♚— Not going to lie, though, doing this meme opened a third eye and I realized what Kanon’s main issue is. You’ll catch onto it as you read, but.. wow. Kanon is a lot more fucked up emotionally (in a very pitiful way) than I thought....
What makes you the most emotional about your muse?
Kanon is a weird one because most of his emotional stuff is buried. Most of what you see in Poseidon arc and Hades arc are very superficial things, and you really don’t get an insider’s view of Kanon unless you read Origin. Origin sheds soooo much light on Kanon and his emotional side.
What makes me the most emotional about Kanon is that he obviously still loves and cares for his brother. You can blame it on the twin thing, but he did cry in Origin when he thought about his brother. I think that--even without the specific words--tells a lot about Kanon’s view on his relationship with his brother, even if it’s one-sided (Since I think Saga didn’t really cherish Kanon, now thinking about it.)
What made you decide to write this muse?
I know I gawk and talk about how much I love the LC twins… but would you believe me if I said that I fell in love with Kanon first out of ALL of the Gemini boys? Like, it’s funny because like. With Aspros and Defteros, I finished LC before I watched Classic, so like… I should have fell in love with Aspros and Defteros first, but no, I fell in love with their bond. When I watched the classic and (by Poseidon arc I was really getting into Saint Seiya) when Kanon appeared, my heart literally jumped out of my chest. I thought he was Saga at first, but then like later, I started warming up to him. I loved him being a little shit in the Poseidon arc, but his redemption in Hades arc really got me.
So, long story short, I fell in love with Kanon. I would have picked him up years ago, but I didn’t have the solid ground to portray him. However, after reading Origin (which like released this year or last year or whatever), I feel like I have a better understanding on him--and I also created a mini story for him which spans from his childhood years with Saga to a ‘hidden’ story of the Marinas before the fight with Athena.
If you could change one event in your muse’s life (in their main or canon verse), what would you change?
Him being thrown in the water prison. If you’re going with canon events. I feel like there were other ways to handle the situation, and in the comic it didn’t even look like Kanon was actually being serious about killing Athena and Shion. At most, Kanon is a shit-talker. He likes to talk shit, especially since he was an edgy teenager. Fuck, I went through that stage when I was like 17. Everyone gets an edgy teenager age, and I feel like Saga took him too seriously.
Headcanon wise? Shion slapping him out of blind rage (not gonna expand on that here, but feel free to ask if you wanna know~!)
If you could give your muse one gift, what would you give them?
Honestly, I don’t know. If it was before his trench foot was cured, then I’d give him something that’d help comfort his feet. Perhaps like softer socks or something to ease the chronic pain. If it was after his pain was taken from him, perhaps I’d give him a plane ticket to go where he wants to go for sentimentality.
If you had to take one positive thing away from your muse, what would you take away?
Well, here’s the thing. No one knows what ‘positive’ thing Kanon has in canon Saint Seiya. Or like, it’s not outstandingly positive. In headcanons though, he has a very strong sense of justice. This is based on the fact that the Gemini Cloth’s helm is legit called “The Helm of Justice”. With that, you’d think that the Gemini Cloth picks those who have a strong sense of justice (Libra cloth says what?), BUT ‘justice’ is subjectively ambiguous. So, headcanon wise, if I were to, I would take away Kanon’s strong sense of justice, even if most of it had been used against Athena in his unbalanced rage.
If you could “borrow” one aspect of your muse and apply it to yourself or your own life, what would you borrow?
God I wish I could borrow Kanon’s intricate planning. Especially when it comes to manipulating people. Not that he’s manipulating them as Aspros would, but he’s manipulating them by not telling the truth/showing his cards. It’s pretty smart for someone who had lost their chance of socializing with others.
What do you love about your muse?
Bruh, it’s hard to pin this down…. What do I love about Kanon? I can’t say “everything” because there are some parts that I really disagree with… but… I think his cockiness got to me. And then he became really cool in Hades arc.
What do you hate about your muse?
Let me be clear, I don’t really hate anything about Kanon. But I don’t understand his rivalry with Saga. Especially after the release of Origin. Like, something doesn’t make sense. Did he convince himself that he needed to antagonize and be a little brat in order to make his brother appear better? Something about Kanon’s mentality about his brother doesn’t make sense, and it puzzles me. But perhaps it’s because I do not have that sort of relationship with my own sister; I can’t understand sibling relationships where they constantly bicker and fight.
What about your muse amuses you?
BRO DOESN'T LIKE TO BE CALLED A LOSER!!!!!!!!!
What about your muse makes you sad?
