Keith & Chantal Tkachuk on how Matthew & Brady's vibrant personalities stem from colourful St. Louis roots
Tumblr media
It is an attitude and household like theirs in suburban St. Louis that has produced one of the league’s most colourful players off the ice, and one of the most entertaining players on it.
“I assume Brady is the off-ice one and Matthew is the on-ice one?” said Keith, laughing.
Brady’s infectious personality has been on display via several renditions of "Mr. Brightside" posted online by fans thrilled to see him letting loose in local establishments.
The toolkit Matthew has used to become one of the more polarizing and prolific 100-point scorers includes an innate ability to agitate while dazzling with memorable, between-the-leg finishes.
In a league full of beige, both engaging, natural leaders stand out.
Brady, captain of the Ottawa Senators, became a folk hero in Calgary last spring with his double-fisted celebrations in support of his brother’s playoff run.
Matthew, an alternate captain for the Florida Panthers, single-handedly resurrected the Battle of Alberta with a series of hits on Zack Kassian he punctuated with, “If he doesn’t want to get hit, then stay off the tracks.”
And the hits just keep on coming, from both.
“They’re not boring like a lot of guys in the NHL, tell ya that much,” said Keith, who was one of the more personable players of his era.
“I think it’s good they have a personality. It’s good for them, it’s good for the league, good for the team and it’s good for you guys.
“You don’t want to talk to boring guys with programmed answers.”
Keith said he remembered watching Matthew on the After Hours segment on Hockey Night in Canada as a rookie, conducting the whole interview with his head down.
“I said, ‘What are you doing? Get your head up and talk,’” said Keith.
“But now it’s like this (as he snaps his fingers).
“I watched Matthew interviewed last night and he was pretty good. He adds some normal stuff to it that people like. It’s not about the same answers. He does a good job.
“I think it’s being around the locker room for a long time, being comfortable.”
Both Tkachuks are armed with tremendous confidence, no doubt cultivated while growing up at their father’s knee in NHL dressing rooms.
They’ve honed their interview skills under the glare of demanding Canadian hockey markets where all eyes are on their every move, and they know it.
Yet, they continue letting their personalities shine though.
Brady certainly does that well with a microphone in his hand, belting out The Killers’ anthem like he did just a few weeks ago when a fan posted him performing with teammates.
“The good news is every time he does it, he’s with his fiancée, so it’s not like he’s out by himself,” said Keith.
“If you were in Phoenix or New York no one would care, or know you. But you’re in Canada, so I just told him, you’ve got to be careful.
“It’s not like he’s being a goofball, idiot, drunk. He’s not like that. He just turned 23 years old, but he thinks like a 16-year-old.
“He just likes to have fun.”
Sure, it’s all good fun like he’s had for years in his parents' basement with friends and family.
“He has a contagious personality – he always has a smile on his face, seems to be in a good mood and is fun to be around,” said Mom, sharing her theory on why his song is the Killers’ classic.
“I think that’s just a popular college song – a fun song that the kids go crazy over.
Draft parties, grad parties, Christmas parties, you name it, the Tkachuks want to ensure everyone is included, as they value the importance not only of teammates bonding, but the spouses as well.
“One of the best parties was an Easter party we had one of the last years Keith played – we had the whole team over and we got this huge Easter bunny costume and Matthew got into it,” said Chantal, who Keith calls Julie McCoy, the cruise director from Love Boat.
“Matthew was about 12 and he just nailed it, holding the kids’ hands.
“All the moms were oohing and ahhing over how great an Easter bunny he was.
“Honest to god, I still get random texts from moms who said, 'That was just the best.'”
“They like the wine cellar and the scotch,” said a smiling Keith, who taught both his sons to revere their team’s support staff.
“I know what it felt like to be a young guy and not having anywhere to go, so I think it’s important to have that open-door policy.”
