#Para: December/January Flashback

New Year, 2024.

He stares blankly at Melissa's text-message as it flashes across his phone screen.

"Are you in Launceston?"

No, because he doesn't understand this business of toasting champagne with one's enemies, in a place teeming with them that his family had done well to abandon. Of course, toasting enemies is an occasional inevitability in London; at events they all have vested interest in attending, or else cede the limelight to an undesirable other.

But Launceston is not London. Why the Rutherfords would ever need chase French cul or any other into a foreign city, he cannot for the life of him understand.

It's sloppy, unnecessary. And too much potential for ill-advised liaisons.

The surgeon releases a sigh, leaning back in his chair. Maybe his family is right, and he is softhearted after all — unable to fathom the thought of shooting the same people you'd willingly toasted mere weeks ago.

Or — perhaps he's every bit as calculating as the eldest son of a mobster, who, in another lifetime, might've been forced to lead his father's people. Calculating enough to know that mingling in such ways would only make his own soldiers less willing to pull the trigger when asked of them. Less loyal.

He doesn't understand it, but he's glad that in this lifetime, it's not his conundrum to resolve. Setting aside his cellphone, Gideon turns his attention back to his work. He needs to reserve every bit of calculation for a problem of his own, anyhow. A priority. 

He's not exactly sure how his father caught wind of his intentions – Was it the frequent drop-ins to his lawyer's office in recent weeks? The indefatigable rumour mill that was London's press?... Or had his father specifically taxed some sorry pigeon with the job of gathering, every so often, intel on his wayward son? – but it's become abundantly clear that Andrew knows. Clear, by the gift that had come on Christmas Day, inside a card neatly scrawled in his father's own penmanship.

Gideon, A man may have the world, but if his child wants no part in it, what good does it do either of them? So saying, I trust even you won't turn your nose up at this humble offering... For my grandson's sake. Happy Christmas. — A.R.

Along with the card and an extravagantly-summed cheque, was a referral appointment to the exclusive services of a custody lawyer. Some internet hunting later had revealed the lawyer had made his name overseas and had now returned to London.

Though he'd kept the card, he'd had too much pride to take the money. Blood money. Not that Gideon didn't see the appeal; what was pocket money to Andrew Rutherford was a significant cut of his own annual paycheck, even as a neurosurgeon splitting his time between both public and private sectors in one of the most prestigious cities in the world. But he'd been stubborn since the day he'd earned his first payslip, and the way things were looking, he'd be stubborn until his last. So he'd sent the cheque back with a brief but polite Christmas note in return.

He may have been too proud to take the money, but that doesn't mean he's foolish enough to ignore the legal recommendation of a mobster who'd notoriously spent the last four decades of his life dodging the law and finagling his way out of the courtroom. Whatever else may be said of him, Andrew Rutherford knows how to win a case – or – the right people to employ to win it for him. 

And even if the lead proves to be a dead end, had not the last year given him repeated, painful reminder that he needs to refocus his attention on his own life? Maybe Nora's right, and he's spent too long shooting himself in the foot by fighting other people's battles or martyring himself for the wrong causes. Maybe Yvonne is also right, and he needs to quit falling on his sword in defense of everyone around him. Maybe he needs to keep the secret he'd shared with Leyla on his birthday, too.

And maybe, despite all that and every good intention along the way — the lead will fail.

Maybe it won't make an ounce of a difference in the end. He's squared up against his ex-wife in court once before already and had won nothing for his efforts but public humiliation. A second attempt over the years had been thwarted before the judge had even riffled through his painstakingly collected pile of evidence.

What good will a third trial do?...

But for all the cynicism in his heart, Gideon knows he owes Felix this much. Owes him a hundred attempts to pull him out from under the influence of a selfish, fame-spoilt, cocaine-fueled mother; who'd struggle to choose between their son and her next hit. At least, until such a time as his beloved, now-six-year-old boy comes of an age when he can choose such parental influences for himself.

Gideon glances at the clock. In half an hour, he's meant to meet his girlfriend to watch fireworks on a rooftop and ring in the New Year. Enough time to finish this email, the one addressed to the so-called 'Mr. Dalton, Q.C.' with regard to his plight. Besides, the Rutherford doesn't need any more time to think of his resolutions before 2023 fades into the annals of the past. He's made his one – and only one – resolution already.

... It's time to get his son back.

Event 03 - Last Year's Christmas Party

It's December 23, 2022 and the annual Wexley Building Christmas party is in full swing, all residents are invited and the night begins with an announcement from The Wexley's that all of January's rent will be free as a gift from them. The giant Wexley signature tree sparkling in the Atrium is joined with lavish decorations around the two story space. Rosie's and the W are offering free goodies all night and endless champagne after 8pm, and there's dancing The Common Room. Keep an eye out for the mistletoe hanging from the doorways and remember to steal a kiss from your sweetheart! Don't forget to stop by and say hello to Santa Claus who will be available for pictures and gifts for children until 8pm. Childcare services will be available free of charge in The Media Room where Christmas movies and themed activities and snacks will be provided by Wexley staff until midnight.

This Holiday Flashback Event will last from today until January 2nd. There is no need to pause current threads, but we request you not start any new non-event threads until the event is done. Participation is not mandatory as the admins understand, and are under themselves, the same holiday time writing constraints. For characters not in the Wexley in December of 2022 or who would not have participated in the merriment, even a self para, etc, of where they were and what they did for The Holidays that year would be wonderful to see!

Para: December/January Flashback.

Time: Four years before the events of ( Hold On To The Memories, They Will Hold On To You ) Events taking place in December/January of Blaine’s Senior Year and Sebastian’s Junior Year. Blaine (17) Seb(16).

Location: Sebastian’s House. Westerville, Ohio

Info: Blaine’s parents are tragically killed in an icy car accident on Sunday, December 28, the day after Blaine and Sebastian spend their incredible night together. A devastated Blaine deals with the aftermath of his parents death in the only way he knows how which results in two very broken hearted teenage boys.

Warnings(PLEASE READ THIS): This para includes mentions of parental death(Both) and a whole bunch of self loathing. There’s a break up and it does not have a happy ending for our boys. This was not fun to write at all, but remember they’re very much endgame- soulmates.

Notes: Some canon events remain in place while others have been changed. Some things may even be out of order. You can consider this sort of canon divergent AU. A few changes are that Blaine’s parents are different from the show (His mother is Filipina), he didn’t cheat on Kurt or date Dave and Sebastian is younger than Blaine. Feel free to send a message if you have any questions!

Blaine’s POV:

“There was ice on the r-road. God, they’re gone, Blaine. I-I don’t know how else to say it. Mom and dad are gone…”

He could still hear his brother’s panicked, weepy voice ringing in his ear. Could still feel the icy chill run through his body as the words sunk into him, pulling him down into a darkness that he’d never felt before. That Sunday, after having the most incredible night, Blaine went from feeling the best he’d ever felt to feeling like he was suffocating in despair. It felt like someone had thrown him into the Arctic with nothing but the clothes on his back. He remembered waiting for Cooper to come home, remembered how quiet and too big the house had felt, how the silence had pushed into his brain and it was maddening...that fucking quiet. But, on the inside his thoughts felt loud and chaotic and he was screaming, screaming, screaming. But if you walked by and saw him you just see a teenager, small and lost just standing there numbly as people in uniforms and nice suits talked at him about what would happen to him next.

That had been two weeks ago. Will and Imelda Anderson had been laid to rest and Cooper had moved from California to Ohio while Blaine finished out his Senior year. All the therapists and people in charge had told Cooper it wouldn’t be fitting to take him out of school to move across the country at a time like this. So, against everything he wanted, Cooper was back in Ohio, miserable and trying to figure out how to be a parental figure while in mourning and in a house with nothing but ghosts and memories that were still too fresh- so fresh that they cut like knives to think about.

