ACING THE BOARD EXAMINATION
Dr. M Ramachandran, Secretary General, The National UN Volunteers-India
Most state and Union Territory Educational Boards, CBSE, ICSE, IB, IGCSE and NIOS, have released notifications about the upcoming Class 10th and 12th Board Examination. The National Testing Agencies and Union Public Service Commission (UPSC) have released the dates for various competitive exams for admission to professional courses but also conducted and brought out the results of examinations like CLAT 2024.
Here are a few tips that enable a rational Class X and XII (PUC) student to score maximum marks in the Board Examinations.
1. Plan a self-study time-table
Once examinees get their date sheets, they must make a scientific plan to prepare for the examinations. Normally, the students prepare their daily lesson plan/revision according to the school/college timetable. For many students, Saturdays/Sundays or holidays are a no time table day. Students waste their prime time on non-academic matters. Remember the idiom ‘Practice makes a man perfect’. Allotment of personal time for revising the topics, themes, concepts, solving the previous years’ question papers, etc., is a good learning practice which enables the students to score maximum marks.
2. Check the syllabus
Refer to your subject syllabus and the scope of the syllabus. All state / Union Territory / CBSE / ICSE and other examination boards have released the curriculum for the concerned year of examination. Schools/colleges have scheduled their annual lesson plans accordingly. The question paper-setting committees do not give questions out of the given syllabus. Textbooks published by NCERT, SCERT and a few private publishers bring out the syllabus for that particular year of examination. The students or parents are not aware of the syllabus. They should contact their wards’ subject teachers and get a syllabus copy. Those students who prepare/revise the exam materials as per the syllabus for that year’s exam can score better marks.
3. Sample question paper
In common practice, the concerned forms, such as blueprints, patterns of question papers, marking schemes, etc., are familiar to teachers or examiners. Students can also grab the details of such examination matters and score good marks. All the above documents and materials are available on the websites of various examination boards. For example, Karnataka State Board Class X can download the KSEEB, SSLC blueprint 2024 directly from its webpage. The blueprint includes subject-wise names of the topics/chapters and their mark’s weightage. Understanding the blueprint or marking scheme will stimulate the candidate’s confidence to write better in the Board Examinations. The subject-wise weightage allotted to each topic in all subjects can be downloaded by the students from the concerned Boards portals.
4. Time management skills
Using the given time during the examination is challenging for many students. For this practice, solving previous years’ questionnaires is a good experience. The first 15 minutes are allotted as question paper reading time by all the Boards. But the questions will carry only marks, not the question-wise timings. The time allotted to attempt the whole question paper is printed on the top of the question papers. Many schools or state boards like Karnataka School Education conduct preparatory or pre-board examinations to familiarise students with time management skills. The research has proved that those students who practise/solve previous years’ question papers or attempt pre-finals can score better marks in the final exams.
Quizzing oneself is the strongest self-study technique. Self-examination is a good exercise which helps retention and comprehension. It includes setting up questions, sitting and writing the same questions following the duration, assessing the self-written answers, etc., which will boost the students’ confidence and enable them to make temporary corrections.
A final word to the students........
¹Be optimistic and confident
²Compete with yourself to improve previous scores
³Be determined, focused, self-motivated
⁴Give equal importance to both marks and knowledge
⁵Learn from past failures/success
⁶Understand that success needs several chances/attempts
⁷Eat nutritious food; stay healthy and hydrated
⁸Be always in the mind’s comfort zone
(The writer is the Principal of Coorg Public School and PU College, Gonikoppal)

Steps to Buying a Second-hand Car on EMI
Bying a second hand car isn’t difficult. With access to tons and tons of sellers and car dealers at a mouse click, you can easily buy one on EMI. Today, Car Kharido Becho 24 is here with a step-by-step guide to buying a second hand car on EMI.
Things to consider before buying a second hand car on EMI
Before you purchase your new “second hand car on EMI”, it is important to consider the following things:
Choose your car dealer wisely.
Many people choose to buy second-hand cars from used-car dealers. The advantage of buying from these dealers is that the chances of receiving a faulty car are minimal. You can trust used-car dealers for having thoroughly inspected and tested the cars they sell. In addition, most dealers provide a buy here, pay here financing option. You can use them to finance your second-hand car on an EMI basis. However, the interest rates offered by second-hand car dealers are usually higher than those offered by financial institutions. But at Car Kharido Becho 24, we initiate seamless buying, and that too at a reasonable interest rate.
Proper documentation.
Before buying a second-hand car on EMI, it is advisable to check for the RC as well as the insurance documents. The registration paper or RC consists of important information regarding the car such as its engine number and chassis number. Before you buy a pre-owned car, make sure the information on the RC matches what is inscribed on the car parts. Also, make sure the paper is not a duplicate RC, and if it is, ask the seller why. Before you buy a second-hand car on EMI, ask for the car's insurance papers. Check to see if the previous buyer paid the premiums on time as well as the claim history and policy's expiration date. If you intend to transfer the policy in your name, you should start the process well before the sale. In addition to that, driving a car without a Pollution Under Control (PUC) certificate can attract a penalty. Therefore, before you buy a second-hand car on EMI, make sure you obtain the PUC certificate from the previous owner or seller.

