A quote and thoughts regarding Shen Yuan's opinions on Liu Mingyan and the "sexiness" of the Liu Mingyan versus Sha Hualing setup. He knows what he should be feeling in this situation as a "normal straight guy", but I don't think he's actually feeling it.
"Shen Qingqiu was very fond of this female lead, and it wasn't only because Liu Mingya's beauty points were the highest. It was also because she had great poise. She always understood the big picture and grasped the general situation, and her conduct was fair and honest. Even in Luo Binghe's gigantic harem, a wife with both intelligence and moral character was rare.
There was one more appeal factor. Liu Mingyan was the only female character for whom Airplane Shooting Towards the Sky didn't write detailed sex scenes. Many readers had been highly dissatisfied with this arrangement, to the point that they spammed the comments with their ranting, but this had given Liu Mingyan something no other female lead had: an image as clear as ice and pure as jade!
Can't be helped, the unobtainable ones are always the best.
[Sweatdropping shrug kaomoji that I can't type out.]
This was what made the second match worth watching. An evil demoness naturally demanded a righteous saintess as a rival. Every man dreamed of being caught between an angel and a devil. To watch them jealously vie with each other over him one moment, then risk life and limb for his sake in the next - that was the highest, most sacred, perverted fantasy of every male organism. He could drunk off the wild, untamed charm of the wicked seductress, and at the same time his heart would ache for the austere taste of the pure saintess who kept pulling him closer only to push him away!
One had to admit, "Great Master" Airplane was genuinely good at nailing what people found satisfying. Shen Qingqiu couldn't help giving Luo Binghe another glance.
Luo Binghe found it very hard to not care about that gaze. Why exactly did Shen Qingqiu keep looking at him? Was it possible that Shizun... really had an interest in him?"
Volume 1, Chapter 2, pages 111-112.
I'm not sure where to start with this! It's a lot! I'll just work backwards: it is very funny to have Shen Qingqiu repeatedly looking towards Luo Binghe, trying to see Binghe's reactions to Sha Hualing and Liu Mingyan, and Binghe's just like, "Shizun is looking at me???" I think "interest" in this case just means interest in Binghe as a disciple with potential, rather than anything else. Binghe is not paying any real attention to Sha Hualing or Liu Mingyan's attractiveness.
Oh! A rare compliment towards "Great Master" Airplane! Shen Yuan, don't strain those rarely used muscles!
I do find it amusing that Shen Yuan refers to Liu Mingyan as "moral" and "righteous" and "pure" here. The vibe I got with Liu Mingyan is that she sided with Luo Binghe to take down her brother's murderer, which I would agree is righteous and abides by a set of morals. But the first few pages of SVSSS inform us that PIDW Luo Binghe viciously destroyed the great cultivation sects, which means that PIDW wife Liu Mingyan either helped or stepped aside when a whole bunch of murder happened.
And the "my favorite wife is the one with no (or limited) sex scenes" is a classic Shen Yuan moment and one of the reasons he reads as being strongly on the asexuality spectrum to me. The way that he talks about heterosexual "male" desire gives me the same vibe. Like he's separated from it. Like he knows this is what he's "supposed" to feel and he just... doesn't... and it's possibly hard for him to recognize what sexual desire feels like (as opposed to, say, general sexual arousal that doesn't necessarily have a target) if he's never actually experienced it himself. He knows what he should be feeling if he was the "every man" reader of PIDW.
Even when he talks about Sha Hualing and Liu Mingyan's appeal, he says "wild, untamed charm" and "pulling him closer only to push him away" as the key components of the fantasy. Like, "being flirted with" and "being fought over and fought for" and "appreciating a distant beauty" are more important than "having sex". "The most appealing thing about Liu Mingyan is that she wouldn't actually go through with trying to have sex with me," says Shen Yuan.
He's like, "Oh, I can recognize that Liu Mingyan and Sha Hualing are physically attractive, that probably means I'm an Ordinary Straight Man." Even though the way that he talked about Liu Qingge's looks in the Ling Xi Caves was... not very heterosexual... and here, he mostly seems excited just to see one of his favorite characters.
Admittedly, Sha Hualing appears 15-16 here and I think Liu Mingyan is around the same age (she doesn't have her spiritual sword yet), so Shen Yuan is probably also not attracted to them just because they're teenagers. (I do not interpret him as sexually or romantically interested in Binghe at all at this point in time.) I headcanon Shen Yuan being 20-ish at this point in time, so he's probably not that much older than SHL or LMY, but they're probably around his younger sister's age (Shen Yuan's younger sister was old enough to be reading non-con, gay, BDSM erotica.) Sha Hualing shows up half-naked and Shen Yuan is just like, "Where are your shoes? Did you walk here like this? Wasn't that painful?"
In my opinion, Shen Yuan seems a little... relieved... to think that no one could be sexually or romantically interested in the scum villain. He does lament that it's hard to get a girlfriend like this, sure. He does think that he's going to die and that he'd eventually lose any woman to Binghe, so there's no point in trying. But he really, really does not try. "Oh, I can't pursue anyone because they'd never be interested in me! How frustrating! ...Anyway! Moving on to enjoy the many other little pleasures of life! Like food and monsters!" I think the closest he comes to flirting with anyone is when speaking to Liu Qingge in the Ling Xi Caves, while Liu Qingge is coughing up blood, and that did not seem intentional.
I think if he had transmigrated into any other character, who wasn't an "unappealing" villain, Shen Yuan still wouldn't pursue women. I think he'd be like, "Well, I want a beautiful woman, because I have standards! But all beautiful women belong to the protagonist, and no one is better than Binghe, there's no way I'd win that competition, so there's no point in trying!" At which point, it's just like, "Shen Yuan, anyone becomes beautiful when you love or like them; I don't think you actually want to fuck women."
I think if Shen Yuan had transmigrated in as Luo Binghe, he still wouldn't try to pursue women. He'd be like, "I'm just raising my standards for the harem! Some of those wives were not very intelligent or in possession of good moral character! Nearly three-digits is disrespectful to the better wives! I'm only interested in especially beautiful and skilled women, like Liu Mingyan, who's perfect! (And also won't try to have sex with me.)"
Like, I am not against a bisexual Shen Yuan. I am willing to be persuaded to go along with many different interpretations! But he does read to me generally as a gay asexual / demisexual who hasn't yet realized that a desire to be fawned over and an ability to recognize beauty is not necessarily the same thing as sexual attraction. (I do think he is attracted to Binghe after Binghe gets back from the Endless Abyss, but his feelings there are tied up in his very real, reasonable fear of murder and mutilation.)

