Why Household Paper Products Are Essential for a Clean and Sustainable Home
When it comes to maintaining a clean and efficient household, one category of products that often gets overlooked are Household paper products. From everyday paper towels to toilet paper bulk purchases, these essential items are at the heart of creating a smooth-running home. Not only do they make daily tasks easier, but choosing the right products can also have a significant impact on your budget and the environment.
Tumblr media
In many households, paper towels are indispensable. Whether it's wiping down kitchen surfaces, cleaning spills, or handling the messes that come with daily life, paper towels offer convenience and practicality. But while these products are functional, it's important to consider the types of materials you're using. Opting for eco-friendly paper products ensures that you're not only choosing convenience but also making a more sustainable choice for the environment. Eco-friendly options are made from recycled fibers or renewable resources, reducing waste and supporting a greener planet.
Tumblr media
Another essential item that often runs out quickly is toilet paper bulk. Buying in bulk not only saves you money but also ensures you're always prepared for whatever life throws your way. Large families or households with high traffic benefit from purchasing toilet paper bulk, as it helps avoid frequent trips to the store. It's worth investing in high-quality paper products for businesses if you're running a larger operation or need commercial-grade supplies. These products offer superior durability, ensuring fewer replacements and a more comfortable experience for all.
Tumblr media
Alongside toilet paper and paper towels, paper napkins are a must-have for any home. Whether it's for a casual meal, a holiday gathering, or a simple snack, paper napkins are incredibly versatile. And just like other paper products, they come in a range of options, from everyday-use napkins to those designed for special occasions. For those conscious about their environmental footprint, there are many brands offering eco-friendly paper napkins, which are biodegradable and compostable, helping reduce waste.
Tumblr media
Disposable paper products are often viewed as convenient but wasteful. However, choosing biodegradable or recyclable options can make a significant difference. Many households and businesses now rely on disposable products like paper plates, cups, and towels for convenience. By selecting products made from sustainable sources, these items can be disposed of without contributing to long-lasting environmental harm.
Tumblr media
For businesses, commercial paper supplies are just as essential as they are at home. Paper rolls for offices and other commercial spaces help maintain cleanliness and hygiene, often at a larger scale. Whether you're running a restaurant, office, or school, having the right commercial paper products is crucial. Not only do these products ensure a sanitary environment, but they also reflect the standards of cleanliness that your business upholds. High-quality paper rolls for offices and commercial areas are durable and economical, reducing waste and maintaining a clean atmosphere throughout the workday.
Tumblr media
By selecting the right paper products Auckland has to offer, you can meet both personal and environmental goals. With so many options available, there's no reason not to choose sustainable, durable, and high-quality paper items for every part of your home or business.

Creator Spotlight: @chaaistheanswer
Hi everyone! I am Clara, but you can also call me chaa! I am a digital artist based in Auckland, New Zealand, with a bachelor’s degree in Creative Media Production. After graduating from uni, I moved out to pursue my art career and I’ve been a freelance digital artist ever since. I love concept art, especially character design! Creating characters influenced by my love for fantasy is what I live for. Thank you for stopping by, and I hope you enjoyed my art! And thank you, Tumblr, for this opportunity!
Check out our interview with Clara below!
Did you originally have a background in art? If not, how did you start?
I specialized in art in high school and have a bachelor’s degree in Creative Media Production from Massey University with an animation pathway. For our thesis film, which I worked on with several of my classmates, I took on the role of producer, art director, and concept artist. Our short film was featured in the Wellington Film Festival Terror-Fi in 2020. After graduating, I went on to become a freelance artist, but my goal is to work for the gaming industry as a character concept artist. Ever since I first picked up a pencil, I knew I wanted to become an artist!
Have you ever had an art block? If so, how did you overcome it?
Art block is quite common among artists, and unfortunately, I too have fallen prey to the affliction. I have several ways of overcoming art block: watching movies, playing games, reading, or going out for a drive with my sister. These are just a few things I love to do to help keep my creative juices flowing!
