Budget-Friendly Christmas Decorations That Look Stunning
The holiday season is a time of joy, togetherness, and beautiful decorations that transform your home into a festive wonderland. However, decking the halls doesn’t have to cost a fortune. With a bit of creativity and resourcefulness, you can achieve a stunning holiday aesthetic without breaking the bank. Let’s explore practical ways to save money on Christmas decorations and some quick tips to make your home holiday-ready.

How to Save Money on Christmas Decorations
1. Repurpose What You Already Have
Before rushing to the store, take inventory of your existing decorations. A fresh perspective can breathe new life into old ornaments. Consider repainting baubles, adding glitter to dull items, or rearranging your decor to create a fresh look.
2. DIY Decorations
Creating your decorations can be a fun and cost-effective way to add a personal touch to your holiday decor. Use brown Kraft paper to make origami stars, or create garlands with dried citrus slices and foraged greenery. Snowflakes crafted from paper or recycled materials can be hung from windows or the ceiling for an enchanting effect.
3. Shop Off-Season Sales
Plan and purchase decorations during post-Christmas sales when stores offer massive discounts. This is a fantastic way to stock up on high-quality items at a fraction of their original price.
4. Go Natural
Nature offers a treasure trove of decoration materials. Pinecones, twigs, and leaves can be foraged to create rustic wreaths, table centerpieces, or ornaments. Pair them with fairy lights for an elegant touch.
5. Swap with Friends and Family
Organize a decoration exchange with friends or family. Trading unused or gently used items can refresh your decor without spending any money.
Quick Tips to Decorate for Christmas
1. Focus on a Central Theme
Choose a theme, such as minimalistic Scandinavian decor, rustic charm, or classic red and gold, to guide your decoration choices. A cohesive theme creates a polished look even with fewer decorations.
2. Use Lighting Creatively
Fairy lights are versatile and affordable. Use them to wrap around bannisters, drape across mantels, or fill glass jars for a magical glow. Battery-operated LED lights are energy-efficient and can be used in hard-to-reach places.
3. Transform Everyday Items
Everyday household items can double as festive decor. For example, glass bottles can be turned into candle holders or vases for small floral arrangements. Wrap ribbons around picture frames or mirrors to give them a festive touch.
4. Focus on Statement Pieces
Instead of decorating every inch of your home, invest time in a few impactful pieces. A well-decorated Christmas tree, a stunning wreath, or a festive mantelpiece can serve as focal points.
5. Incorporate Affordable Table Décor
Christmas table decorations are an excellent way to add a festive touch without going overboard. Use seagrass placemats for an eco-friendly yet stylish table setting. Pair them with simple white candles, a natural centerpiece made from pine branches, and some red berries for a classic holiday vibe.
Budget-Friendly Outdoor Decorations
Don’t forget the outside of your home! Use natural materials like garlands made from evergreens to decorate doors and windows. Solar-powered lights can illuminate your outdoor space without adding to your energy bill. For a fun twist, paint old pots or tins in holiday colors and use them as planters for mini Christmas trees or poinsettias.
Why Budget-Friendly Can Be Beautiful
It’s easy to get caught up in the allure of expensive decorations, but simplicity often holds a unique charm. Handcrafted and natural elements bring a cozy, warm atmosphere to your space, and knowing you’ve decorated responsibly adds an extra layer of satisfaction.
Final Thoughts
Decorating for Christmas doesn’t have to strain your wallet. By reusing, DIYing, and incorporating natural and affordable elements, you can create a festive ambiance that’s both budget-friendly and visually stunning. Don’t forget to enjoy the process—whether it’s crafting ornaments with your family, foraging for decor materials, or setting a beautiful table with seagrass placemats and candles.
Remember, the best decorations aren’t necessarily the most expensive; they’re the ones that reflect the joy and love of the season. So get creative and make your home a holiday haven without overspending!

The Versatility of Brown Paper Bags: Tips for Everyday Use
Brown paper bags have long been a staple in households and businesses alike. These simple yet highly functional items are incredibly versatile and can be used for a myriad of purposes beyond just carrying groceries. From crafting to organizing, brown paper bags offer practical and creative solutions for everyday tasks. In this blog, we’ll explore the various ways you can use brown paper bags, including paper bags with handles, small paper bags, and even craft bags, to make your life more organized and enjoyable.

The Classic Brown Paper Bag: A Brief History
Brown paper bags have been around since the mid-19th century, originally designed as a sturdy and affordable option for carrying groceries. Their durability and simplicity have kept them in use for over a century. Today, they come in various sizes and styles, including paper bags with handles and small paper bags, making them even more versatile.
Practical Uses for Brown Paper Bags
1. Grocery Shopping and Storage
The most common use for brown paper bags is, of course, grocery shopping. They are sturdy enough to hold a variety of items, from fresh produce to canned goods. Many people prefer using paper bags with handles as they make carrying heavier loads more manageable. Additionally, brown paper bags are biodegradable and recyclable, making them an eco-friendly choice for shopping.
2. Organizing and Decluttering
Brown paper bags can be incredibly useful for organizing and decluttering your home. Use them to sort items in your pantry, store seasonal clothes, or even as temporary bins during a move. Label each bag to easily identify its contents. Small paper bags are perfect for organizing smaller items like office supplies, toiletries, or toys.
3. Gift Wrapping and Presentation
Brown paper bags can be transformed into beautiful and unique gift bags. Use craft supplies like stamps, ribbons, and markers to decorate them according to the occasion. A brown paper bag with handles can be especially stylish when adorned with some personalized touches. This is a cost-effective and eco-friendly alternative to traditional gift wrapping.
Creative Uses for Brown Paper Bags
1. Craft Projects
Brown paper bags are a fantastic resource for a variety of craft projects. They can be cut, folded, painted, and glued into numerous shapes and designs. Here are some fun ideas to get you started:
Paper Bag Puppets: Create fun and imaginative puppets with your kids using paper bags. Draw faces and add yarn for hair, or glue on fabric scraps for clothing.
Homemade Lanterns: Design charming paper lanterns by cutting out patterns and placing a small LED candle inside. This can add a cozy atmosphere to any room.
Decorative Storage: Transform brown paper bags into decorative storage containers. Roll down the top edge to create a sturdy rim, and decorate the exterior to match your home’s decor.
2. Party Decorations
Brown paper bags can be used to create simple yet elegant party decorations. They can be fashioned into banners, table centerpieces, or even party favors. For example, fill small paper bags with treats and close them with a ribbon for an easy and attractive party favor.
3. Planters for Gardening
Brown paper bags can serve as temporary planters for your gardening needs. Fill them with soil and plant seeds or small plants. Once the plants are ready to be transferred to a more permanent pot or garden bed, simply remove the bag and compost it. This is a great way to start seedlings indoors before moving them outside.
Brown Paper Bags for Educational Purposes
1. Teaching Tools
Brown paper bags can be used as effective teaching tools in classrooms. Teachers can use them for interactive activities such as:
Mystery Bags: Place an item inside a brown paper bag and have students guess what it is based on touch alone. This can be a fun way to learn about textures and shapes.
Story Bags: Encourage creativity by having students decorate a paper bag based on a story they’ve read or written. They can then fill the bag with items related to the story.
2. Science Experiments
Brown paper bags can also be used in various science experiments. For example, you can use them to demonstrate how plants grow by placing damp cotton balls and seeds inside the paper bag and watching them sprout over time. This simple experiment can teach children about germination and plant growth.
Brown Paper Bags in the Kitchen
1. Food Storage
Brown paper bags are excellent for storing certain types of food. For example, they are ideal for keeping bread fresh, as they allow the bread to breathe while preventing it from becoming too dry. Similarly, brown paper bags can be used to ripen fruits like bananas and avocados by trapping the ethylene gas they emit.
2. Cooking and Baking
You might be surprised to learn that bag for papers can be used in cooking and baking. For instance, you can use them to bake bread or roast vegetables. Just be sure to monitor the oven temperature and avoid letting the bag come into direct contact with the heating elements to prevent it from catching fire.
Eco-Friendly and Sustainable Uses
1. Recycling and Composting
One of the best things about brown paper bags is that they are eco-friendly. They can be recycled along with other paper products or composted. In the compost, they break down naturally and add valuable organic material to the soil. This makes them a great option for those looking to reduce their environmental footprint.
2. Reusable Alternatives
While brown paper bags are designed for single use, they can often be reused multiple times before being recycled or composted. Use them as lunch bags, storage containers, or even as makeshift book covers. By reusing brown paper bags, you can extend their lifespan and reduce waste.
Comparing Brown Paper Bags with Other Types of Bags
1. Brown Paper Bags vs. White Paper Bags
Both brown and white paper bags have their advantages. Brown paper bags are typically made from recycled materials and have a natural, rustic look. They are also generally more durable than white paper bags. White paper bags, on the other hand, offer a clean, blank canvas that can be easily customized for more formal or festive occasions. The choice between the two depends on your specific needs and aesthetic preferences.
2. Brown Paper Bags vs. Plastic Bags
When it comes to environmental impact, brown paper bags are a better choice than plastic bags. They are biodegradable and recyclable, whereas plastic bags can take hundreds of years to break down and are often not recycled properly. While plastic bags are more water-resistant and durable for certain uses, the ecological benefits of brown paper bags make them a more sustainable option.
Tips for Storing and Maintaining Brown Paper Bags
1. Proper Storage
To keep brown paper bag in good condition, store them in a dry place away from direct sunlight. Excessive moisture can weaken the paper, while prolonged exposure to sunlight can cause the bags to become brittle. Keep them flat or folded neatly to prevent creases and tears.
2. Reinforcing Handles
If you plan to use brown paper bags with handles for carrying heavier items, consider reinforcing the handles with extra tape or glue. This can help prevent the handles from tearing and ensure that the bag remains sturdy.
Innovative Uses for Brown Paper Bags in Daily Life
1. Fashion and Accessories
Believe it or not, paper bags with handles can be used to create unique fashion items and accessories. With a bit of creativity and crafting skills, you can make hats, jewelry, or even purses out of brown paper bags. These items can be a fun and eco-friendly addition to your wardrobe.