I'm thinking of shizun trying to be serious/normal as he's teaching and performing his peak lord duties but Binghe just came back from the demon realm and he's so so happy so he walks around all day with this enchanting smile on his lips ... mqf sees an unprecedented number of patients who have injured themselves by running into things/tripping bc they were too captivated by shizun's smile
one (1) disciple remains standing and is perfectly unaffected. they gain everyone's respect and suspicion, and liu qingge has finally found someone stronger than him. if only he hadn't broken his arm in an accidental and perfectly unrelated fall down the mountain, he would demand a duel. alas.
i also like to think binghe has no idea of this. he's gotten used to shizun being so carefree and soft-smiley around him in the last few years. he genuinely doesn't clock the difference until ning yingying shows up and asks him why shizun's so happy today. binghe tilts his head to the side and considers the question but lets it go when shen qingqiu calls for him.
ming fan has no thoughts on the matter, he's busy picking up the slack; whenever binghe's on the peak, shen qingqiu demands perfect privacy and leaves ming fan in charge. liu mingyan is a bit miffed; everyone keeps complaining her characterisation of bingqiu is inaccurate lately. sha hualing is just happy she can finally catch a break now that junshang's gone back to the human realm.
at the next peak lords' meeting mu qingfang keeps glaring at shen qingqiu, who is too busy trying to guess what binghe meant when he said he has a "surprise" for dinner. if it's a sex thing again he's going to pay shang qinghua a violent visit.

[Please be kind and respectful in the notes. Anti-Propaganda is NOT allowed.]
Uriel from Omniscient Reader’s Viewpoint / ORV
[No propaganda prepared]
Wiki Link
Additional Propaganda 1: Cheerful and kind personality, amazing powers for smiting evil, huge rpf shipper. Think fujoshi but for people you actually know in real life 😂
Additional Propaganda 2: Member of the Absolute Good constellations, ships the main character with the protagonist. About to bankrupt her constellation paying for new content for her ship 😉
Sha Hualing from The Scum Villain’s Self-Saving System
Submission 1: I can't stand her and yet I love her. What does that tell you?
Submission 2: her cringefail losergirl swag <3 girlie constantly in situations and she put herself into most of them
Mod Propaganda
A fierce demon who attacked the Cang Qiong Mountain sect in SVSSS and became one of Luo Binghe’s wives in Proud Immortal Demon Way who often fought with Liu Mingyan and Qin Wanyue
My fav description of her is something along the lines of, “trying to be the steal-your-man girl who fails about it so badly”
She’s ambitious, she’s ruthless, she’s intelligent -  If you support women’s rights, you should also support women’s wrongs (/light-hearted)

The SVSSS Corporate Consulting AU that no one asked for
This isn't really a coherent plotbunny; rather it's more like a string of random ideas and tidbits all set in the same AU.
CFO Shen Jiu unexpectedly goes on short-term medical leave which ends up becoming long term (and then kind of permanent since Shen Jiu decides to permanently become CEO Yue Qingyuan's Trophy Wife and lounge in bed sipping wine all day) and his replacement Shen Yuan suddenly finds himself getting saddled with the CFO title (and pay, which is nice).
----
“President Shen,” Luo Binghe sighs happily, like he’s forgotten every other word in his vocabulary.  "Don't call me that," Shen Yuan sigh a very resigned sigh for the nth time that week. "I'm a director." Luo Binghe doesn't let it deter him. "But you don't want to be called CFO Shen." Somehow he manages to place a cup of hot coffee onto Shen Yuan's desk in a way that can only be called "way too fucking happy for a Saturday morning" because Shen Yuan was the stupid smuck who agreed to juggling all this work for extra money. Was it worth it?
---
The cast:
CEO: Yue Qingyuan
CFO: Shen Qingqiu
COO: Shang Qinghua
CTO: that sword peak lord
CMO: Qi Qingqi
CCO: Mu Qingfang
Liu Qingge: board of directors (because he's only visits the company every now and then but not for long before he hops back to doing other things. There's not much physical activities involving fighting in the corporate world... but hey, a professional athlete can be a shareholder!)
Meng Mo is the CEO of Zoom btw. Luo Binghe was the consultant who won the Cang Qiong consulting company the contract with Meng Mo and was thus the project lead on this case. He poached the contract from Demonly Consulting's Sha Hualing in revenge for her attempt at poach one of Cang Qiong's big contracts by gatecrashing a Cang Qiong private event.
----
Ming Fan is the CFO's secretary - sorry, administrative assistant is the proper title nowadays.
Luo Binghe is one of the newest hires to the company.
Ming Fan is Not Happy about how Luo Binghe is determined to steal his job of admin assistant, spending way too much freaking time in Shen Yuan's office ordering lunches and fetching coffee for the interim CFO, and booking airplane tickets and hotel reservations on top of memorizing Shen Yuan's calendar - which would be known by only Ming Fan (who schedules things onto Shen Yuan's calendar) and Shen Yuan himself.
How the fuck did Luo Binghe get access to it!?
And somehow Luo Binghe is still managing to juggle his consulting work without getting fired from the company. Consultants are expected to be billing at least 90% of the 40 hour workweek (aka that's 36 hours a week) to a client or they would be put on PIP (Performance Improvement Plan) and then fired if they don't improve enough.
Oh and naturally Ming Fan tries to make Luo Binghe's life miserable by canceling Luo Binghe's corporate card while Luo Binghe is away on a business trip.