The weeks had gone by in a blur, he hadn’t been back to school yet, and was dreading the day that he’d have to. He wasn’t sure how he was supposed to function as a person when his whole world had been shattered. The only thing he’d been able to bring himself to do was see Sebastian, and even that hurt him because he couldn’t even smile for him. He’d been at the Smythe’s almost every single day since it happened, he’d tried to go see Sam but all he got was pitying looks from Sam's parents and he couldn’t handle it. Sabine, Seb’s mom,  had simply pulled him into a hug and in her soothing lilt told him she was there for him and that was that.

Today was the fourteen day since they’d been killed, and it had been fifteen days since Blaine had last gotten to hug them, or speak to them in person,  and it was the twelfth day since his parents had been put in the ground . He wasn’t doing well at all. He was wrapped up in Sebastian’s arms on their couch in his basement, his back to the room, his face turned and pressed into Seb’s chest, his arms wrapped tightly around Seb’s slender frame, as he fought his hardest not to fucking cry again as the mumblings from some movie played in the background. Going to Seb’s house was the only place he felt a fraction of okay, but he also felt like absolute shit everytime he went there.

He always started out his trips promising himself he would find a balance and every time he went over there he’d tell himself today would be the day he’d smile for Sebastian, and today would be the day that he’d give him a real kiss, not just a peck, but a real one with that showed all the pent up feelings he still had for him- they had just been pushed down because Blaine didn’t know if he had anymore room for anything other than pain. He wanted to follow through, wanted to smile for Seb and kiss him properly because Seb deserved that. He’d been nothing but supportive and sympathetic, and had stood by him like a dutiful boyfriend (even though they didn’t say that outloud) throughout everything and Blaine was the worst kind of person because he couldn’t even muster a half smile for his person.

It occurred to him right then that he may never be able to smile again. He may never be able to properly kiss Sebastian the same way he had two weeks ago when everything was as perfect as a winter snow globe scene. Sure, Seb didn’t seem to mind and also seemed content to hold Blaine close and talked to him like a person instead of a ticking bomb, but it killed Blaine that Seb’s life was just put on hold because of him. Blaine’s broken heart ached impossibly more at the thought and he felt like the most selfish person in the world for dragging the other boy around. And all at once he found himself sobbing again, big,  loud, wailing and snotty sobs that sounded so raw and the front of Seb’s shirt would be wet again. Fuck, Sebastian didn’t fucking deserve this. He deserved so much better than this version of Blaine. This broken carbon copy. He felt like the old version of himself died with his parents, leaving his friends and person with a hollowed out, crybaby version of himself.

He cried, and struggled to catch his breath, and clung so tightly to Seb that when he finally stopped there were black spots in his vision and he felt weak. Possibly because he’d hardly eaten, but mostly because crying was exhausting and that’s all he did lately. Everything hurt, mentally and physically. His voice was high pitched and pathetic when he finally found it.

“God damnit, I’m so sorry, Seb.”

Sebastian’s POV:

Sebastian hoped he was being helpful. He had never had to console somebody, had never even attended a funeral before. Never had to stand in the back of a stuffy room full of too many black ties and random casseroles and  the scent of carnations heavy in the air. He did it all, though. Sebastian picked out his best suit and hung back until Blaine needed him, squeezed his hand during the procession to the graveyard, sent flowers by instruction of his mother and took a prayer card home and brought Blaine water and crackers when he cried so hard he started to heave. He did it all quietly and patiently and spoke his condolences in hugs and kisses on the cheek. Sebastian knew that saying sorry wasn’t enough and that Blaine needed time, which nobody could give him.

Sabine had made it clear that their home was open and that the other boy was welcome. Sebastian spent so many nights holding Blaine as random movie credits rolled in the background, his boyfriend sobbing until he fell asleep. He was thankful for the little slices of peace sleep brought to Blaine. Eating was pretty much out of the question but Sebastian always offered granola bars and fruit snacks. He never minded when his shirts got soggy with tears or sweat from a nightmare that Blaine had. He just wanted Blaine to feel better, just wanted him to survive this.

Seb clung tight to Blaine as he sobbed. He wished his hands could force the broken puzzle pieces of his boy back together again. He rubbed circles in Blaine’s back and kept quiet, just let him cry it all out as he stared at the flashing tv screen. Sebastian watched as Snow White ran through a haunted forest and thought to himself that it seemed like Blaine was stuck in the same place but instead of trees, it was all ice and crashing metal and broken glass.

“Hey, don’t be sorry,” Sebastian shook his head. “I have plenty of shirts.”

Blaine’s POV:

Blaine forced himself to sit up on the couch, he held onto Seb for leverage,  his body swaying a bit as the dizziness took over him. He knew he needed to eat something soon, knew that he needed to take care of himself if he ever hoped to feel better at all. The thought of food made him feel nauseated, everything he’d eaten in the last two weeks had tasted like dust on his tongue and had been even harder to swallow.  How long was he going to feel like this? A hopeless pit of despair that pulled him under more and more each day. Would he ever feel better? He looked over at Seb, embarrassment and pain evident on his face and the fact that his first thought wasn’t how happy the other boy made him feel anymore, but rather how miserable Seb must be sitting here with him day after day, all the hours blurring into one never-ending session of comforting Blaine as he cried or asked why over and over again knowing there wasn’t answer- was devastating to Blaine and he didn’t know what the fuck to do about it.

They’d been following this pattern for two weeks, Seb had come as soon as Blaine called him that day and had been by his side every single day since. Sure, Blaine knew this is what couples did, know that when you cared about someone you were there for them, you held them close and kissed their head and told them that you’ve got them the way Seb had been doing. But, Seb was a sixteen year old kid and his junior year was slowly slipping by him while he put everything on hold for Blaine. Lacrosse would be starting up soon, how could Blaine ask Seb to miss it? How could Blaine be so selfish to keep him here when he had no clue when he’d feel better.  Seb was going to hate him for this eventually. He just fucking knew it.

Still, the thought of being without him. The thought of not getting to touch him,  kiss him, or press close to him under the covers, or to eventually tell him that he loved him- Blaine still hadn’t gotten to tell him, made him want to throw up and again, he didn’t know what to do. He swallowed hard, his mind running wild with the thought that Sebastian was secretly sick of him and his breath hitched and another little sob escaped which turned into another one. It didn’t occur to Blaine to take a deep breath, and maybe tell Seb that he loved him now, or that Seb might say it back. Blaine couldn’t convince himself that Seb was okay just holding him, that Seb was happy to be there for him while he mourned. Blaine had been slowly convincing himself since the first time he sobbed into his shirt that Seb was miserable. And that he was just being selfish by keeping him around. He sniffled, Seb’s words making his bottom lip wobble in their sweetness.

“God, you’re perfect.” He sobbed out, not able to keep the control over his words like he needed. “I lo-” He wanted to say I love you so much, you’ve been amazing, I just don’t know what to do right now, you need to live your life…And his mouth wouldn’t let him say it, and all over again he felt sick, like he was actually going to throw up even though the only thing he had in his body were a few crackers and some water from hours ago.

“I can’t. God, I don’t know what to do.”

Sebastian’s POV:

Sebastian wished he could read Blaine’s mind. He couldn’t decipher anything on his tear stained face except for pain. He just nodded as the other boy struggled for words, rubbed his back in what he hoped was soothing circles.

“You don’t have to know what to do, B.” He knew his words were never going to be enough but he couldn’t let Blaine’s hurt hang in the air ignored. Seb was okay pushing his homework off until Blaine left, was okay with driving to Blaine’s directly after Warbler rehearsal, could tolerate watching one million Katy Perry videos and old movies in an effort to cheer the other boy up. He was down for anything even if it meant sitting in silence. Sure, he missed how Blaine was just a few short weeks ago. But, he knew he’d never get him back unless they dealt with the monstrous tragedy that clung to his guy. If that meant tear soaked hoodies and half drunk water bottles and cracker crumbs then so be it.

“Do you want me to go get you anything?” Sebastian hated forcing Blaine to eat but he knew he probably needed something soon, he could feel him shake. “I’ll get you whatever you want.”