2. Home Decor
Incorporate brown paper bags into your home decor for a rustic and natural look. Use them to cover books, create wall art, or make custom storage boxes. The neutral color and texture of brown paper bags can complement a variety of interior design styles.
Conclusion: Embracing the Versatility of Brown Paper Bags
Brown paper bags are more than just a simple tool for carrying groceries. Their versatility makes them invaluable in numerous aspects of daily life, from organizing and crafting to cooking and teaching. By exploring the many ways to use brown paper bags, you can enhance your creativity, organization, and sustainability efforts.
Whether you’re looking for a practical solution to store items, a creative project to work on, or an eco-friendly alternative to plastic, brown paper bags have you covered. Their simplicity and functionality make them a perfect choice for anyone looking to add a touch of versatility to their everyday routine. So next time you come across a brown paper bag, think beyond its traditional use and consider the endless possibilities it offers.

"Businesses like to talk about the concept of a closed loop or circular economy, but often they’re trying to close small loops. Releaf Paper takes dead leaves from city trees and turns them into paper for bags, office supplies, and more—which is to say they are striving to close one heck of a big loop.
How big? Six billion trees are cut down every year for paper products according to the WWF, producing everything from toilet paper to Amazon boxes to the latest best-selling novels. Meanwhile, the average city produces 8,000 metric tons of leaves every year which clog gutters and sewers, and have to be collected, composted, burned, or dumped in landfills.
In other words, huge supply and huge demand, but Releaf Paper is making cracking progress. They already produce 3 million paper carrier bags per year from 5,000 metric tons of leaves from their headquarters in Paris.
Joining forces with landscapers in sites across Europe, thousands of tonnes of leaves arrive at their facility where a low-water, zero-sulfur/chlorine production process sees the company create paper with much smaller water and carbon footprints...
“In a city, it’s a green waste that should be collected. Really, it’s a good solution because we are keeping the balance—we get fiber for making paper and return lignin as a semi-fertilizer for the cities to fertilize the gardens or the trees. So it’s like a win-win model,” [Valentyn] Frechka, co-founder and CTO of Releaf Paper, told Euronews.
Releaf is already selling products to LVMH, BNP Paribas, Logitech, Samsung, and various other big companies. In the coming years, Frechka and Sobolenka also plan to further increase their production capacity by opening more plants in other countries. If the process is cost-efficient, there’s no reason there shouldn’t be a paper mill of this kind in every city.
“We want to expand this idea all around the world. At the end, our vision is that the technology of making paper from fallen leaves should be accessible on all continents,” Sobolenka notes, according to ZME Science."

“Merry Christmas!” you both called out cheerfully as the door opened.
Your mom appeared in the doorway, her face lighting up at the sight of her daughter, son-in-law, and grandson.
“Oh, Y/N!” she exclaimed, pulling you into a tight hug.
“And look at this little one!”
Her eyes softened as she bent down to stroke Rustyn’s cheek.
“Merry Christmas, Mom,” you said warmly, stepping aside so Drew could greet her.
Drew leaned in to give her a quick hug, careful not to jostle the baby carrier.
“Merry Christmas! We’ve been looking forward to this all month.”
“And so have we,” your mom replied, beaming.
“Oh, come in, come in! It’s freezing out there.”
As you stepped inside, the warmth of the house enveloped you, and the sound of laughter and holiday music made your heart swell.
Drew’s family was already mingling with yours, chatting as if they’d known each other forever. It was exactly what you had envisioned when you and Drew decided to bring both families together for Christmas this year.
Your dad approached, his smile wide as he greeted Drew with a handshake that quickly turned into a hug.
“There’s my son-in-law! And my grandson,” he said, his voice filled with pride.
He leaned down to make funny faces at Rustyn, who responded with an excited giggle.
“Say hi to Grandpa,”
Drew said, gently lifting one of Rustyn’s tiny hands to wave. Your dad’s laughter echoed through the room, and you couldn’t help but smile at the sweet interaction between them.
After everyone had exchanged warm greetings, you and Drew found yourselves in the living room, where the Christmas tree stood tall and sparkling. Its ornaments glimmered and a stack of presents was piled neatly underneath.
Brooke, Drew’s sister, knelt down beside you with a brightly wrapped box in her hands.
“This one’s for Rustyn,” she said, her eyes twinkling.
“Oh, how exciting!”
You exclaimed, settling Rustyn on your lap so he could reach for the present. Though only six months old, his chubby hands eagerly grabbed at the wrapping paper, his face lighting up with a toothless grin.
“You’ve got this, buddy,”
Drew encouraged, leaning over to help tear a small piece of the paper.
Rustyn squealed in delight as the gift was revealed; a soft, plush dragon. You gasped dramatically, holding it up for him.
“Look at this, Rustyn! Your first dragon! Say thank you to Aunty Brooke.”
Drew chuckled.
“He’s going to love that. I can already tell.”
“Speaking of gifts,”
Drew added, standing up to retrieve a bag from under the tree,
“Rustyn has a little something for everyone, too.”
He began handing out small, thoughtfully wrapped presents you had both prepared. Each gift had been chosen with care, personalized ornaments for the grandparents, matching scarves for the aunts and uncles, and even a little handmade card from Rustyn (with your help, of course).
The room is now fill with nothing but with laughter and gratitude as the gifts were opened.
Soon, the smell of roasted turkey and warm bread wafted in from the dining room. Everyone gathered around the beautifully set table, the centerpiece adorned with holly and candles. Drew helped you into your seat before settling into his own, Rustyn still securely strapped in his baby carrier.
As plates were passed and glasses were raised, Rustyn began to fuss, his face scrunching up as he let out a small cry.
“Oops, someone’s hungry,”
Your mom observed with a gentle smile.
You started to rise from your seat, but Drew placed a hand on your arm, his voice calm and reassuring.
“Babe, I’ve got this. You eat, I’ll calm him down.”
You shook your head with a soft smile.
“No, it’s okay. I’ll feed him. You should enjoy your food too.”
Drew nodded, helping you unbuckle the baby carrier. He handed Rustyn over carefully, his fingers brushing against yours in a way that made your heart flutter.
“Let me at least save your plate,” he said, his eyes warm.
You carried Rustyn to the living room, where the lights were softer and the atmosphere quieter which really help Rustyn calm down.
Sitting on the couch, you cradled him in your arms as you began nursing. The soft light of the Christmas tree lit the room, and the crackle sound of the fireplace added to the cozy ambiance.
About fifteen minutes later, Drew appeared in the doorway, holding your plate, now freshly refilled with warm food. A glass of warm water was balanced in his other hand.
“You didn’t think I’d let you miss Christmas dinner, did you?”
He teased, a playful grin on his face. He plopped down on the floor in front of you, crossing his legs and setting the plate on his lap.
“Now, open up.”
You laughed, shaking your head.
“You’re ridiculous.”
“Ridiculously in love with you,”
He countered, spearing a piece of turkey with his fork and holding it up to your lips.
You rolled your eyes but leaned forward to take a bite.
“You know, I could’ve waited until later.”
“And miss the chance to pamper my wife? Never,” he said, leaning forward to kiss your forehead.
Rustyn, now full and content, gave a soft coo, his tiny fingers clutching at the fabric of your sweater. You glanced down at him, your heart swelling with love, before looking back at Drew.
“I think you’re spoiling us both,” you murmured.
Drew’s grin softened into something more tender.
“You two deserve it. Every bit of it.”
After dinner and more chit chat, the family gathered once again in the living room, this time for games and stories. Rustyn, now awake and in a playful mood, was passed around from grandparent to grandparent, each one marveling at his tiny hands and infectious smile.
Brooke pulled out her phone to snap a picture of Drew holding Rustyn, who was tugging at the festive Santa hat on Drew’s head.
“That’s definitely going on the family Christmas card,” she said, laughing.
By the evening, Rustyn had fallen asleep in Drew’s arms, his little head resting against Drew’s chest. You sat beside them on the couch, your head leaning against Drew’s shoulder as you watched the twinkling lights of the tree.
“Merry Christmas, Drew,” you whispered, your voice soft with emotion.
He turned his head, pressing a kiss to your temple.
“Merry Christmas, Y/N. I don’t think it gets better than this.”
Tears pricked your eyes as you reached for his hand.
“Thank you, for being such an amazing husband. And an amazing dad.”
He squeezed your hand, his gaze dropping to Rustyn’s peaceful face.
“Thank you for making me both.”
Drew tilted your chin up, capturing your lips in a kiss filled with all the love and promises of the years to come.

Just friends?
Percy Jackson x reader
Warnings: making out, I think that’s it tbh
——————————————————————————
My brain was fried. I had been working on homework and studying for hours all week. I had just about isolated myself in the library, and even managed to get on a first-name basis with the librarian.
I regretted my decision to take so many credits this semester, but I just got so excited when I got into New Rome University that I went a little overboard. The only person who was taking more classes than me was Annabeth- of course. She had spent some time with me in the library this week, but other than that I hadn't gotten any social interaction outside of my classes. I knew my best friend Percy was probably wondering where I was.
I submitted a paper that I didn't even have the energy to proofread. I just was hoping for the best at that point. Just as I clicked submit, I got a text notification on my computer. It was such a relief to be able to use normal technology at school. It was so hard in the mortal world to constantly explain why I couldn't have phone.
The text was from Percy.
Where have you been? Haven't seen you all week
I smiled, immediately pulling out my phone to text him back.
Library. So much work :(
I glanced over at the window, seeing that the sun had begun setting. I sighed, pulling out some of my notes to begin studying. I only got a few minutes in before my brain couldn’t take in any more, and I checked my phone once again. Percy had responded.
Got any free time tonight?
I rolled my eyes. ‘Only for you’ I thought, although I decided not to text it.
What do you have in mind?
After I sent that text, I tried my best to give my attention to my notes. Again, I failed. I wasn’t sure my brain could take in another ounce of information without giving up on me.
