MCtober2024 - Introduce your MC!
I'm well aware I'm one week behind but this is literally the earliest I could finish this.. (moony crawling from the depths of irl problems) lol better late than never right? I'll try my best to catch up! · · ─────── ·❄ ❅ ❆· ─────── · · Winter Blackstone A 6th-year Ravenclaw, Winter Blackstone is quite the name at Hogwarts—mainly because she enrolled very late, took down a troll on her first day (as one does), and is known to mysteriously disappear between classes. Where to? Only Merlin knows. She’s also credited with helping stop Ranrok’s plans, though how big of a role she played remains a bit of a mystery to the students.
Winter’s mother, a Slytherin and skilled Curse-Breaker, tragically passed away when Winter was just 9 years old. Her father, though a Squib, is deeply knowledgeable about the wizarding world and has ensured Winter never felt out of place when it came to magic.
FAVORITE / HATED SUBJECTS? Winter’s top subjects are Potions, Ancient Runes, and Magical Theory—no surprises there for a curious Ravenclaw. But if you ask her about Arithmancy? That’s where you’ll hear a groan. While the concept and the theory behind it intrigues her, she absolutely avoids anything to do with numbers.
“I’m already so late to the world of magic, and now I’ve got to deal with numbers too? No, thank you!” she’s often heard saying. Yet, despite her complaints, Ominis constantly reminds her that she’s never scored a P, D, or T in Arithmancy—something he can’t say about his Potions work.
Her favorite professors? None other than Dinah Hecat, Aesop Sharp, and of course, the late Eleazar Fig.
SCHOOL CLUB Because of her late admission, Winter has little time for clubs—though she makes an exception for Crossed Wands. It’s the perfect way for her to sharpen her dueling skills, and she relishes every moment. PETS Winter has two cherished companions: Khione, her Barn Owl, and Snowball, her playful white golden retriever. Snowball was a gift from her father when she was 11, meant to lift her spirits after she didn’t receive her Hogwarts letter, leading her to believe she was a Squib. Little did she know, her letter would come at age 15, changing everything. Thanks to Professor Fig, she was given a nab-sack to sneak Snowball to Hogwarts, keeping him close even in her busy schedule. After a bit of help from Sirona at the Three Broomsticks following the troll attack, Snowball found a cozy spot to stay while Winter was in class. But when Professor Weasley introduced her to the Room of Requirement—well, Snowball ended up with a far more magical home within Hogwarts! Naturally, that little secret is kept under wraps. HOBBIES Winter has a passion for cooking, especially dishes from all around the world. As a child, she traveled extensively with her mother due to her mother’s unique Curse-Breaking work. Everywhere they went, Winter was enchanted by the local cuisine, jotting down recipes and experimenting when she got home. Now, in Hogwarts, she often recreates dishes like baozi, frikadeller, paella, oyakodon, and to Amit’s delight—Indian curry.
She frequently invites her friends to the Room of Requirement for her culinary experiments and is always on the lookout for rare ingredients. Thanks to her mother’s connections scattered in different parts of the world, Winter manages to have specific ingredients occasionally sent to her via owl.

love's all fair when you're checking the decisions between you and seungkwan on the basketball court on the island of jeju
pairing: seungkwan x reader themes: vacation!(Y/N), resort worker!seungkwan, jeju!seungkwan, there's no mention of caffeine but assume seungkwan still has his caffeine addiction 🤣 wc: ~2600 genre: fluff note: first fic released in a long while! hope you enjoy this AU :>
“I know you say you’re trying, but are you really?” Seungkwan teases you with a fiery tongue. He looks down at you as if the whole world is in his hand, the corner of his lips digging deep into his smirk. With the basketball cradled in his palm, you shoot daggers into his eyes. Who does he think he is, Troy Bolton?
You're the only two on the court at this late hour, but it's only because of the consequences of your own actions, all of which started just earlier that day.