Blaine’s POV:

Blaine could feel his breathing pick up, he was balancing on the edge of a full on panic attack and he didn’t know how to reel it all back in. He teetered there, and he knew in his hearts of hearts all he had to do was reach out and ask Sebastian to help him through it. All he had to do was lean on him for a little bit longer and eventually he’d be there, he’d get through all of this but… his brain seemed to be blocking him from accepting that. He’ll wake up one day and he’ll find that he hates you for ruining what’s left of his junior year. He could have been out having fun, but he stayed cooped up in a basement for god knows how long you feel like this and he missed out on everything good. He won’t be able to concentrate on Lacrosse or the Warblers because of you. He’ll miss out on dances and prom and touching and sex all because you’re sad, Blaine. You've got to let him go.

He looked at Seb, really looked at him- Taking his beautiful face, his green eyes wide and eager to please him, ready to help him however he could. And Blaine had never loved another person besides his parents as much as he loved Sebastian Smythe in this moment. Tears slipped quietly down his face as he cupped Seb’s in between his hands and leaned forward to press a kiss against familiar lips. The kiss tasted salty from his tears and Blaine wondered if he’d ever get to do it again.

“You, god Seb, you’ve been so perfect.” His words were choppy and his breath hitched and he felt so sick to his stomach. How was he supposed to do this? How was he supposed to be unselfish when all he wanted was to cuddle back up and let Sebastian take care of him? “I-I think we-” his words felt heavy and wrong and he stood up, wrapping his arms around himself and he felt so small and if only his mother were here, she’d help him understand why he was about to break his own fucking heart. She’d tell him how to deal with his feelings and keep what he loved in the process.

A little voice in his head that sounded very much like himself, only weaker spoke up, pleading with this new, sorrowful version of Blaine. You don’t want this, Blaine. He’s the best person for you to be around, he’s the only one that makes you feel halfway okay. Just fucking tell him that you love him finally and that you’ll feel better one day and thank him for being there for you. But, Blaine’s mouth said something different and what was left of his tattered heart broke right in two as he spoke and he sounded like a stranger to himself.

“I think we should maybe take a break for a bit.” He could hardly look at Seb, his person's handsome face went from confused to shocked, like he had been slapped, in a split second. “I want to be with you, I just don’t know how to be right now, Seb and it’s not fucking fair to you and I think maybe if I could just try to figure how to breathe maybe I could be better for you and I think the only way I can do that is if I-I do it alone.” You’re so stupid, Blaine. You’re so wrong. Don’t do this to him. Don’t do this to yourself… More miserable tears fell, this time wetting his own shirt and not Seb’s. “I’m so sorry, I don’t know how else to do this…”

Sebastian’s POV:

Sebastian kissed Blaine back but it didn’t feel like the kisses they usually shared. It felt too slow, tasted like salt instead of cherry, and it felt like the last one they’d share. He blinked a few times and tried to shake the empty, sunken feeling that started to fall through his body.  Suddenly Blaine was speaking but he didn’t sound like himself and Seb felt like he was having an out of body experience. Was he being broken up with? What had he done wrong? Blaine constantly told him how good he was but now it felt like he wasn’t good enough and that was too familiar of a feeling for him.

He swallowed the thick lump in his throat and closed his eyes for a moment, Sebastian really didn’t want to burst into tears, the thought made a swirl of anxiety rush through his head. He also didn’t want to beg but everything in him was screaming for another chance.  Sebastian put his hands up in an effort to stop Blaine from speaking. He suddenly felt so pissed off his hands trembled.

“You don’t get to decide what I need or want. Nobody gets to decide any of that except for me!” His voice was higher than he had intended and he hoped Blaine didn’t notice the warble of tears trapped in his throat.  Sebastian stood up from the couch. He wanted to punch the wall, wanted to knock the tv over, wanted to run to his room and burrow into the covers, wanted to scream and cry into his pillows.

“This makes no sense. I thought I was helping you. You….you said I was good. You just….get to throw me away like everybody else.”

The tears finally fell down his face and he felt like he couldn’t breathe. He was so mad at himself for giving into crying, for looking weak in front of the only person he wanted to impress,

“Get. Out. Get out! I don’t fucking want you here anymore.”

The words were out of his mouth before he could take them back and his feet stomped up the basement stairs, past his mother in the kitchen, his back was pressed to his bedroom door before he let himself take a deep breath that ended in a sob. 

Blaine’s POV:

Blaine watched as Sebastian struggled through what he’d said, the other boys face breaking his heart just that little bit more and Blaine wanted to reach out to him and pull him close and tell him that he didn’t mean it. Because he really didn’t mean it, he didn’t want to do this. He knew that with his whole heart that he shouldn’t have done this, that there had to be a better way to deal with his hopelessness, but he didn’t know what it was. He was just trying to save Seb from the inevitable catastrophe of being stuck with someone that was only half living. He wanted more than anything, except maybe to have his parents back, to stay right here and let Seb bring him back to life one day. But, he knew it was selfish, even if Sebastian couldn’t see it right now.

“Seb you are good, please, that’s not what this is about. You did everything right! I’ m not doing this beca-” The rise in Sebastian’s voice cut him off and his breath hitched at his angry words and Blaine tried to reach for him as he pushed past him and took off up the stairs, but Seb was fast and his words were still echoing in his ears minutes  after he had left. The space where he’d been still felt charged and full and Blaine wondered if he’d always feel him there.

The air around him felt suffocating and and the room was so still, so quiet that the voice in his head was screaming desperately at him to go up the stairs and to find Seb and tell him that he’d been wrong to say that, that his head was just messed up and that he needed him by his side while he figured everything out. But, his self hatred had already started to settle and he had already convinced himself that he didn’t deserve that comfort. If he could make that wonderful, beautiful boy sob like that how could he ever think he deserved to keep him around? His body ached as he forced himself to put his coat on and then his shoes and each step up into the main part of the house felt like glass on bare skin and he prayed to a god he didn’t know if he believed in that Sabine wasn’t still in the kitchen. He hoped she’d gone to Seb, hoped that he wouldn’t have to see her disappointed face. Though a tiny little part of him hoped she might hug him like mother’s do but he knew he didn’t deserve that and that it was selfish to want it.

He managed to get himself out of the house without running into anyone and without looking at anything, lest the memories grab hold of him and pull him under. It didn’t occur to him until he was outside in the cold January air that he hadn’t driven here. He’d been too nervous to drive since his parents' accident, so afraid that he’d slide off the road too so Seb had been picking him up and bringing him to his house. Blaine’s bottom lip quivered at the thought, how sweet it was that Seb would go out of his way like that so he wouldn’t have to think further about his mom and dad. He pressed a hand over his mouth as he pulled his phone out of his pocket and tried to ignore the background photo of him and Seb smiling up at the camera. He thought about calling Sam to get him, but Sam was in Lima and it would take him too long. Instead he was forced to call Cooper. His big brother made it known that Blaine was being an dumb and that he wasn’t thinking clearly and why would he do this, but something in Blaine’s face maybe told him that he knew all of that and Coop shut up for the rest of the ride home.

He’d managed to make it into his bedroom before bursting into a new wave of tears. This time with an added loss, one of his own making. He cried so fucking hard he threw up, he’d only eaten crackers and water so it hurt and he thought maybe he deserved it. And as he pressed his forehead to the cold toilet seat it hit him how much he didn’t want this. He knew he’d fucked up. He knew it without a doubt and regret and self loathing filled him up and he threw up once again. Finally he managed to pull himself up and he put himself into pajamas and cleaned his teeth and face before curling up on his bed. It had been four hours since he’d left Seb and each hour hurt so badly he thought he might die. He’d never experience this kind of thing before and he wondered if he’d ever feel good again. With shaking hands he tried to reach Sebastian, one last plea for understanding or maybe forgiveness.