Tumblr media
That policy extended to the family basement, where current Blues star Robert Thomas lived his first two years in the league before renting Matthew’s St. Louis home this fall.
Keith has three TVs mounted in the basement so he can watch Thomas and both of his sons at the same time. After games, Keith would take on a fatherly role with Thomas and wait up for him to get home to share thoughts on his performance.

Wdym by mra-y arguments? I've seen some things that mill down to "Imogen is a crazy hysterical bitch that they need to put down" but i wanna know if there's anything I missed :0
i kinda brushed up on it in the ask, but the insistence about imogen not giving a crap about his feelings because he’s a man is/was weirdly popular. which is a flagrant lie, imogen understands how this mission sucks for him getting triggered day in and day out by having to interact with the guy who traumatized him, and has enough empathy to not want to take away the gods for fear of mass-traumatizing others. also, if you think she hates him or thinks her trauma is “worse” skill issue, no the fuck she doesn’t. please actually watch the show instead of getting angry at a “no boys allowed” twitter user quip about how much they want imogen to punch him in the face.
this also affected fearne a bit too, mostly in the way of “if only dorian was here, he would understand how orym is feeling/ashton is the only person in bh that cares about orym’s feelings” as if fearne isn’t his best friend or went through similar things. also dude’s just very “don’t rock the boat-y” in all his actions and often intentionally distracts the team from his feelings because he doesn’t want to bother them and at some point you can’t blame everyone else for it.
unlike most drama, this one actually has reasoning behind it. unfortunately, that reasoning is stupid. it took the massively equally dumb shipping drama behind the beau.jes community that was inundated with trans woman exterminatory radical feminists and applied it to im.odna and bell's hells. while there were and still are people who acted like women were perfect and all the men were abusers in the c3 fandom, a lot of complaints about the guys ranging from casual nitpicks to bad faith fanfiction were painted with the same brush of “crazy man-hating feminists” (because i guess trans women don’t exist or something?) and acted like all the women were evil demons getting every one of their eviiiiiiiiil actions excused because they had estrogen in their bodies. it was fucking dark. if you headcanoned imogen as a lesbian you were basically chucking heterosexual little boys into a meatgrinder. why else do you think laudm.oore got so insufferable?
look, i get it. it got annoying seeing people demand fcg get blown up for being reckless or that laudna should eat orym or that they should have abandoned ashton on the side of the road any time any of them did something sort sighted. but the way to get around that is not to start saying that imogen’s meant to go full dark phoenix and kill the party because she’s crazy and murderous or that laudna is just a delilah chrysalis from day one and is biding her time to strike. or that they’re going to be evil demonic lesbian twin bbegs that get murdered and then perc’halia and fjorester can make out on their grave.
on the flipside, watching people chuck orym and ashton under the bus any time one of them did/does something that they took personal offense to is so odd it loops around to being funny. double if they’re a delilah stan. like, who is worse for laudna? an abusive white supremacist-adjacent woman that tortured her nonstop for 30 years and tried to kill her thrice over the past month or two guys who act like selfish tunnel-visioned pricks to her intermittently? like you think that it’d be no contest, but a shocking amount of people choose the abusive woman because they headcanon her to be far more interesting than she really is and/or “at least we’re not forced to think she’s a good person!”

Akito: "Doğum günün kutlu olsun!! 2024"
Yan Hikaye 1
Tumblr media
«Okuldan sonra, doğum gününde, Kamiyama Lisesi'nin boş bir sınıfının önünde
Nene: Yani... Partinin yapılacağı yer bu sınıf.
An: Harika! Hadi içeri girip bir göz atalım!
Akito: Hey, bir saniye.
An: Ne oldu? Tenma-senpai ve arkadaşları içeride bekliyor, o yüzden acele edip içeri girelim.
Akito: Hayır, bana kibarca bir "hatırlatıcı"’ diye bir not bile göndermişler… Açıkçası, içim hiç rahat değil.
An: Gerçekten mi? O notun içinde ne var acaba...