Does anyone have any "hear me out" SV pairings? Mine is Sha Hualing × Little Palace Mistress.
Okay so this works for both SV and PIDW versions of the character, but I first got it into my head while working on my post Bingge v Bingmei PIDW fic from the wives perspective.
The Little Palace Mistress and Sha Hualing both come from nobility, their homes run by a powerful man. The Old Palace Master is obviously a piece of shit, and in a lot of fanon Sha Hualings dad isn't so great himself. But they both clearly grew up in very different situations.
For my fanon, the LPM grew up very sheltered and spoiled, with very little real connections to others her age. In canon, LPM has no mother in the picture, the OPM is never mentioned to have a former wife or wives, but he IS known to prey on female disciples. The OPM is old as balls. The LPM is around Gongyi Xiao's age.
Huh. Weird.
Also, the little palace mistress' birth lines up weirdly well with the OPM's obsession with Su Xiyan, and for obvious reasons she can't be SXY's child, so what actually is going on here, OPM??? Did he have a bizarre, fucked up rebound about a disciple who wasn't interested in him at all? What is going ON here??
Anyways.
LPM grows up sheltered, spoiled, and expected to marry who her father tells her, first Gongyi Xiao, then Luo Binghe, because you CANNOT tell me the OPM did not push her towards LBH once he appeared. And in PIDW? She does. She marries Luo Binghe, the most powerful man in the world, and joins his harem. His very, very big harem, filled with hundreds of other women, whom she has no idea how to interact with, and she has been told her entire life her worth is based around men's favor, and her husband hardly pays attention to her unless she raises hell.
Recipe for disaster #1.
Now, Sha Hualing. For my fanon, she grew up with a LOT of siblings, all vying for her father's throne, and in order to win against them she had to become the absolute best. She became the demon saintess younger than anyone else ever had, at only sixteen, and while her invasion failed, it was still impressive that she managed to break into and cause damage to the strongest sect humanity had to offer. But her father still didn't seem to care.
Jianhong-Jun still seemed to favor her older brothers, which frustrated Sha Hualing to no end. Couldn't he tell she was the best? She had killed two of her brothers and a sister already! She had become a demon saintess! She had invaded the core of Cang Qiong, Qiong Ding itself! But apparently, all her hard work could get her was the role of a powerful and useful bride!
Fine, her father wanted her to get married that much? She would marry a heavenly demon, and help him destroy her father! She would rule the harem with an iron fist, lead his armies, be the best first wife he had ever-
Who the hell was Ning Yingying? What is Liu Mingyan doing here? THREE HUNDRED WIVES????
Recipe for disaster #2.
So, with this we have established two self-centered disaster women with complexes about being the best wives and daddy issues and a penchant for solving their problems by creating bigger problems for everyone else. So why, do you ask, do I think they should kiss?
It would be really funny.
Plus, I headcanon SHL as a bit of a Playgirl, who has messed around with at least half the harem, and the LPM as surprisingly inexperienced, considering how sheltered she's been, though with her experiences with LBH and SHL she has gotten into some... More interesting stuff.
(airplane didn't give her a whip for no reason)
Anyways I think they would be absolutely horrible together. LPM would be waaaay too attached, to both LBH and SHL, while both of them actually don't have that much investment in her. RIP LPM. This could also lead to an insane breakdown and screaming fit from the LPM at some point.
My fic is endgame mingling, rip LPM, but if we wanted to take this a more wholesome route, it would be interesting to see the dynamic of them both going "oh no I fell for this absolute bitch HOW" and both of them coming to terms with loving someone not for political gain, but just for themselves.
But really I'm here to see who breaks up with who, and who does the Xianxia equivalent of keying the other ones car.

📚🍑
📚:
Really should have considered before. It was almost absurd that it hadn’t; after all, it was only his mother’s diligence and exceptional intelligence that meant he himself had learned to read. Xue Yang, as far as Jin Guangyao could tell, had had no one.  “I could find a teacher for you,” he said carefully. “If you were interested.” Xue Yang’s glance in his direction was wary, but there was a spark in it that made Jin Guangyao want to smile. He held it back and kept his face neutral, suspecting it would be taken poorly. “I want you to do it,” Xue Yang said abruptly. Jin Guangyao startled a little. “You do?”  Xue Yang glanced away. “Yeah,” he said, voice a challenge. “You’re easier to put up with than most people.”
🍑:
She barely listened to what the head of the contingent – not one of the peak lords she recognized, which either was a sign of disrespect or her not paying attention – was saying. Her attention kept straying to Liu Mingyan, standing right there, the veil hiding her face so Sha Hualing had no idea what she was thinking.  She didn’t like that, the not knowing. Anything could be going on behind those pretty eyes and she wouldn’t know about it until it came out of her mouth.

SVSSS Headcanon: Drive Thru Edition!
Shen Qingqiu: He pulls up in a cute little cucumber-green car, impatiently honking at the person in front of him (he's second in line).
Luo Binghe: He is right behind Shen Qingqiu's car and hopes that he sees him at some point. He's in a flashy, bold, sleek black car.
Shang Qinghua: He's driving Mobei-Jun's cool and expensive car with Mobei in the passenger seat and Sha Hualing in the back. He just wants something simple like a drink, while the other two are still conjuring up what they want to order. He's right behind Luo Binghe
Ning Yingying: She's on a cute little pink moped, behind Shang Qinghua.
Liu Mingyan: She's driving her brother's car because she lost a bet on who's driving and paying for food. Their car is behind Ning Yingying's moped.
Liu Qingge: He won a bet, and now he's sitting in the passenger seat while Mingyan drives.
Yue Qingyuan: He's behind everyone else and is just contemplating whether or not he should just pull out of the drive thru and just go inside or to a different restaurant. He's also driving a minivan.
Tianlang-Jun: He's taking forever at ordering the biggest meal he can get for him and Zhuzhi-Lang in a pick-up truck.
Zhuzhi-Lang: Concerned for how much his uncle is ordering, but he's mostly concerned about his snakes in the bed of the truck.