It's your yearly vacation with your family and they decided, why not go to a resort where the destination is the journey itself?
As soon as you heard that come from your mom's mouth, you weren't sure what to make of the next week you'd be spending in Jeju, a place you'd been to a few times before. You've already visited the major attractions on the island, like hiking the Hallasan volcano, so what are a few more hikes? But realistically, who are you to deny your parents, the ones paying for the vacation in the first place?
Packing was difficult as you've thrown random clothing that you'll hope will make cute outfits when you're on the beachy island, and as soon as you know it, you're on the flight to Jeju, then in the shuttle to the resort, and then your ass is kissing the seat to a poolside view.
September is one of the best times to visit Jeju—the rainy season is starting to die down, but it's still bright and warm outside when there aren't any clouds. There aren't as many tourists at this time, but you've soon figured out that this is the time for locals to make the trip to Jeju so it's almost as crowded as you figured it would be. You suppose it's just another testament to how amazing Korea's geography can be.
As you sip on your drink, your mom beside you flips through one of the many brochures they handed her at check-in.
"Me and dad want to do a cooking class," she says after reading the description. "They'll teach us how to make paella; it's a Spanish rice dish."
"That sounds really yummy," you mindlessly reply, but as soon as you say that, she places one on your torso. "You want me to find things to do too?"
"Why not? Weren't you complaining and asking why we were coming back to Jeju? That's why I chose this place," your mom roughly says. "You don't have to do everything, but at least do something other than staying by the pool all day."
"I guess," you grumble, finally opening the pamphlet. There are a lot of things to try out: surfing and scuba diving caught your eye, but you weren't sure how you'd fare with those very physical activities. When you flip to the other side of the paper, your eyes are drawn to the left side. "Mom, they have an activity center for people my age—"
"Try it out! It'll be fun. Maybe you can go there after lunch and see what things they have planned for the day."
Lunch comes and goes and you have no choice but to venture off on your own, as your parents decided they want to do a wine tasting in the downtown area, taking the rental car with them.
Your first step is to approach the reception area, where you find a young man, probably around your age, manning the desk.
"Hi, good afternoon, how can I help you?" His full cheeks give him a boyish look, and his messy hair just adds to his appearance. He's wearing the same linen shirt the other staff you've seen wear, but on him, it looks just a little bit better.
"I was wondering if you have any information on the young adult activity center here. I saw it in one of the brochures."
A smile beams on his face. "You've come to the right place. I'm the worker in charge of the young adult activity center. I'm Seungkwan."
He puts out a hand for you to shake, and you accept it right away. "My name is (Y/N), it's nice to meet you," you reply back. "When are there usually activities during the day? I'm staying at the resort until the end of the week."
"Usually every few hours is a light activity and sometimes, we do excursions. Let me check to see what we have for today."
As Seungkwan pulls up the schedule on his computer, you say, "You seem a little young to be working at a resort full-time?"
He chuckles, pulling his focus toward you. "This is actually my aunt's resort. I'm working with her until I manage to figure out what I want to do. But I am 21, so I'm not totally young."
"Oh, I'm only a little bit older than you. I'm just turned 22," you reply. "But this seems like a fun job."
"Yeah, I like it most of the time. I'm sort of thinking of going into the entertainment industry, so I'd say this is good practice." Seungkwan shrugs. "So, for today's schedule, we're planning on hiking around the Cheonjeyeon waterfalls. We'll meet at 3:30 so we can make it for the sunset and head back right after that."
"Sounds good. Where's the meeting spot?"
"It'll be right here at the reception desk. We usually have 5 to 10 people come around, especially for the hikes. And since we're at the end of summer and the beginning of autumn, not as many young adults are here." There's something in that sentence that makes you raise an eyebrow but you don't think further of it.
"I'll see you at 3:30 then," you smile. "See you later, Seungkwan."
You find him later on with a pair of sunglasses perched at the top of his head, waving around a tiny green flag. You can't help but laugh at how cutely he spins the flag in circles as he raises his hand high above his head.