An: Hediye zamanı, doğum günü şerefine özel bir gösteri düzenlenecek... Eh, bu tam da Tenma-senpai'nin tarzı.
Nene: Hımm... Sanırım her şey yolunda gidecek. Bu sefer sadece sıradan bir şov yapacağız.
Akito: Gerçekten mi? Peki o zaman.
An: Ahaha!
Tsukasa: Evet! Sürpriz de başarılı olduğuna göre...
Tsukasa: HEDİYE ZAMANI GELDİ!!!!
//Ta-dam
An: Ve benden – tereyağlı ve romlu kuru üzümlü sandviçler!
An: Hadi Akito! Hepimiz seni destekliyoruz, o yüzden biz de çaba göstermeliyiz!
Akito: Evet...

When you go so far off the rails writing Ace Attorney roleplay with your boyfriend that it begins to include things such as:
- Evil, abusive Phoenix Wright planning a terrorist bombing to kill his co-lawyers in revenge for a perceived lack of control (in this timeline, he hates Apollo since he reported Phoenix for clearly selecting a biased party with the AJAA jury among other crimes)
- Blackquill, who of course is dating the real Fullbright, going on a revenge mission to murder Phoenix Wright. Both parties disappear for three years.
- A convergence of the GAA characters into the plot. This is revealed to be part of the machinations of an organization named True Justice and their primary leader, Just Authority, a robotic insane murderer with the power to meld timelines together due to something something science experiments.
- Trucy almost is killed by a drunk Valant Gramarye, who Just Authority convinces to kill for the sake of getting famous.
There are no longer any wheels on this bus but we're still somehow picking up speed. God help me.

Going to sob, okay so Murphy is throwing a party in my hometown this weekend and offered to come pick me up from my college town like an hour away that way I could come to his party, thinking he'd be picking up me and Phoenix because Phoenix and Murphy are best friends and Phoenix is also invited to said party and goes to school with me
Only, Phoenix was planning on taking the bus earlier that day back to our hometown and not getting a ride from Murphy, but Murphy doesn't like driving alone and also didn't want to have to drive on the way back, so he ends up getting his (Murphy's) boyfriend and Phoenix to come ride with him to come get me and I'm??
Phoenix woke up in [College Town] this morning, took the bus to [Hometown] drove back down third wheeling with Murphy and his boyfriend to [College Town] just to come pick me up and drive back to [Hometown] AGAIN that's literally like three plus hours of driving between the two cities in a single day what if I cried

wild dream I had
Last night I had a dream I switched majors to law because Ace Attorney inspired me. I decided to be a defense attorney because I personally want to defend the wrongly accused. So I showed up for law school except it was filled with 8-year-olds and I wasn’t allowed to curse. Also all we did was watch SpongeBob. And everywhere was designed like a courtroom. Even the bathroom was some sort of courtroom. There was even a “combat courtroom” where violence was allowed. Anyway, I ended up being forced into marriage with this guy I haven’t seen before. And everyone had a party and was given SpongeBob party favors. I hid in the bathroom which was designed like a courtroom. And I rode the school bus home, which was actually more like a wagon. The kids on the wagon were role-playing Phoenix and Edgeworth and saying “OBJECTION” before saying anything regardless of context. All while I was thinking in my head, “They don’t know Phoenix and Edgeworth are in love, your honor”

When I remember this year, it's not the triumphs or the wins, it's the oops and the silly mistakes. The weird moments in between when something I thought was supposed to happen happened, but not in the way I expected it to.
Cockfight and Woking went up - two projects that have occupied my heart and head for a while (heartspace with Cockfight and physical time space with Woking). I travelled for work a lot, went back to the east coast for a workshop, did a full season of casting at Stratty. I went to New York on a spontaneous holiday to see a lot of plays.
