While reading the Market Research by Harvard Business School 9-592-034 I was thinking about the Tyto Care product, an on demand medical exam at home. The product contains a device with exam camera and thermometer, otoscope, stethoscope, tongue depressor and the TytoApp.

The main question we would like to answer is what is the market share and how well will users adopt this kind of product?  
Since Tyto is considered a disruptive invention, I will assume most of the data we will collect for the marketing strategy will be primary data, collected especially for these efforts. We can also use secondary data just for estimating growth opportunities and assess total market size.
In order to gain more insights, I would suggest setting a non-experimental qualitative survey at first. In this survey we can derive the understanding of how people feel about using this type of devices at home. We will ask about their concerns and challenges and also try to assess willingness to pay and added value. Later on, we will continue to a more quantitate survey to assess the competitive advantage being tested at home with Tyto holds, for different segments of the population.
We would be remised if we don’t take into account the effects of insurance coverage on adoption of the device and app. First, we will check coverage options, and then incorporate these in experimental laboratory research. We will ask questions such as – for this percentage coverage how likely are you to purchase the device?
One last endeavor before going on the devising a marketing strategy is understanding way of use and retention. We might think of a “razor-blade” model with user subscriptions, or on the other hand, get the main revenue from selling the device and app installations.