Blaine(8:02 pm): I know you don’t want to hear from me right now, but please give me this chance… Blaine(8:07pm):  I’m not throwing you away, you’re not something anyone could do that to, you are so much more than that. You’re an amazing person that deserves so much more than I can give you right now. I’m trying to keep you from hating me in the long run. Why would you want to spend your time trying to fix someone that may not be able to be fixed? I don't know if I’ll ever feel right again and god… Blaine(8:13pm): You’ve done everything right. I need you to know that. You’re perfect. The best thing that’s ever happened to me, you mean so fucking much to me. I didn’t do this because I don’t want to be with you. I want to be with you more than anything... I just don’t know when I’ll ever feel like me again and that’s not fair to you. Please, don’t think it’s because of you. I’m the messed up one and you deserve better. Blaine(9:15pm): Please, Seb. Talk to me. I’m begging you. Anything, I’ll take anything. I miss you so much already.

He curled into himself, his phone clutched in his fingers like a life line and while he thought he might not be able to cry anymore he managed to cry himself into a fitful sleep. When he woke up the next afternoon, the only messages he had were from Cooper and Sam and he cried all over again. He’d broken his own heart into tiny little pieces and now he was sure he’d done the same to Sebastian, he regretted it more than anything he’d ever done and probably anything he would ever do again. He stayed in bed and ignored everyone for the rest of the day. His heart aching with each beat as if it could also feel the three giant holes December and January had left in him. He’d not only lost his parents, but he’d lost his person, someone he was sure he was meant to be with and he’d done it to himself all because he couldn’t figure out how to exist anymore.

He’d give anything for his dad to tell him he’d be okay and to feel the squeeze of his hand on his shoulder, or to feel his mothers arms around him again, whispering how much she loved him, or to see Seb’s for Blaine only smile light up the room and take his breath away. None of these things were possible. He felt worthless and alone, and still so very much in love and he knew, without a shadow of doubt, that he’d feel this way forever.

Sebastian’s POV:

Sebastian didn’t know when he fell asleep. It was somewhere between his mother softly knocking on his bedroom door and the snow beginning to fall outside his bedroom window. His entire body felt tired and heavy in a way he had never experienced, not even after Lacrosse games or Warbler rehearsal. Sebastian reached for his phone in the tangle of blankets out of habit and saw the splash of texts across his screen. Seeing Blaine’s name brought up another surge of confusing emotions- sadness, anger, loss. He didn’t want to respond. He wasn’t sure how to articulate how he felt and his gut reaction was to say something mean. Seb decided to not say anything at all and deleted all of the messages. Maybe it wasn’t fair but was it fair that Blaine was already saying he missed him?

In the back of his head, behind all of the stubbornness, Sebastian knew that Blaine was going through a lot and this was all a part of his mourning. He just couldn’t let go of the hurt or the embarrassment or the fact that the other boy decided to make the decision for the both of them. Sebastian threw his phone across the room, he didn’t want to hear from anybody for the rest of the night or maybe even the rest of the week. He wondered if his mother would let him skip class tomorrow or if his father would let him move onto campus during the week (it might help in avoiding Blaine).

Sebastian stared at his dark bedroom ceiling and a million feelings and thoughts infiltrated his mind and body. He took a deep breath but it wavered with the threat of tears. He wanted this to be over, wanted to numb how sad his heart felt and how unwanted he was. How terrible was love anyway? You give everything for another person, you let them see every ugly part of you and you give up all of your time for them and you still end up thrown away like old newspapers. Was it ever enough? Everybody reminded him all of the time he wasn’t worth it and Blaine had solidified that for him. Sebastian decided he’d never fucking do it again.

Seb snuck into his father’s study, stole  a bottle of whiskey and made it back into his bedroom without being seen. He drank until he didn’t feel anything but the floaty, dizzy spin of too much alcohol. The whiskey lulled him to sleep but he dreamt of Blaine the entire night.

Welcome to Colony 22′s Holiday AU Bingo Challenge!

Since the last AU Bingo board was such a hit, we decided now would be the perfect time for volume 2—holiday style! It’s our hope that this little (totally optional) game will help give you fun bursts of muse during a quieter season on the dash, and lots of engaging things to explore, whether you’re interested in canon self-paras or headcanons, non-canon AU threads, or playful graphics, for yourself or for others!

Of course as it is not actually December in the RP verse, the ‘holiday’ theme is mostly for us muns, but is also intentionally vague—you may explore any holiday, family gathering, religious or non-religious tradition that strikes your fancy or that inspires you based on the tiles above! (i.e. in the RP verse, it’s actually around Passover time, so you may prefer to explore something along those themes, or any other holiday your character(s) would have participated in—or even decidedly not participated in). I also know snow and winter and some of the traditions references don’t apply to everyone for the December holidays, but feel free to get creative and explore them in whatever way you like!

How it Works

Each square on the board has a theme that you can incorporate into any kind of creative work you wish! The WHITE tiles (trope themes) are specifically AU, and are intended for any written or other creative works that involve other characters from the RP but are intentionally an Alternate Universe and therefore non-canon. (Of course, mentions/inclusions of characters other than your own in self-paras etc will require the consent of other muns!) The BLUE tiles, however, are WORD PROMPTS and can also be used to explore canon things, including flashbacks/self-paras, moodboards, headcanons, etc. (If you choose to do any of these blue tile word prompts as AUs instead, then be sure it’s clearly labelled as such!)

Additionally, for the AU Themes, if you are interested in writing threads with other players, you are certainly welcome to do them as paras (might be a great opportunity if you need to up your para counts) but you are also welcome to explore chat threads—and here’s a fun kicker: if you wish, you may choose alternate faceclaims for the threads, if the AU involves any age changes (your character as a kid or teenager, or perhaps your character older and married or so on and so forth!) But of course, this is totally optional!

Written Work

Written work (self-paras, para or chat threads, poetry, miscellaneous ~experimental~ wordy things) can be posted on your own character account as long as it is clearly marked in the title to indicate that it’s an AU bingo activity or canon flashback/word prompt/headcanon etc and everything should be tagged with #col22bingo, so that the mods can easily locate it and there is no confusion. Feel free also to track the tag!

Please also note in the TITLE (and separately in tags if you wish) which square the submission/creation is for. Some of them are going to be super obvious, but some may not be, and it’ll make things a lot easier for the mods to track if you title and tag them appropriately!

Some Theme Examples

As you can see, most of the categories are pretty self explanatory, but we thought a couple of them would benefit from a bit of clarification, so:

National Lampoon AU: Inspired by the classic Christmas film “National Lampoon’s Christmas Vacation” this tile is basically looking for anything involving family gatherings and the chaos/absurdity/disaster that often comes with it. First holiday shared with the crazy in-laws? Family members or exes who absolutely can’t be in the same room but are in the same room? Over crowded homes with cousins and uncles sleeping on couches and air-mattresses? Disastrous cooking or decorating or gathering fiascos? Basically, you name it, and we’ll be here for it—with popcorn. 

Home Alone AU: A Macaulay Culkin style adventure—feel free to explore the ‘getting left behind at the airport’ element, the ‘going ham on home intruders’ element, any creative variation of such scenarios, or all of the above! This might be an example of one that works well as a crossover idea!

Holiday “Spirits” AU: Get into the Holiday Spirit by breaking out those Holiday Spirits!! As in, any scenario involving getting tipsy (or downright sloshed) on eggnog or liqueur or wine (the list goes on and on.) This doesn’t have to be your character, of course, it can be any combination of scenarios, just something about celebratory drinks (or lack there of!) Reminder to please tag any triggers where it might be appropriate! 

Pantomime AU: A very British Christmas tradition of comedic, fantastical stage performances often based on well known children’s stories, with encouraged (and silly) interactions from the audience. If you’re not British, but you’ve ever been to a Rocky Horror performance, it might be a little bit like that. Read about this fabulous and fun tradition here. 

"The tree” AU: This one is a bit more Christmas specific, but any scenario involving getting a tree—whether it be buying a real one from a market, fetching one from the woods and bringing it home, putting up a fake one, decorating, arguing... and of course, if you’re looking for chaos, any fiascos that may come with any of these scenarios!

Closing Details

Just like last time, this is purely for fun and there is zero pressure to participate if it doesn’t tickle your fancy, but if you do want to, you can track your progress on the board located on the graphics blog here. (We will update as frequently as we can, but it may take up to a day or two for your results to appear!)