The passage where Sha Hualing loses her clothing:
"Next, this world proved itself to be truly that of a fanservice-packed stallion novel. After Sha Hualing was blasted away, she let out a single delicate scream, and the gauzy red cloth draped over her body - that had barely covered anything in the first place - also tore to shreds, eliciting a series of alarmed cries from the onlookers. She cushioned her landing with a beautifully executed roll, propelling herself to standing in a single movement. Demons were indeed bold and unrestrained; even though her entire body was censored out, Sha Hualing wasn't ashamed in the slightest. She spitefully tore off the cloak of a subordinate beside her, carelessly throwing it over herself.
"I underestimated you today," she said. "But we will definitely meet again in the future! Let's go!" "
Volume 1, Chapter 2, page 130.
I still wonder what "her entire body was censored out" means here. My assumption here (and when something similar happens later on) is that Shen Yuan is just ignoring the full-body nudity here. He is looking away. He is mentally applying black bars. This is a naked 15-16-year-old and he is NOT paying attention to that.
Honestly, I'm not sure whether or not I like this detail. On one hand, yeah, nipple slips and other flashing would be an inevitable side effect of wearing the skimpy clothing of harem stories, especially when you're wearing to battle. That's a realistic thing that would happen and I do find that a little funny. I do like the fact that this flashing happens quite quickly, no one appears to make that much of a deal out of it, and Sha Hualing covers herself quickly without feeling too much embarrassment. Despite this being an artifact of PIDW's sexy bullshit, it's treated practically here. Shen Qingqiu and Liu Qingge are not attracted to the demon teenager at all.
I can't full express what my issue with this nudity. I guess would prefer that if this had to happen, it had also happened more and to adult male characters as well, leaning into the sheer absurdity of living in the PIDW world. Shen Yuan loses a shirt to the Skinner Demon, and then later loses clothing again in the Water Prison, so that's something. But why not also have Liu Qingge lose a little more clothing in the Ling Xi Caves? Maybe Luo Binghe's blast of demonic energy during the Immortal Alliance Conference could have taken off Mobei-Jun's shirt? I'm going to be keeping track of the contrived nudity situations going forward.
It would be fun to write a fic in which the characters just... practically and tiredly deal with a world designed to eat clothing. It's not sexy. It's embarrassing, but mostly, everyone is very done with this.

For the 35 Questions for Fanfic Writers: 4, 5 10, 12, 16, 19, 27, 34
Oh wow so many! Thank you very much!
4. Are there any writers that inspire you?
Plenty! I'm constantly inspired by other writers in this (DMBJ) fandom. @xantissa and @merinnan and @alxina have such steamy scenes and excellent action plots, and gifted the fandom with not only PingXieSang but Fox!Sang. @foxofninetales has a way with words that I am constantly envious of. @wild-feather writes SO MUCH and is an excellent cheerleader. @hils79 can do slice of life one-shots like no one else. I could honestly heap praises on so so many people (do you write for this fandom? THEN I MEAN YOU), and I draw little bits of inspiration from everything I read.
5. What’s the fic you’re most proud of?
I have a couple, for very different reasons. Pyre, for being the start of my very own pool noodle, and for being the first multi-chapter fic I ever actually finished. And Ordinary World, for being the longest fic I've ever written (to date) and for the world-building. I also wrote the entire thing in just over a month, which is a level of productivity that will probably never happen again.
10. What’s your favorite genre to write for?
It's a toss-up between Canon Divergence and Fusion (characters from one thing put into the world/plot of another thing).
12. Tell us about a WIP you’re excited about.
I started a RiSang Pretty Woman AU that I'm having a lot of fun writing so far. I'm going to try and sit on it until it's mostly done, so I don't feel guilty for not updating faster. But it's in the works!
16. Any guilty pleasure trope(s)?
Answered here!
19. Do you prefer canon-compliant, AUs, or something in-between?
...Yes? LOL Ok not very specific. But I've gotten inspiration for all three of those things. Like Pyre is technically "canon-compliant" with Sha Hai apart from the obvious. The major events happening in the background don't change much from canon, save for some tweaking of the (very very wonky) timeline. While Ordinary World and a few of my WIPs are totally AU. I do tend to try and weave at least some of canon (or at least similar events) into my AUs though, so I guess most of them count as "something in-between".
27. What’s the nicest comment you’ve ever received?
Oh gosh EVERY comment I get is enough to make my entire day! I've only (so far?) gotten one comment that wasn't nice. But maybe...if I absolutely had to choose...I'd say @crowbraiin's comments on Ordinary World as it was going up during the Rarepair Exchange. Seeing how happy they were about it made ME super happy too.
34. Copy and paste an excerpt you’re particularly fond of.
I've mentioned Ordinary World a few times already, so here's a little bit of RiSang's first meeting in that fic:
Under a cut because I didn't realize how long it was in Tumblr format
“Is there no other way for you to prove your identity?” Zhang Rishan asks.
His head snaps back up, because yes! He can do that! “I know Wu Xie is still alive. He knows me. If you take me to him, he can prove it to you.”
Liu Sang doesn't get the reaction he's hoping for. Zhang Rishan goes completely, eerily still, in the way that only large predators can. “Take you to Wu Xie?” he repeats, and there's ice in his voice. “How do I know you're not a Wang assassin? Perhaps the other fox shifter is the real Liu Sang, and you're merely an impostor that followed him here. Or maybe the two of you are here together to better your chances. How can I be sure you're telling me the truth, and not just what I want to hear so that I'll let you get close enough to Wu Xie to finish him off?”
“What!? No! I'm not a Wang!” Liu Sang protests, cursing the fact that no, he doesn't have a single thing on him to prove that he's telling the truth. “I don't want to kill Wu Xie!” Well, he doesn't want to assassinate him. He's wanted to murder the man plenty, particularly for dropping him into what was supposed to be a well-paying, simple job that would look good on his resume, but what turned out to be some kind of convoluted horror story that involved him being haunted. By paint, of all goddamn things.
“Then prove it,” Zhang Rishan says again, and while his features are still hard and unforgiving, his tone says there is actually some way for Liu Sang to do that to his satisfaction.
“How? How can I do that?” he asks, and he internally cringes at how desperate he sounds. But he has the distinct impression that being unable to prove himself right here and now means he's not going to walk out of this room again. And if he dies here, he won't have any chance at all to tell Wu Xie that his plan as it stands now is going to get him, and everyone else involved, killed. “Tell me what I have to do.”
Something in Zhang Rishan's expression shifts. Just slightly, almost imperceptibly, but for just a moment, it feels more like he's being regarded with appraisal than accusation. As if the fact that Liu Sang doesn't already know what he needs to do means something. “Turn around and take off the robe,” Zhang Rishan says after a moment.
Liu Sang chokes on nothing, and gapes at him. He can't be serious. How is that going to prove anything? “Wh—what?” he stammers, tugging the robe a little more securely around himself. He wants to gain Zhang Rishan's trust but that's...
Zhang Rishan gives him A Look, and sighs. “The mark of the Wang clan is a tattoo. A phoenix on the right shoulder,” he explains. “Show me you have no tattoo, and I will take you to Wu Xie.”
Oh.
“Oh,” he echoes aloud, but any relief he might have felt is short-lived. Not because he has any kind of tattoo. He definitely doesn't. But his back isn't without its marks, and showing them to anyone, much less a complete stranger, is asking a lot. He glances over his shoulder, and realizes belatedly it's a highly suspicious thing to do when he looks back and finds the accusatory expression has returned to Zhang Rishan's face.
Reluctantly, Liu Sang turns. It's the only way. He recognizes and accepts that, but it's a part of himself he doesn't like to think about, and certainly doesn't like to make visible. Pulling his hair away from the nape of his neck, Liu Sang lets the collar of the robe gape open, and shrugs it off his shoulders, though he does not let it fall all the way. Zhang Rishan hasn't earned that show from him yet. His shoulders hunch as he feels the cool underground air brush the sensitive burn scars that cover his upper back, and hears the sharply drawn breath Zhang Rishan takes at the sight of them. It makes him bristle despite his fear. He doesn't want anyone's pity.
What he's not expecting is the sure touch of a broad hand coming to rest flat against his shoulder. He'd been so preoccupied with his own anxiety that, for the second time in less than an hour, he's caught off-guard. He hadn't even heard Zhang Rishan move. Liu Sang jumps, startled, but Zhang Rishan's other hand comes to rest on his opposite shoulder, holding him steady, and not letting him dart away.
“The tattoos are only visible when the skin is heated,” Zhang Rishan says softly, his breath wafting against the shell of Liu Sang's ear, and his voice is so close, and so suddenly gentle. There's almost an unspoken apology in it. Liu Sang shudders, and he's honestly not sure if it's a result of exposing his scars to Zhang Rishan, or because he's instinctively responding to the soothing tone in his voice. Like the purring of a cat, it somehow eases some of his tension.
Zhang Rishan's hand seems to burn against his skin. The heat of it seeps down into his bones, spreading warmth through his veins despite the residual chill of the underground air. Liu Sang shivers again when he feels Zhang Rishan lean in to breathe warm air onto his skin, presumably in an attempt to speed the process along. He's a little taken aback by the intimacy of the gesture, and his response to it. Because he's very abruptly reminded of the way Zhang Rishan's teeth had clamped onto the back of his neck and held firm, and he can't help the intrusive and completely inappropriate thought that maybe he wouldn't mind if it happened again.
But then the hand and the breath are gone, and the moment with them, and Liu Sang is left a little breathless himself at how bereft and cold he feels without them.
Which is absurd. His life is at risk if he can't make Zhang Rishan trust him. He shouldn't be having feelings about being put through a test that will determine whether he lives or dies.

