Adventure Time/Lemongrab-Princess Bubblegum Theory

Lemongrab was created to be everything Princess Bubblegum loved, believed in, wanted, preferred, feared, hated about herself and saw the world as. To be everything she was and still is.

The problem arose after he was "born" when PB found that he just wasn't those things—in the exact way she had desired him to be. This caused her great disappointment and led to her associating LG with disappointment and, on some level, insult to her person. She very likely sees/saw herself in LG, no matter how warped he gets/got, because of her reasons for creating him. He literally IS her. Just male and more extreme/dramatic. Like a living symbol of her pain, made real, and a constant reminder of what could have been.

Even his sourness could be seen as being somewhat based on who she is/her essence. Sure, she's closer to what we would consider regular, everyday candy than him; but let's compare her to the other candy people. Bubblegum in general is less sugary than other forms of candy and is more unstable and unpredictable, too. (Ever gotten gum stuck to your shoe?) She's not sour, but she's not very sweet either. Or edible, if we're being honest. (Even lemons/lemon candy are typically okay to eat.) This, along with her general personality, worldview and disposition, puts a large amount of separation between her—along with LG—and the candy people.

This also leads me to believe that this is why PB seems, on some level, stuck on/attached to LG. Despite everything. It's due to sensing those sorta-intentional similarities and wanting to preserve their existence. Maybe she's always thinking about what could potentially be, or she just refuses to let go of and forget about the happy memories and fantasies related/connected to that which will likely never change.

It should also be noted that the show doesn't shy away from the belief that what you are will definitely affect who you become. All candy people are on some level sweet and that sweetness partly or fully dictates how they think and act. This helps to explain why LG is always so disgruntled and in pain. He's candy and he knows it. He was made by the Queen/Goddess of Candy herself to be an heir or friend/family member of some sort. Yet, he often feels out of place and like a mistake due to that sourness, and how different it is from the other candy people's sweetness. Perhaps PB should have made and integrated more sour candy before or after LG was created, to make the kingdom more bitter-friendly and inclusive?

Anyway, that's my thoughts on that. Princess Bubblegum made Lemongrab to be like herself in many if not all regards. He just didn't turn out to be the right amount of "like herself" that she'd hoped for or would/could tolerate. That is, he was arguably too much like herself, as opposed to not enough.

THE KING: ETERNAL MONARCH EP 9, My Appreciation and How It Made Me Feel

The other person Gon would like to see first is Lady Noh. I appreciate all actors working in this series because they have a good chemistry with all characters involved here. Im a fan of Gon and Lady Noh relationship, reminds me of my grandmother. She is always so understanding but here when she says she knows everything, later we will found out that indeed she knows EVERYTHING. I love how she says (while looking at the flute, also the camera doing blurred shot to show the flute then Lady Noh was great) that she understand that Gon try to fulfill his destiny and this will be secret between both of them 🥺 The production team also have a good sense of connecting the mood with the music, because here we can here Maze as backsound and its match perfectly

Gon finally confront LSD, i have 1 fav line said by Gon here

Gon “How could you when you dont even have the guts nor the caliber?”

Damn this gave me chills. He is angry. And he arrested him.

Next we saw KSJ off duties to stay away from this mess and clear his heads. As i said before, i somehow found the relationship between this police and bar owner was special. They like enemy but they understand each other and the bar owner has somehow empathetic towards KSJ. He let KSJ used the place for a few days and served him nuts. KSJ still refusing the money though. The guitar sound makes me feel soft for them 🥺

JES did not even know that JY to Gon is as sincere as him to his siblings 🥺 also at the end of this scene JY actually worried what happen to JES, both doppelgänger has share some emotional connection 🥺

Gon is having a yearly review with PM. This whole scene was hilarious first of all we got to saw bored JES which is funny, then we saw PM crossing the line once again by asking when will Gon get married and she being honest of wanting to be a queen. Thank god Gon said he already proposed to someone 😎

One of underated scene in the series. Because in this conversation despite of being cute and soft (and the kiss too omg), we actually being told a very important information about time inside the in between 0 and 1

