Kurt Wagner and his mother, Mystique, find themselves hunted down by the new Hounds of Orchis. These Hounds are the mutants (and mutates like Cloak and Dagger) who are captured and brainwashed into Hounds by Director Vulture who used poor Warlock as a battery and an unwilling "puppet master" control them with Technarch lines.

The X-Men and X-Factor are fighting the MLF (Mutant Liberation Front). Gambit is fighting Wildside but he gets knocked out. In turn, Quicksilver clobbers Wildside from behind. While gloating over his victory, Quicksilver get his leg cut by Reaper who cripples him with a scythe. As Reaper tries to choose which injured mutant he wants to decapitate, Havok blasts him from behind, saving Gambit and Quicksilver.

The main act on the cover, but we don't see him till the verrrrry end of the book, classic. Anyway, this is Reignfire... it's hard to talk about him without spoilers, but he is here fathering up former members of the MLF with the plan to go kidnap Gyrich

Ugh the Reignfire plot is... really not one of my favorites... I'm not going to spoil it here, but the entire trope that is is banking on almost NEVER works unless the writer is insanely good and Fabian absolutely does not pull it off here...

Kinda wild that Cable feels this way about Rusty when he barely knew the kid, he had long been out of the New Mutants and X-Factor when Cable even met him the first time...

Someone tipped off X-Factor that the MLF was heading toward Dr. Tucker... and there is some heavy foreshadowing here... specially if you know everyone’s real names...

Reaper loses a leg, they really are losing bit and pieces from their escaped through Zero, they really should maybe start thinking of other escape methods...

Wildside is just like most of the other “wild” characters we have a ton of at this point, and real easy to push over to the edge, and it takes very little to get him to slash him open the doctor... unfortunately for them they don’t get his research before doing this...

Anyway, they are going to go out of their way to let us know this is a more X-treme team than the one that came before, a real team for the 90s ya know?