I slowly packed up my belongings, deciding it would be best for me to just go back to my dorm. When I exited the library, it was dark. I quickly walked back to my room. As soon as I got there, I dropped my backpack, changing into comfortable clothes. My phone buzzed again.
Want to come over?
I yawned, considering it, then deciding I didn’t have the energy to leave my dorm tonight.
Can you come here?
I hadn’t even finished putting my hair up when he responded.
On my way
I smiled, unlocking the door and turning on my tv before getting comfortable on my bed.
I was relieved to be seeing him again after my extremely long week. When we were growing up, we had gotten used to only seeing each other in the summer. At college however, we saw each other at least four times a week. Even when it’s doing small things— walking to class, going to the dining hall— we had really gotten used to eachother’s presence this year. It felt weird to go a week without seeing him.
I also was slightly relieved that it would just be the two of us tonight. I loved Annabeth so much, but I honestly didn’t have the social battery to interact with more than one person after my mental exhaustion. Plus, Annabeth would be doing homework all weekend anyways.
A few minutes after I’d gotten comfortable, I heard a knock on the door. “Come in!” I called.
A moment later, my best friend came walking through the door with a plastic bag and a cup carrier in his hand. I smiled, standing to close and lock the door behind him.
“Hey,” he said, setting the drinks on my desk.
“What’s this?” I asked, gesturing to the bag.
He shrugged, holding it up slightly, “I just assumed you’d be too busy to think about eating, so I picked up some take out for us.”
I beamed up at him, gratefully taking the bag and thanking him.
After being best friends with someone for almost ten years, you really get to learn how they work. Percy always was one that hit the nail on the head when it came to my habits. He was right, I probably would have forgotten about dinner if he hadn’t brought it.
He kicked his shoes off, jumping onto my bed and pointing to the drinks, “I also got some hot chocolate, I wasn’t sure if you wanted any, but I was stopping anyway.”
I nodded, smiling at him, “Thank you, Percy. You’re the best.”
We both sat on my bed, watching the new season of Outerbanks together as we ate our dinner. I tried my best to pay attention to the show, but I couldn’t stop myself from yawning and zoning out.
When we both finished our food, Percy stood, taking the trash from my bed and throwing it into my trash can. I yawned again.
“You okay? I can go if you want to just go to bed,” he said.
I shook my head, “I’m okay,” I said, patting the spot next to me, “stay a little.”
I knew that I needed sleep, but I missed his presence. It felt weird that this was the first time seeing him in days.
I layed down on my bed, getting comfortable and yawning again. Percy paused the show, taking his place next to me again and laying on his side to face me.
“My mom called today,” he said quietly.
“Yeah?” I said, “how is she doing?”
He chuckled, “she’s good, she said she’s happy you and Annabeth are here to ‘keep me in check’,” he said, using air quotes on the last bit.
I laughed, “seems like it’s the other way around right now, I wouldn’t have even remembered dinner if you didn’t bring it to me.”
He paused, rolling onto his back and fiddling with the edge of his sweatshirt sleeve. He didn’t say anything, and I could immediately tell that something was off.
“What’s up?” I said, still facing him. I found myself staring at his pretty face, and thinking about what Annabeth had been saying to me earlier that week. She always said that Percy and I should ‘stop pretending and just get together.’
It definitely wasn’t something that I could say I’ve never considered, I just couldn’t risk ruining the friendship. I’d seen several of my college friends lose their friends by taking it a step too far. I would never recover if I made things awkward between us.
He interrupted my thoughts, when he spoke again. “Paul and my mom asked about you.”
I smiled, moving slightly closer to him to get more comfortable, “Oh yeah? What did they say?”
He looked back down at his sleeve, fiddling with it again. He paused for another moment, before saying, “Just like— they keep asking about us…”
I hesitated, having an idea of what he meant, but I decided to push, “What do you mean?”
He sighed, tossing his arms down to his sides and staring back at the ceiling, “They like… make assumptions— just because we hangout so much.”
I nodded, deciding to question him further, “We hangout with Annabeth too most of the time.”
He glanced over at me, opening his mouth like he was about to say something, but turned back to the ceiling and began playing with his sleeve again.
I leaned forward to rest a hand on his arm, which he glanced at, before looking back at the ceiling.
I took a deep breath, realizing that he wasn’t going to speak up, so I did. “So they’re inquiring into the nature of our relationship?”
He snapped his head over to me, brows furrowing in confusion.
I laughed, “They are asking if we’re really just friends?”
He turned his head back to face the ceiling, “Ohhhh, yeah. Pretty much.”
I nodded, removing my hand from his arm and propping myself up slightly to get a better look at his face.
“And what did you say?” I asked.
He turned on his side, fully facing me now, and propped himself up on his arm so we were looking at eachother.
He breathed in, before saying, “I said I’m not really sure.”
I nodded, looking into his eyes and knowing where this conversation was leading. We’d been putting it off for years. It scared me. I didn’t want to ruin our friendship, but looking into his sea-green eyes I knew that I couldn’t keep pretending.
“You’re not really sure?” I asked, cocking my head slightly to the side.
“I mean…” he started, and I watched his eyes scan my face before continuing, “I don’t know. It felt weird not seeing you this week. Like… I missed you.”
I laughed at his awkwardness, but said, “I missed you too, Percy.”
I swore I could see his gaze flicker down to my lips for a millisecond, but I chose to ignore it. It made me feel tense and my heart started racing.
He sighed, nodding, but sounding confident when he said,“What should I say then, next time they ask?”
I could feel my face heat up. I can’t keep dodging this. I can’t avoid it forever.
“What do you want to say?” I asked, trying to stall so that I wouldn’t have to make any decisions.
He pursed his lips, but didn’t lose his confidence, “I think it’d be fair to say that we’re not really just friends. And that we should have had this conversation a while ago.”
I nodded. Of course he knew what I was thinking. How could he not? We know each other almost as well as we know ourselves.
I swallowed, and my voice came out as a whisper, “I think that’d be fair to say.”
He nodded, and his gaze flickered down to my lips again, only slightly more noticeably this time.
I cleared my throat, my heart racing, “So if not friends, then what?” I asked quietly.
He searched my face, and I could feel his breath now. I wasn’t sure when we had gotten so close, but we were really close.
It’s not that I had never kissed a guy, I had. They’d all just been with people I never really cared about. I knew somewhere deep down that I would never really like anyone else. He was always in the back of my mind. And now with his breath on my face, I was nervous. We’d never crossed the line in our friendship beyond the occasional cuddle, but even that was rare.
“What do you want us to be?” He flipped the question on me, and his lip quirked into a small grin.
I paused, not knowing what to say. I searched his face, eyes focusing on his lips for a second longer than they should’ve.
“Can I be honest?” I whispered, eyes falling to his lips again before meeting his eyes.
He nodded, his eyes falling to my lips too. I could hear his breath quicken as the distance between us seemed to shrink.
“I’ve known we should’ve had this conversation for a long time, but now that we’re having it I don’t really know what to say,” I said, and his gaze returned to my eyes, “I really care about you, Percy.”
He nodded, “I really care about you, too.”
We stared at eachother, neither of us knowing what to do. Neither of us had ever been in a real relationship before. It was new territory for both of us. But of course Percy always knows exactly what to say.
“Will you go out with me? Tomorrow night?” He asked, before quickly saying, “Unless you have too much work, I mean.”
I smiled, feeling a fluttery sensation in my stomach before saying, “I’d love to.”
He nodded, scooting closer to me, “Yeah?”
I nodded, biting my lip and smiling, “Yeah.”
Our faces were inches from each other now. I let my gaze fall to his lips, and his hand reached out to rest on my jaw.
Slowly, he finally leaned in. His lips touched mine, softly at first, like he was scared that if he moved too fast, he might break me. I let out a soft exhale through my mode, and he pulled me closer, deepening the kiss. I could feel his hand slide from my jaw to the back of my neck, his fingers tangling in my hair.
We pulled away for a moment, both of us breathing heavy, and looking deeply into eachothers eyes. We both had massive grins painted on our face. Without a second thought, our lips were on eachothers again.
The room suddenly felt hot. My hands made their way to his chest, feeling the rapid beat of his heart beneath my finger tips. All I can think is— why did we wait so long? I let my fingers curl in his shirt, bringing him closer, as the kiss quickly grows more urgent, more intense.
He held me tightly, like he was afraid I might slip away. I felt his hand slide down to my waist, pressing me against him. I let out a quiet gasp as he pulled me onto his lap, firmly guiding me until I straddled him. Nothing else mattered. Just him, our lips, the feeling of our bodies so close together after so many years.
His fingers hesitantly trailed up under my shirt, the touch sending shivers through me as he let his fingertips move along my bare skin. I could feel my breathing pick up, my hands sliding up to his shoulders. I found the courage to tug at the hem of his shirt, pulling it up. He pulled away, breaking the kiss just long enough to let me lift it over his head, revealing the warm skin beneath. My hands explored his chest, his shoulders, feeling every inch of him as he watched me with that soft, intense gaze, like he’s waiting for my every move.
He slowly pushed my shirt up, and I shakily lifted my arms, letting him slide it off. When it was off, we locked eyes, still smiling like idiots. His hands quickly found my waist again, his fingers splaying across my back as he pulled me close, his lips finding mine once more. I could feel the warmth of his skin against mine, the slight brush of his chest as I pressed myself against him, feeling his heart racing just as fast as mine.
He grabbed my hips, encouraging me to move back and forth. I gasped into the kiss, and began grinding with his grip. We moved together, the friction between us heavy, and I let out a quiet moan. I couldn’t believe we were really doing this. I felt him shiver at the sound, his breath catching as he presses his forehead to mine, pulling away from the kiss but not stopping his movements.
“Gods,” he whispered, his voice rough, barely more than a breath. “I’ve wanted us for so long.”
I could almost feel tears prickle in my eyes, as I breathlessly replied, “Me too.”
