Now, you can learn the best and budget-friendly methods to call Vietnam from the US. Let's get started!
Understanding the Dialing Process
Calling Vietnam from the US needs proper dialing steps for a successful call. Understanding and using the right codes is key.
Start by dialing "011" for the international code from the US. Then, add Vietnam's country code, "84". This connects your call abroad.
Next, include the area or city code for your call's specific location in Vietnam. Make sure you have the accurate code for where you're calling.
Finally, enter the local number of whom you want to call in Vietnam. Always double-check the numbers you dial to prevent call issues.
Knowing how to dial is vital for staying in touch with those in Vietnam. Follow these steps with the right codes for an easy connection.
Dialing Codes for Calling Vietnam from US
Knowing the right dialing codes is key for international calls, including to Vietnam from the US. You need to use these codes to make sure your call goes through. This is important whether you're using a phone line at home or your mobile phone. Without the right codes, you might not reach your contact in Vietnam.
The International Dialing Code
First, you must type the international dialing code. It's also known as the exit or access code. This code lets your phone carrier know you're calling someone abroad. For calls from the US to Vietnam, start with 011. Put this code in front of the next numbers you dial.
The Country Code
After the international code, you need Vietnam's country code, 84. A country code like this is like Vietnam's phone number in the world. With the international and country codes done, you're almost there in reaching your friend or family member.
Local Area Codes
Next, add the local area code for the part of Vietnam you're calling. Different areas have their own codes. You can find the right one by looking online or using a calling service that shows you. With the local area code added, your call is on its way to the correct place in Vietnam.
Example: Dialing a Number in Ho Chi Minh City
Let's try reaching someone in Ho Chi Minh City, the biggest city in Vietnam. Dial "011" first for international, then "84" for Vietnam. Ho Chi Minh City's local area code is "28". After that, add your friend's number to finish the call.
Know the dialing codes well to easily talk to people in Vietnam from the US. Always check the codes first to make sure your call goes smoothly.

Mildred Beltré - Ho Chi Minh City - Days 25-26
Monday
Day off
I got in on the overnight from Dalat at 4 in the morning. i was tired so I stayed pretty close to the apartment. I did go meet Bev Colston for coffee. She just arrived yesterday. It’s so funny to see her so far from Vermont.
Tuesday
It’s cloudy today and super humid. Its been hot up to now but not humid.
Went to Fito Museum of Traditional medicine. It is a beautiful place. If I understood correctly. It is a modern building made in 1995 but the inside was built using materials from an old house in the North. There was so much beautiful carved woodwork. I’ always so excited by wood carving. I should try it.
I’m at a cafe waiting to go meet Sandrine Llouquet and they are playing Ozuna. Hadn’t heard any reggaeton here until now. I had a nice time talking with Sandrine, the director there and seeing the collection at Salon Saigon. She is an artist as well and has a show up in another gallery. After that I decided to go to Rico Taco and check out Mexican food. There they were playing shakira Chantaje and Cardi B, I like it like that.
I had a coding workshop at the American consulate. I am really living the Facebook events life. The workshop was lead by a Vietnamese woman who had studied fashion are SCAD and then decided to go into coding, which is not the same as programming, but now I forget the difference... It was ok. Learned some basic stuff about how to tailor an existing site. She has an organization or maybe just a site called Cat can Code which promotes women coding. And she talked about how the are 21 million coders in the world vs however many billion of us there are in the world and of those 21 million very few are women.

WED Tease Connect with Da Nang Tourism Presentation in Mumbai, India
“We had a reason to connect Indian Wedding Planners with Da Nang Tourism. We by far know Indian Weddings are demanding in terms of infrastructure, facilities, airfares, food, entertainment which are the key aspects in attracting destination weddings. This virgin destination has an exploration to follow and so we made the world of potential wedding planners know about Da Nang.” – Meenal Gupta, Editor, WED Tease
The Da Nang Tourism introduction program took place on July 25, 2019 at St.Regis Hotel in Mumbai, India. The program was jointly organized by the Danang City Department of Tourism and Bangkok Airways with a plan to diversify international tourist markets approved by the city in the period of 2019-2020.