But these aren't the things I remember the most. Those are here:
1 - I evicted my roommate of one and a half years. Tiffany and I have had tension almost immediately since she moved in. Our communication styles weren't sympatico from the beginning (she was a passive aggressive introvert with a noise sensitivity and a bitter personality, I'm an extrovert with no issue with noise with a bitter personality that I hide behind layers of false confidence), but I held onto living with her because I knew she was leaving in March. I felt that if I just endured the bad thing it would go away - very Chinese. Our relationship hit a tipping point when I closed the door to what she decreed as too loudly in January and she started knocking on my door and swearing. Rather than endure two months more of her, I requested that she leave the next day. I took a bit of an L for this - I paid for her accomodations and her movers and had to find her a place that suited her needs (thank you Maddie), but I think this is the thing I was the most proud of this year. Someone was harming me and - rather than do what I always do and assume that I have to accommodate them as I've been raised - I confronted her about it and removed her from my life. I want to do more of this in the future. I think I yield a lot when something is bothering me because I'm afraid of seeming selfish. I want to be even more selfish in the future and have more confrontations. My home feels like a safe place to live for the first time since she moved in.
2 - In June, I found out we'd won the Audience Choice Dora for Woking Phoenix. I found this out at Fu-GEN's kitchen event (which was hilariously happening at the same time as the Doras) and was told there were tickets for the after party. I was over the moon and ran over to the Winter Garden to see if I could get in. I remember showing the security guard my phone with the award on it and being like "i want to buy tickets to the after party" and promptly being told that I couldn't get in. People tried giving me their tickets and I couldn't get in. So rather than go inside and feel celebrated for winning a silly trophy, I waited outside in what my girlfriend describes as "loser behaviour" for 2 hours saying hi to people as they waited for cabs and ubers. I don't know what the lesson is from this, but it was a wonderfully humbling experience that as per usual reminded me that awards are temporary and humiliation is forever. And it sort of reminded me of my own career - begging to be let into buildings that people were exiting. Thank you for voting for Woking Phoenix though - seriously. This instagram account only speaks for me (as it's mine), but after 5 years of working on the project, winning grants and finally doing the thing - it felt vindicating for the community to have the project's back the same way you all did during the run.
3 - During Annie auditions, my nose bled for 30-45 minutes and then proceeded to erupt on the stratford bus home. I bled for another hour on the bus, over my clothes and on my hands. I did not bleed in front of the children (thank god), but I really need to get this fixed. Camille did not help me on this trip and took a nap.
4 - I know I said I wouldn't talk about the blanket good stuff, but going to New York this year as a knee jerk decision in October felt really fulfilling. Doing a spontaneous vacation as a kind of reward for all the stuff that happened this year, running through Chinatown, putting in 20000 steps as Luke birdwatched felt right. Also seeing theatre outside Ontario. I feel I really grew during this trip and felt artistically inspired in ways I hadn't in a long long time.
5 - In the midst of a year of so much theatre and things that were arguably achievements of mine, I find myself learning the most about what I'm unable to do as a artist at this point in my career. What my own blindspots are. I don't say this as a derogatory, but I think I want to get better. I keep giving direction like "don't push", but what does "Push" actually mean? What does rigour actually mean? What does following an intention to the end of the line actually mean? Am I giving too many notes? Am I giving too few notes? How can I be clearer to designers? What actually makes acting/production/choreography good in my eyes - in understandable words? What is a strong vision? I think this year made me start to see the limits of my own ability to articulate things in clarity - that even if my teams believe it, do I actually believe or understand what I'm saying? Is my desire to keep working with fans who are excited to work with me in part me avoiding clarity with working with strangers who don't understand me, share my sense of humor or don't understand my vision? I'm going to spend 2025 training and working on my craft. I want to enter 2026 a stronger theatre artist than I am now.
I SAW 55 PLAYS THIS YEAR. I LOVED
Sunset Blvd
The Inheritance Part 1 and 2
The Hills of California
Salesman in China
The Diviners
Rat Academy
My favourite video game of the year was Final Fantasy VII Rebirth - a game that I played over the span of 8 months and never felt bored by because I took my damn time.