He leaned down, kissing my neck with an intensity that I never knew he was capable of. He nipped and kissed, only pausing to mumble, “Since we were 15.”
His confession sent a surge of warmth through me, my hands moving to explore his back, tracing the muscles there. The muscles that I was so familiar with. That I’d seen in battle countless times.
I felt him shudder, his grip on my waist tightening as he lifted his head from my neck, pressing me against him with a need that matched my own. I rolled my hips, feeling the heat build, and he let out a low, breathless groan, his fingers digging into my skin as he joined our lips together again.
Our kiss was electric, heavy, and full of everything we wanted to say and do to each other for years. I leaned into him, pressing my forehead to his, feeling the warmth of his skin. My eyes welled when he stopped moving our hips together, and I saw the soft, vulnerable smile that played at his lips as he whispered my name like a promise.
I whispered his back, feeling my heart fill with an affection that I’d been holding back all these years.
We stayed like that for a while, embracing each other with a few soft, stolen kisses every now and then. We whispered to each other about how happy we were, and he suggested a few dinner places for tomorrow night.
Eventually, we decided to lay down together, but when I finally got comfortable he sat up, saying it’s late and he should probably let me sleep.
I shook my head, rolling my eyes, “Stay, dummy.”
He smiled brightly, and layed back down, embracing me again. We fell asleep like that, only to be woken up the next morning by a knock on my door. I hadn’t been expecting anyone, but I nudged Percy awake.
We looked at each other, wide eyed, and scrambled to find our shirts and fix our appearances.
The knock came again.
“Just a second!” I called out, combing through my hair with my fingers as Percy carefully straightened out my blankets. He gave me a thumbs up when it looked satisfactory.
I nodded, turning to open the door. There stood Annabeth, open notebook in hand, not looking up yet but saying, “Gods, what took you so long?”
I looked at Percy for help, before hesitantly saying, “Sorry, my room was a mess.”
She furrowed her eyebrows, looking up suspiciously, when her eyes caught on Percy. She smirked, closing her book and looking between us.
She checked her watch with a knowing smirk, “Wow, Percy, what are you doing here so early?”
I could feel my face heat up, as Percy struggled to find his words.
“I- uhhh… yeah…” he so eloquently said.
Annabeth shook her head, smiling at us. “It’s about time. I’m going to the library, was just going to see if you wanted to come, but obviously you’re already occupied.” She said, turning and walking back down the hall.
I closed the door as she walked away, and Percy’s face was just as bright red as mine felt.
We stared at eachother for a moment, both of us unsure of what to do.
“Wanna get back in bed?” Percy asked, scratching the back of his neck.
I smiled, taking his hand and dragging him back up to my bed. “I’d love to.”

(wc 1.6k)
a series of vibrations from your phone rudely pulls you out of your sleep and you swipe your hand across the bed to silence the notifications. you find your phone connected to abby's charger on her vacant side of the bed, the sheets cold without the warmth from her skin to heat them up. she always ran hot—especially during the night—which usually resulted in her yelping at your cold feet pressed to her thighs and trying to absorb her warmth in the hours of the night.
you raise your phone to your face and are met with four notifications from abby on your home screen.
abby :p otw back with our loot
abby :p two berry pastries for the missus and one cream cheese puff pastry for me

abby :p and nadia gave us two chocolate croissants bc we're super cool
swiping to unlock your phone, you head to messages and reply to her.
you YAY thanks you're the best
you we gotta get nadia a gift card or somethin
you or a bottle of liquor
you head to the bathroom to brush your teeth with your toothbrush abby got for you for her apartment since you slept over so often. while you load your brush with toothpaste, your phone lights up with a notice from messages: "abby :p loved 'or a bottle of liquor.' " sticking the toothbrush in your mouth, you smile around the minty foam and continue freshening up before abby returns.
around ten minutes later, you hear the jingle of her keys at the front door and practically skip to the living room to retrieve your pastries.
abby unlocks the door and pushes it open, a brown bag with a cafe logo printed on it in one hand and a drink carrier with two coffee cups hanging from her ring and pinky fingers in her other. with her few remaining fingers grasping onto her car keys to not drop them, she nudges the door back shut with her hip and locks it.
her blonde head donns a blue and white trucker hat, the brim of it blocking her from seeing you standing and sheepishly smiling a few strides away. she calls out to you to signal her return.
"hey, i'm back! and i come bearing gifts. i got-" it's then that abby takes her hat off and notices you inching ever closer. "oh, hi. i got you herbal tea. there weirdly was a lot of traffic today, even though it's, like, seven."
she continues on as she unpacks everything that she got for you. "then again, i guess kids have school. man, i hated that about high school—waking up early and getting to class on tim- you know what? you're not listening anyway with your food right in front of you," she chuckles. "go on. release! free!" she pokes, using command words for a dog.
you kiss your teeth and scowl at her, mumbling a "whatever" before tearing into the paper bag. you're met with your two fruit pastries first, then you spot the chocolate croissants abby mentioned under them.
the two of you stand and eat in comfortable silence in the kitchen, you sipping on your tea and abby picking at her puff pastry. when you finish, you clean both of your spots and abby throws away the paper bag and pastry wrappers, washing her hands after.
after breakfast, you guys ping pong around her apartment, moving from her bed to the couch to the floor and then back to her bed again, all just to talk or scroll on your phones.
hours pass, and after a brief joint nap in her bedroom, you guys now sat on the floor of her living room, light filtering in from her large windows and warming your skin. the floor was littered in origami squares of all different sizes and colors, the origami book abby had gotten for you split open between you two.
there was a village of origami figures surrounding you, from hearts to frogs to ladybugs to cranes. the book was flipped to a particularly challenging page of an elephant, and you looked over at abby in confusion.
she was just as confused as you, if not more. her hair was tied in a messy golden knot at the nape of her neck, loose strands crazy and framing her face. her brows were pulled tight on her face, her eyes bewildered and looking at the same piece of paper in her hands as if she'd never seen it before.
"what step are you on?" she asks, looking at the square in front of you that you were working on.
"twelve. out of..." you flip the page twice. "god. thirty." you sit up straight to stretch your back out. "i get it, though. kinda."
"what? show me. i’m on, like, seven. i swear they skipped a step. or forgot to add a picture. just something is wrong."
you scoot over to sit next to her, pulling your leg to your body and propping your cheek on it. abby places her piece in front of you puts her hands in her crossed lap, her eyes wide and waiting for you to make sense of her issue.
"okay, let's see." you pull the book closer to you to confirm the step she's on. "step seven is... rotating and folding the back of the elephant."
"which i did," abby verifies.
you rotate the piece and immediately find her mistake. "which you did not."
"what?! where?"
"here." you trace your finger along the missing crease. "you see how on mine, this part is creased and pointed? like a peak?"
"uh-huh..."
"and yours doesn't do that."
she simply hums, so you look over at her to confirm that she's listening. her eyes are unfocused and locked on your face. they flit between your own and then drop to your lips for a second. the single second feels quite long, though, when she looks so deeply at you in the way that she does, or when her baby hairs draw attention to her blonde lashes, long and very slightly curled around her sapphire eyes.
she seems to snap out it—whatever it was—and she deeply inhales, licking her lips and refocusing on the task at hand.
"can you repeat that?" she asks. "sorry, i... i zoned out."
it was your turn, now, to lose focus and examine her. you stare at her lips, rosy and still glossy from her just licking them. you stare at the corners of them and the ever so slight frown her mouth always pulls into when she's focused. you stare at the little creases in them, the dozens of lines that-
"are you looking at my lips?" she questions, interrogative and almost paranoid.
"oh, um, sorry. i was-"
"why were you looking at them?" she interrupts again, her eyes wild and demanding an answer from you.
"because, i- well, you just licked them, so- i don't know. because." you swallow, mumbling, "what, can i not look at them or something?"
her stone stare softens after noticing your flustered state, and the two of you exchange a long and quiet look.
abby held her breath nearly the entire time. she didn't want to assume anything or read the situation wrong, but your eyes were dilated. they were dilated from looking at her, and just from that.
as if it were out of your control—like you were magnets—you started moving closer to her. abby could not seem to remember how to control a single muscle in her body, so she just sat and watched you move closer as her cheeks grew pinker and pinker.
you stop right in front of her face, the tips of your noses kissing and your breaths shared. after a few seconds, you realized abby wouldn't initiate anything, so you leaned in and pressed your lips to hers, short and sweet. when you pulled away, abby's eyes remained closed for a few seconds before they slowly fluttered open.
"you just kissed me," abby whispers in disbelief, pointing out the obvious.
"i just kissed you," you echo back.
it's abby who leans in for the second kiss, thick and intense with emotion, her hand sliding up your arm. her hand reaches the back of your neck, and she pulls you closer and deepens the kiss.
you press your forehead to hers and stop kissing her, an infectious smile taking up your features instead.
"are you.. are you seriously smiling right now?" abby gasps theatrically with mock offense.
your smile breaks out into giggles and you press your face into her cheek to hide.
"wow, i cannot believe this. you are laughing at our kiss!" she teases.
"stop, no i’m not!" you plead, still laughing.
"whatever you say." she grabs your chin between her fingers and pulls your face back to look at you. peppering kisses on your cheeks, she relents on her taunting.
"are you gonna show me what i did wrong, or what?" she says, referring to the initial topic of her paper elephant.
you smile back at her. "yeah, i will."
"okay." she presses one last kiss to your temple and then waits for your instruction.
"i was saying, there's supposed to be a crease here, on what'll be the back of the elephant."
abby nods and hums like she's listening, but really, she smiles at your profile as you continue to speak.

girls on film - jonathan byers

Jonathan Byers x shy! female! reader
Main Masterlist
ST Characters Masterlist
Summary:
When you get assigned a photography project with Jonathan, you end up trying something…experimental.
Warnings:
Smut (18+), unprotected p in v, oral (m receiving)
Word Count: 5.1k
A/N:
So excited for my first Jonathan fic! I’ve been working on this for weeks so I’m so happy it’s finally done 😅
You adjusted the settings on your Nikon F3. Attaching the 55mm lens, you held the camera up to your eye, focusing on your subject - your dog. You were grateful for the fast shutter speed on your new camera, because the Border Collie did not sit still.