For the first time to promote in India, the Tourism Department has focused on connecting Indian market travel partners, especially in the financial capital of India -Mumbai to develop this market in the near future.
Attending the event were Mr. Tran Xuan Thuy, Consul General of Vietnam in Mumbai, India; Mr. Sudhir Patil, Founder of Veena World, one of the leading travelers in India and President of the Maharashtra Travel Association and members of the Association; approx. 72 guests who are Indian tour operators, wedding organizers and units specializing in MICE.
Sharing with guests at the program on stable development and the attraction of Vietnam tourism has attracted more than 15.5 million visitors in the past year, Mr. Tran Xuan Thuy especially emphasized the tourism potentials of Da nang, one of the most livable cities in Vietnam.
Indian travel representative to welcome the tourism business delegation from Da Nang, Mr. Sudhir Patil (Veena World) expressed his thanks to Da Nang and Mumbai’s market connection efforts as well as the expectation of good cooperation in the future between business partners.
Mr. Thanut Nachon Chanachon, Representative of Bangkok Airways in India, co-event organizer believed the positive changes of the Indian outbound market to Da Nang in the near future: “The destination of Da Nang is really a new and attractive name for Indian market. Many of our partners are committed to promoting this new market, so I think the effect of the event will be visible in the near future ”.
Mr. Varun Madaan, the founder of Vivaah Makers opened the wedding market in India for Da Nang after his survey visit in November 2018. Upon his support, Da Nang already sees confirmed Big Fat India Weddings in November 2019 and March 2020.
There exists a small concern about the lack of direct flights but the businesses still actively reach the Indian market and also appreciate the effectiveness of partner connections in the program.
In the program, one of the well known attractions in Da Nang, Sunworld got introduced to Indian customers. Ms. Phung Pham Thanh Thuy, Business Manager of Sunworld said: “The number of Indian tourists coming to Vietnam is very limited compared to the potential and the power that this market has. Tourism promotion in India is considered necessary to introduce Da Nang to travel partners and media to facilitate the construction of suitable tour packages. Travel units, transport companies, service providers such as hotels, entertainment.. need to join hands to build facilities to meet the needs of Indian guests ”.
Mr. Nguyen Son Thuy, Indochina Unique Tourists Director said: “India is a potential source of customers to supplement the structure of the“ pie ”market share in the context of China and South Korea markets are accounting for a high proportion in Danang. Da Nang has always pioneered in finding new markets and promoting itself in India once again affirms this role.”
According to Ms. Le Nguyen Bao Ly, Deputy General Director of Vietnam Travel Mart, the unit has been exploiting the Indian market for many years but still faces difficulties in high ticket prices because there is no direct flight, “Hopefully, the program will attract guest partners who are really interested in Da Nang destination and push the tour actively. Currently popular tours focus only on Hanoi and Ho Chi Minh City in combination with Cambodia, Indian visitors to Da Nang are still in minority.
Mr. Nguyen Ngoc Anh, Director of Omega Tours (DMC) expects to exploit Indian visitors in these upcoming 3-6 months. However, he noted that this is still a challenging market.
The program was well planned and very well organized by Da Nang City Department of Tourism and Bangkok Airways. The organizers showed great interest to understand the demands of wedding planners and absorbed the requirements.

California braces for another heat wave (Yahoo News) The National Weather Service issued an excessive heat warning Tuesday for much of California that will last from Wednesday through next Monday, the third potentially record-breaking heat wave over the last two months in a state racked by a drought made worse by climate change. Temperatures are forecast to reach 116 degrees in the valleys of San Diego over the weekend, and even higher in desert portions of the state. In the Central Valley, where much of the nation’s food is grown, temperatures are forecast to reach 111 degrees on Sunday, and Yosemite National Park could see temperatures of over 108 degrees for several days in a row, the National Weather Service warned.