Gon “if i spend 1 day in there, two months flow by the outside”

JTE “then if you’re in there, you wont grow old”

Honorable mention for Gon words “even if i can have eternal life there, i will come to you” and JTE replied “dont think about coming to me, think about going together” 🥺

Gon continue his actual work to see all the security footage as he is try to locate LR. Instead he saw this cctv record written coming from 27/05/2022 . With JTE and yoyo boy in front of a book store, and as creepy as it gets, the yoyo boy inside the cctv are looking to Gon eyes suddenly, then we thunder came and create pain on Gon shoulder

Cracks also continue in LR side. LR knew about KSJ visiting Gon doppelgänger cinerarium. And inform that the police that visit the care center before is JTE. JTE now also looking for the 2G phone. Here i think LR assuming that the enemy side are now know what is LR doing and try to investigate it more. I love how finally LR realizing the cracks

LR “KSJ, the wrong move i made. JTE, the move i did not make”

Why KSJ is the wrong move he made? I assume because he took him to Korea while he is a child and did not even teach him or at least try to keep him close and made him a bad guy? Child has potential to develop a character which will be going againts him when he grow up and it is now kind of look like that and in liaise to that move he did not make, JTE, both ksj and jte are connected in a family like relationship. Which what makes KSJ now.

Gon was looking for the bookstore he found at the cctv record. Ho pil did not found it anywhere. Instead we got to see Prince Buyeong visited the bookstore ahead. Seriously i love this transition from Gon scene to this scene because its connected and im totally shock. And keep thinking, why prince buyeong could came to this non existed book store

Then we came to this heartbreaking conversation between 2 man speaking about fate and all going towards the new year. What a deep deep words, magnificent cinematography, incredible color, Maze as the backsound. PERFECTION.

LG “Uncle, do you believe in fate? People usually tell fate to move aside and challenge it. Should i fight againts it?”

PB “You can never know what happen in life. But if there us a place you want to reach even if your life may be at risk, this is fate. The footsteps you take by risking your whole life is whats fate. Is there a place you want to reach?”

LG “yes there is”

PB “then you just have to go there. You dont need to fight. I hope there is a beautiful lady there”

LG “if i find this solution, i will visit you again with a woman who argues that the earth is flat”

PB “yes, i will be waiting, pyeha”

Then the sunset came, i cried. Not gonna lie.

This scene is a whole new level up for this series, i love that its also very poetic. Well done.

New Year is coming. Time stops. LR is in Corea. Walking very chill on the street, little that he knows. LG already recognize his FACE. LG need to thank JTE because he suddenly remember what she said “Then if you’re in there, you wont grow old” 😱

I love how we got to see them going pass through each other first before they both facing each other. And the music!!! And the way Gon cries “TRAITOR LEE RIM” . Standing applause 👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼

How it made me feel:

Wow. What an episode. At this point im shock on how its getting darker and darker. I thought it will be some kind a usual romance story but it was more than that. KES really took it to another level. Also i remember before i watch eps 10, i rewatch eps 7-9 once just to keep track on what is happening and also try to see better whether i missed anything. It was so fun. Also i realize that the editing was getting better and better. Every scenes keeps getting me attached and also making me feel deeper emotion to it. Whatever message or feelings that they try to convey, conveyed well. Salute 🍷 Also the acting and chemistry from all the characters were great. I cant even say any words, i haven’t found anyone even with a small role acting bad. I need to also give applause to the casting director.

What makes me extremely curious probably whether KSJ will be bad or not. Last time i doubted Prince Buyeong, but until eps 9 i can safely said that he is on Gon side. I put my faith in him crossed my fingers. But how about KSJ? He is still running away. My heart pumped. Back then i think “Thank God eps 10 is just tomorrow” i havent really acted like this to a series for a long time, but 2020 gave me dark and tkem. Both are similar yet very different, both are amazing.

i havent posted anything of my own on here in a few days so im gonna talk abt my lumpygrab fankid. this is very general info abt him and i'll make an official ref for him later but yeah this is what i spend 4+ hours a day thinking about lol

---> his name is pumice.