“Lucy, stay!” You commanded, hoping you could just get this shot for your photography class. The long haired black and white dog looked at you with her tongue hanging out of her mouth. She listened, but you knew you had only moments before she took off, ready to run the 5 acres of land your family lived on, chasing after the livestock.
You snapped the photo just in time before she stood and ran. You hoped you got a good one, but there was no way to tell until you developed the film. You did not want to get an F on this project just because your dog wouldn’t cooperate.
You sighed as you removed the lens from the camera body, storing both back in their bag. You loved photography - it had become a passion of yours your freshman year of high school. It was your favorite form of art. And you could do it completely solo - you honestly hated interacting with your classmates. Not that there was anything wrong with them (well, not most of them, at least), you just preferred your own company.
You slung the camera bag over your shoulder and walked through the yard and back to your house. The smell of dinner wafted from the kitchen, but you headed up to your room instead. You carefully sat your camera bag on your desk and fell back onto your full size bed.
Your room felt childish. Nothing had changed since middle school. There weren’t photos with friends decorating your mirror, no gifts from your nonexistent relationships. Your bed was still covered with stuffed animals (though you’d never admit you still liked sleeping with them). The walls were painted a pale pink. The only recent decorations were the prints you made of your photography.
Lucy, the farm animals, your family, school events you were asked to photograph for the yearbook. Flowers, photos from finally trips, anything interesting you’d found with your camera on you - which it usually was.
You hoped these photos of Lucy turned out so you could add them to the collection. The left side of your room needed something new. Hell, your life needed something new. Something fresh. Something exciting.
The next day at school, you snuck into the dark room during lunch. You had the space to yourself, which you were grateful for.
Firstly, you mixed together your chemicals so they would be ready, pouring them into their respective trays. You then unloaded the roll of film from your camera. You looked over the negatives, finding some photos of Lucy that turned out great - thank god. You turned the negative around, placing it in the carrier before carefully removing any dust. You placed the carrier in the enlarger. You adjusted the size, using the focusing wheel to make sure it was completely in focus. You adjusted the lens aperture to F8, sliding a filter into the enlarger.
Next, you took a sheet of the photo paper and placed it into the easel. You exposed the photo onto the sheet of paper for about 5 seconds. You moved the sheet to your tray of developer, sliding it in quickly and carefully, then moved the tray gently, watching as the chemicals moved and your photo of Lucy developed in front of your eyes. After 60 seconds, you used the tongs to remove the photo and place it in the stop bath. You slid this tray around, too, using a separate pair of tongs to remove the print and place it into the fixer. After 30 seconds, you checked the thermometer in your tray of water, finding it perfectly at 68 degrees Fahrenheit. You removed the photo and placed it in the tray of water for 2 minutes, emptying and refilling the water a few times to make sure to wash away all the chemicals. When you were done, you hung the black and white photo to dry and continued with the others you wanted to print.
When you were done, you flipped the lights back on, gathering your prints. You checked the clock on the wall and were relieved to see there was still a decent chunk of lunch left - hopefully there would be some pizza left to grab. You pulled the door open and immediately smashed into something - or someone. You stumbled back, your photos falling from your hands.
“I’m so sorry! Here, let me help,” the guy said, crouching down to gather your stuff for you before you had the chance to. He stood, handing your stuff back, and you found yourself looking into the brown eyes of Jonathan Byers. He looked down at your photos as he handed them over. “Sorry, I didn’t know anyone was in here.”
“It’s okay,” you assured him, a blush creeping onto your cheeks. “I just finished up in here.” You brushed your hair behind your ear, feeling shy now that you were no longer in the safety of the darkroom alone.
Jonathan gave you a small kind smile, one that had your heart beating a little harder in your chest. “Your photos look great, by the way,” he added, gesturing to the prints clutched safely in your grasp.
“Oh, thanks,” you said, avoiding his gaze. You cursed yourself for the way you always got shy around other people. It was Jonathan, he was probably the nicest guy in your senior class.
Maybe it was the fact that you’d had a crush on him for forever, watching him in photography class, noticing the beautiful photographs he produced every single time. He was quiet, kind, kept to himself just like you. You had to admit you wanted to get to know him better, but you were scared.
“I’ll, uh, see you in class,” Jonathan said, that same friendly smile on his face. You nodded and slipped by him out of the door. You heard it close behind you as you quickly walked to the cafeteria, hoping there would be something left for you to eat.
You walked into 7th period Photography, taking your seat at your usual desk in the back. Mr. Howard was at the front of the room, talking with another student from last period as the rest of the class filed in. Jonathan gave you a small nod when he walked in, and you returned it before turning your head to hide the blush on your cheeks, again.
You turned in your work as class began, pleased with how the photographs of Lucy had turned out. About halfway through class, Mr. Howard clapped his hands together, commanding the attention of every student.
“Alright, class.” He drummed his hands on the desk like a drumroll, a mischievous smile on his face. “It’s time for your portrait partner project assignments!”
The whole class let out a chorus of groans. Mr. Howard only laughed. “Your partner assignments are posted on the bulletin board. Please check after class.”
Class went on as usual, but you couldn’t focus, too worried about who you would be paired with. You hated working with others, honestly. You preferred being alone whenever possible.
When class was over and most of your classmates had already left, you tentatively made your way over to the board. You scanned the list with your finger tracing down the list of names until you found your own, and the name beside it - Jonathan Byers.
It could definitely have been worse. Jonathan was nice, and he was talented. But he was also…really cute.
“Looks like we’re working together,” a voice came from behind you, and you turned to see Jonathan smiling politely with his bag over his shoulder.
“Looks like it,” you agreed, unable to make eye contact with him. “Do you…want to work at my place or yours?”
“Uh…” He thought for a moment. “My mom has work until late and my brother has his D&D campaign, if you want to come over?”
“Sounds good,” you said. You hadn’t exactly been thrilled at the idea of Jonathan in your middle school style bedroom.
“I can give you a ride, if you want?”
The thought of riding in Jonathan Byers’ car alone with him terrified and excited you. You’d never been alone with a boy before.
“Okay,” you agreed, looking down to hide the blush on your face. You were pretty sure he saw right through you, though - you weren’t exactly being subtle.
He nodded towards the hallway, indicating for you to follow him out of the classroom. You did, and the two of you walked out to the school parking lot together. No one paid you any mind.
He led the way to his rusted Ford LTD. After unlocking the doors for you both, you slid into your respective seats. It took him a few times to get the car started, but eventually it did.
The Byers lived a bit out of the way, a good distance from the main part of Hawkins. So did you, but you had never been out this way. He drove up the dirt driveway of the small house, parking off to the side to leave room for his mother’s car.
You had never been to any of your classmate’s houses before - not since middle school when you were best friends with Chrissy Cunningham, before you drifted apart. It was strange being here alone with him, and the fact that you liked it was even stranger.
Jonathan unlocked the front door and led you inside, walking down the hall towards what you assumed was his bedroom. His room was tidy, his bed made and no clothes strewn across the floor. He had a turntable with stereo on his dresser with a large collection of records and an Evil Dead poster on the wall, which you noticed immediately.
“That’s my favorite movie!” You said, suddenly excited. “I love Ash.”
Jonathan smiled, gently setting his bags on the bed. “It’s a great movie. One of my favorites, too. You like horror?”
“Yeah, of course,” you said. “My favorite genre.”
You started browsing through his records. He had a lot of great music. You picked out The Smiths’ debut album. “Can I?”
“Yeah, of course,” he said. He began pulling his camera out of its bag and getting it set up while you lifted the cover of the turntable and placed the record down gently. You turned it on and lowered the arm to the record, the music beginning to fill the room, quiet enough to just fill the background while you talked.
Jonathan turned to you with his camera in hand - a Pentax MX, you recognized. He fiddled with his settings a little, then smiled at you. “Ready to get started?”
“Yeah,” you said, suddenly shy again. “Where do you want me?”
“Um…” He thought for a second, looking around the space. “How about just against the wall here? Just a plain background. I’ll open the curtain.”
You moved to the wall, adjusting your hair as you walked. Jonathan held his camera up to his eye, making sure he was ready to shoot.
He directed you in a series of poses as he took photo after photo. It was extremely awkward - you were always the one behind the camera. You didn’t like being in front of it. But Jonathan was a complete professional, making you feel as comfortable as possible. You started having fun about the time the song switched to Pretty Girls Make Graves.
“Let’s take a little break, then we can switch,” he said after a good 30 minute session, lowering his camera. “You did great.”
As Jonathan put his equipment away, you wandered around his room. You spotted several books on photography on a shelf, and you reached for one, opening it up and flipping through it.
It was filled with black and white photographs, all of them beautiful portraits. You slowly looked through the book, admiring the stunning work, until you reached a section that made you stop, a blush creeping onto your cheeks.
“I don’t know how people have the confidence to do this,” you said, looking down at the tasteful nude photos. Women posing with their breasts fully exposed to the camera, each looking absolutely beautiful.
Jonathan looked over your shoulder. “It’s just art,” he said, a small smile on his face. “If you’re working with a photographer you’re comfortable with…I imagine it’s easy.”
You shook your head. “I can’t imagine.”
It was silent for a moment as you both gazed down at the photos. “Would you…ever want to try?”
Your head snapped around in his direction, your eyes wide. “What?”
“You- you could try it,” he said, suddenly very nervous. “We could try it. If you want to.”
You felt yourself blushing all over your entire body. You slowly closed the book, turning around to look at Jonathan. “You…want to take these kinds of photos…of me?”
“Yeah, why not?” Jonathan said with a shrug and that shy smile. “I’m a photographer. You’re modeling. And…you’re beautiful. You’d do amazing.”
You couldn’t believe what he was suggesting. Jonathan wanted to take nude photos, of you?? But you had to admit to yourself…you were intrigued. You hadn’t had any exciting experiences in your life. It was about time for something to happen.