Haitian President assassinated (BBC/AP) Haitian President Jovonel Moïse, 53, was killed in his private residence at 1 a.m. local time by armed assailants, amid political instability in the impoverished Caribbean nation. First Lady Martine Moïse was injured in the gunfire. Moïse had been ruling by decree for more than two years after the country failed to hold elections and parliament was dissolved. Prime Minister Claude Joseph assumed leadership of Haiti with help of police and the military and decreed a two-week state of siege following Moïse’s killing, which stunned a nation grappling with some of the Western Hemisphere’s highest poverty, violence and political instability. Inflation and gang violence are spiraling upward as food and fuel becomes scarcer, while 60% of Haitian workers earn less than $2 a day. The increasingly dire situation comes as Haiti is still trying to recover from the devastating 2010 earthquake and Hurricane Matthew in 2016 following a history of dictatorship and political upheaval.
Dutch journalist shot who exposed the mob (Washington Post) It was evening in Amsterdam when Peter R. de Vries stepped out of the television studio and into the downtown streets. Decades investigating cold-case killings had earned the silver-haired 64-year-old accolades and a reputation as one of the most famous journalists in the Netherlands. His career in crime reporting had also earned him death threats, but friends said he laughed off the danger. Shortly after leaving the TV studio on Tuesday, de Vries was shot. “He was seriously wounded and is fighting for his life,” Amsterdam mayor Femke Halsema told reporters. “He is a national hero to us all. A rare, courageous journalist who tirelessly sought justice.” The Netherlands has one of the lowest violent crime rates in Europe. But its long shoreline, numerous ports and excellent infrastructure has made it a major hub for drug trafficking, and de Vries had been working against them.
Russia’s pandemic response (Foreign Policy) Russia is firmly in the grip of the COVID-19 pandemic’s third wave. Every day, there are about 22,000 reported new infections—twice as many as during the peak of the first wave in May 2020—and more than 600 deaths. The new delta variant of the virus, which Moscow Mayor Sergey Sobyanin said is responsible for 90 percent of new infections in the Russian capital, has caught Russia almost completely unawares. Now, the campaign for parliamentary elections in September could make fighting the pandemic even harder, since the ruling United Russia party may be even more reluctant to impose unpopular measures like lockdowns.
Taliban Try to Polish Their Image as They Push for Victory (NYT) In June, when the Taliban took the district of Imam Sahib in Afghanistan’s north, the insurgent commander who now ruled the area had a message for his new constituents, including some government employees: Keep working, open your shops and keep the city clean. The water was turned back on, the power grid was repaired, garbage trucks collected trash and a government vehicle’s flat tire was mended—all under the Taliban’s direction. Imam Sahib is one of dozens of districts caught up in a Taliban military offensive that has swiftly captured more than a quarter of Afghanistan’s districts, many in the north, since the U.S. withdrawal began in May. It is all part of the Taliban’s broader strategy of trying to rebrand themselves as capable governors while they press a ruthless, land-grabbing offensive across the country. But the signs that the Taliban have not reformed are increasingly clear: An assassination campaign against government workers, civil society leaders and security forces continues on pace. And in areas the insurgents have seized, women are being forced out of public-facing roles, and girls out of schools.
Iran nuclear worries (Foreign Policy) Iran has begun the process of making enriched uranium metal, the International Atomic Energy Agency reported on Tuesday, a move which the United States called “an unfortunate step backwards” while France, Germany, and the United Kingdom said the process fulfilled “no credible civilian need.” Development of uranium metal was banned under the 2015 Iran nuclear deal due to its use in the core of a nuclear weapon. Mikhail Ulyanov, Russia’s representative at indirect U.S.-Iran negotiations in Vienna noted Iran’s breach of the deal on Twitter while offering a reminder that Biden’s failure to lift Trump-era sanctions on Iran also constitutes a breach. Ulyanov said another round of Vienna talks and a full restoration of the deal was the “only way out of this vicious circle.”