At the end of Origin, Kanon cried. He cried thinking about Saga. I think Kanon had always looked up to his brother. Saga was the perfect person and such a kind hearted soul, and I think Kanon always admired Saga. He just acted edgy because that was the only thing he knew how to do. Act up and be bratty, especially since it feels like it was implied that Shion didn’t even concern himself with Kanon. So, Kanon wasn’t even being taken seriously by the Pope, so why bother trying? I think he was really blindsided when Saga actually threw him into the water prison--like shocked to the point where he could have had an intense heartache over it. And then when he learned that Saga died, he felt the pain in his heart.
Anyway, what I’m saying is that, despite his shit talking and rough words, what’s sad is that Kanon was overlooked by both Shion (practically their adopted father) and Saga (the only person Kanon treasured secretly) because they didn’t have faith and they looked down on him. Heck, they didn’t even give him a chance to prove his strength as a Gold Saint. In his opinion, he was treated like garbage--or really, a delinquent--by two people who should have cherished/respected/tried to understand him. But they didn’t, and that’s what makes me sad. And it really doesn’t help that, in Awakening, he admits that he doesn’t have friends or allies, so he didn’t (and still doesn’t) have anyone to give him any sort of positivity about himself.
How would you describe your muse to someone about to meet them, in person, for the first time?
So, there’s this dude named Kanon…. He looks EXACTLY like his twin brother, but you can tell him from the other one by how much he acts up like a little brat. He also gets really salty if you call him a loser or make any implication that he’s inferior to his brother.
Would you like your muse as a person if you met them in real life?
Honestly, probably not! I’d still be intrigued by him and admire him from afar, but Kanon irl would probably be too much for me.
In what ways are you better than your muse? In what ways are they better than you?
I don’t think I’m better than Kanon in anything aside from the fact that I can at least make friends. //////buuuuuuuuurned//////  Meanwhile, Kanon is pretty good at everything, I would think.
Why do you think you connect to your muse?
It’s an odd thing to think about. I don’t think I connect to him as much as I do the LC twins, but I can blend some aspects of my sister and myself into Kanon that helps me with understanding him a lot better, especially after reading Origin. It’s really not hard to portray Kanon since I can easily slip into his character, but I don’t think I’d so emotionally connect to him as strongly as I do Aspros and Defteros.
What aspect of your muse’s personality is most important to you? What aspect of your muse’s personality do you think is most important to them? Is it the same? Why or why not?
For me, as weird as this is since I doubt it’s a personality thing, but Kanon’s inner part(?) is pretty important. He has a soft emotional underbelly, metaphorically speaking, that he likes to keep hidden away from others. That’s important to his character portrayal because he’s always going to try and protect that emotional weakness and he’ll even act out and be a little brat if that means he can hide that weakness from others. It also makes him a bit sad…
For him though, I think he thinks that his solitude is best for him. After all, you can’t get hurt (or emotionally betrayed) if you’re by yourself, and Kanon has always been by himself after he was thrown in the water prison.
If you had to judge your muse and sentence them to a “fair” fate, what would your judgement be? Would you punish them? Reward them? How?
Honestly, I don’t know! I want to ‘reward’ him by giving him a ‘new life’ but without the cruelness of being looked down upon or emotionally neglected by Shion and Saga… But at the same time, perhaps the ‘fairest’ thing to do is just leave him alone. If anyone tries to shower him with affection after this long of him being neglected, he’s just going to let it roll off his back. I would like for him and Saga to try and repair their relationship though...

♚— Can I just say that I ADORE the idea of Kanon and Saga having feminine names???
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Like, can you imagine??? I can get the Saga part, but *KANON*. God, I love male characters with feminine names.
but no. Actually, I’m looking around because of curiosity, I’m trying to figure out how to explain in-universe why Shion would name the twins what he named them. I get that these won’t ever be explained by Kurumada himself, since he was probably throwing out names as they came to him (so they probably don’t have any reason for their names), but I’m a person that likes looking at the fine details.
Thought process down below if you wanna see me spit-balling random shit.
Tumblr media
♚— For Kanon, I get an ancient instrument called the Monochord.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Looking around for videos on monochords (x), it looks like a the monochord is an instrument in ancient Greece that seemed to... promote? Provide an atmosphere for inner peace? Similar to how some people might look to Buddhist mantra chants for inner peace.
Also, I’ve found that ‘kanon’ had an association with ‘straightness’ or ‘reeds’.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
I might be a dumbass making a longass stretch, but looking into the important of ‘reeds’, they seem to help clean water.