What is one habit you find yourself doing a lot as an artist?
I tend to obsessively research about completely unrelated topics while I draw. I find learning new things helps improve my concept designs, especially in creating backgrounds for my characters.
Over the years as an artist, what were your biggest inspirations behind your creativity?
Video games and anime were my biggest inspirations! Anything with a captivating story that’ll send me to the edge of my seat, and loveable characters. I’m particularly drawn to high and dark fantasy.
How has technology changed the way you approach your work?
Technology has made a huge impact on us artists over the last few years. I used to draw a lot on paper, but since getting a tablet, I find myself searching for the undo and redo buttons and even trying to zoom constantly while I draw on paper. I used to only draw for myself as well, but after posting my art online, I now have an audience to whom I can share my art. Because of this, I am able to earn a living doing what I love by creating illustrations for clients.
What is a recent creative project that you are proud of?
I am very proud of this recent commission I’ve done for a client! Fortunately, the piece turned out exactly how I wanted it to look, and my client was very happy with the result. I am also in the process of working on a Webtoon, which is going as smoothly as I hoped it would be before its re-release!
What advice would you give to younger you about making art that's personal or truthful to your own experiences?
The best advice I would give my younger self is to never hold back! Try not to think about the negatives of creating and sharing art that you believe in. Embrace vulnerability, and don’t be afraid to dig deep into your own emotions and experiences. Always explore, and don’t limit yourself to your own bubble. And most important of all, stay true to yourself! Stay true to your values and beliefs, and never compromise your own authenticity for the sake of pleasing others. Your art is a reflection of you as a person.
Who on Tumblr inspires you and why?
@yuumei-art has been an inspiration to me since my early Deviantart days. I admire how she uses her skills to focus on environmentalism and cyber activism. @nipuni is another inspiration of mine. I found her when I was in the process of recovering from Dragon Age Solavellan hell. I admire how she manages to capture faces well while also sticking to her style. Her paintings are so beautiful and very pleasing to my eyes!
Thanks for stopping by, Clara! If you haven't seen her Meet the Artist piece, be sure to check it out here. For more of Clara's work, follow her Tumblr, @chaaistheanswer!

ARDN632 Assignment 2 "Image Doing" Ashleigh Danby
Final Composite Images
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Statement
My concept for my 3 piece composite image series was to show the act of reading stories throughout different stages in life. I wanted to explore how different age groups tend to read books and eventually came to the conclusion that retired people - who have more free time - tend to have their “spot” that they perch in for the day with their book (I also found it interesting out of the 3 age groups I talked to, the older generation was more likely to have a kindle!). Middle-aged people usually use reading to unwind from their day and generally only read at nighttime (or when they’re on holiday). The younger generation - minus actual children - will read during their lunch breaks or when they’re out and about doing their chores (I found they are also more likely to listen to audiobooks and read physical books). Originally I also wanted to include a 4th image of a child reading but as it was I was already stacking up the number of photoshoots I needed to do, so this idea slowly got tossed out of the window.
The context for my composite image series started on a training day at work (I work with young children) where we discussed the importance of reading and telling stories and that “words matter”. This then got me thinking about the fact that young children don’t have the longest attention span for long books, but that all changes as we age and we learn to appreciate the stories more… and as time went on my idea started fleshing out! I was also inspired by a photographer/artist on Instagram: Natalia Seth (@escapingyouth) as I had seen a photograph of her at a library with an open book and lots of other books flying around her. This is where I gained the thought of having the ‘reader’ on my composite image as well as the ‘storybook’ scene. And, finally, by looking at Karen Jerzyk’s astronaut series I decided that my composite image series would all have the same underlying elements/theme. I was stuck thinking that my composite image series had to be a 3-part story with a beginning/middle/end. Mine is a 3-part story but in a less story-telling way.