Vietnam’s biggest city sees panic-buying over virus lockdown fears (Reuters) Anticipation of stricter movement curbs triggered panic-buying in Vietnam’s economic hub Ho Chi Minh City on Wednesday, the epicentre of its coronavirus outbreak, while media reported unrest at a city jail where dozens of inmates were infected. The health ministry said outbound travellers from the city of 9 million people would be subjected to a week of quarantine and testing at their destinations, a day after dozens of flights were suspended to control the spread. Shelves at the supermarkets were being emptied since late Tuesday, witnesses said, in preparation for tighter measures, as the country reported more than 1,000 daily coronavirus cases for the first time.
Australia’s largest city Sydney locks down for third week (AP) Sydney’s two-week lockdown has been extended for another week due to the vulnerability of an Australia population largely unvaccinated against COVID-19, officials said on Wednesday. The decision to extend the lockdown through July 16 was made on health advice, state Premier Gladys Berejiklian said. The extension of the lockdown, which covers Australia’s largest city and some nearby communities, means most children will not return to school next week following their midyear break.
Ever Given: Ship that blocked Suez Canal sets sail after deal signed (BBC) A huge container ship that blocked the Suez Canal in March—disrupting global trade—is finally leaving the waterway after Egypt signed a compensation deal with its owners and insurers. Witnesses say the Ever Given weighed anchor shortly after 11:30 local time (09:30 GMT) and headed north towards the Mediterranean escorted by tugs. The ship has been impounded for three months near the canal city of Ismailia. Terms of the deal were not disclosed but Egypt had demanded $550m (£397m). The vessel, with an Indian crew, is still loaded with about 18,300 containers. It is due to undergo safety checks at Port Said before sailing to Rotterdam in the Netherlands and then to the UK port of Felixstowe where it will offload its containers, the Wall Street Journal reported.
Khalid bin Salman Gets Quiet Washington Welcome (Foreign Policy) Prince Khalid bin Salman, the son of Saudi King Salman and brother of Crown Prince Mohammed, meets with State Department officials today on a trip to Washington that the White House would rather not talk about. Prince Khalid’s visit was not publicly announced by either U.S. or Saudi officials, and is the highest profile visit by a Saudi official since the Biden administration declassified an intelligence assessment surrounding the murder of Washington Post columnist Jamal Khashoggi by a Saudi hit squad in Istanbul in 2018. On Tuesday he met with U.S. Secretary of Defense Lloyd Austin, Gen. Mark Milley, the chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff, as well as National Security Adviser Jake Sullivan. As Saudi Arabia’s deputy defense minister, there is nothing unusual about a representative of a U.S. regional partner meeting with U.S. officials. However, the lack of fanfare underlines the Biden administration’s wariness in dealing with a government that then-candidate Joe Biden promised to treat as a “pariah” for human rights abuses, chief among them the killing of Khashoggi, a U.S. resident and critic of the Saudi government. Biden initially held true to his promise that “America will never again check its principles at the door just to buy oil or sell weapons,” when he announced a pause in proposed weapons sales to the kingdom; the decision will likely be watered down to a suspension in the sale of air-to-ground offensive weaponry.
South Africa’s ex-leader turns himself in for prison term (AP) Former South African president Jacob Zuma turned himself over to police early Thursday to begin serving a 15-month prison term. Just minutes before the midnight deadline for police to arrest him, Zuma left his Nkandla home in a convoy of vehicles. Zuma handed himself over to authorities to obey the country’s highest court, the Constitutional Court, that he should serve a prison term for contempt. Zuma, 79, was ordered to prison for contempt because he defied a court order for him to testify before a judicial commission investigating widespread allegations of corruption during his time as the country’s president, from 2009 to 2018.

Day 1
Sorry, I literally was not given the memo I was supposed to start this weeks before my trip! Anyway I am spending Day 1 in the air. 24 hours of travel!