"Hi Seungkwan," you say as you approach the group of 7 people so far. Most seem around your age but some have younger faces.
"Hi, (Y/N). You look ready to hike," he smiles and leans in toward your ear, making you feel some type of way when his breath tickles your ear when he speaks. "Some people seem like they've been forced to come by their parents."
You chuckle at his hushed tone and take a good look around you, where everyone is wearing completely different styles that might not be the best for hiking to a waterfall. One guy is wearing an all-white outfit, and you know that can't be good news for a hike.
"I suppose you get this often then?" You ask, as you turn away from him and you rummage through your backpack to find the sunscreen that you'll definitely need with the sun's rays still beating down at this time.
Seungkwan's eyes are stuck on your hands as they glide the sunscreen along your arms and shoulders, not even able to answer your question. He bites his lip as he can see you try to reach the exposed parts of your back with your fingers that just can't find a way there, but he keeps his mouth shut.
"Can," you look back at him with a pleading smile. "Can you put sunscreen on the parts I can't get?"
He doesn't have much of a choice and he accepts the bottle with a flushed face. "Sure," he says, squeezing the product onto his hand and watching the cream soak into your skin. He's embarrassed to admit that he knows the spots on your back that didn't get covered.
"Thanks!" You beam with a bright smile as you turn toward him, not knowing that he'll be thinking about that moment for a long while.
"Bye, Seoyeong, it was nice meeting you!" You wave to a girl who leaves almost as soon as the group returns to the lobby. She doesn't say much back, but you hope you'll get to see her again in the next few days that you're still here.
As people start to break ways, you're reluctant to leave. "Do people usually leave right away, or do they hang around?" You ask Seungkwan. He says he's still on the clock, whether he's with the young adults' group or he returns to manning the front desk, so it doesn't matter much to him how he spends the last part of his day.
"Most leave right away, but you're more than welcome to hang around if you want." Seungkwan smiles and it's the first time you've felt like you want to absolutely squish his cheeks.
You fold your fingers tight, not letting them leave your side. "You don't mind?"
"Of course not. We can get to know each other better, and," he glances down at his watch. "I get off of work in 45 minutes and that was a pretty hefty hike, so we can grab food if you want? I can take you somewhere outside of the resort."
...Is this a date?
After letting your mother know that you're off to eat dinner with one of the people you've met at the hike, you click your seatbelt buckle and are ready to go wherever he leads you. Never mind the fact that you've known him for half the day—you are usually more aware than this—but you just feel good about Seungkwan. Something feels right about him.
"Do you like hamburgers?" Seungkwan asks as he adjusts the mirrors of his car. You can feel your heart pattering against your chest from such a domestic action.
"Yeah. I get them often with my friends after classes." You go deeper into conversation about your academic aspirations when he wonders what courses you're taking, and it's nice, to say the least. You enjoy getting to know someone better and it definitely doesn't hurt that you find him attractive. Maybe he's just being nice and maybe he's done this with other people who have been to the resort and met up with him, but you're only here for a few days anyway. If things don't work out, it's fine.
Seungkwan's a smooth driver as you glaze over his appearance: his brown hair floating up and down when the wind blows through it, the wire glasses that perch on his nose, and a smile that comes about often when he's speaking. He doesn't let the conversation drop, making sure he's nodding his head in acknowledgment while also keeping his eyes on the road.
As he approaches the parking lot of the restaurant, you mention that parking is so difficult.
"No, it's pretty easy," Seungkwan shakes his head. He removes his hand from the wheel and places it on the back of your seat as he reverses the car into the space.
"Easy for you to say," you mutter, trying to look in the side mirror if your face can get any redder.
After you head into the restaurant and order your food, you look out the window and even a simple hamburger place has the best views. "I wouldn't see the ocean while eating a burger like this in Seoul."