Socialite AU, last part! I finished a thing! Also posted on AO3 now that it’s done.
Shen Yuan had expected that the beginning of the school year would have kept Luo Binghe too busy for them to see each other more than, oh, about once a month, but it doesn’t seem to be the case. Luo Binghe is obviously very smart, so maybe that’s why he can keep up so easily. His studies sure don’t seem to stop him from having Shen Yuan over at least once a week.
Luo Binghe says it’s because he cannot trust Shen Yuan to feed himself properly, something Shen Yuan himself has profusely denied. First, he’s a fully grown adult, he can cook! Second, if he doesn’t feel like it, he can order in, or pay someone to cook for him. There are no issues there! He doesn’t need to be minded.
Not that he minds being minded. Shen Yuan has eaten more than his share of delicious food, and Luo Binghe’s stands above the rest. There are worst things than travelling to Luo Binghe’s apartment and eating a freshly cooked meal.
They don’t talk about novels as much though. This is an area where Luo Binghe had to step back in favor of reading assigned manuals. Shen Yuan has spent more than one evening reading trash by himself while Luo Binghe sat nearby, throwing the occasional question his way as he studied. Not that it seemed like he needed the help.
When does he see his college friends, Shen Yuan has no idea. Luo Binghe always waves away any concern of his on this matter. Seriously, Shen Yuan is a bit worried. Does he not fit in? It seems impossible that someone as charming, not to mention as affluent, as him would be ostracised. Even Shen Yuan had managed to gather a small group of friends during his college years. Luo Binghe must have done the same, no?
If he hasn’t, his fellow students are missing out.
In that case, Shen Yuan will take him out it their place. It wouldn’t do for Binghe to be lonely.
Not that that’s likely, considering how popular he is in their circle. As far as his female compatriots are concerned, Luo Binghe is now Beijing’s most eligible bachelor.
It’s a role that suits Luo Binghe’s public persona to a tee. He flutters between ladies as if he were born into in, flirting with one and laughing with another one with an ease Shen Yuan cannot help but envy, considering his own limited contacts with the other sex.
If those interactions often ended with a pretend fight between them, neither of them would complain about it. It was fun. Much better than insulting real people and wondering later if he’d gone too far, if he’d seriously hurt someone whose crime had only been to be born in a shitty family and raised in a similarly shitty fashion. He and Binghe sometimes rehearsed lines late into the night before a party, sentences that were meant to be biting insults turning into uncontrollable laughter.
Everything was going well. Shen Yuan’s reputation was becoming so toxic it had been weeks since the last time one of his fellow socialites had dared to speak to him, which is how Shen Yuan liked it. As for Luo Binghe, he was both admired for standing up to mean Shen Yuan, and pitied for always being the receptor of his ire. Binghe was more than talented enough to use all of it to his advantage.
All in all, everything was going perfectly.
Until now. “Excuse me?” says Shen Yuan with the coldest, most disparaging tone he has managed yet.
Sha Hualing, sadly, doesn’t seem impressed. “You can deny it all you want. It’s obvious. It must drive you crazy, seeing him with us and knowing you’ll never have a chance. He’s so good, too. Made me scream so loud I’m sure the neighbors heard. Not that you’ll ever find out yourself. Keep pulling his pigtails. He knows, he’s just too nice to tell how pathetic you are.”
Shen Yuan cannot convey to Sha Hualing how utterly from left field her theory is, and how completely baffled he is, without breaking his carefully maintained aura of disgusted condescension, but he really wishes he could. “You’re insane. How could I be attracted to… that.” He winces in his head. Too much? There are probably zero people that don’t feel at least a little attracted to Luo Binghe in this room.
But if there was one, it would be him. Luo Binghe is his cute disciple and friend, not his meal ticket. Leave that to Sha Hualing and her posse.
Her answering laugh is haughty. “Not even you believe that. Anyway, I just wanted to rub it in, but now that that’s done, I got better things to do than talking to you, like him. Fuck off.”
He flips her off as she leaves. Not his most elegant moment, but not the most elegant situation.
How the fuck did she get into her sick mind that he was into Luo Binghe. She should have thought they hated each other! That they wanted to tear each other’s throats open, not tear each other’s clothes off!
… Holy fuck their characters have ust, haven’t they? Danmei isn’t his playing field, but some things are universal across gender. There is an undeniable pull to seeing two hot people seeming like they’re two seconds away from punching each other when it also seems like they might be two seconds away from… something else.
It’s the only possible interpretation. They haven’t been careful enough, and now their roles are tainted by bad tropes!
Shen Yuan is going to have to adapt his persona a bit. Let himself run even colder. Less hate, more indifference, maybe? Or maybe he could just leave Luo Binghe alone for a few parties.
It wouldn’t work! It would seem like he chickened out after Sha Hualing confronted him! It would make it appear weak!
Could he make up a girlfriend?
Nah, no one would believe it.
Fuck, he’s going to need Luo Binghe’s help on this one.
_________________
“She what!?”
“Thinks I keep picking fights with you because I’m trying to get your attention and that I’d really like for you to bend me over something, probably.”
Luo Binghe blushes bright red.
Shen Yuan restrains his mirth. Nice to see he’s not the only one terribly embarrassed by the situation!
Yes, pinching those red cheeks would only make things worse, but he’s still very tempted.
Shen Yuan soldiers on. “Binghe shouldn’t worry about things too much. His reputation is safe. Considering how well he gets on with the fairer sex,” and yes, now Shen Yuan knows way more than he ever wanted to know about Sha Hualing’s sex life, but that’s life,” no one will doubt him. If he has no idea, I’ll think of something. It’s not his problem.”
“Shizun’s problems are my problems! He wouldn’t be in this situation if it wasn’t for me!”
Aww, Binghe, why is your indignation so cute!” Don’t blame yourself. We both agreed to the plan. It’s no one’s fault.”
Luo Binghe looks down, obviously still embarrassed. “I really have no idea where she got that. Shizun never appears to be attracted to me.”
“Who knows how Sha Hualing thinks. She probably watches too much porn.” He wouldn’t be surprised, considering how low-class she acted.
A second later, he catches his mistake. If Luo Binghe is… seeing her, he shouldn’t be that mean to her in his presence. “Sorry for insulting your… friend.” He doesn’t think they’re officially dating? Sha Hualing would never shut up about it, and anyway Luo Binghe wouldn’t have as much time for Shen Yuan if he was serious about someone. It’s probably just hormones raging.
Luo Binghe shakes his head. “Shizun shouldn’t apologise! She’s the one who was this rude! Implying Shizun doesn’t know how to court someone, or that he’d need such a ridiculous approach when a few words would be enough for him to have anyone! What a stupid woman.”
It’s Shen Yuan’s turn to be embarrassed. Luo Binghe is pushing the hero worship a little too far here. He’s got way more experience in that department than Shen Yuan will ever get, probably. “Well, if you don’t like her, maybe choose someone better as a partner? You could have anyone. I know it’s none of my business, and I guess she’s attractive, but really, so are many others who don’t share her… fiery temperament.”
If he were honest, he’d just tell Binghe he deserves better.
Much, much better. Didn’t he see her chatting with Liu Mingyan the other day? Now that’s a woman worthy of his Binghe, almost his equal in all fields.
Not that he needs to find someone just yet. He should take his time, and find someone he likes.