- he has a little brother but the only consistent thing i really have going on with their relationship is their age difference. i don't really have an official headcanon for how long he and his parents' lifespans are, but he's like 300ish by the time the baby is born.

- he was born in the fall, and as such spent the first year or so of his sentient life struggling with his sleep cycle. fruit people don't hibernate so much as they get more lethargic as the winter months go on, so his early childhood mainly consisted on sleeping, eating, playing with his parents, and sleepily wandering around the house.

- he's very weirdly charming for absolutely no reason at all. he has a very soothing demeanor that lg always attributed to him being born in the fall, because that's when things start to settle down. a lot of folks, especially humans, find this very unnerving once they catch on to it and often accuse him of using magic or charms to trick people. hint : he doesn't, he's just like that.

- him and sweet p were best friends growing up and had a brief homoerotic camping trip up in the mountains when they were in their late teens.

- although he and sweet p stopped talking after that point, pumice's overall storyline closely resembles his in a lot of ways. they're both incarnations of terrible people/beings that thankfully ended up developing differently due to their environments.

- he isn't a lemon person like his dad. essentially when a fruit person and a person of another species have a child, that child will usually take after one parent's species and then take dominant characteristics from the other parent. so, in pumice's case, he's a fruit person with a round, bulbous appearance with a lot of "bounce" to it, much like a lumpy space person, making him a persimmon rather than a lemon. he was created when his father extracted seeds out of his seed pouch and created a spot for it in the garden, and when he gained consciousness he was already around 5~ish years old developmentally speaking. his little brother is a lumpy space person that was made artificially.

- hes goth and he always wears the same shitty eyeliner. he doesn't even wipe it off the next day, he just draws over the same ring of product every morning. sometimes he wears corpse paint or lipstick too but he gets nervous with a lot of attention on him so if he does that he only does it if he's feeling special.

- he met pb one time and it was a mess. she was literally like "how were you created" to his face and he was like. 11

- i mentioned this before in another post but he has 3 boyfriends in his polyamorous relationship. there's orchid (met when he was 18 and still living in the earldom), drew (met at a skatepark), and florence (met at a bar). he luvs them very much

- he and his parents are best friends. he's especially close with his dad due to a lot of the wacky events that happened during his teen years and they have a lot of fun 2gether

Well, uh... to be honest I don’t have that much written but I do have a bunch of fics that are in very early stages and I love to ramble about stuff I write, so...

This excerpt is from a fic I’ve given up on where LSP has to go home to attend to her queen duties, leaving behind her few precious friends and Lemongrab as well, and since her dear sweet boyfriend misses her greatly, they keep in touch through texting. Except then there’s a storm and LG has a panic attack and LSP literally drops everything to go back and see if he’s okay. Like I said, I’ve given up on it and probably won’t ever finish it, the only real reason I’m sharing it is because LSP kinda roasts Bubblegum :D

“Aw, well I’m gonna miss ya’ll too, guys,” LSP smiled at them endearingly.

“But you know who will be the saddest when you leave?” Marceline grinned and sang slowly: “Your citrus boyfriend~”

“Oh here we go,” Bubblegum mumbled under her breath.

“Oh yeah, how did he take the whole queen–from–another–dimension thing when you told him?” Finn asked. He was on good terms with Lemongrab for a pretty solid time now and he was kind of concerned about his relationship with someone like LSP. Not that he didn’t like her, but both her and the earl disliked not having things their way and that could turn out to be a topic of arguments. Then again, they seemed to be right for each other in many ways and Finn hasn’t actually ever seen them argue. As far as his knowledge went, the pair had had a date probably every day of the last week in an attempt to mentally prepare for a long-distance relationship.

“He like, totally understood,” the purple cloud of a princess said with relief apparent in her voice. “He even promised me advice on ruling and stuff!”

Bubblegum cringed a little but tried to keep her composure. She failed, all three pairs of eyes noticed and were now looking at her rather scolding-like. “What?” she asked. “The Earldom of Lemongrab isn’t exactly the best example of how to rule!”

