A Guide to Defending Noctarn
This one is the Frostwreath mythic hunter. I’m not a fan of her spellset, while I acknowledge she’s strong. Honestly I don’t see her as being viable for much longer, but for now, she’s still terrorising a lot of bases. Again, this dragon requires skill to fly well. Make use of people mistiming blinks to kill her. This guide also assumes that you’ve read my base guide, which is...going to be long, so I’m not going to work on it until I’m through with my dragon defence guides, I guess. Make your assumptions and have fun with it!
Base - You’ll want two mages, with a minimum of one red mage, and preferably an ice flak on your base. It is definitely VERY nice to have lightnings in the front row of island 4, and the howitzer is always very nice to have. Storm is optional imo but always good to have for versatility on any good base; in this case I don’t think specifically Noctarn gives too much of a shit about it since it’ll probably get snowed or outblinked. - Position your red mage(s) at corners of your island; highest damage towers on the remaining corners. If you have a blue mage, a corner/center position are both fine. Storm/earth can go anywhere, but a weird placement for the storm specifically works wonders; it’s often hard for unskilled flyers to double snow a middle storm. - Lightnings in the front row of 4. How in the front row of 4. - Red mage in the back row of 4. - The below setup works; but it’d probably better to have a lightning in place of the fire flak for a Noctarn-specific setup.
Active Defense - Time your supershots such that none fire before Noctarn’s first blink. Having the ice flak supershot hit her immediately after said first blink will be nice, but will only catch incompetent flyers. Still good to do, though. - Supershot your mages one by one, again, the blue is a better bet than the red since it likely won’t be snowed first. Noctarn depends on rage to keep flying; once she gets hit by one mage she’s dead to your row 4 and any remaining unsnowed towers on your kill island. - Supershot all lightnings in the front row of 4, it’s likely to bring an unresisted Naja down. DO NOT supershot the howitzer; never do so for dragons that don’t have shields. The damage is potent. - Place all remaining supershots on ice flak and mages as Noc flies past.

Outblinker | Affiche

Stirling DIY Press Collective presents: OUTBLINKER + DEATH BED + MR BLISTER
We’re back at the Mediterranea with incredible kraut/noise/post rock band OUTBLINKER.
They played the Mediterranea a year or two back, and were mega, making the building pulsate with their noisy krautrock/post-rock rhythms thrown through a wall of amps with mad strobes and moving lights, while the smoke machine regularly set off the smoke alarm (sorry John). It was a blast. The band features members and ex-members of Kabobo, Young Philadelphia, Dead or American, Hey Enemy and Strata. They recorded and produced their recent EP "The Remains of Walter Peck" with Blanck Mass/Fuck Buttons mastermind and respected producer Ben Power (Mogwai, John Carpenter, Jean Michel Jarre, Manic Street Preachers). Outblinker were also the first "DIY" self-managed British band to be premiered in famous American music publication SPIN, alongside bad jokes like Kanye West and Imagine Dragons. In support are the excellent, rarely spotted, Death Bed - the new post-punk project fronted by Innes Nolan of Polarnecks/Sulka/Lovely Ladies/Frank fame. For fans of Polvo, Fugazi, Slint, Shellac. Plus the awesome drone/noise ambient solo project of Luc Grindle (Pillow Talk/Soft Drinks Club/Youth Group) - Mr Blister. Steeped in reverb, built through subtle layers of abrasive noise and delay, it's only had one outing so far and was GREAT. £5 on the door.
Doorsy 7.30pm.

Outblinker Interview - The Remains of Walter Peck
Outblinker Interview – The Remains of Walter Peck
When the lights across the planet finally go out for the last time and all the MP3s evaporate in microscopic puffs of electrons and all the CD’s lie scattered across the land like the scales of some huge, extinct fish: what then for all these idiotic fucking pop songs? And what then for the Bach and Simone, Mercury and Mingus? Nothing. That’s what. Sweet anonymity. Sheer oblivion. And as time…