I won’t get into too much detail, but I did want to specifically highlight my use of photographing paper. In my blog, I mentioned that when I first got my images into Photoshop I was having a hard time figuring out how to bridge the ‘reader’ scene with the ‘storybook’ scene. At first, I wanted to draw inspiration from Netflix’s ‘Heartstopper’ visuals (example on my blog) but I couldn’t quite figure out how to make this work with my content, so I started brainstorming different ideas like text… which led me to paper… which led me to themed paper and finally I had the perfect way to bridge the 2 scenes in the composite image - but also a similar aspect for all 3 composite images which would go lovely with my research about Karen Jerzyk.
Otherwise, I used my Canon DSLR to take all of my images and relied HEAVILY on props, models and locations. I used my Granny Lynne, her Kindle and living room and the Auckland War Memorial for my first image. For the second I used my mother, a random book from the shelf and her room, as well as a photo of Bethells Beach AND a photo of my brother and his girlfriend (Jack and Jess). For my last image, I used my cousin, another random book, another shot of Bethells Beach and the local laundromat. I will be forever grateful to my models for putting up with me and the many local spots near me that allowed me to get my scene shots. For post-production, I used Lightroom to remove all the noise from my images and then Photoshop to compile my composite images.
My favourite image from this little series would be Image 2 - mainly because I am a sucker for a good romance. But this image had all these pieces to it that just sparked my imagination. Originally, when I took the photos of Jack and Jess, I told them that it was going to be a silhouette so it wasn’t that serious. But, the more I played around with the image, the more I knew I wanted to do something more with it. I think having Jess fading away next to a solid Jack is beautiful storytelling and even though it was almost a candid picture when I took it, it feels perfect.
Another decision that I made that probably wasn’t for the better this time was adding a boat to Image 3. I go into more detail in my blog but basically: I ran out of time and didn’t have the resources to be able to take a photograph of a boat to put on the water in this image. I was (and probably still am) disappointed because the boat would have elevated the storytelling in this photograph to a whole other level.
To end on a more positive note, Image 1’s story was inspired by my Granny while I interviewed her: she told me she likes reading war stories and survival stories, so I thought I would bring that to life for her.

Lastly, copy and paste the email stated in the newsletter at our (NZ) state broadcasters TNZ and RNZ.
Phil O’Sullivan Head of News and Current Affairs Television New Zealand [email protected]
Mark Stevens Chief News Officer Radio New Zealand [email protected]
Kia ora Mr O’Sullivan and Mr Stevens, As supposed news and current affairs for our state media outlets which should set the highest standards of journalism, please explain why your news is so Eurocentric, favouring Israel and sidelining Palestinians. You both use almost exclusively news from three European news agencies - AP, Reuters and the BBC - or from major US or UK based newspapers such as the Telegraph, the Times, the Washington Post or the New York Times. This reporting centres on Israeli narratives, Israeli reasoning, Israeli explanations and Israeli justifications for what they are doing to Palestinians. Israeli spokespeople are front and centre and quoted extensively and directly. Palestinian voices, when they are covered, are usually at the margins. On TV in particular Palestinians are most often portrayed as the incoherent victims of overwhelming grief. It's inevitable that when it comes to setting the agenda for how we perceive what’s going on in Palestine, Israeli versions of the “truth”, which are dominated by lies, are allowed to dominate. The last seven months is riddled with examples. Just two days after the October 7th attack on Israel, pro-Palestinian protestors were accused of chanting “Gas the Jews” outside the Sydney Opera House. The story was carried around the world through mainstream media as a nasty anti-semitic slur on Palestinians and their supporters. Four months later, after an intensive investigation New South Wales police concluded it never happened. The words were never chanted. However the Radio New Zealand website today still carries a Reuters report saying “A rally outside the Sydney Opera House two days after the Hamas attack had ignited heated debate after a small group were filmed chanting "Gas the Jews". Even if RNZ did the right thing and removed the report now the old adage is true: “A lie is halfway