"Just another great thing about Jeju," Seungkwan says as he digs into his burger. "This is my favorite burger place, I go here pretty often whenever I finish a shift."
"I like your shirt, by the way. It looks good on you," you blurt out and you can't help but take a huge bite of your burger so you can shut up.
Seungkwan sets down his burger and covers his laugh with a napkin. "Thanks," he replies after he settles down. It's a simple outfit—just a blue button-up with a white inner shirt, but it's the rolled-up sleeves that do it for you.
You move on from that topic as soon as you can.
"Thanks for taking me there, Seungkwan," You grin as you walk out potbellied after the meal. "And thank you for paying for me too, you didn't have to."
"Just wanted to show you around is all, so it's my pleasure."
You're not quite sure what he means of it, but he brings you to a walkway that leads down to the coast. "This is a nice place to walk along," you say as your shoes crush the sand below you.
"Yeah, I usually like to exercise after my meals, especially with burgers," he laughs at himself.
The two of you walk in silence for a little bit, taking in the sights and sounds of Jeju, a place Seungkwan has known forever and a place you're just here to touch on for a few days.
"Hey," Seungkwan pipes up. "Do you like basketball?"
“You suck, Kwan,” you say, as you jump, jump, jump. Your arm stretches out as far as you can, fingertips grazing his forearm each time your feet leave the ground. “What happened to playing a fair game?”
You're surprised that you get the court all to yourselves. Seungkwan said that the courts close for guests around 9 at night, but since it's his aunt's resort, a key can solve all of his problems. The floodlights are still on, illuminating the green and white basketball court you stand on.
“This is fair!” He can’t help but to laugh. “You just can’t reach me because you’re short.” His eyes crinkle at the outer points, still keeping enough focus to maintain the ball in his possession. Damn you, Seungkwan.
Maybe it’s the heat, or maybe it’s all of the mixed signals he’s been giving you but ah, to hell with it. It’s time for you to get on the offense and make a move.
With a deep breath in and out, you wrap your arms around his waist, looking up at him with the softest eyes you could muster.
As soon as he feels contact on his body, only a layer of clothing between your fingers and his midriff, his face burns. And you have never seen Seungkwan flustered to a point that the ball falls from his hand immediately and bounces multiple times on the court.
His feet are frozen and his eyes land on you, even as you run after the ball and sink a shot that’s not the cleanest, but still swishes through the net.
Grabbing the ball, you saunter up as cool as you can, and hold the ball on your hip as you stand face-to-face. “Maybe that wasn’t fair, but I was trying at least.”
Your smart comment goes right over his head, as he’s still trying to process what the hell just happened.
"(Y/N)," he can only manage to utter, looking around to see if anyone saw what he just experienced. His eyes are wider than the full moon in the sky and he blinks a few times to shake off his surprise. "Yeah, I guess that would be trying." He puffs his cheeks and purses his lips, not knowing what else to say.
"I think you're cool Seungkwan."
"You do?"
"But I mean, do you do this with all the girls you meet when they come here for vacation?"
You have time to run away if need be, but you find yourself taking one, two, three steps closer to him.
"No," he replies, his voice softer than ever before. "Only you."

The True Story of the Villareal Family [2.2]
prev // home // next
It was the morning after the Villareal family came to visit the Von Haunt Estate, but there was one Villareal kid who never made it out.
───────────────✦───────────────
After Family Fun Day was canceled, Hugo had to head back into the hedge maze to exit the estate.
But, once again, he got lost in the shrubbery.
His family was long gone now (did they all forget about him?) and he was totally alone – or was he? The darker the night got, the more convinced he was that someone was following him.
Hugo began hyperventilating. Did nobody realize he was missing? Why wouldn’t his father answer his calls?
And, perhaps worst of all, he hadn’t eaten anything in three hours, not even a snack!