Outblinker collaborate with Benjamin Power on pulsating single 'Techno Viking'
Techno Viking is the pulsating new single taken from Outblinker's soon-to-be-released debut full-length album. Written on a recording session with Benjamin Power (Blanck Mass/ Fuck Buttons) in the Orkney Islands, the track was a culmination of Outblinker’s growth as a band having spent a multiple years touring across the European DIY scene, from theatres to squats, from converted abattoirs in the Basque country to an abandoned train in Germany, evolving, experimenting, and absorbing the lessons of touring companions like France's astonishing super-group La Colonie De Vacances. outblinker · Techno Viking Outblinker have built upon the krautrock sound that has become synonymous with them, incorporating the melodrama created by John Carpenter with the explorative, atmospheric sounds produced by Beak>, and integrating the percussive tussles of groups like Vessels with the energised post-punk of Wire's later years. Techno Viking is a more nuanced and dynamic sound that embraces poppy melodic hooks as well as a hint of malice. Oublinker first came to prominence through the release of their propulsive debut EP The Remains Of Walter Peck in 2016 gaining support from the likes of SPIN, NME, Clash Magazine, The Skinny, The Line of Best Fit and many more. #alternative #benjaminpower #electro #Electronica #Outblinker #Single Read the full article

OUTBLINKER – The Remains of Walter Peck [Stabbed In The Back]
OUTBLINKER’s newest EP The Remains of Walter Peck is a swirl of driving drums, glitching effects and subtle synths, reminiscent of the soundtrack of dark 80s movies such as The Terminator. ‘Walter Peck’, the man who according to Bill Murray has no dick, is all build up, menacing, threatening and relentless, layering sounds over each other for a solid six-and-a-half-minutes, before tripping itself…

Preview: Strange Behaviours Summer Party
The Tolbooth’s annual indie/alt/other(?) fest Strange Behaviours Festival has been reimagined for 2017, splitting the 2 evening event into 2 separate evenings spaced out across the year. The first of 2 stand-alone mini-festival days is on Saturday 8th July – the Strange Behaviours Summer Party. The other will come later in the year. We take a look at what to expect...
From 7.30pm at the Tolbooth, multiple stages featuring the most innovative, fun, thrilling, living-breathing-touring-eating-recording-partying-writing-sleeping-DIY bands from across Scotland open up to make one hell of a racket. Some of the most vital and real music from the world of indie, all under one roof.
Featuring an eclectic range of styles and genres, it’s a bit of a celebration of what is happening up and down the country in Scotland’s DIY band scene, fueled by the love of what they do and the ambition to make music on their own terms.
The lineup!:
PAWS – thrilling live band / physically incapable of writing a bad song / caught somewhere wonderful between 90s US indie and punk, garage and pop-punk. Tirelessly touring the UK/US/Europe, releasing sublime records on Fat Cat, one of Scotland’s finest and hardest working bands. (Listen)
Loki – forefather of Scottish hip-hop uprising, cutting/hilarious/unhinged/wildly articulate/thought-provoking supernova with (maybe) swansong album ‘Trigger Warning’ a last swipe at the best and worst of Scottish and British society. One of your last chances to see him live. (Listen)
Spinning Coin – the finest in kooky-pop and garage jangle, championed by some of the best left-field DIY labels in Scotland (Winning Sperm Party / Fuzzkill) and now at home on Domino Records imprint Geographic. (Listen)
Graham Costello’s STRATA – mind-blowing minimalist/prog-jazz fusion quintet orchestrated and led by the peerless Graham Costello (drummer with Young Philadelphia / Outblinker). Encorporating the unusual time signatures and bombast of some seminal math rock and post rock bands (Don Caballero / Do Make Say Think / Battles) with the nuance, subtlety, structure and dynamism of Costello and the band’s jazz background (Royal Conservatoire of Scotland). Unbelievable. Don’t miss. Actually, if you play drums/keys/guitar/bass/sax and enjoy doing so, maybe you should give it a miss. A band with musicianship so hot that it may stop you from picking up your instrument ever again. (Listen)
Passion Pusher – loose and slacker to the brink of acerbity, expect harsh and dissonant fuzzed out guitars, slurred vocals, tongues in cheeks and bittersweet obscured pop. (Listen)
Canal Capitale – one of the finest math rock bands in the country, tight as all hell without ever loosing the raw force and delicacy of seminal math rock bands like Pele, Faraquet, American Football and early Foals. (Listen)
Quick – soulful Americana/folk, dense with harmonies and heavy with emotional story telling. New home for local face singer-songwriter Alex Hynes. (Listen)
