Off Grid Stuff.
So, Ive had captain Benbo for over 4 years now. It’s a 31 yr old MAN 8.136 7.5t converted horse box.
The only thing original is the hob and oven. As I built and used it as a solar generator truck for our Showmany Calliope stage and sound system I have a lot of 240v for my personal needs!
Here’s what powers it all.

Thats 8 x Trojan T105 batteries wired up series parallel to feed the Outback Flexmax 60a solar controller and Victron 24v 2.5k pure sign wave inverter. 4 x 230w panels fill most of the rigs roof.
Inside its as off grid as I can be. LPG for cooking and heating the water via an instant water heater, Don’t worry I will cut the vent out soon! All is pumped through a 240v 250w pressure vessel water pump.

That gives hot water to the sink and my reclaimed floor bamboo shower. Found a lovely old brass watering can rose that gives nice coverage.
I have 2 water tanks under Benbo, about 1/2 cubic metre in all. They were empty today and joy of joys I filled them up from the stream!

Thats it for now, I’m facing NE and my solar panels are flat on the roof so I’ll have to have a think whats best.

Installed this system for a gentlemen who is building a house where grid power isn't available. Specs are: (20) Canadian Solar 300W Modules, IronRidge ground mount, Outback FlexMax TWO (7.2 kW) Inverter and 100A charge controller, Outback 800RE AGM battery bank providing 670 Ah @ 48V. Should provide roughly 17 kwh of usable energy (50% DoD). No integrated generator, but we did install a hookup that can be used to charge the batteries, or power his house in bypass mode if needed.
Our customer wanted something that was reliable, warranted, and would last a long time. He also wanted to live as he would in a grid connected house.
I get a lot of requests for customers wanting to take their homes offgrid. This install was over $60k, and only provides ~17kWh. Grid-tied, this system would be ~$24k (ground mount grid-tied).