During the course of this challenge, we will post updates whenever someone achieves a line, (or if by some miracle, someone goes for a blackout!) There are no prizes, but there are definitely bragging rights. For the time being, the end date of this challenge is TBD, but it will likely last through January. It doesn’t feel particularly necessary to close these things super quickly, but we may at some point stop tracking the results, and we’ll let you know when that happens!

Dec 15, 2019 Minton's Playhouse is a jazz club and bar located on the first floor of the Cecil Hotel at 210 West 118th Street in Harlem and is a registered trademark of Housing and Services, Inc. a New York City. Bill Saxton Bio BILL SAXTON, hard bop tenor saxophonist, works hard to keep the soul of jazz alive. Born and raised in Harlem, Saxton attended school in New York before continuing his post-secondary education at New England Conservatory in Boston. There, he studied clarinet, composition, and arrangement. Saxton’s career in jazz has been alive since the 1960s. Since then, he’s collaborated with many jazz legends such as Ray Haynes, Jackie McLean, Nancy Wilson, The Duke Ellington Orchestra, Tito Puente and Mango Santa Maria to name a few. He also is an accomplished bandleader and over the span of ten years was joined by musicians such as Bobby Watson and Hilton Ruiz Saxton has toured all over the world playing his music; he’s been across Europe, to Japan, and across the islands in the Caribbean. Saxton has composed more than 80 pieces of music, according to his website. He has also traveled with the U.S. State Department to West Africa. In 2006, Saxton opened the speakeasy Bill’s Place, which is prided to be “New York’s only jazz speakeasy.” Located on West 133rd Street, this historic prohibition-era hotspot was an after-hours hang out for many celebrities such as Langston Hughes, Duke Ellington, Mom Mabley, and Fats Waller. This spot was also a place where William “the Lion” Smith would play piano and would also be graced by the appearance of a young, lesser-known Billie Holiday. Today, this speakeasy is helping continue the spirit of old, classic jazz. Some of Saxton’s accolades include receiving critical acclaim from several magazines and newspapers, having his life featured in the Harlem Jazz Museum and being inducted as a jazz legend at the Library of Music. A short documentary about his life called “Living Jazz with Bill Saxton” was made in 2012. Song 3: Blue Jeans || Self-Para || Flashback

Notes: Vanessa becomes enamored with a new genre of music and slowly finds herself falling for the lyrics or the person that comes to mind.

It had been a few weeks since Nessa’s grandmother, Stella Maldette had passed and the young girl had spent most of her evenings in her room, but there had been only one person to successfully coax her out of the room, even for a little while. She was grateful to that person, exchanging very weak smiles towards them. A few days later, she received a notification on her laptop that she had a gift on iTunes, when she opened it, her eyes watered, seeing the note that said, 

“It’s you, it’s you, it’s all for you, everything I do. With all the love, your nana. -S.M.” 

As much as Vanessa tried not to cry, tears spilled down her cheeks that her nana’s parting gift was the Born To Die album. It was a cruel irony, but she did her best to to wipe her tears as she began to play the songs. She had fallen in love with the melancholia of the singer’s voice, the sultry old school vibe was what really had her by her heartstrings, but all she could hear were the melodies, the strings, and the guitars on the first night. She decided to sleep on it, perhaps she was too distraught.

The next week, she made it her mission to go buy the actual CD to read the lyrics later that evening, which is exactly what she did. She swooned during the titular song, cried at Video Games, as it reminded her of her grandmother, but as the tears had subsided, song 3 struck her. She looked down at the lyrics and followed along, her eyes scanning the page as she nodded along. She could hear the raw emotion in Lana’s voice, as it shifted from enamored and starstruck to pleading, saddened with a hint of jealousy--and Vanessa may or may have not fallen asleep to the song on repeat. 

The following week was near Valentine’s Day and Vanessa had been in a mood. The one person that continued coming to mind was completely off limits. There was just no way in hell and so she had the album to commiserate with her. Except, song 3 continued to haunt her between shuffling and playing it in its numerical order. She finally conceded, opening the lyric book to read over the lyrics.

Nessa suddenly remember her heart stopping watching Lucian come into the room without a suit and tie on. It was a casual jeans and a t-shirt with a cigarette in between his lips. She envied that cigarette so much. He looked like the classical bad boy, he had the whole aura of it. She was in awe of it all, but she dropped her gaze to her feet before he noticed that she stared at him too long. She cursed herself for that. 

You were sorta punk rock, I grew up on hip-hop But you fit me better Than my favourite sweater, 

There was no surprise that their music tastes clashed and they often teased the other for it. That was just their thing. The one thing that Nessa did learn was that even though their music lied on opposite sides of the scale, they had similar messages. Lyrically and melody wise things were different but the message had always remained the same...as if it were fate of some sort. 

And I know that love is mean, And love hurts But I still remember That day we met in December, Oh, baby!

Vanessa was only 16, she had no idea what love was and if she did, it was not the kindest to her as she had to watch her best friend from afar. She had to convince herself that she and Lucian were only friends that there would be nothing more to come of it and it made her ache and break inside, but she had to come to terms with that. She had to come to terms that he was not the one and that later down the line, she’d find someone else. But, she couldn’t forget the way she looked at him before departing for Winter Break, their last hug before they reunited on the annual class trip, it was little things like that, that were still etched in her mind. His scent still sticking to her, his warmth still lingering on her skin. It ached so much. 

I will love you 'til the end of time I would wait a million years

Suddenly, the waterworks appeared at the chorus. Oh god, she was in love with him and so hopelessly so. As much as she tried to say that she was too young, too inexperienced, she was in love. It was more than a crush seeing as how the tears just spilled down her cheeks. She wanted to wait for him and hoped that he’d wait for her. Just 10 more months and hopefully, she could muster up the courage to say that she at least fancied him, downplay it a little until she was sure he felt the same way--but she’d wait forever and a day for him to love her.

She wiped her own tears away and continued following along to the song, but couldn’t help remembering how Lucian was--and continued being one of the most sought after boys at school. Everyone fawned over him, everyone feared him; they were enamored by his charm and sometimes, Nessa’s jealousy got the best of her. She’d lean in closer when they spoke, her gaze would stay on his the whole time. She just hoped anyone who did get with him knew that she loved him first--she thought she did, but she hoped anyone who had the grand opportunity, the grand privilege of having his heart, would love him endlessly.

Nessa couldn’t help but stand and sway along to the song, remembering every slow dance she had with him. She could remember feeling sparks in the air, her heart pounding against her chest, the shy glance, the shy smile--she wasn’t sure if he felt the same. All she could hope that he did, that he’d cherish every moment they had together as much as she did. Of course, now Vanessa found herself singing the chorus as she twirled around her room, as if she were a hopeless romantic princess, dreaming of her prince charming, dreamy-eyed and stuck in a rose-colored bubble. But she was pulled away from her reverie as she felt her phone buzz in her pocket. As she pulled out the phone, the name on the screen caused a smile to grace her lips.

review: School 2013 and how the drama so relatable for me.

gue tuh pengecut.gue selalu kabur ke tumblr buat posting apa yang ada di otak gue, yang ga mungkin orang lain (temen2 gue) tau. setidaknya gue lega aja udah nulis dan mosting di sosial media tanpa ada yang tau dan baca. lol. useless maybe, but it soothe the hell out of me so yeah why not?

jadi, mm, gue ga tau mau mulai darimana. yang jelas, sehubungan dengan banyaknya waktu nganggur yang sekarang lagi coba gue nikmati, gue akhirnya memutuskan untuk drama korea rally and i chose to watch School 2013. I know it’s a 4 years old ago drama tapi ya mau gimana lagi emang waktu dulu drama ini ngehype gue masi belom tau apa-apa , dan yah bahkan setelah 2 tahun nyimpen drama ini di leptop gue baru bisa nonton sekarang. like i told you, i have a lot of free time so when i finally bored with books i go watching instead.

dan apa yang gue tulis ini mungkin bakal berantakan alurnya, lompat2 maju mundur dan bakal sering oot, tapi biarlah toh no one will read this post except me so why so serious? cuma mumpung gue inget, gue mau berterimakasih sebanyak banyak nya sama temen gue , dia padahal cowok lho cuma somehow dia nyimpen drakor ini di leptopnya yang kemudian gue minta dia buat ngopas ke leptop gue and so how the file ended up on my local D.

dan sebagaimana seungri bigbang bilang untuk jangan lupa untuk berterimakasih sama diri sendiri, jadi gue juga berterimakasih kepada diri gue yang 2 tahun lalu meminta file drakor ini dan menyimpannya selama itu menuh2in local D. Gue juga ga tau alasan apa yang melatarbelakangi tindakan tersebut. Yang jelas, sebelumnya gue cuma tau kalo Jongsuk itu ganteng sumpah titik. dan gue juga tau Jongsuk malah dari I Hear Your Voice walaupun gue juga ga nonton drama itu. dan gue juga gatau track record School 2013 itu ngehype banget di dunia perdrama-an. Tapi setelah melakukan binge watching for 3 days in a row, dan gue sukkkaaaaaaa sama drama itu, jadi ya thanks for myself.

