will look away For His heart will so be torn As His fields of gold turn scarlet From the rage of battle born And the silence of the night Will be broken with the cries Of the ones who've been forgotten On the quiet field where honor lies]
The War - SMYL [Here stands a man With a bullet in his clenched right hand Don't push him, son For he's got the power to crush this land Oh hear, hear him cry, boy]
Daniel in the Den - Bastille [And you thought the lions were bad Well, they tried to kill my brothers And felled in the night by the ones you think you love They will come for you]
Hurt - Johnny Cash [And you could have it all My empire of dirt I will let you down I will make you hurt]
Davy Jones' Theme - City of Prague Philharmonic Orchestra [Instrumental]

THE MATRIX RESURRECTIONS: Motion Picture Soundtrack
THE MATRIX RESURRECTIONS (Original Motion Picture Soundtrack) Features The Music Of Golden Globe-Nominated Composers JOHNNY KLIMEK & TOM TYKWER.
The soundtrack is scheduled to be released on December 17, and the film will be in theaters nationwide and on HBO Max via the Ad-Free plan on December 22, 2021; it will be available on HBO Max for 31 days from theatrical release.
In addition to Klimek and Twyker, additional remix contributions on the album come from
Alessandro Adriani is producer, DJ, live performer and owner of Mannequin Records – which has won praise from buyers and critics alike for its open-minded blend of on-point reissues, archival collections and fresh productions. He has appeared at festivals such as Berlin Atonal, Dekmantel, ADE, Dimensions, Neopop, Positive Education, Signal and more, and has bi-monthly dates at Berghain and Panorama Bar, a residency he’s held since early 2016.
Marcel Dettmann - a passionate DJ, curator, producer, and one of the faces of Berghain, Marcel Dettmann is recognized as one of the most influential proponents of contemporary Techno. He is a label owner, compilation producer, and His own releases comprise numerous albums, singles and remixes for artists of many genres.
Almost Falling is a new musical endeavour by Esther Silex and Heiko Tubbesing. A project that plays with styles and elements from pop- and electronic music, weaving contemporary paradigm into the songs through mantra-like lyrics. Their live-debut happened to be an extra-ordinary ‘during-lockdown-production’ for ARTE tv in concert in March 2021.
Moderna - the Los Angeles transplant now residing in Berlin who has gained worldwide recognition and underground appeal, is sought after internationally all while touring and running her hybrid label and radio show ‘Brave New Rave’. Her style style is described as a dark heady blend of Techno, Dark Disco, Elektro, and Acid with wrought darkened vocals that has become her signature distinction
System 01 is the collaboration between Johnny Klimek and Paul Browse. Following their first release, which involved a collaboration with acid guru Dr. Timothy Leary, their music was dubbed “intelligent techno” and with the subsequent release of the hedonistic Drugs Work album, it was clear that they had become the new sound of Berlin. Despite the passing of time their music has remained relevant, is still played in clubs, and thanks to Alessandro Adriani will re-released on his Mannequin Records on the 24th January 2022.
Thomas Fehlmann is a major catalyst in the advancement of Berlin techno and the scene's lasting Detroit connection. A Swiss composer/producer who lives in Berlin, Germany, Fehlmann has been active in electronic music since the 1980s and coursed through decades of underground activity dating back to his early-'80s adventures with post-punk band Palais Schaumburg. He is currently active on the Kompakt record label based in Germany. Fehlmann is an on-and-off member of Sun Electric and The Orb.
Esther Silex & Kotelett: Berlin based DJ and producer Esther Silex has an unquestionable status as an impassioned powerhouse with enough West German swagger to create timeless music with equal parts simplicity and beauty. Since the summer 2019 Esther is officially KaterBlau-Resident and part of this legendary Berlin family. Kotelett is one half of the Berlin-based DJ and producer duo Kotelett & Zadak, whose origination, nobody knows for sure. Rumors have it that they once had a common love for sprat fishing and point their fateful meeting to somewhere on the North German Coast.
Psychic Health (Gabriel Mounsey and Devon Steffens ) have been producing their style of cinematic techno and ambient electronic music since 2015. Alongside producing, Mounsey and Steffens perform hardware focused live PA sets, and have had tracks featured in the Netflix series SENSE8. Steffens hosts the Triptronics Research live performance series, and Mounsey works as an accomplished film composer and mixer.
Gudrun Gut’s story spans many years, scenes, and sounds, from the “ingenious dilettantes” subculture of early 1980’s Berlin as part of Mania D, Einstürzende Neubauten, and Malaria! to Matador into an expansive solo catalog of later work. She has founded record labels, been radio presenter and producer, curated festivals, participated on the advisory committee for Musicboard Berlin, and since 2016 part of the artist funding jury of Initiative Musik DE, and performed at The Royal Albert Hall with Âme as part of an Innervisions label night.
Eclectic Youth Influenced by electronic sounds, cinematic landscapes and club-oriented beats, Eclectic Youth (a.k.a. EEOOAAEE) is focused on translating real life’s experiences into dynamic musical pictures to inspire and trigger a new eclectic scene focused on bringing people together. A celebration of all the differences that make us unique and that push us to look for our own kind, twin souls, brothers and sisters, friends, PEOPLE. Free from our egos we will connect and discover a new way to BE.
The Matrix Resurrections (Original Motion Picture Soundtrack) will be available December 17, and the track list is as follows:
1. Opening - The Matrix Resurrections
2. Two and the Same