“Well, like, I mean,” LSP murmured, “neither is you experimenting on him, but here we are, girl.”

BOOM get rekt Bubblegum >:)

Ok another thing I’m really excited about even though I don’t have much to show of it is “The Battle over the Planet Lemongrab,” which is kinda inspired by Wander Over Yonder in a way. Basically it’s an AU in which the series happens not only on Earth but numerous different planets, so like... Lumpy Space is actually a planet, and the Earldom of Lemongrab is the Planet of Lemongrab, and an entire planet is called Ooo, stuff like that. So it’s kinda a space adventure!

And in this AU, Bubblegum is basically the overlord of a part of space. Guess it’s like a Star Wars imperium, but usually they’re the good guys.

Okay, and Princess Bubblegum of course needs armed forces to keep all the planets under her control in check, and LSP, believe it or not, joined this army. She was asked to find a job so she decided she could as well get some adventure out of it, and now she works for Bubblegum as a space assassin, basically. Now bear with me because it’s about to get crazier.

Lemongrab was supposed to be PB’s heir, right, and when she deemed him a failed experiment, she sent him off to his own (pretty desolate) planet, later she made him his brother Lemonsoft, and stuff’s good for a while before it’s not so good anymore.

In the end though, both Lemongrabs survive, that’s the big difference. Lemongrab lives on as a terrifying dictator that rebelled against Bubblegum and declared independence of his planet, and Lemonsoft joins Bubblegum’s force in search of making himself tougher in what could be describe as a desire to feel stronger.

Note: he has a really cool mask over the bitten-off part of his face (kinda like Sally Face if any of you know that game), except it has a prosthetic eye and everything, making him partly a cyborg. He bonds over this with Finn later, while LSP doesn’t like the mask that much because it reminds her of her past crush on Finn.

Well, all of this happens before the actual story. Where we actually meet our main characters is when Bubblegum calls LSP and LG2 to her office and gives them the mission of assassinating the original Lemongrab. Lemonsoft is reportedly chosen for the mission because even though it’s horrible that he has to kill his brother, he’s the only one who knows his castle’s layout and can use the environment properly. LSP is chosen because, well, Bubblegum doesn’t trust that her son can really kill his twin and someone has to do it. Also she is immune to a lot of magic stuff and that helps.

Before they even get to the planet they encounter a bajillion problems, bounty hunters, laser fights, all sorts of sci-fi space craziness combined with the Adventure Time characters and environments, all of that fun.

But I only have the skeleton of that story. The only piece of actual writing I have is.... this:

“So.” LSP started a small fire in the fireplace and carefully set a can of beans above it. She has been informed earlier that the inn had no food left after their king’s latest rampage and it honestly annoyed her more than anything. But now her dinner was cooking and she shot her partner a look of curiosity. “All of this is a family drama to you?”

“Mmm,” he nodded. “The Earl of Lemongrab is my brother.”

“Woah, like, for real? That’s… that’s… sheesh.”

“Yeah. I actually have this,” he pointed at the metal part of his head, “because of him.”

“Damn.”

“Indeed.” He would be most comfortable with leaving the conversation there, but he wasn’t allowed to.

“How did it even come to that?” she inquired.

“How did what come to what?”

“You know.” She looked at him like it was the most obvious thing in the world. “These types of people always have tragic backstories. At least you definitely have one, and your brother is either a villain, or–”

“He’s not a villain!” her partner retorted immediately, but when he saw her jump, his anger quickly deflated. “He’s just...” wrapping his arms around himself, Lemonsoft sighed. “He must’ve been so lonely these past years without me.”

Silence spread through the room then, and LSP found herself unable to break it. What happened to the brothers?

Yeah, what happened indeed. We might never find out because I’m a procrastinator and a lazy moron. But oh, well.

Since this is getting kinda long and because I only have a few other ideas written out I’m gonna leave it at that. Two exerpts are fine right?? Right????

What I actually think I might be finishing soon is a small fic about yet another AU, though I’m very fond of this one. So look forward to that!