His tried to steady his breathing and go to his happy place. If only he could be back home in his kitchen, cutting himself a slice of the sourdough loaf he had baked a few days ago layered with thinly shaved slices of Manchego cheese and a smear of quince paste, or deep-frying croquetas filled with jamón ibérico and thick béchamel sauce, or of course, how could he forget, serving himself a heaping scoop of the duck paella he’d made yesterday – he’d even used up his little jar of ridiculously expensive saffron for this batch – since Mom had always said paella tasted better the day after cooking it.
His eyes fluttered with exhaustion.
If Hugo was about to have his last thoughts, he wanted them to be about food and his mother.
He wandered aimlessly through the maze until he could no more,
then collapsed on the ground, vision fading, blurry shapes swirling around him.
The last thing he remembered before passing out was the smell of iron.
───────────────✦───────────────
Next thing he knew, Hugo was waking up on a bench near the entrance to the museum.
The sun was already up, and checking his phone, he realized that school was about to start.
So, hungry, exhausted, and mildly traumatized, he slogged to class.
At least he was finally free of that horrible hedge maze, even if he didn’t know how he’d made it out. Alive, apparently. But otherwise, he had no clue what had happened.
───────────────✦───────────────
Meanwhile, with the kids away at school, Jacques was starting to execute the most villainous plans he had ever concocted in his entire life.
And those plans began with remodeling their pool.
───────────────✦───────────────

Tell us about a memory you hold close to your heart.
Tea, Coffee, or hot cocoa?
Have you ever received flowers?
Who is your bestfriend?
If your soul was a color, what would it be?
If you could live anywhere with anyone you want, where would it be and who would you bring?
What do your hobbies look like?
Golly that's a lotta questions (idm tho:33), I'm gonna add a cut tho cause I yap a lot
1. I'd say either this too shall pass by danny schmidt or friday I'm in love
2. Honestly I'm not sure, I tend to nitpick shows after watching them which kinda ruins it for me💀 but probably scrubs, it's one of the few shows I can rewatch without getting bored
3. Idk if it means favourite physical feeling or emotional feeling lol, but physically anything soft and fluffy. Emotionally the feeling I get when I'm talking to someone I love and it feels like, for a brief moment, that everythings going to be okay
4. Sometimes I'm not sure if I ever really feel like myself, but honestly with my ex that was one of the few times I felt like myself.
5. Honestly most of my childhood was pretty shit, my parents aren't great ngl💀. But it'd probably be the first time my cat decided to sit on my lap, I just love her so much and she means the world to me
6. It was when I was at summer camp, I was telling my friends about bigfin squid and went of on a tangent about a guy I had a crush on. And I said "I need to stop talking about him, I need to tell you about squids." And then "that's so autismcore of me" (squids are a special interest lol) I did manage to tell them about the squids eventually
7. My ikea shark, his name's lilith and he's big enough that I can properly hug him and it makes me feel so much better, or this green hoodie I have it heavy enough that it helps when I'm overwhelmed:3 and really soft and warm
8. I'm not great at calming down honestly I'm getting better at it though. I usually listen to stuff like cavetown to calm myself down tho
9. Neither really helps me relax, I don't like looking at my body. I'd rather just have a nap
10. In the short term? My photoraphy class I have a great group of friends and my teachers great too, I really love them all. In the long term? Finally moving out and starting my medical transition, it's a long way off but I'll get there eventually
11. Probably paella or chicken korma, my dad used to cook it a lot when I still spoke to him. Also not a food but a nice cup of tea is always comforting
12. I have so many ideas honestly, I want to make a film, I have multiple photoshoot ideas, and I have a lot of other projects that'll probably never come to fruition
13. Probably just when someone's there for me and is willing to learn all the little things about me like how I drink tea, or my favourite colour or the fact that I never wear gold jewelery because I hate how it looks
14. Probably mid 20s and up that's around the age I'm hoping I can start T and I want to get top surgery before 30
15. My sister doing my nails for prom, she's always been there for me and we had such a great conversation I honestly really appreciate her
16. Tea 100% although hot chocolate is great for winter I couldn't drink it every day (living up to the bri'ish allegations)
17. No I've never gotten flowers, one day I'd love to though (wether it's platonic or romantic I don't mind)
18. Honestly I'm not sure if I really have a bestfriend, sometimes I feel like I'm always everyone's second choice in life y'know
19. I wanna say green because I like green but probably red and/or blue
20. A decent sized cottage with a massive garden in a forest, somewhere that's warm and sunny but not boiling y'know. I'm not sure who I'd bring honestly I'm not sure who'd even want to go with me
21. All my hobbies are in some way creative, I just find any others boring. Like photography, drawing, embroidery. I also can't stand any athletic hobbies, I've tried but they all either bore me or are too competitive.