School 2013 atau versi Hangeulnya 학교2013 . Dari asianwiki gue liat tanggal rilis drama ini dari sejak  December 3, 2012 - January 28, 2013. Sama kek drama korea lainnya, drama ini tayang selama 16 episode plus bonus special episod yang juga gue tonton. Drama ini mengisahkan tentang perjuangan yang dilalui kelas 2-2 yang berisikan  35 anak bermasalah di SMA Seungri. Cerita dimulai saat kenaikan semester 2 dan wali kelas yang lama milih mundur karena ga kuat menghadapi kenakalan kelas tersebut, lantas ditugaskanlah 2 wali kelas sekaligus dan selain itu juga ada perubahan Ketua dan Wakil Ketua Kelas karena Ketua Kelas yang lama juga give up memegang peran tersebut. Good plot, right? Dan ya bisa ditebak, karena fokus utama dari drama ini adalah tentang kelas itu, jadi mulai dari episode 1 sampe 16 isinya memang menceritakan masalah-masalah yang bergantian menimpa kelas tersebut.  Kenapa bergantian? Karena emang bergantian aja biang keroknya, penyebabnya, siapa yang jadi ‘dewi penyelamat’, hukumannya, dan lain sebagainya. Jadi siklus drama itu muter disitu-situ aja. sehingga quote tiada hari tanpa masalah itu pas banget buat kondisi kelas itu. 

Karena setiap klimaks dari semua masalah itu munculnya di akhir, bikin gue penasaran dan akhirnya terkeluarlah momen ONE MORE EPISODE sampe akhirnya gue binge watching selama 3 hari. 16 jam. habis dalam 3 hari. Di hari pertama gue nonton 4 jam full. Hari kedua, which is kemaren, gue nonton dari jam 10 malem sampe jam 4 subuh. Dan hari ini sisa episode yang ada gue selesaikan dari sejak jam 11 siang sampe 3 sore. Ya mungkin alasan yang sama yang bikin drama ini sukses menjaga suspense penonton buat terus ngikutin jalan cerita sampe akhir. Good job, director-nim !

Yang bikin gue suka dari drama ini, mereka ngasih ‘jatah porsi’ yang cukup fair buat semua pemainnya. Sehingga meskipun masalah utamanya terletak pada  Go Nam Soon, Heung Soo, Jung Ho, Lee Yi Kyung, Ji Hoon, tapi penonton ga dibikin bosen karena di sela-sela masalah mereka, muncul masalah lain dari siswa lain yang natural dan ga terlihat dipaksakan. Dan bagaimana dari satu masalah memunculkan masalah lain tuh aluuuuus banget alurnya karena memang saling berhubungan tapi juga ga berkaitan ( eh? hah? maksudnya?) . Keren pokoknya tapi  bikin sebel juga karena “Duuuh satu kelar malah muncul yang baru”.  hihihi mohon sabar ya itu semua hanya ujian lol. Dan yaitu tadi, semuanya kebagian sama rata. Sama-sama masuk ruang konseling. Mulai dari 5 bad boys di kelas, terus Ha Kyung, Kang Joo, Na Ri, Shin Hye, Kyung Min, Eun Hye, Min-Ki, Young Woo semua punya role jadi troublemaker. 

Dan terus bonus dari drama ini adalah fakta bahwa sekelas isi 35 anak yang cowok bening-bening yang cewek cantik-cantik. Bikin betah mata. Tapi tetep lah Jongsuk oppa is the best! Woobin sih kalah. Haha.

School 2013 juga berakhir happy ending dan gue yakin meski ada beberapa part yang gantung, gue yakin everyone who watched it end up satisfied by how the story ended.

Buat gue pribadi, ada part yang itu berhasil gue tebak dengan bener (part-nya Min Ki) dan ada juga yang gue salah tebak. 

Yang gue total ngaco adalah dari awal gue nebak ada hubungan kisah cinta segitiga antara Guru Kang, Ha Kyung sama Nam Soon. Gue pikir si Guru Kang sama Nam Soon itu kaka beradek tapi pura-pura ga kenal. Guru Kang ceritanya ganti nama depan, terus pernah berbuat mesum sama Ha Kyung jadi yang satunya dipecat jadi guru yang satunya di DO dari sekolah. Si Nam Soon aslinya suka sama Ha Kyung tapi dia ngalah. Mwahahaha otak gue drama bener yes? Efek nonton reply 1997 XD Tapi anehnya sampe ending drama ini ga dijelasin kenapa mereka bertiga pura-pura saling ga kenal. Dan selain itu, lucunya adalah, mungkin ini satu-satunya drama yang gue tonton yang sama sekali ga ada kisah percintaan dan ga ada adegan ciuman sama sekali. Kalopun ada, itu ambigu banget ( antara ha Kyung - Nam Soon? atau Ha Kyung - Heung Soo? ) dan yang paling bikin senyumsenyum malah  kisah percintaan Nam Soon dan Heung Soo jajajajajaja ( buat penonton pervert sih ini kisah percintaan terromantis dalam drama School 2013 dan gue ngarepin mereka end up kawin dan life happily ever after lol ) tapi asli deh bahkan tanpa ada bumbu percintaan dan kissing, drama ini bisa sekeren itu. Gue jadi mikir, kalo ditambahin kisah cinta segitiga kek yang gue tebak itu, atau bahkan cinta segitiga antara Ha Kyung - Nam Soon - Heung Soo dan cinta antar guru Kang-Ju , kira-kira bakal jadi lebih bagus atau malah menghancurkan drama ini ya ?? Tapi biarlah drama ini bener-bener bebas dari begituan . Another gomawoyo director-nim :)

Dan selain faktor Jongsuk main, kisah ceritanya ga maksa, alurnya alus, pembagian porsi pemain yang cukup adil, no kissing or love part, alesan lain kenapa gue menikmati sekali 3 hari binge watching adalah keseluruhan cerita bikin gue flashback sama masa-masa sekolah gue. Like the title from this post, School 2013 itu relate banget sama cerita gue jaman SMA dulu.

Dan, paragraf selanjutnya dari tulisan ini adalah pembuktian gue kalo beberapa cerita / karakter di School 2013 sama persis kejadian kayak kelas gue ..

Pas SMA, Gue sekolah di sekolah kejuruan dengan jurusan  Multimedia. Untuk tahun itu, pertama kalinya diujicobakan pembagian kelas dimana siswanya dipilih berdasarkan metode baru hasil eksperimen sang Kaprodi MM, yaitu menggolongkan siswa berdasarkan IQ. jadi kelas gue, MM1 , berisikan 36 siswa ber IQ tertinggi dari rentang  131 - 110, dan sisanya masuk ke MM 2 dan MM 3. Pas ospek, para siswa udah tau kalo mereka masuk ke kelas mana tapi pas ospek semua siswa di campur baur. Cuma yang bikin kesel, dari sejak ospek itu para guru udah mulai menggadang-gadang kelas MM1 kelas unggulan. Paska ospek, butuh waktu 1 semester sampe akhirnya gue bisa beradaptasi sama anak-anak dikelas MM1. Dan saat itu juga mulai muncul benih perseteruan antara kelas Unggulan dan non unggulan karena gap yang tercipta dari embel-embel Unggulan itu.