around the world before the truth has got its trousers on”. Despite reporting the pro-Israel lie you Four months later and the police report is not news but the damage has been done. Numerous other examples can be found in your reporting where Israeli lies are reported but the debunking of those lies is buried. The 40 beheaded babies, UNRWA staff involved in the Hamas-led attack of October 7th and many more examples of Israeli propaganda which were lapped up by western media, including RNZ and TVNZ, stand as testament to the failure of RNZ and TVNZ to report accurately and without bias to New Zealanders. TVNZ has been particularly appalling with the dreadful Q and A interview with the Israeli ambassador and the almost as bad interview with the Palestinian Authority representative where the journalist pushed, not once, not twice but three times a blatant lie to smear the Palestinian resistance. Just to be clear, Hamas has the same policy as New Zealand, the US and most of the world – support for a two-state solution based on 1967 borders. Putting Israeli lies in the mouth of a New Zealand journalist makes them no less odious. I’m looking forward to your response. (your name)

The 2016 Auckland Unitary Plan (AUP) upzoned 3/4 of the city’s residential land to legalize townhouses, terraced homes, or multi-story apartments in areas that previously only allowed detached single-family homes, helping to reverse decades of successive downzonings that had occurred as recently as 2005. This makes Auckland perhaps the largest real-life experiment of what broad-based upzoning can achieve in an expensive, supply-constrained city—and in the 7 years since the implementation of the AUP, residential construction has skyrocketed. The total number of housing permits issued smashed previous records, while permits for the multi-unit attached housing projects legalized in the AUP went from only a small percentage of overall construction activity to the city’s dominant source of new housing.
In fact, upzonings in Auckland and elsewhere in New Zealand have set off a massive construction boom throughout the entire archipelago. In 2023, New Zealand (population: 5.2M) permitted 37k housing units, more than the San Francisco and Los Angeles metro areas combined (population: 17.3M). Auckland, a city of only 1.7M, permitted 15k units last year—while preliminary data shows the 5 boroughs of New York City (population: 8.3M) permitted a meager 9.2k units by comparison. In total, New Zealand permitted 9.7 new housing units per 1000 residents in 2022, a 45-year-high that was nearly double the rates seen in the US.
So over the last decade-plus, what has been the economic effect of these upzonings in Auckland and other parts of New Zealand? The best evidence comes from a series of academic papers by Professor Ryan Greenaway-McGrevy at the University of Auckland and comprehensive data tracking done by Matthew Maltman at Australia’s E61 Institute. Despite some early back-and-forth academic quibbles, the evidence is overwhelmingly clear that upzonings have significantly increased housing production—the AUP is estimated to have created more than 43k extra housing units from 2016-2022, while the Lower Hutt upzonings increased total Wellington region housing starts by 12-17%. That, in turn, has significantly improved housing affordability—rent-to-income ratios in Auckland have significantly declined even as they have steadily risen elsewhere in New Zealand.
Tumblr media
The AUP also represents an instructive case study for the modern housing discourse that pits upzoning as a market-based solution in opposition to direct government action like rent control or public housing. New Zealand’s experience shows the two approaches are complementary, not contradictory—a post-2017 political push for more state housing construction, combined with the upzonings in Auckland and elsewhere in New Zealand, has driven public housing permits to record highs. While the government came nowhere near meeting its ambitious national public housing goals, Greenaway-McGrevy estimates that AUP reforms nearly tripled public housing construction in Auckland. That construction boom has been especially important for the indigenous Māori, who make up 40% of public housing residents, and Pacific peoples indigenous to other islands, who make up another quarter of residents.

Blocked drains can quickly become a headache for homeowners and businesses alike. They not only disrupt daily activities but also pose potential health hazards and costly repair expenses. In Auckland, ensuring the smooth flow of wastewater is crucial, which is why professional blocked drains inspection services are in high demand. In this article, we will explore the importance of blocked drains inspection in Auckland and how it can help prevent plumbing emergencies.