CHAOS COOKING CUIT CHARACTER CARD #1
━
In Dilettanto, it was the wettest season of the year. Tonight, the rain was falling hard. Spattering loudly across the windows. CUIT : Today is the day. Cuit circled a date on his calendar with the words, "Cooking Class!", scribbled across it. EMMA : The time is finally here! CUIT : It's so weird, I feel nervous and excited at the same time.
Cuit had been assigned by Oscar to hold a cooking class for the people of Dilettanto. Cuit and Itsuki had finished their rehearsal, now it was time for full-fledged preparation. EMMA : How many students do you plan on accepting? CUIT : Hm…It's only the first class, so let's just dip our toes in and start with ten people. I'm not sure how long prep is going to take. EMMA : Didn't Oscar already prepare everything? CUIT : Yes…The facilities and the space should be plenty big enough to fit everyone… And we have plenty of ingredients… I guess I'm just feeling a lot of pressure. EMMA : Really? EMMA : (Oscar is expecting a lot out of him, so it makes sense…) CUIT : So, I've been going over menu options to teach the students, but I can't quite figure out what I want to do. What kind of menu do you think would be good? EMMA : Well, we don't know who will be judging the food, so maybe we should keep it simple? Something everyone can enjoy? You should also pick ingredients and seasons that are easily prepared. That way the students can reproduce it from their homes. CUIT : Hm, then maybe we should do some home cooked meals that people typically eat on special occasions? EMMA : That sounds like a great idea! Like food that people serve at house parties! Ooh! We should have side dishes too! CUIT : ……….. EMMA : Cuit, what's wrong? CUIT : I was just thinking about how much you've been helping me out. You really don't have to waste your time with this. I know you're busy. EMMA : I'm the one who offered to help you, Cuit. Besides, I'm looking forward to the class. CUIT : What? Why? EMMA : Because I'm a huge fan of your cooking! I want to taste it all, and I also want to learn from you personally. CUIT : Thank you. It means so much to me that you are a fan of my cooking. The look he gave me was so full of passion and gratitude, it left me breathless. I attempted to refocus... EMMA : Um…About what we were talking about… CUIT : Right. We need to think of a menu. A dish that is easy to make, but still has a special feel to it. Hmm… How about Paella? EMMA : Isn't Paella quite difficult to make? CUIT : Actually, it's pretty easy once you get the hang of it. EMMA : Huh, really? Then sure! Add it to the menu. CUIT : Alright. Now I just need to arrange the ingredients and work out the details, then I can get permission from Oscar. EMMA : Sounds good. Report back to me once you have his approval. CUIT : Will do. EMMA : Okay, I'll leave you to it. CUIT : Ah, Emma! EMMA : Yes? CUIT : Thank you so much for helping me. EMMA : Any time. As I heard the sound of rain pattering across the window in the distance, my cheeks flooded with heat and as Cuit flashed me a big, bright smile.

Golf and Gastronomy: A Culinary Journey on Your Golf Break in Spain
Planning a golf break in Spain, many enthusiasts envision stunning courses framed by breathtaking landscapes, the crisp air filled with the promise of a perfect swing. However, what often goes overlooked is the delightful culinary experience that accompanies golfing in this vibrant nation. Spain isn't just a haven for golfers; it's also a gastronomic paradise that beckons visitors with its rich flavors, diverse cuisines, and unique regional dishes. This article will reveal how you can indulge in a memorable culinary journey while enjoying your golf retreat.