6 bulan berlalu gitu aja tanpa ada kejadian aneh-aneh selain dari protes kita yang mulai begah denger statement ‘kelas unggulan’. Dan begitu naik ke semester 2, wali kelas gue guru Bahasa Inggris yang gue sayangi karena beliau lemah lembut dan baik, ngambil cuti hamil. Di hari terakhir itu juga, akhirnya diambil keputusan kalo Ketua sama Wakil Kelas harus diganti. Karena kebetulan banget temen gue si Bxxx yang jadi ketuakelas udah mulai bandel karena kena pengaruh buruk kakakelas. Jadi si Bxxx yang di awal kita harapkan jadi bintang kelas, malah mulai jarang di kelas. Sementara si wakil, yang kecil-kecil  udah kek petasan saking hobi show off, mulai dibenci sama anak-anak sekelas. Tau kedua orang ini gabisa kerjasama, jadilah dipilih temen gue sebagai ketua dan gue wakilnya. DAn bisa dibilang, kita berdua kebalikan banget bagai bumi dan langit. Nyokap gue bilang kalo temen gue itu, yang akhirnya dapet julukan Papa-nya anak-anak, adalah contoh nyata menantu lelaki idaman para mertua. Mungkin Papa ga kaya dan ga ganteng, tapi dia punya kualitas otak dan kepribadian tiada dua. Sementara gue? Ah sudahlah masa’ gue buka aib diri sendiri.

Cuma mungkin ya itu tadi sih, kalo sama-sama perfectnya atau sama-sama blangsaknya keknya ga mungkin bisa kerjasama dengan baik, bisa dibilang perbedaan bumi dan langit antara kita berdua bikin kita somehow sukses memegang peran sebagai ketua dan wakil sampe kita lulus. 

Dan masalah guru pengganti si wali kelas yang cuti hamil pun sekolah bagai asal comot guru. Guru pengganti emang guru senior, tapi beliau dipilih cuma karena beliau juga guru Bahasa Inggris. Tapi sayang, beliau ga cukup amanah sehingga selama sisa semster itu yang awalnya gue semangat mau belajar Bahasa Inggris malah akhirnya kudu otodidak lagi.

See? Perubahan wali kelas dan Ketua-Wakil adalah kesamaan nomer 1 antara gue dan drama School 2013. Persamaan kedua adalah perbedaan bumi langit antara Ketua dan Wakil. Cuma bedanya, di School 2013 yang blangsak malah ketuanya. Lol.

Persamaan lainnya gue temukan saat ada dialog antara Guru Jung sama Guru Kang. Guru Jung bilang, impian dia cuma mau liat anak didiknya naik kelas 3 dan lulus semua tanpa ada satupun yang tertinggal. Jujur, satu hal itu adalah nadzar yang gue pegang mati-matian saat gue tau gue dipilih jadi Wakil. Gue berpegangan sama Hukum Hirchoff 1 dimana Kita daftar 36, keterima 36, ospek 36 jadi wajib hukumnya untuk wisuda ber 36. For 2.5 years, I did my best to make it happen. Karena banyak kelas yang siswanya mulai berguguran, ntah karena DO masalah keluarga, atau masalah pribadi kek bertengkar bahkan hamil duluan. I wont let that happen in my class. Jadi itu adalah persamaan ketiga antara gue dan Guru Jung.

Dan persamaan keempat adalah , meskipun gue Wakil, karena Papa terlalu acuh untuk memulai dan mengakhiri kelas, jadi bagian Memberi Salam dan Doa bersama di setiap pagi mulai kelas dan siang bubaran kelas itu juga jadi bagian gue. I feel it, Nam Soon oppa.

 Oh ya, persamaan yang kelima. Siapapun deh itu yang jadi Ketua Kelas / jubir kelas, pasti tersiksa banget kalo lgi harus ngasih pengumuman di depan kelas pas kelas lagi rame. Pertama bisa aja ngomongnya masih lembut , “ Guys ... ” , tapi ga ngefek. Nadanya naik 1 oktaf, masih dicuekin. Mulai teriak kecil sambil mukul meja pake telapak tangan, masih dikacangin, sampe akhirnya ntah gue harus kayak guru Jung yang banting buku sambil teriak bak musisi rock atau ada salah satu anak yang ‘berhasil’ bikin suasana diem kayak Heung Soo atau Min Ki,  baru deh kita bisa ngomong. Meskipun dengan sebegitu sulitnya perjuangan buat bisa didengerin, toh baru aja ngomong 1 kata, kelas langsung ricuh lagi.

Adegan kayak2 gitu saban muncul di School 2013 bikin gue ketawa ngakak ngebayangin dulu gue juga gitu. Hayati lelah ....

Persamaan yang lebih general adalah, meskipun kelas kita unggulan, yang ada malah plot twist banget. Kaprodi gue ga sadar, kalo efek yang diharapkan dengan menempatkan 36 anak dengan IQ tinggi itu malah bikin kelas jadi chaos. Egois. Masing-masing siswa merasa dirinya paling bener. Jadi bikin kita kurang respect sama orang lain, ntah temen sendiri atau guru sendiri. Praktis, kelas kita jadi troublemaker. bergantian masalah menimpa, masalah internal sesama temen sekelas, sama guru sendiri, sampe eksternal yang melibatkan anak kelas lain dan guru lain. Yang paling parah kejadian pas kelas 2 dimana kelas gue against satu guruh senior killer. Merasa guru tersebut melakukan tindak kekerasan, di saat temen-teme yang lain membeku ketakutan di meja masing2 menjadi saksi peristiwa horor itu, gue pun milih keluar kelas buat nyari pertolongan ke ruang TU dan bilang kalo guru tersebut mau ninju temen-temen gue. Kalo dipikir-pikir, beberapa pekan paska kejadian itu emang drama banget. Karena seperti kelas 2-2, kejadian itu menambah daftar panjang musuh kelas gue dari golongan guru. Udah ga terhitung berapa banyak guru yang benci sama kelas kita dan vice versa.

dan kondisi keluarga yang mostly berasal dari keluarga broken home, orangtua singleparent, keluarga ekonomi menengah kebawah jadi persamaan ketujuh. Berbeda dari kelas MM 2, MM 3 yang diisi sama anak-anak orang kaya bermotor berlaptop, kelas gue boro-boro punya leptop ,punya PC aja banyak yang ga punya. Kalopun ada, juga cuma segelintir. 

Kondisi serupa lainnya tampak pada Kondisi dikelas. Ada yang kalo lagi dijelasin guru malah diem-diem tidur atau diem-diem baca komik. Paling heboh kalo jam  kosong, karena bisa main kartu, main gitar, make-up-an, ngebahas majalah fashion, HP-an ngegame atau dengerin lagu atau selfie2, dlsb. Terus di kelas gue juga ada pembagian geng, terutama yang cewek. ada geng Keluarga Cendana yang berisi cewek pinter ambisius, Keluarga Sakinah  berisi cewek-cewek pendiem, sama Keluarga Bencana yang ga lain adalah geng gue paling heboh beranggotakan 11 orang, sama geng cowok-cowok. Kalo keadaan lagi ga panas sih tiga keluarga ini ama yang cowok-cowok bisa bhinneka tunggal ika. Tapi kalo lagi panas, yah gampang aja satu kata bisa nyulut perang setara Baratayuda. Bentuk perangnya? Gosip sana sini. backstab sana sini. Makanya, pas nonton School 2013. ngeliat kelas 2-2 gampang banget mengalami perpecahan karena efek saling gosip ini bikin  gue berasa kayak time travel ke kelas gue jaman dulu. 

Oh ya, di School 2013 juga ada kan adegan sirik-sirikan nilai ujian. Mwahahaha itu sih makanan sehari-hari kelas gue. Salah satu musim ‘tegang’ adalah pas pembagian raport. Tanduk setan sebagian anak dikelas diam-diam muncul hanya karena persaingan nilai siapa paling baik. 