My favourite movie of the year was Look Back.
I want to have a 2025 where I pick fights, where I don't feel shy, where I participate openly and question everything I do in how specific I can be. I don't want to waffle or suffer in silence. I want to prioritize learning and growing and let my own hunger and curiosity shape my year rather than being shy and waiting for permission.

We have a new citizen in Mount Phoenix:
Dove Lewis, a 26 year old daughter of Ma'at.             She is a professor at Phoenix University and forensics consultant for the MPPD.
FC NAME/GROUP: Han Dong, Dreamcatcher CHARACTER NAME: Dove Lewis AGE/DATE OF BIRTH: 26 / March 26, 1998 PLACE OF BIRTH: Wuhan, China; but she grew up in Oxford OCCUPATION: Professor of Forensic Science at Phoenix University; Forensics Consultant for the MPPD HEIGHT: 165 cm WEIGHT: 46 kg DEFINING FEATURES: Doe eyes, wears large round glasses when studying and working.
PERSONALITY: Dove is quiet, driven, and studious. Having spent most of her life being privately tutored and stuck in the bubble of her adopted family, she is very friendly but often comes off as a little socially awkward. She tries her best to be optimistic in any situation and always seeks to cheer up and encourage the people around her.
She is also honest to a fault, practically unable to lie - although she can occasionally get away with a very small white lie if it is to protect someone’s feelings. But even then, it is usually not very believable. Despite being able to tell when others are lying, she rarely feels comfortable calling them out on it, as she hates confrontation.
HISTORY: Dove cannot remember the orphanage, or whatever came before it. She does not even remember her birth name. Her parents, the Lewises, told her that she had been given up by her mother when she was just an infant, and she had lived in a Chinese orphanage until she was three, when they found her and took her home to their big manor house in Oxford, England.
Dove had always been told that she was special. Her adopted parents constantly praised her intelligence, manners, and appearance. She and her brother were given everything they could have ever wanted - toys, books, pets, private tutors for both academics and hobbies. She felt like a fairytale princess, whisked away from an unfortunate situation and into a life of privilege and luxury.
At first, aside from being a particularly bright and well-behaved child, her parents did not notice anything odd about her. That changed when her powers began developing. She was eight, and suddenly she was catching them in every lie they told, no matter how mundane. When her little sister Wren - the Lewises’ “miracle baby” - was born, she would not believe any stories about storks or the like. And sometimes, she would meet someone at one of her parents’ parties and flinch away after shaking their hand, avoiding them for the rest of the night while insisting they were “a bad person” without any explanation.
However, this strange intuition did not hinder her much as she grew up. She excelled in school, even skipping a few grades - although she could never catch up to her genius brother. When the time came to go to university, her father had hoped that she would go into business and join the company so that they could put her lie detecting abilities to good use. However, she had very little interest in any of that.
Instead, she got into Oxford to double-major in Biology and Criminology. Once she had her Bachelor of Science under her belt, she went for a master’s degree in Forensic Science. And finally, when she was freshly 22, she began a PhD in Forensic Science. She did not really know if she wanted to teach or just work in a lab, but it did not matter - she just wanted to learn everything she could in her field. She had always been fascinated by forensic science, and she had always loved learning, so it only seemed right to get the highest level of education possible.
After all, her parents may not have loved her chosen subject, but they still supported her fully, both emotionally and monetarily, allowing her to become Doctor Dove Lewis at only 25 years old.
...
Everything was going well, until one Saturday in autumn. She and Griffon were sitting in the home library, chatting while they each did their own work. That was when their parents burst in. Wren had gone for a walk that morning and hadn’t come back. She wasn’t answering her phone, and they couldn’t even track it because it was off - or broken.