The Allure of Spanish Cuisine
Spain's culinary landscape is as diverse as its geography. Each region boasts its specialties, combining traditional recipes with fresh, locally sourced ingredients. From succulent seafood along the coasts to hearty stews in the mountainous areas, the variety is astonishing. In regions like Catalonia, Andalusia, and the Basque Country, you can find a symphony of flavors that range from the robust and fiery to the subtle and delicate.
Imagine starting your day with a hearty breakfast before heading to your tee time. A classic Spanish breakfast might include tostada con tomate (toasted bread with fresh tomato), drizzled with olive oil and accompanied by a cup of rich café con leche. After a few hours on the course, you’ll want to refuel with a leisurely lunch. Picture yourself savoring paella in Valencia, the birthplace of this iconic dish, or indulging in fresh tapas in Seville while recounting your best shots of the day.
Golf Courses with Culinary Delights Nearby
One of the greatest advantages of booking your golf break in Spain through platforms like TeeTimesBooking is the ability to explore extraordinary golf courses that are often situated near some of the best dining experiences. For instance, the Costa del Sol region is renowned not only for its luxurious courses but also for its vibrant culinary scene. After a round of golf at one of the area's prestigious clubs, you can unwind at a seaside restaurant, relishing fresh seafood and traditional dishes like fried fish or gambas al pil-pil.
In Barcelona, you can tee off at the picturesque Club de Golf Montanyà, followed by a gastronomic adventure in the city. Here, you can explore Catalan cuisine, with dishes like escalivada (grilled vegetables) and crema catalana (a delightful custard dessert) awaiting you. Many golf resorts also offer on-site dining options where you can enjoy gourmet meals prepared by top chefs, allowing you to indulge without straying far from the greens.
A Blend of Sport and Taste
The beauty of a golf break in Spain lies in the seamless blend of sport and culinary excellence. After an exhilarating day on the course, consider joining a local cooking class or a food tour. Many regions offer immersive experiences where you can learn about the ingredients that define Spanish cuisine, such as saffron, olives, and cured meats. Participating in these activities not only enhances your understanding of the local culture but also allows you to bring a taste of Spain back home.
For those who enjoy the art of wine, the Andalusia region is famous for its Sherry. Post-golf, you can visit a local winery, where guided tours offer insights into the production process, along with tastings that pair beautifully with regional dishes. This experience enriches your golf journey, turning it into a holistic adventure that tantalizes all your senses.
Exploring Local Markets and Festivals
To truly appreciate the culinary culture of Spain during your golf break, take the time to explore local markets. Markets like La Boqueria in Barcelona or Mercado de Triana in Seville are treasure troves of fresh produce, artisan cheeses, and cured meats. Strolling through these markets, you’ll be captivated by the colors, sounds, and aromas that define the Spanish food scene. You might even find the perfect picnic supplies to enjoy on the golf course or at a nearby park.
Furthermore, timing your trip to coincide with local food festivals can elevate your culinary experience. Festivals such as La Tomatina in Buñol or the San Sebastián Gastronomika celebration highlight Spain’s dedication to food and culture. Participating in these events allows you to immerse yourself in both the local gastronomy and the vibrant community spirit, making your golf break in Spain even more memorable.
Conclusion: A Culinary Golf Escape
In conclusion, a golf break in Spain is much more than just hitting the greens. It’s an opportunity to embark on a culinary adventure that complements your love for the sport. With each swing of the club, you’ll be savoring the flavors of the region, from fresh seafood to exquisite wines, and experiencing the warmth of Spanish hospitality.

