Fun fact: I call my liver specialist my Snake Doctor, because I can't be trusted to consistently remember the difference between hepatologists and herpatologists so why not cut out the middle man and make the mistake boldly and intentionally.
#I also call getting a blood draw “getting phlebotomized”#these are turns of phrase that are alarming to people unused to me.

"You're in good hands. This isn't my first time." Only around fifteen personally, but the nurse she'd leeched the skill off had been doing it for years. If she was surprised by the history present on Nicole's arm, she didn't show it. Doesn't matter where you've been, it's where you're going. Avoiding the scarred sites, Riley traced the median cephalic vein. That was the best-bet vein for most cases, or so history not her own told her.
Riley donned nitrile gloves (better to use that than latex and avoid the problem of allergy entirely), applied the tourniquet with practiced ease. "Alright, make a fist. No need to look at the site. Gaze into my beautiful eyes instead." She fluttered her lashes over-coquettishly. "One, two, three, pinch..." Yep, in without trouble. "We'll stick with just your sample for now." They had to be prepared and stored, after all -- mini-fridge space wasn't unlimited, and it had to be backed up with its own generator to avoid spoilage, and...
"Once this whole debacle's been settled and you're in the bank's good books, have the other hemo-circular members of your organization come in so I can set them too. I've been working on ways to sync with constructs, but no success yet." Since I'm doing you a favor, make your friend a guinea pig. No, I can't say that. "And done. One, two, three, out, and apply pressure here." She bit back on the urge to bury Nicole with praise, as was the nurse's habit -- working at a kid doctor's (couldn't remember the term) would do that. "And to seal it, one more pinch..." Her glove pulled off, and her thumb pressed in the site -- a touch of heat, and it was cauterized. Maybe a bit show-offy, but whatever, it wasn't like she was pretending to be completely clean.
"Okey-dokey. All good. Takes about a week to process so take some time off raidin' and focus on fixin' your finances before then, okay?" Mostly a joke.
A grin slid across her face before she turned back to face her successful catch. She knew that Riley could have just said no, it would have been easy enough. Maybe she thought Nicole was attractive? That was always a chance. Maybe she just needs more business to establish herself? No matter the reasoning, her face reflected a kind and welcoming approach.
"Your reconsideration is greatly appreciated, Miss Riley. I sincerely hope we can establish a wonderful working relationship."
Looking at the kit and seeing that she needed a blood sample for her 'magic' to work, a chill ran up her spine. She didn't have a fear of needles, but she never cared for them. Too many times were the mistakes of untrained care takers having to take samples as she grew up.
"As for Billy, if need be I can always take on that role. It'd be a pleasure to work closely with you."
She moved the chair closer to Riley's desk and extended her right arm across the table, pulling down her fashionable sleeve to expose her slightly marred skin. Noticeable scarring in places from uncaring or inexperienced attempts to withdraw blood that has clearly aged. Not enough to warrant changing arms or being unable to draw a sample, but clearly whomever touched her arm in the past did not know what they were doing. She winked playfully at the proxy with a slow exhale.
"Be gentle."

Tried to have an MRI with contrast just now. I say "tried" because the tech stuck me six times and still couldn't get a vein. He was also pretty aggressive about pounding on the joints to get the vein to pop up, so now both my elbows and both my wrists ache considerably. I suspect user error, since while I'm a slightly harder stick than average, I'm not that hard. The downside about an after hours appointment is he was the only one there who could phlebotomize so no one else could take a whack at it.
Hopefully the non-contrast version they were able to get is enough to rule out anything dire. My hierarchy of desired outcomes is:
My infected tooth was behind all the headache/face ache business and pulling it has fixed everything;
MRI reveals something anatomical that's easily fixable with no complications;
It's migraine, and whatever migraine meds we throw at it will work with a minimum of trial and error.
I finished my post-tooth-extraction/AS flare steroids on Tuesday. My face still hurts, but it's largely around where the tooth was pulled, not further up, so I think I can attribute it to the tooth extraction rather than weird headache disorder. (From experience, I have at least another week and possibly up to four more weeks of pain to go. Hooray for nervous system sensitization due to chronic pain.) I won't trust that it was the tooth all along until at least another month has passed, though.