Because of a long lapse in communication, it felt like this wasn’t really gonna happen for so long, but here I am, somewhere between Alaska and Russia on a Korea Air flight, and honestly thank god, cause the bibimbap and the little tube of gochujang they give u at least makes me feel like i’m in a world and culture I know, for now.
After finding out where I’m going with 12 days notice, and the last five days in limbo with this visa, I'm so exhausted and have not had enough to time process that I am in fact doing an awesome once in a life time type of thing. Truly, I’m so scared to do it alone.
It’s 10am in nyc and I’m missing a strategic planning meeting with guardians of flushing bay-- it sucks, but it’s just the first of many organizing meetings that will go on without me in the next four weeks. So much will be different when i’m back in Queens.
four weeks no bicycle (?) no cats (?) no weed (?) no friends (?) no lovers (?) no family (?) no flushing creek (?), its rly like going to rehab !!!
Everyone says i’ll do fine, like there’s some type of performance review. People say don’t die, as if that’s the worst that could happen. I’m really excited to work though my fear of traveling alone, and being alone in an unfamiliar place. I don’t know if there’s any other way this would have happened for me. I certainly wouldn’t really sign up for this on my own accord. Exposure therapy.
I can’t wait to sleep in a bed.

The pulsating Ho Chi Minh City that is greatly missed, like badly
I went to Ho Chi Minh City last year, November 2017, a great year to explore the beauty of it. I went with my fellow other two travelers and we had such a great time there.
I love to explore like a local, I acculturate. As it always does, traveling to a place like HCMC makes me contemplate a lot. Things were just revolting like, I don’t know, it could be me who felt a little bit more sensitive, but traveling is something I wish I had done much much earlier. I learn to empathize, to accept, and to value my life though it wasn't related at all with the things I did. Back again to my journal, HCMC has a lot to offer. For me, who is really into cultural and historical sightseeing, this city has my vibe. I love every corner of the city, the life in the night, and the food I tasted.
I went there almost in the end of the year and the festivities of holiday were just feeling close. HCMC is not as busy as the city I live in, Jakarta and it’s not as hectic as we are in here but I see similarities between HCMC and Jakarta in terms of the people and the culture.
1. Motorcycle in front of the house
The photo above is the situation in front of the dorm. Motorcycles are plenty in numbers here. The picture above is quite familiar with the situation in the narrow streets in Jakarta.
2. Joining an impromptu music festival with the local
I stopped by the plaza in front of Bitexco and found this mesmerizing music festival. Throughout the event, I got lost in translation. I did not recognize a single word as the host spoke Vietnamese, of course. However, I love how the festival happened. It’s full of energy and I definitely love the music. At the end of festival, they waved Vietnam flags and it’s a wrap! From what i could conclude, this was something related to their Independence day festivities in September. I met locals though did not interact, but I smiled to some of them. It’s a fantastic open music event that came across my travel plan.
3. The costume parade after the music festival
I thought that’s it, but there was a costume parade at the plaza, it’s largely entertaining yet quite stray. You see the chicken-costumed guy there? He danced so lit! Too bad I did not record while he was dancing but that was the most insane and at the same time, cool dance I had ever seen.
4. Food
We stuck with Malay-Chinese food to make it halal and my preference was vegetarian. We stopped by at a restaurant named Saigon Green House, which served halal Chinese and Malay food. I got a plateful of garlic fried rice, which was so scrummy, despite the portion, The two friends of mine ordered the seafood fried rice, chicken soup, as well as fresh coconut.
5. The pulse of Saigon in the night
I love the LEDs and the vibe of this city in the night. I stood in front of Mekong that gets trough the city and behind me is the city view, plus all the flags of ASEAN members.
6. War Remnants Museum
A harrowing glimpse of Vietnam in the past. Full of graphic photos. This museum allows us to time travel to Vietnamese harsh times, war victims, and political situation in Vietnam pre-1976 and unification of North and South. The museum has an outdoor displays of military vehicles, posters about movements that existed in the era, a horrid guillotine, and a diorama of a detainee, plus a souvenir shops that sell postcards, military costumes, and books about Vietnam.