Section 1: Understanding Blocked Drains
Blocked drains occur when foreign objects, debris, or build-up obstruct the flow of wastewater through pipes. Left unattended, blocked drains can lead to water backups, foul odors, and even structural damage.

RESEARCH: CYCLE OF PLASTIC IN NZ
Facing the impact of dumped plastic waste on the environment
How much plastic is used in NZ?
According to a report by the New Zealand Ministry for the Environment in 2018, New Zealanders used an estimated 1.5 billion kilograms of plastic per year. This includes both imported and domestically produced plastic, and covers a wide range of applications such as packaging, construction materials, and consumer products. The report also highlights that a significant amount of plastic waste in New Zealand ends up in landfills, with only a small percentage being recycled or recovered. There is a serious need to get Kiwis more aware of this and better able to reuse and recycle plastic.
Why is plastic bad in landfill?
Plastic is bad in landfill because it takes a very long time to break down. Unlike organic materials such as food and yard waste, plastic can take hundreds or even thousands of years to decompose. As a result, plastic waste in landfills can accumulate over time and take up valuable space, and can even contaminate the surrounding environment by leaching harmful chemicals into the soil and groundwater. Additionally, plastic waste in landfills can contribute to greenhouse gas emissions as it breaks down, which can exacerbate the effects of climate change. Therefore, it is important to reduce plastic waste and promote recycling and other sustainable alternatives to prevent the negative impacts of plastic waste in landfill.
2. Importance of better education on recycling
There are several common examples of incorrect recycling in New Zealand. Some of the most common mistakes that people make when recycling include:
Contamination: This occurs when non-recyclable materials, such as food waste or dirty items, are placed in the recycling bin. This can make it difficult or impossible to recycle the items correctly.
Tanglers: These are items such as plastic bags, electrical cords, and hoses that can become tangled in the machinery used to sort and process recyclable materials, causing damage and safety hazards.
Soft plastics: These include items such as plastic bags, wrappers, and cling film that cannot be recycled in kerbside recycling bins but can be taken to specific soft plastics recycling locations.
Incorrect plastics: Some types of plastic cannot be recycled in kerbside recycling bins, including polystyrene, PVC, and biodegradable plastics.
Styrofoam: This material is not recyclable in kerbside recycling bins and should be placed in the general waste bin.
Hazardous waste: Items such as batteries, light bulbs, and electronic devices should not be placed in the recycling bin, as they require special handling and disposal.
Incorrect recycling can have a detrimental effect because when non-recyclable items or contaminants are mixed in with recyclable materials, they can contaminate the entire batch, making it difficult or impossible to recycle. As this leads to more waste being sent to landfill, it ultimately undermines the effectiveness of recycling programs and negates the environmental benefits of recycling.
It's important for us to know what plastics can be recycled in NZ and how to prepare them properly for recycling.
Tumblr media
The most common plastic in Aotearoa is single-use plastic bottles. Most plastic bottles are marked with a number 1 or 2, and they are recyclable in most curbside recycling programs. We use 188 of these single-use plastic bottles per household every year, but 36 of the bottles (or nearly one in five) end up in landfill instead of being recycled.
Recycling Guideline by Auckland Council
After checking the recycling number on the containers to make sure they are recyclable:
Rinse all containers
Leave the lids on all bottles and containers
Containers should be no larger than 4 litres
Include paper, cardboard, milk and juice cartons
Tumblr media
3. Reusing our plastic
Because we are a relatively small population and don’t generate a lot of recyclable materials, there is not as much demand for recycling processing facilities in this country. We only process about 33% of our plastic and have to send off the rest to Australia and all the way to Southeast Asia. Recycling is far better than continuing to use raw materials, however, the overseas transporting also adds an impact on the environment through greenhouse gas emissions and air pollution. This is ultimately why it is so important that we try to reuse our plastic as much as we can before throwing them away to be recycled.
Exhibition Concept Idea: Reusing plastic bottles as hydroponic food growing systems. Giving people ideas on how we can upcycle used plastics to grow our own vegetables at home.