There was a nearby cave system that Wren liked to explore, so they started there. Dove and Griffon had run ahead, worried that their sister had fallen and injured herself.
But when they entered the cave, they came face-to-face with something much worse.
It was a grotesque creature, a mixture of several different animals with a woman’s face. It reminded Dove of the creature that terrorized Thebes in Oedipus. But things like that didn’t exist. They couldn’t.
And yet, it was standing over the crumpled, bloodied corpse of their little sister.
Dove’s knees gave out. She couldn’t tear her eyes away from Wren, even as the creature stepped over her body and approached them. Luckily, it did not matter, because the creature did not attack. It spoke. It said something that had the cadence of a riddle, but somehow the words simply did not register for her. Her mind was racing even faster than her pulse and the only thought breaking through the noise was that her sister was dead.
She pressed her hand to her mouth, tears streaming down her cheeks. The sphinx slunk close enough that she could have reached out and touched it. Close enough that it could easily lash out a massive paw and tear her to ribbons with its claws. It seemed like it was waiting for an answer, but she couldn’t even open her mouth to scream or sob.
She was sure that they were going to die in that cave too. But then Griffon spoke. River? Was that what he had said? Maybe she had misheard that too. But just like that, the creature nodded and backed off.
Just then, a wail echoed through the cave. Their parents. She had forgotten they were following a little ways behind. A hand gripped her around the arm and pulled her to her feet. Her father was shouting, looking between this living children. “What happened? What did you do?”
The sphinx disappeared into the cave, and their mother ran over to Wren. Between sobs, she looked back at them and shrieked: “You two did this! You led that thing here! If you didn’t have… This is your fault!”
It felt like a nightmare Dove couldn’t wake up from.
It took hours for them to deal with the police, for the first responders to take away Wren’s body. By the time everyone left and they were all silently sitting in the living room, Dove felt empty and numb. Her face and throat hurt from crying. Nothing made sense anymore.
“My child is dead. You two… You aren’t our family. Get out and never come back!” She had never heard her mom so angry, and she had never seen so much hate in her eyes. It made her feel sick.
...
That night, they sat in a hotel room, their only possessions contained in two hastily packed bags - some clothes, some books, a few treasured trinkets. At least they had had the foresight to stop by an ATM and clean out their personal bank accounts before they were frozen. They may have been homeless and alone, but they did not have to sleep on the streets. That would have been the only thing that could make the situation worse.
They hardly talked that night. They didn’t eat. They laid side-by-side in one of the beds, but neither of them could sleep. Dove’s heart nearly shattered when her brother turned to look at her and asked: “It wasn’t our fault, right?”
She shook her head, reaching over to grab his hand and hold on to it like a lifeline. “No. She didn’t mean it. Somewhere deep down, they know we didn’t do anything to cause this…” And she knew that was true, but that knowledge did nothing to stop her tears or make her feel better.
A few days later, the front desk called to tell them they had received a letter - strange, since no one knew they were staying there, not even their parents.
The letter explained that they were demigods. That the sphinx had been after them because it could sense their divine blood. That it was a rare tragedy. And, it invited them to an island called Mount Phoenix, where it was safe for people like them. It even included an offer for both of them to teach at the university.
With nothing left tying them to Oxford anymore, they decided to accept the invitation. Griffon went ahead first, while Dove stayed behind for a few weeks to tie up the last few loose ends. They just didn’t want anyone else to get hurt because of them.
PANTHEON: Egyptian CHILD OF: Ma’at POWERS: Dove can get an idea of a person’s true nature just by looking at them, and can tell what their intentions are in the moment with a single touch. Additionally, she cannot be lied to, and she cannot tell a lie herself. STRENGTHS: Earnest, hardworking, possesses excellent critical thinking skills, compassionate, sweet, helpful. WEAKNESSES: Cannot lie, timid, a push-over, easily overwhelmed, can be rather stubborn, uses her work to avoid unpleasant thoughts/feelings.