Luo Binghe snorts. “I would never choose her.”
Shen Yuan blinks. “Didn’t you?”
Luo Binghe looks wounded. “Why would you think that? I would never be with someone this cruel to Shizun!”
“But she said… oh.” Shen Yuan is an idiot. Why, why did he, even for a second, believe what that snake said? “Binghe must let me apologise. I’ve been stupid and have believed her when she said you and her were… involved.”
“Shizun mustn’t believe her! She lies!”
Shen Yuan pats Luo Binghe’s back gently. “I don’t! I don’t. She lied. I don’t believe her anymore. Of course Binghe has better tastes than this. I should have known.”
Luo Binghe raises his chin. “I do. I have the best tastes.”
Shen Yuan lets a smile appears on his face. “You do. After all, you have chosen me to guide you.”
Luo Binghe nods with almost comical vigour. “Yes!”
So! Cute! Shen Yuan wants to give him a hug!
He won’t, because he’s the dignified older friend.
Who reads bad online novels, but let’s not linger on that. “So, what do we do about her imagination? Because she cannot keep a secret to save her life, so I expect people will talk about it the next time we attend the same event.”
“…Does Shizun want… a girlfriend?”
What does that have to do with anything. “If I meet the right person, sure. Why?”
“Does it matter what they think? They never cared about Shizun to begin with. Who cares if they think he’s attracted to me. It doesn’t change a thing.”
Well, yes, but. “It makes me look pretty pathetic. It’s not exactly a fun reputation to have.”
“What does?”
“That I want someone and the best thing I can do about it is insulting them? It does make me look like a kindergartener.”
An unholy light appears in Luo Binghe’s eyes. “So what if that wasn’t the best thing you had done?”
“I’m sorry?”
“Shizun feels pathetic because he doesn’t like the idea that people think he wants someone and he doesn’t know how to get them, right? But what if he did?”
Shen Yuan is very confused right now. “Binghe?”
“We knew each other before that first party, right? So I let them know that. We could be bitter exes!”
Shen Yuan looks at him, completely frozen. “Binghe, no.” That is 100% a terrible idea.
“Why not? It would explain everything! Why we’re so mean to each other while I’m nice to everyone else, why you’re worst to me, and why there’s tension between us!”
There is no tension between them! They’re playing characters! “People would think you’re gay!”
“I’ve been flirting with women all the time. People would think I’m bi.”
“You’ve just told me you haven’t been dating! What if they think you’re hung up on me, who, by the way, is a man!”
“Is it that bad? I wouldn’t mind. Shizun is someone I would certainly be hung on if he had left me.”
“So I’m the one who left you now? That makes even less sense! Why would someone like me leave someone like you! Of course Binghe is the one who left!”
“If I were dating Shizun, I would never leave him! He has to be the one who left me!”
Shen Yuan rubs his temples. He knew the conversation wouldn’t be simple, but it has reached unprecedented levels of nonsense. “Let’s forget who left who. We’re not doing that. Binghe would ruin his reputation to only slightly better mine. That makes no sense.”
Luo Binghe pouts. “It would have worked. I would have made a very good ex-boyfriend.”
Shen Yuan pats his back again. “I’m sure you would have. I, on the other hand, would probably have been terrible at it.”
“Why?”
“How could I have pretended to not only have dated Binghe, but to have separated from him? No one would believe it. My talents aren’t up to the task. I can’t make myself look like a plausible boyfriend to Binghe.”
Luo Binghe sighs. “That’s stupid. Shizun might as well have been my boyfriend lately.”
Shen Yuan feels a headache coming. He can barely follow the logic of this conversation. “Binghe, I don’t understand.”
“Shen Yuan spends most of his evenings with me. I cook for him. He takes me out. We’ve been writing to each other for months. He’s been carefully curating my reading lists for most of those months. He has plenty of reasons why I would be dating him.”
Okay, let’s just ignore most of that. “Nothing you listed has anything to do with the character we play for those society functions? High society Shen Yuan probably only reads classic literature, when he’s not working his high-power job and, I don’t know, checking stocks or playing the guqin. Nothing appealing there. How would we have even met?”
“Via work? Maybe you had a meeting with some executive of my father. Considering my reputation, we probably just had sex and ended up dating later on.”
Shen Yuan tries to imagine being the kind of person who would see Luo Binghe and think he could just hit that.
Impossible. Does not compute. “Look, I’m just going to ignore it. It’s always worked before. We probably shouldn’t change it.”
“But things always staying the same is bad! They must evolve!”
Shen Yuan shrugs. “Not necessarily. My life has mostly remained the same since I’ve graduated, and it’s perfectly fine.”
Luo Binghe flinches like a kicked puppy. “Is my arrival so unimportant to Shizun?”
Fuck. “No! That’s not what I meant! I mostly meant my romantic life!” Not really, he meant his life his general, but it is quite insulting to Binghe to imply he had no impact on his life, not to mention just an outright lie.
“That, too, should change.”
“It sure won’t if everyone thinks I’m gay.”
Under Luo Binghe’s breath, barely audible to Shen Yuan, “It’s not exactly an impediment.” Then, louder. “Let’s tell them the truth, then.”
Shen Yuan instantly panics. “Binghe, they can’t know the truth, it’ll fuck everythin-“
And that’s when Luo Binghe’s tongue finds its way into Shen Yuan’s mouth.
Shen Yuan’s mind freezes completely.
Luo Binghe keeps on kissing him.
Shen Yuan’s mind keeps trying to reboot.
Luo Binghe pushes back and sighs. “Does Shizun understand now?”
Nope. “…We can’t be exes if we’re kissing?”
“Forget the exes. Let’s just tell them we’re having sex. That’ll be the true part. We’ll just tell them it’s hate sex. I’ll tell them you’re just that good and I can’t resist you. That way, you won’t be pathetic, right?”
Shen Yuan’s slowly rebooting mind cannot decide if the “reputation for being gay” part would outweigh the “reputation for having seduced Luo Binghe” part.
Wait. “We’re having sex?”
Luo Binghe falters. “If you want to? Because I want to. A lot. But we’re pretty much dating and Shen Yuan didn’t seem to realise, so I thought maybe he’s not attracted to me, but you keep acting like I’m the best thing that ever happened to you when really, the reverse is true, and can we date already? Please?”
Shen Yuan opens his mouth.
Shen Yuan closes his mouth.
Shen Yuan tries to understand that, apparently, Luo Binghe has been trying to date him? Him? Luo Binghe? And him? As a couple? That is a thing that is apparently on the table?
Wait, Shen Yuan actually is a person who could have looked and Luo Binghe and have hit that!?
Woah.
“I…”
Luo Binghe’s eyes grow even wider as he waits for Shen Yuan’s response.
As if Shen Yuan ever had the capacity to tell Binghe no.
As if he ever wanted to. “Okay. Let’s try it.”
A second later, he gets an armful of overenthusiastic Binghe trying to choke him with too much tongue.
“But we’re not playing bitter exes.” Shen Yuan really has no belief in his ability to pretend he left Luo Binghe.
That he had him and is devastated he doesn’t anymore, sure. But that he’d manage to be cruel to Luo Binghe about it? There’s no way.
“That’s fine. I like the one with the hate sex much better anyway.”
To be honest, so does Shen Yuan.
_________________
Shen Yuan positions himself in such a way that he can track Luo Binghe’s movements across the room without looking like he’s doing more than reading on his phone.
He can tell from Sha Hualing’s particularly vicious grin that she’s about to deliver what she considers to be a crippling blow to his reputation.
He thrills when the expression melts, replaced by horror as Luo Binghe’s face turn sheepish. He can almost hear his embarrassed tone as he admits to the moral failing that is sleeping with Shen Yuan, universal pariah.
He can distinctly hear the cries of dismay and what he knows are roars of utter jealousy.
None of it shows on his face, but Shen Yuan grins.