Week 8: Saying goodbye to Madrid
Hola! Lilly from Madrid here. I am sad to accept that my studies in Spain have come to a close. It feels like I finally found my groove here. Packing and preparing for my post-study travels, I find myself thrust into the bittersweet reality of parting ways with my new friends (I will literally see them in 3 weeks) and a city that I will always be fond of. While my travels won’t end here, the pocket of time, the surreal feeling that is being abroad, is overwhelmingly over. An abrupt and chaotic ending if anything. Between finals, presentations, and an unexpected ER visit (I’m okay!) I still find myself grappling for closure.
Since I haven’t done so already, I thought for today I would go over what to expect for classes to give you a sense of what to expect as a student in Madrid. I will also add a list of recommendations for those of you planning to travel here!
The thing that I loved particularly about this study abroad experience was the balance between school and having time to explore and experience the Madrileño culture. Plus, no class on Friday!
My schedule was as follows:
Mondays and Wednesdays:
08:15 am - Calculus (3 hour block, with small break)
12:00 pm - Sustainable Development (or elective)
Monday - Thursday:
12:00 pm - Sustainable Development (or elective)
Although the early mornings were tough, it kept me productive. I found it a little difficult to maintain focus in Calc for that duration, but I much preferred having this class only twice a week. As I mentioned in one of my earlier posts, lunch is typically the most important meal – the most filling at least – and wasn’t served until 1:30. This was perfect because I would get out of class just in time, then head back to take a quick siesta, which was when everything closed anyways. I love my power naps, and the built in time is during the hottest part of the day, so I never felt guilty for taking the time to decompress. Especially considering that Madrid is so vibrant and active at night.
As promised, here is a list of some of my favorite things to do in Madrid, as well as my favorite neighborhoods.
Things to do:
Roam - It seems obvious, but I tried to wander around a different neighborhood each week. So many neighborhoods, not enough time.
Hang out/Picnic at parks - El Retiro is the most famous in Madrid, but there are so many in each neighborhood.
Nightlife - This is a huge part of Madrid culture. Grab a sweet treat and hang out with some friends in a Plaza or tapas bar.
Hiking - There’s “hiking” (more so just trails) in Casa de Campo, or catch a bus to Cercedilla. The mountains in the national park are super accessible.
Cooking classes - These are super fun. I can make paella now :)
Concerts - Be sure to check if your favorite artists are in town. We also loved going to an orchestra performance!
Watch the sunset with friends. A good spot is in the grass across from the royal palace, but there is a better one… I cannot recall the name.
Go to the markets - El Rastro is the famous Sunday market, and I recommend going as early as possible (9:00 am I believe). San Miguel is popular, but on the more expensive side. San Fernando is more of a local spot in Lavapies, and has good Tapas.
Travel! Madrid is centrally located, and it’s easy to take a quick day trip by bus/train. We took advantage of having three day weekends, and visited many cities throughout Spain. Flights are typically cheaper as well if you were looking to travel around western Europe. Psst trains are the best! Use Omio to look for routes, it is typically cheapest here.
Food from a cafe, and a sunset from a plaza.
Neighborhoods:
Malasana - Best for fun nightlife
Usera and Lavapies - These are multicultural communities with AMAZING food options.
**City center - Stay away… there are lots of tourist traps and it is super expensive. There are some famous dessert places that are pretty good though.
Moncloa and Arguelles - This is where my classes were. These were nice areas with SO many restaurants, cafes, and fruit stands. It was very affordable to grab coffee between classes (Logic Coffee has amazing beans and makes a killer matcha latte) or enjoy a menu del dia. I think the most I paid for lunch here was 12-15 euro, and this included a beverage, two courses, and dessert or coffee. A steal!
I lived in Cuatro Caminos, but I preferred other neighborhoods. My favorite coffee shop in the area was Green Cafe, and there was a Gelateria close by. Otherwise, I would hang out elsewhere.
This is just to name a few! I feel like I barely scratched the surface in Madrid. I hope you love the city. I have but one post left. See you soon :)