Persamaan ke-sepuluh. Sama kayak siswa kelas 2-2 yang buyar sekolah gabisa langsung pulang, kelas gue juga jadi satu-satunya kelas yang ga langsung pulang abis bel bunyi. Cuma letak bedanya, kalo semua murid di School2013 merasa terpaksa, kalo gue dulu sukarela. Yup, kita sekelas betah banget stay di sekolah sampe maghrib. Karena kita butuh lab komputer, secara banyak dari kita yang ga punya laptop/PC canggih. Di lab juga kita suka ngerjain tugas bareng, minta ajarin Papa sekiranya ada pelajaran yang masih ga paham, nonton film bareng pake proyektor di lab, karokean, ngegames, dlsb. Hal ini membuat adanya persamaan selanjutnya. Bahwa kelas gue punya 2 sosok serupa kayak Guru Jung Guru Kang yang selama 3 tahun berjasa banget bikin kita semua sampe kayak gini .

Dua guru itu, satunya pernah jadi walikelas saat kelas 2, tapi mereka berdua adalah guru MM. Karena tau murid-muridnya butuh lab sampe maghrib, beliau rela ga langsung pulang karena nungguin kita sampe selesai. Sampe suatu hari , pas kita lagi mendekati ujian dan butuh banget begadang di lab,  si Bapak Axxxxx dapet telepon urgent . Aslinya hari itu emang jadwalnya beliau ‘ngelembur’ nungguin kita, tp karena telepon urgent itu, beliau ampe merasa berdosa banget sama kita pas ngasitau dia harus pulang jadi lab harus dikunci. 

Kedua guru ini juga sering banget nyelametin kelas gue dari masalah yang terjadi melibatkan guru / kelas lain. terkait kita sering bolos ke lab, dituduh terlalu sering make lab sampe biaya listrik sekolah membengkak, itu diback-up sama guru-guru MM ini. Pokoknya, seperti Guru Jung dan Guru kang, Mereka sayang banget sama kita, dan vice versa juga  kita patuhnya cuma sama guru MM.

Persamaan ke-sebelas. Dulu pernah ketua kelas gue, si Papa, pas lagi pertama kali jamannya dia punya HP kayak lagi kenalan sama cewek gitulah. Dia jadi berubah, nakal, bolos, maenan HP doang, dan saat itu gue ngerasain banget kayak si Ha Kyung, gara-gara ketua kelas kayak Nam Soon / Papa gitu, gue jadi yang sulit . Meskipun aslinya emang jobdesc gue sama Papa bak reverse order sih.

Papa, lebih fokus sama internal kelas. Masalah pelajaran atau pribadi, anak-anak nanya atau curhatnya ke Papa. Sementara gue sebagai Wakil, lebih kebagian dirty work. Karena urusan gue lebih ke pihak eksternal. Makanya setiap panggilan ketua kelas, gue yang pergi ke ruang rapat/ruang guru. Jadi yang pasang badan dan maju duluan kalo lagi ada masalah, kudu gue sampe gue kemudian kena cap tukang bikin onarnya kelas. 

Di sisi inilah gue sering suka merasa kalo gue korban underated. Karena kredit larinya lebih sering ke Papa, sehingga perjuangan yang gue lakukan sering ga dianggep sama anak-anak. I received no thanks for my effort back then. Padahal kalo dipikir, karena dulu sistemnya moving class, somehow kelas gue sering banget ga kebagian ruang. Dan itu langsung jadi urusan gue, keliling sekolah ujung ke ujung cuma buat nyari kelas kosong. Belum kalo urusan mau ujian, gue juga yang bolak balik ke ruang guru nanya kisi-kisi, sementara saban semester baru juga jadi tanggungjawab gue ngambil buku-buku di ruang guru buat dibagiin ke kelas, dan belum kalo ada masalah ini itu, ya gue juga yang kudu tanggung jawab. 

Yang paling parah, dan masih termasuk persamaan juga,  dulu pas di akhir2 kelas 3 ada 3 temen gue dikelas yang terlibat perkelahian sampe ngerusak keran air wudhu, dan gue mati-matian ngebantuin salah satu temen gue yang dalam kasus itu sebenernya cuma korban tak bersalah buat survive melalui hukuman yang dikasih pihak sekolah. Selama kena sanksi ‘dirumahkan’ 2 minggu, gue memastikan kalo setiap ulangan, ada yang gantian bantuin ngerjain lembar OJK anak itu, selain itu ada hukuman mengarang beberapa lembar kertas folio juga gue bantuin, sampe akhirnya kelar hukuman, temen gue ini jadi males sekolah karena merasa trauma didzalimi. Gue saat itu mau ga mau ngelakuin berbagai cara, karena gila aja udah beberapa bulan sebelum kelulusan sampe ada kasus kayak gini. resiko anak ini di drop out atau ga naik kelas bukan suatu yang bisa gue terima gitu aja. Jadilah gue kudu ngingetin anak ini untuk selalu masuk sekolah sampe hari terakhir masa aktif pembelajaran kelas 3.

Alhamdulillah, sama kayak ending School 2013 dimana seluruh siswa 2-2 naik kelas 3, gue pun juga berhasil melaksanakan nadzar Hukum Kirchoff 1 gue. 36 anak sukses lulus dan wisuda semua, terlepas dari segala masalah yang pernah kita lalui.

Kakak gue, tau gue begadang nonton drama jaman baheula nanya ke gue kenapa gue ga nonton Goblin aja . Ya gue jawab, gue aslinya ga begitu suka cerita yang model gitu. Yang ga masuk akal gitu lah. Ya gue tau, namanya drama juga semuanya ga masuk akal. Tapi setidaknya selama jalan cerita masih normal macam School 2013, kan masih mungkin aja kejadian in real life. Tapi kalo model Goblin? Ya kan ga mungkin kejadian. Makanya berasanya tuh kayak buang-buang waktu nonton sesuatu yang ceritanya kayak gitu. Sementara 3 hari nonton School 2013 bikin gue jadi refleksi sama kehidupan pas SMA dulu. Bullying ya ada, ngerokok diem-diem ya ada, persaingan ya ada, guru baik guru jahat, sistem sekolah ngehek, ketidakadilan, tindak kriminal yang ditayangin di School 2013 sukses menjadi resemblance kehidupan SMA gue.  Jadi gue sekali lagi, seneng nonton School 2013. Nangis nya dapet, ketawanya iya, bikin gue sadar dan khilaf juga iya, dan pasti bikin gue pervert liat bromancenya Jongsuk-Woobin juga iya. Kayak gini nih

El Festival CortoCircuito en línea: la ventana a otras culturas a través del cine

NUEVA YORK  - No cabe duda que cualquier expresión artística es un puente para escuchar las historias desde otro punto de vista, para aprender de otras culturas, para enriquecer el alma y para despertar los sentidos de diferentes maneras. La ciudad de Nueva York siempre se ha caracterizado por esa riqueza cultural donde los festivales, la danza, el cine, la música, el arte y la diversidad hacen que cada uno de los eventos en la Gran Manzana sean una maga de oportunidades para romper barreras. Debido a la pandemia muchos de esos eventos han tenido que cancelarse o posponerse; sin embargo, la gran mayoría, como CortoCircuito, un festival gratuito que muestra cortos de España, latinoamérica o de latinos en los Estados unidos,  traen la experiencia en línea. CortoCircuito estará desde el 4 de junio hasta el 11 de junio trayendo una variedad de cortos con un programa para enriquecer y aprender sobre la creatividad de artistas latinoamericanos y las historias de estos países llenos de cultura. El programa viene en colaboración del Instituto Cervantes en Nueva York. En el programa el público encontrarán cortometrajes como  Así son las Cosas (Argentina) de Juan Pablo Zaramella. El tema, una producción de Ángel Arce "Pututi" y la composición del propio productor en conjunto con los dos cantantes, es un reggaetón sensual, interpretado de manera magistral por estos dos talentosos jóvenes.