fic tag game c:
Thank you for the tag @vishcount!! It is honestly...extremely weird for people to associate me with fic? Or writing? Or existing in general? I am being...perceived??
Name: jockvillagersonly (Sierra) -- the exclusive reason for this is that I think jock villagers are hilarious. They spend their entire lives doing wind sprints and loudly yelling compliments at your biceps from, like, 50 feet away. That is the platonic ideal of joy.
Tumblr media
I mean, come on (image source)
Fandoms: I am pretty much exclusively a DMBJ (shitpost) blog at the moment! Same goes for fic; I’ve only ever written for DMBJ (with the slight exception of one very short and highly embarrassing Star Trek fic, proofread by my mom. Come through, Brenda!).
Tropes:
The repressed quiet gay is soft for the sunshine ADHD bi :) nice
All the ladies are alive and also making out with each other (not sure if that’s an actual trope but god it should be)
If you can find a fic of mine that doesn’t include "gentle" and/or neck touching, I’ll pay you $100
Favorite Fic(s) You’ve Written: Uh, I haven’t written very much!! Etched in the Senses was my first smut, so it has a very special place in my heart. I also really liked writing My Heart, In Its Basket of Bone because it was fun to just let myself play around after Anna (@humanlighthouse) did all the hard work! Thanks babe ;)
Fic I Spent the Least Time On: Hmm I think The Unmappable Geography of Breath (coincidentally the only DMBJ fic I don’t like enough to reread!). Maybe Bodies in Motion, Bodies at Rest since it was so short!
Shortest Fic: Bodies in Motion, Bodies at Rest! Fun as hell to write, though. Who doesn’t love crying about Sha Hai Wu Xie’s abs emotional trauma
Most Hits/Kudos:
Set Your Old Heart Free which...that fic is 8 years old, so I think it’s more a testament to the fact that it’s been around forever :’) 16 year old me is screaming?
For DMBJ it’s Autumn Showers, May Flowers, which recently topped 1,000 views??? I actually didn’t know that until I did this, which -- that is fucking insane? Thank?????
Most Comments: Autumn Showers, May Flowers, which makes sense, since the whole reason that fic has multiple chapters at all is people goading me in the comments (THANK YOU)
Fic You Want to Rewrite / Expand On: Oh mmm...probably The Unmappable Geography of Breath. It was my first attempt at writing ZQL, and I think I might approach him with more grace if I were to redo it.
Share a Bit of a WIP: Alright this is always my favorite part in other people’s so... :D Hope I can meet the hype. I have two major WIPs right now. Here is a snippet from chapter 2 of the DMBJ Star Trek AU, (Out Here Is) Wondrous, but not for the Timid:
Even gleaning the Romulan’s name had been a difficult endeavor, with Li Cu gaining very little from his furtive attempts at questioning other than the sneaking suspicion that Xiao Bai is now convinced he is nursing a hopeless crush on Liu Sang. Li Cu is the first to admit that under any other circumstances, Xiao Bai might not be wrong! However, he is currently in the middle of being kidnapped. Logic dictates that cute boys will simply have to wait.
At the reminder of Xiao Bai’s all-too-knowing look when they had passed by Liu Sang in the hallway earlier, Li Cu a tad too stiffly to be casual, our intrepid hero groans, letting his head thunk heavily down against the table in front of him.
Within minutes, however, a quick double tap on the table is rousing Li Cu from what he is refusing to admit is self pity. Not quite ready to stop drowning in his sorrows, Li Cu allows his head to loll sideways, looking up into the deep black eyes of his new table mate. As if summoned by his train of thought -- and, honestly, Li Cu wouldn’t put it past her; he has met enough fully matured Betazoids to have a healthy respect of their psionic abilities -- Bai Haotian is now sitting primly next to him, drink of her own in one hand as her free fingers continue drumming melodically on the tabletop.
Tumblr is being weird (I think the post got too long?), so I will tag folks in the replies!