Look at the service book.
Reviewing a service book is one of the most crucial aspects that buyers should consider before purchasing a second-hand car. By checking the service history of the car, you can easily find out the exact condition of the car.
Check whether the previous owner has paid the road tax or not.
On purchasing a new car, you must pay the one-time road tax at the time of vehicle registration. So, before you buy a used car, check if the previous owner has paid the road tax. If you find that the tax has not been paid on time, you should avoid purchasing the vehicle since it might result in legal issues as well as the payment of a hefty fine that has accrued over time. Road taxes in India usually range from 2% to 18%, depending on the state.
How to buy a second hand car on EMI?
At Car Kharido Becho 24, you can apply for a second-hand car loan—both online and offline—with any reputed financial institution. Here’s how you can do it:

Report to Texas PUC Plans to Overhaul Power Market
Report to Texas PUC Plans to Overhaul Power Market
How Will the TX Power Market Change?
The Texas PUC has proposed a new PCM plan to overhaul the power market. Find out how these changes could increase your electricity rates!
Back May 2021, the PUC contracted Energy and Environmental Economics, Inc (E3) to assess three long term market proposals (known as the “Blueprint”). On November 11, 2022, the PUC released the E3 assessment, entitled Assessment of Market Reform Options to Enhance Reliability. But instead one of the Blueprint proposals, E3 and the PUC chose their own “hybrid” model to overhaul the Texas power market.
Replacing a Crisis Model
The PUC voted unanimously to pursue this hybrid option called the “Performance Credit Mechanism” or PCM. Under the PCM plan, ERCOT would be a clearing house for power plants that remain on during peak demand. This is different from the current model where ERCOT pays generators more as demand sharply increases prices. PUC Chairman Peter Lake has called this way a “crisis model”.
The PCM model, which some wags called “capacity-ish“, creates performance credits when reliability risk (and prices) get high. Generators and REPs could buy and sell these credits. REPs can later use these credits later during price settlement when rates are set according to an administrative demand curve. The plan leaves both ERCOT and power plants free to juggle resources before peak demand times hit. However, the providers will ultimately be liable to pay for keeping the lights on.
Ironically, even though the PUC pushed for a plan as a result of extreme winter weather, it’s not addressed in the PCM plan at all. And that’s a concerning oversight. However, before anything changes, the Texas Legislature must weigh in as well. The regular legislative session starts in January. So, the public is still a few months away from hearing from lawmakers on the issue. And the final call will come even later.
Texas Power Market Costs
The plan could cost Texas customers $460 million per year. State leaders have balked at the prices of similar changes because of their price tags raising utility charges. In this case, costs will likely land landed on consumers in the form of higher electricity rates. And those things don’t help win elections. However, they are likely needed for a strong power grid.
The February 2021 freeze showed the state could not keep operating the power market as it had before. The proposed PCM plan shows who will bear the costs to improve electric reliability in Texas. It’s not perfect. Home power bills will almost surely increase. But again, doing nothing is a bad option. Deaths and property damage say so.
Public Comment on the Power Market Plan
Members of the public can comment on the report between now and mid-December. Then, the PUC will vote on a final plan. Certainly, PUC members or staff will testify during the legislative session on why the PUC chose its course of action. And, of course, lawmakers will consider related bills which could codify a way forward. Industry players will weigh in as well. The debate is far from over.

How does one register a vehicle in a different state?
Shifting to a different state seems both exhilarating and worrisome. A new career and location shift are all on your wish list. However, it would help if you also managed all the hassles of moving, such as complying with all applicable procedures like registering your automobile in a new state. If you're adjusting to a different state, here are some procedures you can take to register your vehicle.
Request for a NOC- The first stage in registering your vehicle in a different state is to visit your previous state and obtain a No Objection Certificate (NOC) from the local police, RTO, or other appropriate authorities. The certification states that the registration authorities have no objections to the vehicle receiving a new registration marking. Moreover, you also need a police report indicating that no auto theft charges have been reported or are ongoing. It must ensure that no money owed to the car, such as the government's vehicle tax, is payable. You should also have a bank NOC if you purchased your automobile or via a Bank Hypothecation.
Collect all of Your Documents: After receiving the NOC, you'll need to gather additional paperwork to guarantee a proper registration of your automobile in a different state. The authentic documentation for the vehicle is as follows:
Smart card
Pollution Under Control (PUC) certificate
RC
Address and ID proof,
Insurance Papers
Invoice
Fill out the Essential Forms and Submit the Documents-You need to fill out several important forms for registering your vehicle in another state. Each of these forms will require its charges to be paid. It would be best if you focused on the State Crime Record Bureau report and CVM forms, namely, Form 27, Form 28, and Form 33. Once you have all the documents and these filled forms, you must submit them.
Re-registration in a Different State-Your NOC will get a validity date that depends on the state you're relocating to. Therefore, you will have to re-register in the new state within the same time frame. You must deposit the necessary road tax (which varies by state) and request registration. Ask For a Temporary Registration. You can ask either for a provisional registration or new license plates for your vehicle. The new license plates will be sent to you if you register temporarily.
Physical assessment-Somebody from the RTO department will personally examine and certify the vehicle. Indeed, they will not be accessible most of the time, but you will have to pay a ransom or hire a broker to speed up the procedure.
Obtain the Certificate of Registration-Following the verification completion; you can verify the day you will be able to pick up your RC for the new state.
Wait till the Procedure Completes-Your previous RC is erased. Therefore, you can only have some challans and paperwork to show local officers that proves the initiation of the re-registration procedures. Transferring your registration to another state is a complex process that may take months or even years. However, you will be eligible to drive your vehicle in the new state.
Request a Refund from the RTO in your Home State(MP RTO) -You must return to your home state RTO (MP RTO) following re-registration and request a proportional reimbursement of the lifetime tax paid.
What Happens If You Don't Use RC Transfer When Driving a Vehicle?
You cannot neglect RC transfer as you can't operate a vehicle on the street without a valid driver's license. This law applies if you cross state lines to make a substantial move to a new city. If you operate your vehicle for more than a year without having your RC transferred, the traffic officer can: - Detain your vehicle for a certain period. - Charge fines and penalties according to the rules. As a result, receiving the RC transfer is crucial.