Vital Tips for Crafting a Winning Phlebotomist Resume Objective: Stand Out in Your Job Search!
Essential Tips for Crafting a Winning Phlebotomist Resume Objective: Stand Out in Your Job Search!
In today’s competitive job market, a well-crafted resume can make all the difference in securing the position you desire. For phlebotomists, where clinical skills and patient interaction are crucial, your resume objective needs to reflect your qualifications, experience, and intentions clearly and concisely. This article will provide practical tips on creating an effective phlebotomist resume objective that will catch the attention of hiring managers.
Understanding the Importance of a Resume Objective
A resume objective is a brief statement found at the top of your resume outlining your career goals and what you bring to the role. It serves as an introduction and should encapsulate your motivations as well as your relevant skills. Here are some reasons why a strong resume objective is essential:
Highlights your intentions and career goals.
Sets the tone for the rest of your resume.
Shows your fit for the role and organization.
Elements of a Strong Phlebotomist Resume Objective
When crafting your resume objective, make sure to incorporate the following key elements:
Specificity: Tailor your objective to the specific job you are applying for. Include the job title and the name of the organization if possible.
Relevant Skills: Highlight the skills that are most relevant to the job, such as technical abilities, customer service skills, and adherence to safety protocols.
Career Aspirations: Mention your goals in the phlebotomy field and how you aim to contribute to the organization.
Essential Tips for Writing a Winning Phlebotomist Resume Objective
Here are some effective strategies to create a standout resume objective:
Keep it Concise: Your resume objective should be 1-2 sentences long, focused on clarity.
Use Action Words: Start your statement with strong action verbs like “dedicated,” “skilled,” or “trained” to demonstrate your value.
Quantify Achievements: If applicable, include numerical data to highlight your accomplishments (e.g., “performed over 1,000 blood draws with a 95% success rate”).
Show Passion: Incorporate your enthusiasm for the industry and your desire to provide exceptional patient care.
Examples of Effective Phlebotomist Resume Objectives
Here are some examples of strong phlebotomist resume objectives:
Job Title
Resume Objective Example
Experienced Phlebotomist
“Dedicated phlebotomist with 5 years of experience in performing blood draws and managing patient care, seeking to leverage skills in a fast-paced clinical environment at XYZ Medical Center.”
Entry-Level Phlebotomist
“Compassionate and detail-oriented recent graduate seeking to launch my career as a phlebotomist at ABC Lab, eager to utilize my clinical training and patient care skills.”
Phlebotomy Technician
“Certified phlebotomy technician with a proven track record of success in blood collection and laboratory procedures, aiming to enhance patient experience and operational efficiency at DEF Hospital.”
Benefits of a Strong Resume Objective
Having a strong resume objective can significantly enhance your job search outcomes. Here are a few benefits:
Enhanced Visibility: A clear and targeted objective can catch the eye of hiring managers, making your application more memorable.
Improved Focus: By defining your career goals, you can tailor your resume to showcase your most relevant experiences.
Stronger First Impression: A compelling objective sets a positive tone and encourages the reader to explore your resume further.
Commanding Attention: Additional Tips for Your Resume
In addition to a well-crafted resume objective, here are some additional tips to command attention in your phlebotomist resume:
Use Keywords: Research applicable keywords for the phlebotomist position in job listings and include them naturally in your resume.
Highlight Certifications: Include any relevant certifications, such as the National Phlebotomy Certification, to enhance your qualifications.
Focus on Achievements: Use bullet points to detail your past roles, focusing on achievements rather than just responsibilities.
Conclusion
a well-crafted phlebotomist resume objective is your ticket to standing out in a competitive job market. By focusing on specificity, relevant skills, and your career aspirations, you can create a powerful statement that grabs attention and showcases your qualifications. Combine this with a strong overall resume strategy, and you’ll be well-equipped to make a lasting impression on potential employers. Remember, your resume is often your first introduction to a hiring manager, so invest the time to make it shine!