Proof that Darrell and the Earl of Lemongrab are the exact same character

-Both were created in a lab by their sole parent, who they are devoted to and love above all else, putting that parent on a very high pedestal and even straight-up worshipping them. Their primary desire in everything they do is to make said parent proud of them.

-However, both are also severely neglected/abused by said parent when they fail to live up to expectations (which is almost always the case), and when this treatment pushes them too far bad things happen.

-Both have a twin sibling, in a technical sense -- Lemongrab 2 for Lemongrab, and Shannon for Darrell (they were originally quadruplets, and are still the same age). And while both sets of twins are extremely close, they often fight like all siblings inevitably do. (RIP LG2...)

-Both can be panicky, nervous wrecks at times, and need their more level-headed twin to calm them down. Thankfully Shannon is usually nearby when Darrell needs her, but LG kinda has to handle himself now...

-Both actually have very, very large families, with thousands of siblings!

-Both have been cloned by their parent. (A lot of times, in Darrell's case...)

-Both had That One Episode (You're in Control, Graybles), where they became stressed to their absolute limits over a relatively trivial thing and mentally snapped, and the results were NOT pretty. While Darrell didn't eat any of his brothers (good because Ernesto, Ray, and Jethro are angels), both did end up attempting to murder someone very close to them, which ultimately didn't succeed as the victim somehow survived, and both temporarily changed their status quo by taking a LOT of power by force.

-Both explode a lot oops

-Both have very high-pitched, shrill voices and scream quite a bit. (Darrell will never, ever reach LG's level in this respect though)

-Both are kind of their parent's "heir to the throne." Lemongrab is explicitly next in line to rule the Candy Kingdom if something ever happens to PB, and is quite eager to do so. And while it's more symbolic with Darrell, he did throw out his dad's chair when he took over Boxmore as CEO to rule it from a literal throne.

-Though they can throw down in a fist fight, both use primarily ranged weapons -- LG prefers to blast people with his Sound Sword from a distance, and Darrell has an entire arsenal of cannons, missiles, etc.

-While neither one is a great fighter, both have other talents which seem to run in the family. Darrell turned out to be a surprisingly good businessman, appropriate considering his two older brothers, and Lemongrab is an excellent inventor and scientist just like his mom.

-Related to above, both have mechanical skills they don't often get to showcase -- LG is an inventor as mentioned above, and Darrell's actual job when he isn't fighting is assembling robots and operating machinery on the factory floor.

-They both have really silly design flaws/weaknesses. LG just explodes when a harp is played vigorously nearby, and Darrell has his reboot button, which causes him to explode and be loaded into a new body, located right in the center of his chest.

-However, in spite of these, they're also designed to be EXTREMELY difficult to kill for good. Darrell is actually a hivemind operating from a server somewhere in the factory and controlling his thousands of bodies remotely, and LG can survive being completely drained of juice or even being blown up, and he can simply be refilled or sewn back together, no worse for wear.

-Both have a lot of different fancy outfits that they get to show off for us! They also have their one iconic outfit they wear when Shit Gets Real -- LG's general uniform and Lord Cowboy Darrell's costume.

-Both of their parents are self-proclaimed royalty (Princess/Lord), which they've technically inherited (LORD Cowboy Darrell, anyone?)

-Their parents happen to be in a romantic same-sex relationship with someone associated with fanged creatures (bats for Marceline, snakes for Venomous), and who may or may not have surprising familial connections with an archenemy. (Marcy -> Ice King, PV -> KO, maybe?)

-For better or worse, both tend to mimic their parent, particularly their nastier behaviors. LG recreated PB's entire castle for a dinner party, and we eventually learned that his dungeoning and interrogation habits were something he inherited from her as well. Meanwhile, aside from stealing one of his dad's lab coats to play house and running the company as CEO, Darrell also turned out to be unable to resist abusing his newfound power, pitting his siblings against each other to be his favorite and letting his ego drive him just as his father did.