7. A glimpse of outdoor exhibition.
8. A glimpse of some indoor statement banner and photos.
9. Gazing through the aprons, taxiways, and runways.
I’ll be back to Vietnam to explore more about this country. It’s a pleasure to have ever experienced one of the peninsular Indochina.
10. Tan Son Nhat International Airport (Outbound)
SGN airport is an international airport serving worldwide international flights. It’s so busy here. Congestions are quite excessive. Immigration checkpoints offer ASEAN passports to have a special line, which is awesome to minimize time to exit the country and of course for the convenience to reduce the line.

Mildred Beltré _ Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam - Days 22-24
Friday March 8 , Saturday, Sunday March 10
Arrived in DaLat
It so different. Everyone kept telling how cold it would be and I have to admit it is quite cool. It also rained. Really hard.
I’ve had some good food here already. Met a cute couple Vietnamese couple from Australia. One of them picks the movies that they show on Quantas Air. I never thought about the fact that someone has to pick the movies. She talked to me a little about what the criteria are, content, length, also variety., etc.
There was also a couple from Montreal, Canada there. I could tell the woman was wondering where I was from, she kept staring at me and kind of orbiting around me. She hereself was half Ecuadorian. She finally started talking to me. It was funny to watch her approach. They were there visiting their son who is living in Vietnam and has a Vietnamese girlfriend, or as I have heard Vietnamese girlfriends refered to, long haired dictionary. People in Vietnam often do not know where i am from. American is maybe not heir first choice.
Embroidery museum. XQ house. I found that place very confusing. It was nice to see the first few pieces of embroidery which is very photographic and detailed but it was too much overall. The place was so big. I liked seeing some of the tools and things like that. I am always interested in looking at tools in museums.
Met really nice people Hoang, Phi Long, Dat,Tolan, Hong. Had coffee at a house that was maybe built by the Spanish. Also traveled up into the hills to visit a coffee farm that also had an art gallery. Riding around by motorbke there terrified me way more. I just kept imagine falling off the road into the valley. it was just hilly but windy too. Poor Phi Long, I felt bad he had to ride me around.
Visited the Biolgical research Museum. A super run down Natural history museum place. I was as interested in the building and state of the building as I was in the stuffed animals. They animals all looked like they had died a long time ago.
Night market and second hand clothes shops. Saw a big fight when I was passing through the Night Market and was into a big building that seemed to also to be a market with lots of food and second hand clothing vendors. Some woman was really mad at some young guy who was yelling back but also just kept eating sunflower seeds he kept pulling out of his pocket. Between yelling he would spit the shells on the ground.
Fire on Foundation of Hoang’s house. Future location of home used for barbeques and hosting events. It is a house with no walls a this point
Meeting Amanda ( a former Whitney Curator from New York) and Kels who works for Square space, said she would fix problem I am having with my square space hosted website. What a weird thing.
Dat and Tolans place: Walked there using Google maps but I never would have found it. It was way down a hill. way to complicated for google maps. Romantic location, Looking into a valley. Not quite an indoor space, inside and outside somewhat blurred. Pit in floor to make fires to warm apartment. There were pitchers of homemade wines everywhere awaiting the building of Future bar in Da lat. It is going to be a green house with a metal frame covered in plastic with lots of fruit trees inside, there will also be an artist studio. Sounds like it will be great.
Rain, So much rain. Very lush there and very humid and hilly, lots of flowers,
walked a lot with my bag. Was having a bad google maps day. Kept getting lost. Worried I would get caught in the rain but I made it just as it started to pour.
Went with Dat to an Italian restaurant and cute bar called Fox Den, it was tiny with maybe 4 tables. We were the only ones there for a while and then all these young poeple showed up. They took pictures of their drinks and stared at their phones most of the time.
Missed Saigon.