MY TOP 9 OF YOUTH WITH YOU 3
This is my final top 9 picks on Youth With You 3. This list is completely different to the list I made when the first few episodes were released so I had to alter it multiple times to get to this. After the third elimination, I’m finally satisfied with this list despite some of my faves being eliminated so let’s get started.
Tumblr media
SUN YINGHAO (KACHINE)
I had to start off this list with my number one. He first caught my eye when he performed “tiger” but it was his solo dance with the beautiful feather top he made got me interested in him. His stage presence is phenomenal and while his vocals isn’t his strongest skill, he has improved. I love all of his performances but my favourites are “new creature” and “stop sugar” despite being injured. I hope he’s in the final line up or there will be consequences.

LUO YIZHOU
When I first saw him, I wasn’t interested in him at all but it was when he did “kick it” I was intrigued. Curiosity got the best of me and he went from non-existant in my eyes to my second pick. I can not stop thinking about “stop sugar” and “domesticator” was the cherry on top. He never fails to impress me and I love that he experiments with his abilities in every mission.
DUAN XINGXING (X)
Let me be honest here, I was attracted to him the minute he walked in with his group. He has this expression that was honestly seductive and yes, I fell for it. My favourite performances were “sha ni” , “jade” and “stand” which displayed his ability to be flexible with concepts. His rank within the top 9 is a bit dangerous so hopefully he debuts.

LIU JUN
Also known as the unofficial dance mentor. He made all of his group performances 10x better and I am here for it. I enjoyed every stage he has done from “new creature” and “jade” to “history” and “bamboo”. He honestly does no wrong in my eyes and I think his singing abilities is also good even when it’s not his biggest strength. My heart will be shattered if he’s not in the final line up.
LIU GUANYOU (NEIL)
If I had to recommend a triple threat, it would be him. He’s singing and dancing abilities are excellent and I’m sure he would be a great rapper if he had time to focus on it. His “sunshine, rainbow, white horse” and “domesticator” performances were top notch I was surprised. I also like that he experiments with concepts, which can expand his knowledge on performance quality. Bonus: he and xingxing are honestly so cute I don’t wanna separate them.

SHI QI (CHASE LEE)
I adore him. Enough said. Despite his young age, he’s excellent at expressing his emotions through music. His first stage “Light” made me tear up and eventhough I never was in his place, I had so much empathy for him. I thought he was this cold guy who’s closed off but as I watched the show, I learnt that he’s was just a cute boy who wants candy. My favourite performances he did were “unworthy” and “okay” not to mention “light”. Also, his relationship with sen is adorable - very sibling-like.
LIAN HUAIWEI
I have been rooting for him since his QCYN1 days. He was great on that season but sadly he missed his debut with Unine. I didn’t add him for sympathy but I added him to this list because I admired his drive and his resilience to come back to this show. He didn’t let his previous result stop him from pursuing his dreams. I adore his “sunshine, rainbow, white horse” and “cinderella” performances and his love-hate relationship with yihang is adorable.

SUN YIHANG
I admire his patience. He trained for 7 years and I believe its his time to shine. I was impressed by him from the first stage to his recent stages. My favourite performances were “never get low”, “history” and “way up”. His performance quality is exceptional and his singing is really good. His relationship with huaiwei is so relatable but super cute I hope he debuts. Regardless whether he debuts or not, his 7 years of hard work will pay off.
HE DERUI
This is my wild card choice. I didn’t expect myself to like him so much but he has charisma. Not as charismatic as xingxing or yizhou in a sense but he’s charming. I noticed him during “gravitation” like everyone else did but it was his “okay” and “sha ni” performances made me like him even more. I think his charms make him stand out as well as his performance quality. I just like the boy-next-door vibes he exudes.
