“It was rather embarrassing wearing a school uniform on set while meeting famous people. I hadn’t been out of school all that long. -Pattie Boyd
My first date with George was arranged by the Beatles’ manager Brian Epstein. It was sweet that he was there because it was a terribly glamorous restaurant, where people wouldn’t admit that they might recognize George — grown-ups in those days were extremely grown up. Brian was always very entertaining and George and I were both shy so he helped break the ice. -Pattie Boyd

George and I went to look at a house called Kinfauns in Esher in Surrey, which would eventually become our first home together. It was so suburban, ghastly, hideous. I was horrified. That’s when George took these photos of me with my camera. Brian Epstein wanted to get all of the Beatles out of London as it was becoming very difficult to either leave or come into the London flat because there were so many girls outside. -Pattie Boyd

Pattie Boyd, George Harrison and Frank Sinatra circa 1968
While in Los Angeles, George and I were invited to go and meet Frank Sinatra in his recording studio. Thrilled, we were ushered upstairs to the control room where Frank was surrounded by many guys at the mixing desk. We briefly met him before he disappeared downstairs. We then watched as he proceeded to sing ‘My Way’ with a full orchestra. Wow, it was extraordinary. He listened back to this one take and said, ‘Ok, that’s it, let’s go’. We piled into limos to a club. When we got there, George quite rightly thought he would sit next to Frank, but the big guys from the Bronx moved him down the table. -Pattie Boyd

Shoots were simple affairs. A plain roll of paper for a backdrop, whatever props were lying around, and and a single light. -Pattie Boyd
Bookings were quite strict and I might have more than one job in a day. My agent would say, go to so-and-so studio. I’m the beginning, we would do our own hair and makeup. -Pattie Boyd

Pattie Boyd Photographed by Eric Swayne
Eric encouraged me to buy a camera and to ask questions of everybody I worked with, to check where they put the lights and to ask them about F stops. I was working and learning at the same time. -Pattie Boyd

I was at a Catholic boarding school run by nuns, and they never encouraged us to have a career of any kind. They just wanted us to meet someone and get married. I never wanted to get married. I was aware that there were secretarial colleges, but I knew that was not for me… -Pattie Boyd

Life at Kinfauns
Life at Kinfauns was great fun — we transformed a normal white suburban bungalow into a psychedelic monument. -Pattie Boyd
Friends would turn up and hope you were home. If not they might leave a note or find a tin of paint and brush any color on the wall saying ‘Mick and Marianne were here’. -Pattie Boyd

I was just living and having fun with my group of friends, which happened to be the Beatles. So filming ‘All You Need is Love’ at Abbey Road, a global television event with 400 million viewers, was a special day because there were lots of friends I hadn’t seen for a while. -Pattie Boyd

Pattie for Dop Shampoo circa 1966
I was filmed in a Jaguar E-Type in a car wash with the top down for a shampoo commercial. It was a lovely car. They stupidly let me drive it during the lunch break. I asked ‘Can I take the car?’ And they said, ‘Yeah, but don’t go too far.’ -Pattie Boyd

Pattie’s Scrapbook
It was terribly exciting to see my photos in print. Different looks, wigs, hats, I did every job possible. I started young and worked my way up. I loved working and I loved the idea of making money because it meant I could buy shoes…and I love shoes. My flatmate Mary said that used to buy the most outrageous shoes all the time, and that was my ambition. -Pattie Boyd