And did he just call you beautiful?
“O…okay,” you said, trying to find your confidence. “How…do we do this?”
“Well,” Jonathan started. “You can, uh…undress, and I’ll get my camera ready?”
Your hands were shaking as you nodded slowly. “Okay,” you said. “Let’s do this.”
Jonathan turned around, giving you privacy as he fiddled with his camera. You lifted your shirt over your head and dropped it to the ground. Next you undid your jeans, pushing them down your legs and dropping them into a pile with your shirt. You took a deep breath before you reached behind your back and unhooked your bra, dropping it and then sliding your panties down your legs.
Completely naked, you finally fully realized what you had gotten yourself into. You were currently standing naked in Jonathan Byers’ bedroom. You felt your nipples hardening as they were exposed to the cold air. You held a hand across your breasts, as if you weren’t completely naked from the waist down too and about to have nude photos taken. “Okay…I’m ready.”
Jonathan turned around, his eyes going wide when he saw you. His gaze raked over your body before meeting your eyes again. “You- uh- you look- you look great,” he said, pink blush rising on his cheeks.
You couldn’t help but smile. It made you feel better that he was nervous, too. “Thanks,” you said shyly. “Um…I guess we should get started?”
“Oh yeah, yeah,” Jonathan said quickly, snapping out of whatever trance he was in. “Um, you can stand over there?” He pointed to the blank space on his wall.
You moved over there, dropping your hands from your breasts. Jonathan locked eyes with them for just a moment before he was looking at your face again. “Want me to put on some music?”
“Please,” you said, feeling like it would help you get in the zone and be more comfortable.
Jonathan walked to the record player, flipping through his records before pulling one out and placing it on the turntable. David Bowie’s voice carried through the room, and you smiled. “I love Bowie.”
“Me too,” Jonathan said, returning your smile. He moved back in front of you and lifted the camera to his eye. “Okay, just pose like…this?” He said, miming the placement of your arms.
You held your arms behind your head the way he showed you, kneeling down on the carpet. “Like this?”
“Perfect,” he said, snapping a bunch of photos. “You look beautiful.”
You blushed deeply. Having your naked body on full display was a new, terrifying experience, but it was also…exhilarating. You were kind of loving it.
Jonathan hadn’t felt so inspired in ages. Something about your body was perfect for photography, he thought you looked beautiful and you photographed like a real model. He could tell you were shy, but you were doing an amazing job. These photos were going to be some of the best he’d ever taken.
He instructed you through different poses, encouraging you the entire time. The longer the session lasted, the more comfortable you felt. By the time a few songs had passed, you were honestly having a great time.
“How about you sit on the bed for this one?” Jonathan said, gesturing to his bed. You sat down on the edge of it, looking to Jonathan for more instructions. “Just hold your arms like…this.”
You did your best to copy what Jonathan was trying to show you. “Like this?”
“No, kind of like…” He lowered his camera to hang around his neck and moved over towards you. “This.” He reached for your arms and began to pose you, but his fingers accidentally brushed over your hardened nipple. You gasped, jumping slightly at the sensation, and Jonathan looked up at you with wide eyes.
“I’m so sorry!” He said, dropping his hands. “I didn’t mean to-“
“It’s okay,” you said, giggling lightly. “I…didn’t mind.”
Jonathan looked into your eyes, like he was searching for something. His gaze lowered to your lips, then back to your eyes. The next thing you knew, he was leaning in, and you felt his lips press against yours.
Your heart pounded in your chest, your eyes falling closed as you kissed him back. His hand came up to cup the side of your head, his thumb caressing your cheek. He ran his tongue across your bottom lip and you opened, allowing his tongue to explore your mouth completely, dancing with your own.
You couldn’t believe what was happening. You were finally having your first kiss - at 18, but whatever - and it was with Jonathan Byers. While also naked.
Your hand slid beneath his shirt, feeling the skin of his stomach and chest. He pulled back and pulled it over his head before moving back to your lips, kissing you hungrily as his hands roamed your bare skin.
You pulled away, suddenly nervous. Jonathan looked as if you’d just yelled at him, like he felt bad for overstepping your boundaries, which he hadn’t done at all. “Have you…ever done this before?” You asked.
Jonathan looked back at you, this time a slight blush on his cheeks. “Uh, no. Never.”
“Me either,” you admitted, which made Jonathan smile a bit.
“I thought you’d think less of me,” he said. He reached for your hand and held it in his own. “Like I’m the Freak no one wants to go out with.”
“I don’t think that at all,” you assured him. It was your turn to place your hand on his cheek and turn him to look at you. “I think you’re really handsome. And the girls at school are missing out if they overlook you.”
Jonathan smiled again, his cheeks tinged red. “I think you’re the most beautiful girl in school.”
You blushed as well, your whole body heating. “That’s definitely not true.”
“Well, I think it is.” Jonathan caressed your face with the back of his hand, looking into your eyes. “I wish you could see yourself the way I see you. The way I’ve always seen you.”
“You noticed me?” You were surprised, because no one noticed you. You were grateful you weren’t exactly picked on, but it would be nice for your classmates to know you’re there.
“Of course I did,” Jonathan said, like it was obvious. “You’re the best photographer in school. Your photos are always beautiful. You have so much talent, and you’re so pretty and kind.”
You couldn’t believe what he was saying. He had noticed you? And not only noticed you, but felt those things about you like you had about him?
“I think you’re the best photographer in school,” you said shyly, unable to meet his gaze now. “And you’re always kind, even when people are dicks to you. And you’re so handsome it makes my heart beat faster when I see you.”
Jonathan smiled, looking down at his hands. “I can’t believe you feel the same way about me.”
You thought for a moment. You could keep sitting here being all shy, or you could take what you wanted. You could stop sitting on the sidelines of life and do something you want for once. Something he wants, too.
You turned to him, and he turned to you. You moved in, and he did the same. Your lips pressed together again, and you kissed him eagerly this time, your hand resting on his face as he placed his hand on your hip. You gently pushed him down on the bed, and he obeyed. He watched wide eyed as you climbed onto his lap, grinding down on the growing bulge in his pants. He groaned and tightened his grip on your hips.
“God, you…you look so beautiful,” he said breathless, eyes roaming your body hungrily. You grabbed his hands and slowly trailed them up your body, rubbing over your ass and up your sides until you placed them over your tits. His eyes somehow went even wider, a rush of air leaving his lips. “J-Jesus Christ.”
“You can touch me,” you said, bolder than you felt. “You can touch me wherever you want.”
Jonathan let out a shuddering breath and you removed your hands, leaving him there to do as he pleased. He slowly began massaging your tits, thumbs running over your peaked nipples, making you shiver. You rotate your hips as you grinded against his lap, feeling him growing harder and harder beneath you. His expression looked totally fucked out already and you’d barely even touched him.
Your hands slid under his t-shirt again. “Why don’t you take this off?”
He sat up quickly, pulling his shirt off and over his head. You took in the sight of his bare chest, hands roaming the now exposed skin. Then you surprised him by moving farther down his body. He breathed in a gasp of air as your hands began undoing his jeans.
He watched with rapt attention as you got them undone, lifting his hips to help you pull them and his boxers off his body. His cock sprung free, long and hard and leaking precum already. He was bigger than you expected.
“H-oh shit,” he breathed out as you wrapped your hand around his cock, feeling it twitch in your hand. You moved forward and wrapped your lips around his tip, running your tongue around it experimentally. His hips bucked up- “Sorry! Shit, sorry-“ but you didn’t mind. You liked that he was so weak for you, so desperate for more of your touch.
You began bobbing your head up and down his cock, taking more of him every time you lowered your head. His hands were gripped in tight fists in his bed sheets, like he wasn’t sure what to do with them but needed to hold onto something.
You pulled off of him. “You can touch me,” you reminded him, a little giggle in your voice. “I want you to touch me.”
Jonathan just nodded, but when you went back to sucking his cock, he grabbed the back of your hair with one of his hands. He wasn’t shy about his moans - either that or he couldn’t help it - but you were loving it. You had never done this before, but the noises he was making let you know you were doing a good job. An amazing job, apparently.
“Baby,” he moaned, high and desperate. “Feels so good. Oh my god- it’s so good.”
You almost laughed, he was so cute, but you kept it together as you took him deeper and deeper with every pass, running your tongue around his tip every time you reached it.
“Fuck, fuck,” he moaned, his breaths coming in shorter bursts. “I’m gonna cum if you don’t stop right now. And I really…really wanna do more with you.”
You wouldn’t have minded making him cum with your mouth, but doing more sounded way too enticing. You pulled off of him and he watched as a string of saliva connected your lips to his cock, dropping his head back on the pillows with a groan.
Crawling up his body slowly, you placed kisses as you went, making him shudder. When you reached his lips you kissed him again, his hands sliding up your sides.
“God, you are…so hot,” he groaned, hands squeezing the plush skin of your ass before sliding back up your body, enjoying every inch of you.
“So are you,” you hummed, kissing his neck, biting and sucking when you found the spot that made him moan. Then, to your surprise, he grabbed you and flipped you both so he was on top.
He started kissing your neck, making you moan beneath him as he left purple hickies on your skin. You felt his hard cock pressed up against your core, and he pulled back, looking at you with pleading eyes that contradicted his next words.
“Are you sure you want to do this?” He asked, his voice raspy. It was obvious he very much did. “We don’t have to. If you want to stop now, we can.”
“I don’t want to stop,” you said quickly. “I…want to keep going. Do you have a condom?”
“Shit,” he hissed. “No. This isn’t, uh, something I do often.”
You giggled. “It’s okay. We can still do it. Just, uh…pull out?”
Jonathan nodded vigorously. “I can do that.”
He reached down between your bodies, wrapping his hand around his cock as he dragged the head between your folds, gathering your slick on him. Then he was pressing at your entrance, gaze darting back up to look into your eyes.
“Let me know if you don’t like it, okay?” He said. “I can stop any time. We don’t have to do this.”