-Both have actually taken legal measures to become more independent of their parent's influence, with Darrell turning his dad's investor's against him to keep him from just returning to the company, and LG and PB signing a treaty forbidding her from entering his earldom (except in cases of explosion).

-Both have very, very sharp teeth -- you do NOT want to get bitten by either one! (Especially in LG's case...)

-They both have rather...unusual diets, at least from our perspective. LG regularly eats people, dishes, and in one memorable instance a pie right out of a rat's mouth. Darrell CAN eat normal food, but seems to prefer batteries, bolts, and oil.

-Both wear an unusual leather accessory to bed -- LG's catcher's mitt, Darrell's cowboy boots.

-Neither one is anywhere near the age they look. Candy people age weird so LG can be anywhere from 8 to 800 despite looking like a young adult, while Darrell is rather explicitly 6-11 but has the body and brain of a teenager. (And both are at the maturity level of toddlers as well, further complicating things...)

-Speaking of brains, both have brains that are very, very easily accessible -- Darrell's is RIGHT THERE, and LG's head apparently just pops right open whenever PB needs to mess around with it.

-Both have a ton of anger and jealousy issues to work through, and are quite insecure about themselves. Don't EVER tell them that their son/baby brother is perfect or better than them, someone will die.

-For that matter, both were temporarily replaced by their beloved parent in favor of a younger sibling (Goliad, Boxman Jr), with neither instance going well at all due to the parent's own oversights.

-At least one of their younger siblings is a quadruped of indeterminate species (Goliad again, Stormo, Mikayla).

-At one point, Lemongrab 2 had one eye. At one point, one of the background Darrells had two eyes.

-Neither is shy in front of a camera. Darrell has commercials, short films, and at least one news interview under his belt, and LG made his own propaganda films for his earldom.

-Emotion trumps logic, every time. In fact, logic is the LAST thing that ever crosses either of their minds, considering their schemes usually run along the lines of "My people are hungry, so I'm going to use all my food to create an army to take more food to build a bigger army to take even more food..." and "I'm going to make my daddy proud of me by doing the evilest thing I can imagine, which is betraying him and shooting him into the sun!"

-Both were at one point commonly shipped with someone who had the same VA (LG2, Rad).

-Both are on shows whose protagonist is, for all intents and purposes, a puppy. ;v;

In conclusion, there's a lot these boys have in common, almost too much, and it really, really weirds me out sometimes.

i have a bunch of lemongrab like, headcanons and weird more or less indulgent hopes for the future of his character and how he shows up in the last couple dozen episodes...

i kinda want fern to be friends with lemongrab? they interact well while candified (but i know that doesn't mean that they'd interact well normally) and i'd like to see them hang out or go on an adventure together or something

mostly i want fern to find a place where he can be introspective and lemongrab has recently started understanding himself via introspection as well, so he could maybe be fern's mentor? fern is more gloomy and has been through some bad stuff as both grass sword and sword finn so i think having someone who was also two people with unpleasant violent urges as a mentor to give him kinda cryptic and weird advice would be cool

( also i think it'd be cool for fern to be the champion of the lemongrab earldom cause finn is already the champion of the candy kingdom and the lemongrab earldom is kinda quiet and isolated and would be calmer for fern)

i also really want lemongrab's arc to truly end with him declaring the earldom of lemongrab independent of the candy kingdom! it'd be like an adult declaring themselves independent of a parent that has been less than great to them, especially since the earldom of lemongrab is standing on its own really well and im sure he'd like to be independent as well

princess bubblegum could really show how much she's grown by letting him go (especially since she doesn't?? really care that much about the earldom??) instead of clinging to someone she really hasn't shown much of a care for outside of being worried about him causing trouble in her kingdom or wanting him around to experiment on him

lg and pb could make treaties and stuff and lemongrab can finally get control over his relationship with his mother and her kingdom and actually be able to control it, and princess bubblegum could offer her assistance whenever he actually needs it instead of forcing her 'help' onto him or ignoring him

i really doubt the second one will happen, and the first one too, cause i don’t know if lemongrab is gonna get anything else , but i can hope!
