A Prayer for God’s Blessings on Families, Nations, and the World, Day 81, China
Dear Heavenly Father, Thank you for today. Thank you for what you do for me each and every day and for that which I fail to notice. Thank you for taking care of my family, friends, and acquaintances. I ask that you shield and protect them and guide them in this life. Bring them safely home to you. Let them know that you are there for them. Never let me forget your presence in my life and guide…

The population of giant pandas in the wild has nearly doubled as China steps up its conservation efforts.
China’s National Forestry and Grassland Administration said on Jan 25 there are now around 1,900 pandas in the wild from some 1,100 in the 1980s.
This has been due to China’s efforts to protect the species, considered a national treasure, said Mr Zhang Yue, an official with the administration.
The Giant Panda National Park was established in October 2021, covering a total area of over 22,000 sq km and providing a home to around 72 per cent of the wild giant panda population.
Protected areas for giant pandas have grown from 1.39 million ha to 2.58 million ha since 2012.
The International Union for Conservation of Nature has adjusted the status of giant pandas from “endangered” to “vulnerable”.
“This indicates that China’s giant panda conservation efforts have been recognised by the international wildlife conservation community,” Mr Zhang said.
The global captive population of giant pandas, meanwhile, has now reached 728, with 46 pandas successfully bred in captivity in 2023.
The genetic diversity of captive giant pandas has also improved. The current captive population of giant pandas can maintain 90 per cent genetic diversity for up to 200 years.
As for giant pandas living abroad, Mr Zhang said China has organised field inspections and assessments of 23 overseas cooperation institutions in 19 countries since 2023.
“The cooperation institutions generally meet the requirements in terms of venue construction, feeding and nursing, and disease prevention and control measures,” Mr Zhang said, adding that pandas living abroad are generally “in good health”.
He said China will further improve the international cooperation management mechanism for giant pandas, carry out regular daily health monitoring and field inspection and assessment, and continue to strengthen cooperation with international partners for the protection of endangered species and biodiversity.

got mad about the portrayal of adoption in media again. 10 dead 50 injured
#adoption on tv falls into three catagories.#1: white couple saves minority or disabled child from evil poverty parents#2. adoptive parents either outright stole OR never told baby they are adopted. baby reunites with birth parents and it goes super well#baby now has two loving families or abandons adopted family wholesale for the '''''''real''''' family#3. baby is afopted and obsessed with finding birth family for extremely nebulous reasons. either succeeds and follows path of scenario 2 or#fails and learns that it doesnt matter where you come from only where you are#now. im not daying these dont happen in real life.#but no one ever wants to talk abt the american white adoption infustry's evils when talking abt yhe evils in adoption. espcially with indig#children and imported children/fashionable adoption.#and on the positive side of these stories you never ever see a character just. Be Adopted. And It's Not A Big Deal.#like. as someone who was adopted. and very happy with my family deapite the fact that theyre stupid and conservative. i wouldnt trade them#for the world. because theyre my family. you know? i have no interest in meeting my birth parents betond wanting some medical history#questions answered and to know if i have siblings. and i know its not like that for everyone! but i would just love to see more then the#stupidest shit ever seen. you know.#off the top of my head the only portrayals of adoption that dont make me want to kill myself are like. po from kung fu panda and ruby#sunday from doctor who. that's pretty bad man. and BOTH of them atill fall within the three given catagories. WHATEVERRRRRR#anyway. sorry. induanted with elf ij the christmas season i hate that fucking movie so bad 😭#mi#also to be clear. i dont think its like. a moral failing to like elf#im just a hater. and also its just a yearly and very strong reminder of how fucking irritating j find all this

A persons understanding of an animal has always been affected by the way that animal is labeled, as either good or evil. This will determine whether or not that animal is worthy for conservation.
This is a long lasting effect of how these animals are often presented in media. Some nature documentaries even fall into this bias.
People still think snakes, hyenas, sharks, vultures, wasps, etc. are the villains of the animal kingdom and who wants to save the villain when the good guy (pandas) is right there and needs our help.

Photo by @amivitale. Peek-a-boo! Twelve year old mother giant panda, Si Xue tries to hide behind a tree at the Wolong China Conservation & Research Center for the Giant Panda in Sichuan Province, China. Because of their low-energy diet, pandas avoid stressful situations and exertion. They are elusive and solitary creatures in the wild. It’s hard to imagine, but these animals were once as mythical and elusive as Bigfoot. They have been around for millions of years, but were only made known to the western world within the last century. The first panda was captured alive only in 1936. By breeding and releasing pandas, augmenting existing populations and protecting habitat, they are on their way to successfully saving their most famous ambassador and in the process putting the wild back into an icon. My book, Panda Love, is sold out but one of my images, Pandas Gone Wild, is currently available in the @vital.impacts Winter Collection. The profits will help support the next generation of environmental storytellers too. Daily Nature Fun Facts #10
Did you know?
For a long time, Giant Panda populations have been struggling in the wild, and though captive breeding populations were established, it was discovered that breeding pandas is not as simple as one would think. One big reason for this is that female pandas only go into estrus for 2-3 days per year, and this can happen anytime between March and May. If that time slot is missed for any reason, then the female is unable to mate for another year.
Thankfully, captive breeding methods have improved over time, and Giant Pandas have been making a comeback in the wild, with their IUCN status being changed from Endangered to Vulnerable.