“Jonathan,” you said with a small laugh. “It’s okay. Just do it.”
He nodded, then looked back down to where you were connected as he slowly began pushing inside. It stung at first, the intrusion unfamiliar and painful the farther he filled you, but it eased into a kind of pleasure before long. You held onto his shoulders tightly.
Jonathan groaned when he bottomed out inside of you, body shuddering from the sheer pleasure of being buried inside your tight, wet walls. It felt amazing for him, better than his hand, better than what he dreamed sex would be like. You were perfect, like your body was made for him, made to take him.
“Oh my god, Jonathan,” you moaned. “Feels so good. You’re so big. Please move, need you to fuck me.”
He moaned, hand gripping tightly in the bed sheets again. “Fuck, if you say things like that I’m gonna cum faster than I want to.”
He pulled back out slowly before rolling his hips back into you. It felt even better that time, a high whine coming from your lips. Reassured seeing that you were enjoying it, he set a steady pace, thrusting into you quickly. He buried his face in your neck, moaning as he truly began to fuck you.
“God, this is…fuck, feels so good. You feel so fucking good. Shit, I can’t-“ He cut himself off with another moan, high and whiney and so fucking hot.
You tangled your fingers in his hair, pulling lightly at his dark brown locks. You wrapped your legs around his waist, guiding him to fuck you faster, which had him moaning your name over and over again.
“Jonathan,” you moaned, back arching off the bed. “Please, I-“
Jonathan reached between your bodies, fingers beginning to rub at your clit. He had the idea, but didn’t exactly know what he was doing.
“Rub in circles,” you told him, although what he was doing didn’t feel bad. He did as you instructed, rubbing quick tight circles on the sensitive bud. “Fuck, yeah, just like that. Just like that.”
The combined feeling of his cock deep inside you and his fingers working against your clit had a coil tightening in your belly, your peak coming faster and faster. “Jon, I’m-“
Your orgasm crashed into you, having you seeing stars as your back arched off the bed, pussy clenching around him as you called his name again and again. “Jonathan! Oh my god, Jonathan-“
It sent Jon over the edge too, crying out loudly as he quickly pulled out and pumped his cock a couple times as he shot his load all over your chest, stomach and thighs. It was so much, and you had never seen a guy cum before. You watched him with wide eyes, the sight turning you on all over again.
You both caught your breath, trying to calm down after all that. Jonathan reached for a dirty shirt on the floor and cleaned you off, then laid down on his bed next to you.
“That was absolutely incredible,” he breathed, wrapping an arm around you. “You were incredible.”
“That was amazing,” you agreed. He leaned over and pulled you into a passionate kiss.
“Be my girlfriend,” he said, thumb rubbing circles on your hip.
You raised your eyebrows. “Really? You mean it?”
“Of course I do,” he laughed. “Haven’t you realized how into you I am? Especially after all this?”
You blushed, hiding your face in his chest. “Yes. Of course I’ll be your girlfriend.”
The two of you cuddled in bed for a while longer, until you looked over at his alarm clock and saw the time. “Oh god. I’m gonna be late for curfew.”
Jonathan looked over at the time, too. “Oh, wow. I didn’t realize it had gotten so late. Do you want me to give you a ride home?” He asked. “We can, uh, do your part of the project tomorrow,” he added, cheeks tinged red.
“Okay,” you agreed, smiling and giving him a kiss. “Sounds good to me.”
You both got dressed, trying to look as if you hadn’t done what you had just done. You left his room and headed down the hall - seeing Jonathan’s mom, Joyce, sitting in the living room.
She smiled at you awkwardly. “Hi, so nice to meet you.”
You took her hand in yours, blushing furiously as Jonathan avoided eye contact with his mother. “Nice to meet you, too,” you said, giving her your name.
As you and Jonathan walked out hand in hand, he turned to you. “She definitely knew what we did.”
“Oh yeah, definitely.”

With paper bags with handles, you can easily transport your goodies and add a practical yet stylish element to your party favors. Plus, paper bags are eco-friendly, making them the perfect choice for environmentally conscious hosts.
Crafting the Perfect Party Bag: Tips and Tricks
Creating the ultimate party bag doesn't have to be complicated. Start by selecting your paper bags – choose a size and style that suits your theme and budget. If you're hosting a birthday bash, consider personalized paper party bags adorned with the guest of honor's name and age. For a sophisticated soirée, opt for black wrapping paper bags accented with metallic ribbon or embellishments. Once you have your bags, it's time to fill them with goodies! Think beyond candy and trinkets – consider including DIY crafts, homemade treats, or themed knick-knacks to delight your guests.
Elevating the Experience: Paper Party Bags with Handles
While paper bags are practical on their own, adding handles takes them to the next level. Paper party bags with handles not only make it easier for guests to carry their goodies home, but they also add a touch of elegance and sophistication to your party favors. Choose from a variety of handle styles – from twisted paper handles to sleek ribbon handles – to complement your theme and aesthetic. With handles, your paper party bags with handles become more than just containers – they become part of the party experience, leaving a lasting impression on your guests.
Thinking Outside the Bag: Creative Party Favor Ideas
When it comes to party favors, the sky's the limit! Get creative with your goodies and think outside the bag. Consider incorporating themed items that tie into your party theme – from miniature Chinese lanterns for a lantern festival-inspired soirée to canvas shopping bags filled with beach essentials for a summer luau. Personalize your party favors with handwritten notes, custom stickers, or printed tags to add a special touch. Remember, it's the thought and effort you put into your gift bag that will truly make them stand out.
White Paper Bags: Elegance Personified
For a touch of sophistication, white paper bags present a clean and elegant alternative. They exude a sense of luxury and are ideal for presenting gifts, packaging merchandise, or creating elegant party favors. White paper bags come in a variety of sizes, from small and delicate to large and roomy, making them suitable for everything from a single piece of jewelry to a collection of boutique items. Often made from virgin paper, some boast a smooth, glossy finish that further enhances their high-end feel. However, many manufacturers offer recycled white paper bags, merging elegance with eco-consciousness.
Beyond Brown and White: A Rainbow of Paper Bag Options
The world of paper bags extends far beyond the classic brown and white. Dive into a spectrum of vibrant colors and discover a whole new way to express yourself! Hot pink bags add a burst of fun to birthday parties, while dramatic black wrapping paper creates a sophisticated presentation for special gifts. Whether you need a specific color to match a theme or simply want to add a pop of personality, there's a colored bag paper out there to make a statement. Some manufacturers even offer customizable printing options, allowing you to add logos, messages, or even photos onto the bag itself.
A World of Functionality: Paper Bags with Handles
Let's not forget the all-important handle! Paper bags with handles provide a convenient and comfortable way to carry your purchases, gifts, or party favors. Twist handles, often found on brown paper bags, offer a simple yet secure way to transport your goods. Die-cut handles, prevalent in white and colorful paper bags with handles, add a touch of style while maintaining functionality. For a truly luxurious feel, some bags even feature fabric handles that elevate the overall look and feel.
Conclusion
In conclusion, throwing a memorable party on a budget is entirely possible with the right mindset and resources. By harnessing the versatility of paper bags and getting creative with your party favors, you can treat your guests to a fun and affordable experience they won't soon forget. Whether you're hosting a birthday bash, a bridal shower, or a backyard barbecue, paper bag goodie bags are the perfect way to thank your guests for joining the celebration. Gyomei x Abused Cat Hybrid Reader

It was the day before Gyomei Himejima’s birthday. Tengen, Kyojuro, Kanae, Sanemi, Iguro, Kyogai, Tomioka, Goto and Haganezuka, Gyomei’s coworkers, were coming up with a plan to celebrate his birthday. Tengen already agreed to have the party at his house and that his wives would cook. Kyogai was in charge of music, Haganezuka would help out in the kitchen, Tomioka would keep Gyomei busy and bring him to Tengen’s house and Goto would get the cake.
The big issue was what to get the blind, cat loving teacher. As they were discussing and arguing over what to get him, Kyojuro got an idea. “I know! Let’s get Himejima a cat Hybrid!” Kyojuro shouted. “Do you even know where to get one, they’re pretty rare” Iguro asked. “I do, although it’s mostly just animals, I know that they also house hybrids that need homes” Tomioka informed. “I’ll give you guys the address to the facility” he said as he wrote down the name and address before handing it to Kanae.
“Splendid, let’s go.” Kanae cheered as she and the others left to go to the facility. When they got to the facility, they entered and asked the worker lady if they had any cat hybrids. The lady led them towards the back where they house the hybrids. “We do, although we don’t have very many, may I ask which of you is looking for one?” She asked. “The hybrid is for our friend, we’re surprising him with one for his birthday” Tengen informed.
The lady proceeded to lead them to you. You were a Ragdoll/Munchkin cat hybrid. You had been abused by your original owner and rescued, now you sit here waiting down the days til your put down. You have a history of attacking people who have tried to adopt you, you have two strikes already on your record, two more and you’ll be humanely euthanized. You’re rather untrusting of people especially males, and you tend to stay in your cat form.
“I’m afraid we only have the one, although they are rather skittish and unfriendly, they were rescued from their abusive owner so they’re rather violent” They peered inside at you, seeing your fluffy fur and slightly stubby legs, you were adorable and Gyomei was absolutely going to love you. “They’re absolutely perfect, don’t you guys think so, Gyomei will absolutely love them.” Kanae said. The others agreed. “We’ll take ‘em” Tengen said as he left with the lady to sign the papers in Gyomei’s name.
Sanemi entered the small kennel and grabbed you gently by the scruff and put you in a cat carrier all too quickly. You couldn’t even put up a fight. You hissed at him and puffed up your fur as you tried to make yourself as small as possible. As they left, Kanae left to get you some human clothes, while Kyojuro and Iguro left to get you a few other necessities.
Later, at Tengen’s house, the party began and Tomioka texted that he and Gyomei were on their way there. When Gyomei entered the house, they all surprised him and the party began. After eating and drinking and having cake, it was time for presents. They had gotten him cat themed stuff like cat erasers, cat shaped sticky notes, a coffee mug with cats on it, etc. after opening up the other gifts, Tengen came out of his bedroom with the cat carrier you were in.