Neo and Trinity Theme (Johnny Klimek & Tom Tykwer Exomorph Remix) sees composers Johnny Klimek (Cloud Atlas, Deadwood, Run Lola Run) & Tom Tykwer (Director - Cloud Atlas, Run Lola Run, Babylon Berlin), who have worked closely together and co-composed since 1996, reunite with close friend, collaborator, and The Matrix Resurrections Director/Co-Writer/Producer Lana Wachowski. Their 2012 collaboration on Cloud Atlas garnered a Golden Globe Nomination for Klimek and Twyker’s work on the film’s music.
Tom Tykwer discussed the composers’ work on The Matrix Resurrections. “There’s a powerful and distinct musical legacy here. In my opinion, The Matrix Trilogy is one of the great scores of all time. And what’s particularly fantastic about it is that it was also, to my knowledge, one of the first film scores that so implemented electronic music and connected it with progressive late-modern orchestral music. It started a movement, which we are paying tribute to with this music. And yet, this film is playful and emotional with complex development, open in every direction. Johnny and I felt our challenge for the music was to pay tribute to The Matrix lineage and also support this cinematic endeavor of expanding that legacy to explore new direction. That needs to be represented in the music and that is what we are trying to investigate musically.”
Johnny Klimek elaborated, “We spent several months working on material for The Matrix Resurrections, building the main themes, crafting alternative arrangements and electronic variants. We had a lot of fun mixing electronics with classical orchestra. The technology has come so far since I started scoring film.”
The infusion of electronic music into the score ultimately expanded into the inclusion of 11 remixes on the album, and it was an amalgam of inspirations which brought that idea to fruition. Both composers have worked extensively with electronic music, including their work on the celebrated, techno-infused Run Lola Run soundtrack. Further, Lana Wachowski lives in Berlin and is connected to many DJs, remixers, producers and personalities deeply involved with associated with the underground electronic music scene - some of them for more than 30 years - and the well-known Berlin nightclub Berghain. These connections and inspirations organically evolved from a remix idea into the larger inclusion of remixes on the album.

Random question but do you have any songs that have meaning for you?
I do! And here they are... They’re all important for what they represent in my life, not necessarily for their own merit, but most of them I really like... :). I love it when people send asks that are just ‘hey, Ghosti, here’s a random thing I wanna know’ haha. I’m always up for those.
___
Il centro del mondo by Ligabue reminds me of when I was 17 and living in Florence (and deeply fucking unhappy at the time) while studying Italian. At least I was surrounded by amazing gelato art history to distract me. This song was on the radio all the damned time and I still know most of the lyrics.
2nd mvt of Bruch’s violin concerto (also holy god, Itzhak Perlman is just... mindbogglingly talented) reminds me of performing it when I was about 18, of my wedding (I walked in to this), and of my grandma’s funeral where we played it because she was super proud of the performance and it had been her last major outing before she got ill and started to decline. I have mixed feelings about it, but it means a lot to me.
Blind (and to a certain extent You and Me) by Lifehouse reminds me of angsty, feelsy writing when I was at school. It was one of the tracks that I listened to a lot.
When I am Laid In Earth (skip to 1.26 for the actual aria if you don’t want the recit.), by Purcell and sung by Janet Baker is so exquisitely beautiful. I’ve performed in Dido & Aeneas both at school and at university, and it is also among my mother’s favourite pieces of music, and she wants it played at her funeral.
“Remember me, remember me, but ah! forget my fate. Remember me, but ah! forget my fate.”
North by Paul Mounsey and The Eve of War from War of the Worlds both remind me of commuting in London when I worked at the British Museum for a bit, and of just trying to shut out all the sheer volume of people, as well as doing distance with Mr. Ghosti and being super miserable...
Run Free from Spirit, Stallion of the Cimarron is something that I listened to until I broke my CD because it was so scratched while I was at school. It has a deeply emotive effect on me and stirs up a lot of memories, both good and bad (i’m detecting a theme here with my associations!).
Finally... The Breaking of the Fellowship is one of the most tear-jerking pieces of music I can listen to. It’s calming and heart-breaking at the same time, reminding me of everything I love about Lord of the Rings and fantasy, and how I used it as an escape during a difficult part of my life. If this comes on on the radio or shuffle or something when I’m in the car, and if I don’t have to get out immediately, I will legitimately sit there for the full 7minutes and listen to it.
Daft Punk’s Something About Us gets an honourable mention because I first heard it when I went out with my first ever boyfriend, aged about 19 or so, but the lines ‘It might not be the right time / I might not be the right one’ had real resonance for me at the time. I knew that he was not the right one, and it definitely was not the right time, but for a brief moment there was something between us. :) (I did not need or want or love him ‘more than anything in my life’ though...!!!)
As does ‘Denn alles Fleisch’ from Brahms’ German Requiem because ‘oof’, gravitas, feels and memories. Also literally any early music by the likes of Tallis, Palestrina, Tomas de Luis Victoria (you may know O Magnum Mysterium from the ‘bathroom sirens’ viral video... also that man knows how to write a good alto line, for which I’m very grateful!)...

Hey Delta 👋 Just wondered if you’d ever heard any of The Big Dish albums? Can highly recommend one called “Rich Man’s Wardrobe” Also “Hatfull of Rain” by Del Amitri or a really atmospheric style of music by Paul Mounsey from an album called “Nahoo”. All Scottish from 80s onwards, but some of the best music and lyrics for chilling and recharging :) x
Hey! Thanks for hitting me up with those recommendations.
I’ve never heard of those albums before, but I will certainly check them out!
Thanks! :)