Tumblr media
So, my reasoning for Shion naming Kanon “Kanon” would probably have something to do with achieving inner peace or assisting in rooting out evil (via being a harbinger of the law or just via his innate nature). Either intentionally or unintentionally. Perhaps during infanthood, after Lemur had entered Saga’ body, Shion would have had an acknowledgment about how Kanon helped Saga resist the faintest bit of evil. This is, of course, going off of my headcanons that Kanon has helped Saga resist Lemur up until Saga had tossed him into the water prison.
This is not including the fact that in-universe, Kurumada also came up with a place called “KANON ISLAND” that “is a place of refuge for injured saints to heal their wounds”.
I have the faintest of ideas that even while being infants, Kanon was always Saga’s ‘place of peace’ so to say, since I’d imagine that even baby Saga would have had some internal struggle and very fussy moments because of the parasite that no one was aware of... Shion might have picked up on how being next to Kanon soothed Saga tremendously, so he gave Kanon a name that reflected his--for lack of better words--’healing properties’ (and in the distance, you can hear Kanon throwing up).
Tumblr media
♚— Now, for Saga... well, you see, that’s the thing. A saga is a long, involved story, account, or series of incidents... but it’s origin isn’t Greek at all...
Tumblr media
Although, the word does have a Latin root ‘sagax’, as mentioned in the screenshot above. This could have also contributed to the later fact that the Geminis are very ‘brainwave’/mind-based heavy with most of their skillsets.
Tumblr media
Although the rare given name of “Saga” is in relation to the word of a narrative epic, saga.
Tumblr media
So, I can’t really think of anything deep Shion would have went with as a reason to name Saga ‘Saga’... It’s the trickiest name out of all the Geminis in my opinion since even in Japanese, the few words that can be pronounced ‘saga’ doesn’t fit Saga himself.
A very presumptuous headcanon i can think of is that... Shion just got too excited at being a first-time daddy and had very high expectations of Saga, who is the first child to arrive in Sanctuary. Perhaps he named the baby ‘Saga’ in hopes that Saga would have tons of epics written about him or how he’d be the best saint that he’d have tons of stories told about him. Either that, or he wanted Saga to reflect the long list of deeds, trials, errors, and other life elements that he would undoubtedly face as the oldest of that generation of Gold Saints. Fuck, I wouldn’t be surprised if Shion at first planned for Saga to be Pope, but his spirits were dampened as he began to sense the growing presence of Lemur as the years went on.
Either way, Saga’s name isn’t of Greek origin (despite him being Greek, but that’s okay! It’s not the first time we had a name refract from a Saint’s nationality. Shura, Aphro, DM/Mephisto being one of the best other examples I can think of right now), and it just makes me curious as to why Shion would name Saga after a word that means ‘story, (folk)tale, chronicles, myth, history’...
But, of course, unless someone has other ideas on why the twins are named as they are, I’ll have to keep incubating on why Saga is named ‘saga’...

What kind of modern clothes would Kanon wear?
Tumblr media
♚— I’ve actually been thinking about this a bit. Especially since my Gemini Twins short-story comic (I say short story since I don’t plan it to be over 20 chapters) does have some Kanon downtime.
I drew a visual of what one of his outfits would look like. Not that he dresses himself since, if it was up to him, he’d just continue wearing his training outfit. The nymph (she’s an OC, but she dies anyway) acts like his assistant and dresses him up when they go to the surface.  Kanon is like Defteros in the way where majority of the time he doesn’t really care. But unlike Defteros, Kanon doesn’t care because he doesn’t have time to care.
Other than that? Maybe some general 1970s-80s stuff for men. Maybe a bit more on the blander side since, if he were to go to the surface more often, he wants to be ‘lost in the crowd’. It wouldn’t do anyone any good if he were discovered.
If you’re talking about like... modern-modern day instead of like our general ‘modern day’--like if he lived (to his 60s /strangled by Kanon/) in the 2021 era.... Hm.... probably the same, but I’d imagine that Kanon would have an array of jackets and coats (mostly jackets though), skinny and boot-cut jeans, sneakers and boots... Maybe he’d have a bit of a slight punk era or something.... Cargo pants, that’s for sure, since I’d imagine that even in modern-modern day era, Kanon still clings to his Paranoia and bitterness, so he’d want a lot of room to store butterfly knives on his person. Just in case he gets jumped or something.
Some part of me believes that he does have a ‘business’ side to him. So maybe he’ll also wear button-up white shirts, vests... or whatever the hell mafia attire he wears in Saint Seiya Awakening.