When Tengen put the cat carrier in Gyomei’s lap you hissed at Tengen, surprising Gyomei. “What is this, is this what I think it is?” Gyomei asked. The others then spilled and told Gyomei about you and your past as well as your two strikes, hearing that you were abused, he cried and promised you that he would never hurt you. Kanae came over and gave Gyomei the stuff for you in a bag. “This bag contains stuff for y/n, that’s their name. It has clothes, toiletries and other necessities.” Kanae explained. With tears in his eyes Gyomei profusely thanked his colleagues.
Sensing your discomfort, Gyomei explained that he wanted to leave, to which his colleagues understood. Gyomei gathered all of the stuff and once again profusely thanked everyone before carefully picking up the cat carrier and heading out the door. As he walked home, he began to talk to you. “Y/n, I’m terribly sorry for how you have previously suffered and I promise that you have absolutely nothing to fear from me. I simply want for us to be able to live comfortably amongst each other. I promise I will never hurt you and I hope that I can provide a better life for you” Gyomei stated as he continued his walk.
Once he got home he unlocked his door and took off his shoes before walking into the living room and setting down your carrier by the couch. He then opened the door and set the bag of stuff for you down on the couch. “I’m sorry but I’m afraid I wasn’t expecting for you to come home with me so you’ll have to sleep on the couch for tonight but tomorrow I’ll help you get settled in and get you a proper bed. I’m going to leave some food out for you, feel free to help yourself. I have work tomorrow so I’ll be heading to bed here very soon” Gyomei told you as he walked into his kitchen and began putting some leftovers together for you and heating them up.
After heating up your food and leaving it out for you, Gyomei left the kitchen and entered his bedroom for the night and bid you goodnight. After an hour, you slowly exit the cat carrier and transformed into your human form. You ate the food that Gyomei left out for you and you put some clothes on that were in the bag. Since you see perfectly in the dark, you explored your new home and wondered how a blind man can get around so easily. After a bit of exploring, you pulled a blanket out of the bag and walked over to a corner before making a little nest and curling up then falling asleep. The next morning when Gyomei woke up he got ready to teach and made you both breakfast and lunch.
“I’ve made breakfast for you as well as lunch, I’ll put them in the fridge for you. If you’re hungry between them feel free to eat whatever you find. I have to go to work now, I work at a school so I won’t be home until 6 o’clock. Feel free to unpack the bag of stuff for you, tonight when I get home we can either go out and buy or order what else you need online. Goodbye” Gyomei informed you as he got ready and left for work. After he left you got up and ate breakfast before going through the bag of stuff for you. You found a couple outfits, some underwear, toiletries like a toothbrush, toothpaste, shampoo and conditioner as well as a brush for your fur. In the bag was also a collar and leash as well as a few cat toys.
After getting everything out, you decided to take a shower and get yourself all cleaned up while you had the chance. You didn’t expect to stay here for very long so you didn’t really bother with putting anything away but you made sure not to move anything around in case Gyomei wouldn’t be able to find it. After your shower you dried off using his towel, slowly inhaling the scent of the man. He smelled really good and you hated to admit it even to yourself.
As time passed you ate your lunch and took a nap until Gyomei got home. He took his shoes off and greeted you. “Good evening y/n, I hope you weren’t too lonely while I was gone. I ordered a cat tree with a scratching post and it should be here in a few days. I hope you enjoy it.” He smiled as he informed you. He walked into the kitchen and began making dinner for the both of you, you waited until he went to bed to eat and thus this became your habit.
Days like this pass as you have very few interactions with Gyomei. To your surprise, Gyomei has yet to get upset with you or force you to interact with him. When he realized that you had yet to put anything away from the bag, he cried. You found out that he cries very easily. Despite his huge frame, the man is actually very gentle and kind. When the cat tree came, he struggled with putting it together, you eventually sat beside him and helped him put it together. You figured it was the least you could do. Despite you being right next to him, Gyomei made no attempts to pet you, which you appreciated.
One night, after Gyomei went to bed, you waited and slowly crept into his room and jumped onto his bed in your cat form. You carefully approached the sleeping man and sniffed him before climbing onto his chest and nuzzling into him. After a lot of time spent near the man, you slowly became comfortable with being around him. Deciding to cuddle up to the man, you purred as you curled up to his chest and fell asleep, unaware that Gyomei was awake the entire time. In the morning, you get up before Gyomei and leave his room and get comfortable in your cat tree.
That day, when Gyomei got home early from work, he sat on the couch and relaxed. Sensing how tired he was, you slowly approached him in your cat form and jumped onto the couch, before walking up to him and rubbing yourself against his arm. You meow at him and crawl onto his lap and begin kneading the fabric of his shirt with your paws, careful not to ruin it. With tears in his eyes Gyomei smiles at you as he slowly reaches up to pet you between the ears. You purr and lean into his pets as he smiles and chuckles. “Such a sweet little kitten, thank you y/n” you licked his tears away as he cried. You then transformed into your human form and stretched out as you snuggled into the large man. You and Gyomei cuddled together that night and thus began the relationship between you and Gyomei.

MORE DAD!CHRIS

HAPPY BIRTHDAY!
𝐩𝐚𝐢𝐫𝐢𝐧𝐠: dad!chris x reader
𝐬𝐮𝐦𝐦𝐚𝐫𝐲: you were sad when you had to work on your birthday, and chris knew you’d be stressed when you came home. so, he teamed up with your son to make a rememberable present.
𝐰𝐚𝐫𝐧𝐢𝐧𝐠𝐬: FLUFFY, that’s it :)
𝐰𝐨𝐫𝐝 𝐜𝐨𝐮𝐧𝐭: 918
𝐚𝐮𝐭𝐡𝐨𝐫'𝐬 𝐧𝐨𝐭𝐞: dad chris has my heart frfr.
you were bummed, to say the least when you got called into work on your birthday, and there was no way to call out.
chris insisted you go and said it was fine to watch the little one by himself for a few hours.
the little one in question is strapped into the baby carrier on chris’ front as he reads the box in his hand. he neatly has bowls and measuring cups out on the counter, all he needs now is the ingredients. both of them are in matching pajamas with dinosaurs on them. chris established these matching sets when atticus was born five months ago, and you loved the idea.
that’s when you knew he’d be a great dad.
“half a cup oil, one cup water, and three eggs. think we can handle it, buddy?” chris looks at your son and kisses him on the head. he purposely bounces to the cabinet and refrigerator to grab the supplies as atticus giggles at his movements.
he then grabs one of the measuring cups and fills it with water, placing it back with the other ingredients. “set the oven to 350°.” chris reads aloud, turning to face the stove.
“no touch,” he says, holding your son’s hands with one of his and using the other to press the buttons to the right temperature.
this results in atticus gripping onto chris’ pointer finger and not letting go. he doesn’t mind though, and continues reading off of the box. “beat cake mix, water, oil, and eggs in bowl… blah blah blah.”
he grabs the kitchen scissors, making sure he’s cutting far away from the child and cutting open the cake mix powder. he grabs the bowl, inching it closer. “want to put it in, buddy?” he asks, holding the bottom of the bag as atticus grabs the top of it.
all is going well until they drop the bag into the bowl, the mix that was already in making a mess on chris’s hands and atticus’ face. the baby laughs as chris picks up the pouch and finishes pouring it in. “oh, man.” chris sighs, taking his hand and rubbing the powder off of the child’s face.
“water—” he starts, but then a little hand accidentally knocks it over and spills it on the counter. he slowly looks at his father with no emotion, but chris smiles. “that’s okay. let’s clean up our mess!”
as in “our”, it’s chris using a paper towel while the little rascal just throws the piece he gave him onto the liquid to seem like he’s helping.
luckily the rest goes without a mess, and then the oven dings. chris wants atticus to be involved, so he helps him pour the batter into the circle-shaped pan (half of it ends up on the counter.)
he eventually takes the baby carrier off to not get him so close to the oven, atticus is now on his hip as he closes the oven and puts on a thirty-four-minute timer.
once the cake is cooled, chris puts the infant into his high chair with the cake in front of him. instead of bowls and measuring cups, icing, and sprinkles are on the counter. he knew what he was going to say next was a bad idea, but it was for a special occasion.
chris opens the icing and bottles. “make it pretty for mommy.” he says, giving your son free will to decorate the cake.
his attention span only lasted about ten minutes, but he got a few gallops of icing and sprinkles on. chris did help him write a message, but the rest was all from your little boy. atticus claps as chris looks at the cake, but then sighs when he looks at the messy counter of powder, batter, icing, and sprinkles. “your mother is going kill me.”
rubbing your eyes, you enter the front door of your house, pausing in place as you look at the kitchen. there was an attempt to clean up, but it was a mediocre job. “chris?” you call out, but there’s no answer. a certain object catches your eye and you walk over to it, smiling softly at the source that made the kitchen a disaster.
there was barely any icing on it, but you didn’t care. there were spots where there were a ton of sprinkles and no sprinkles at all. sloppy pink handwriting was written in the center of the cake, but you understood the message.
happy birthday mommy!
we love you ♡
you wipe the tears threatening to spill out of your eyes as you speed walk to the living room, seeing the two boys lying on the couch. the smaller one is asleep on your boyfriend’s chest, and the other is staring at the TV that’s muted. chris’s hand rubs on atticus’ back.
you walk in front of him, and he lazily smiles at you. you can tell he’s tired, but he’s fighting it. “he made you a cake.” chris mumbles, fluttering his eyes closed. you pick up your son gently as to not wake him, and start swaying from side to side when he squirms for a moment. “do you like it?” chris asks.
“i love it.” you say, a tear spilling from your eye. “it’s my favorite cake in the whole wide world.”
you kiss chris on the forehead and atticus on the cheek, thinking about how lucky you are. these are your two boys, and you never loved anything more in your life.
