It was only a matter of time that the young noble would find herself courting the world outside of the Elysian Sojourn, beyond its luxurious garden. She had spent nearly all of her life closed off and guarded behind walls or armored escorts. No matter how opulent or comfortable the space that housed her, she yearned to breathe air, to visit markets, to cast her eyes on inspiring sites she'd not seen before, and most of all dip her toes in the sea again. She wanted to live life.
Her mother would not cage her in this land; in fact she encouraged her freedom, and Serenas was grateful to be allowed that autonomy. But as the spirited Seon drew her down on his mists from the mountain with something of an awkward smile, she knew her mother had not completely 'let her off the hook'. She tried not to place blame on her mother's caution as the young Mistweaver bounded into a few short preperations. It was sign that Lady Shadowsun cared, after all.
The Pandaran spread his hands wide, and with a booming impersonation that made the girl stand straight up on her toes, greeted her: "Bal'a dash, malanore!!! I'll be your tour guide for today, Miss Serra!"
"Ohh. Oh good!" Serra replied, trying to gradually match some of the friendly energy. She wasn't expecting the perfect Thalassian accent from the Pandaren, or his energy, but it drew the softest of giggles from her. "I am honored."
"You ready to take this show on the road?!" the vivant continued with the same unphased energy as he hefted a knapsack onto his shoulders.
"Yes," she started with a simple affirmation, then gave over sunnier smile. "Very!"
With a circling motion of his hands, the young Mistweaver captured her again in a gentle wash of misty magic, as he had done before for her and others he helped to transport. One fuzzy paw clenched, and shot into the air in a fistpump. "For the Glory of the Sunwell!"
Serenas laughed very weakly, a measure embarrassed as the mists sent her down the mountainside. She hoped there would be much less...'sunwelling'. She'd had more than enough of that in her life.
At first, she was allowed to take it 'slow', traveling down to the mountain's edge where the long river cut across below. She took her small delight in Seon's interest in fishing; it had been too long since she'd cast her own line. He'd shown her how to bait a trap as the Anglers did it in the village across the river, and told her tales of the dancing water spirits that might come to play, if she were lucky. A week of visits at the river filled with fishing and helping to share their bounty with what neighbors they could was satisfying. But Serenas had not glimpsed a single water spirit that Seon had filled her imagination with. And as the sun set on another evening full of fishing, the girl's eagerness fell short, trying quiet smiles for the Mistweaver that did not indicate her dip of disappointment.
But Seon read her quiet, and knew it was time for a change of pace. The light returned so easily to the young lady's eyes when she was told he would take her to the closest point where the ocean lapped the shore. (With permission from her lady mother, she guessed. Probably.) There, the Mistweaver informed quite excitedly, she might actually have better luck to spot a colorful spirit.
Pandaria's shores were a wonder to behold, bearing a different hue than anything she ever had seen curb the shores of Quel'thalas. It was a testament to how much she had yet to see. Seon regaled her with the tale of Shen'zin and the Wandering Isle; she felt a moment dumbstruck at the idea of living for generations on the back of a massive turtle, of all things, but it held her at fascination. As the sun would set on the shoreline, she cursed beneath her breath as she took in its resplendence. She'd needed to bring her journal on the next day's visit. There were always words to be written here.
On her second day to the ocean's shore, she made sure to bring jars to collect shells and lovely pebbles to invite a little bit of the oceanside to her little room at the Sojourn. It was not a day for fishing, but writing, as she had when she was a child on Eversong's spring shores, working words together. And as the sun set again, it had her full attention as it shifted the colors of the skies, kissing the horizon until it could no longer.
And for the first time on the shore, she could feel herself grow a touch heartsick - not necessarily for the land or House of her birth, but the people that she wished could see this with her. Memory inevitably coalesced, envisioning her brother in that moment chasing the much smaller girl she'd been along past shores in a fit of laughter. Laughter that hadn't turned so cold, bitter. The memory bled away into dusky evening as Seon came for her in a panic, as she had been out long past nightfall, past a time agreed. But there was little harm done. Only water, 'under the bridge.'
On the 3rd day of her visit to the shoreline, she stalked the ocean waves and laughed as Seon kicked up the water to spray her well and good - he'd made sure to inform her she needed to 'dress for the weather', and hadn't made a ruin of one of her nicer dresses as an effet. As the sun began to set, she readied herself on the same slant of pourous rock she had the evening before to watch. However, her hand connected with something that tinked, and rolled down into the sand. On recovery, she realized she had found an empty bottle, corked, with what seemed to be a folded letter tucked inside. Agrin, she set the mysterious bottle carefully on the heap of other little treasures she'd found littering the shoreline. She'd open it carefully with the proper tools, hopefully in an effort to preserve another gift of the sea.

Celebrating the release of the Mists of Pandaria remix, here's one of the characters I made for it, in an entirely reasonable variant of the shado-pan outfit that I suspect Jorunna had a hand in designing...
