#SUMKAD Metro Manila! Indigenous Peoples Rights Organizations and Advocates Host Manila Leg Celebration of 39th Peoples' Cordillera Day on April 23, 2023

Cordillera Peoples Alliance will hold celebrations of the 39th Peoples’ Cordillera Day from April 22-28 in Baguio City, Benguet, Mt. Province, Kalinga, and Metro Manila guided by the Central theme “Sumkad para iti daga, biag ken dayaw!” (Rise and defend land, life, and honor!). This will be the first Peoples’ Cordillera Day to happen under another Marcos administration since its Macli-ing Memorial beginnings in 1981.

The celebration owes its history to the Anti-Chico Dams resistance under the Marcos Dictatorship. At the height of the struggle on April 24, 1980, Kalinga pangat Macli-ing Dulag was assassinated by the military. This sparked the Macli-ing Memorials from 1981-1984, and eventually, the Cordillera Day in 1985 following the establishment of the Cordillera Peoples Alliance on June 1984. Since then, our Cordillera Day has been an expression of a peoples’ movement for freedom, democracy, and self-determination.

Spanning for almost four decades now, the celebration finds itself in another Marcos administration and in a similar situation where ancestral lands are threatened by huge mining and energy projects coupled with intense militarization and human rights violations. However, this time around, we are also challenged with the rampant distortion of history and collective memory. It is thus the call of our times to revisit the gains and lessons of the past and collectively call for “Sumkad!” while drawing inspiration from our heroes, martyrs, and fellow Cordillera peoples, all for the continuation of a struggle that started decades, even centuries, ago.

Just got a message from his wife. URTI case. Sana hindi ko siya nahawaan. HUHUHUHUHU. So far, clear lungs, negative COVID, negative dengue and is already under meds. So, let's see. UGH. ER is full so they had to go back home which is also better. Fever is at bay but sleep is tough. Kaya niya 'yan. Kayanin niya. Oh, Q4! You're indeed a buzzer beater. What got me in this video is that: caregivers need to take care of themselves. GUILTY AS CHARGED.

Been stretching because I noticed that even when I'm getting massages, the pain is still there. I think that I'd have to go to the PT doctor soon and will bring dad with me. And then, I was hit by Mel Robbins and Dr. Gabrielle Lyon. Very curious, indeed. I've been losing the weight bit by bit, however, at 37, my body is not the same as before. LOL. For one, my arms and back usually don't flop around. Hahahaha. Kahit hindi ko sila i-exercise. I also noticed that my waist is getting slimmer but my paunch is just all over the place. Back then, if I cut back on carbs, it shrinks. LOL. I know that I need to exercise but this time around, while boxing and biking are really good options, I feel frailer. Boxing feeling ko ang lutong na ng mga buto at weak ng muscles ko. Hahahahaha. So, eto pala 'yun... protein and amino acids. Dammmnnnn.

This actually answers my long-standing question about why mom seems to have a really balanced diet and a healthy lifestyle, however she fell to GBS. Mom does not like meat in general and eats tiny portions. Tubig lang madalas to be honest saka ma-gulay and prutas siya. Plus isda kaso hindi naman laging may isda sa bahay. Side note: I love sapsap talaga na pangat sa kamatis or kamias. Kahit every week or every other day ko siya kainin, I'm fine.

So, here I am looking at ways na strength training na hindi need ng lifting weights. Katamad e. Let's start small and let's go all out on slow growth. EMS. Sa 777 workout muna tayo. Also, will be walking around BGC on Mondays na talaga. Will bring aesthetic clothes ke umulan or umaraw. Let's do this! Magaya na rin ako ng chixx para mas ganado. LOL. CHZ. Sana rin makapag-spend time na ako sa Batulao super soon. Iyak sa akala mong patag pero uphill pala. Can't wait to get out of Manila on weekdays and weekends talaga. HIHIHIHIHIHI. Baisakhi

“In this fair of happiness, where no one stands alone.

Raise hands to rock with the tune, and celebrate the occasion of harvesting that brings fortune.”

Baisakhi, also pronounced as Vaisakhi, is a celebration of harvesting festival mainly celebrated by the Sikhs. From the day of Baisakhi, the Hindu New Year, that is majorly known as Vikram Samvat also starts. The Baisakhi festival is celebrated in many other states of India with different festive name but with same happiness and celebration. Baisakhi is celebrated on the 13th or the 14th in the month of April. The highly adopted ritual to celebrate Baisakhi is to take dip in the holy rivers such as Ganga, and then give Daan to the needy people according to one’s wealth.

In the year 1699, on Baisakhi, Shri Guru Gobind Singh established the Khalsa that denote the Sikh community, where he asked people to come forward and sacrifice their life the Lord and the power they pray to, soon, five people volunteered and then from that time onwards they are respected and denoted as Panj Piaras. It was on the day of Baisakhi in the year 1919 when the Jallianwala Bagh attack happened under the notified action of acting Brigadier-General Reginald Dyer, where hundreds of people died and thousands were left injured, who were gathered at the place for a meet-up.

Baisakhi’s celebration

The celebration of Baisakhi contains the actual reason of people’s happiness as the Sikhs welcomes this festival by visiting the Gurdwaras doing the first thing in the morning, where they go all dressed up in fancy and colorful clothes. Followed by the prayers and then the distribution of food happens, where people sits in Pangat to enjoy the food named as Langar and then the eatery distributes the Kada Prasad. Later in the evenings are filled with the holy music of Kirtan and then by the time of night, the surrounding lightens up with the folk music of Punjab and the famously known dance form Bhangra.
