I was telling a friend about my favorite drivers (I didn't tell him they were drivers but I assumed he knew) and when I showed him photos he asked me if they were a band 😭😭 Can you imagine a band with these members?

February 1st, 2024 - London, United Kingdom
The late afternoon light streamed through the floor-to-ceiling windows of Amelie’s grandmother’s sprawling London home. It was a beautiful, historic house with ornate moldings, tall ceilings, and the smell of freshly brewed tea wafting from the kitchen. Lando sat on the edge of a plush armchair in the living room, his elbows on his knees, hands clasped tightly together. He could feel the tension in the air, thick and suffocating, as Amelie stood across from him, pacing.
Her brow furrowed, and her arms crossed tightly over her chest. She looked both frustrated and scared, her movements restless, her eyes darting everywhere except to meet his.
—Why are you acting like this is nothing, Ames?— Lando's voice broke through the silence, his British accent sharper than usual, frustration dripping from every word. —Like we’re nothing?—
Amelie stopped pacing, her lips parting to respond, but the words didn’t come immediately. She ran a hand through her hair, exhaling sharply. —I’m not saying we’re nothing, Lando,— she finally said, her voice quieter than his but tinged with a defensive edge. —But you don’t understand...—
—Then help me understand!— Lando stood, cutting her off, his height making his presence more imposing. His hands gestured animatedly. —I told my family about us! I’ve been honest about this... about you. But you? You’re still hiding me like I’m some... some mistake you regret.—
Her eyes flashed at his words, and she took a step closer to him, her own frustration bubbling to the surface. —It’s not like that, and you know it!—
—Do I?— he shot back, his voice raising. —Because it feels like every time we get close to something real, you freak out and push me away. You don’t even want your family to know. Your mum found out because your grandma told her, and instead of owning it, you panicked like a teenager caught sneaking out.—
Amelie’s cheeks flushed with anger and embarrassment, and her fists clenched at her sides. —This isn’t just about me, Lando! You don’t understand the pressure I’m under, the expectations. My family— She paused, shaking her head as her voice cracked. —They expect me to have everything under control, to be perfect, to make no mistakes. Do you know how they’d react if they found out I’ve been sneaking around with you for months? Do you know what they’d say?—
Lando let out a humorless laugh, stepping back and raking a hand through his hair. —God forbid Amelie Dayman does something for herself for once, right?— His words were sharp, and he knew they stung by the way her face fell.
—That’s not fair,— she whispered, her voice trembling.
—No, what’s not fair is you making me feel like I’m some secret you’re ashamed of,— he shot back, his voice growing louder. —I’ve put myself out there for you, Ames. I’ve been patient. I’ve tried to understand your world, your family, your life. But you? You can’t even give me the same courtesy. Do you even want this? Do you even want me?—
The question hung heavy in the air, cutting through the space between them like a blade. Amelie’s breath hitched, her eyes brimming with tears she refused to let fall. She turned her back to him, gripping the edge of the fireplace mantel for support.
—Of course I want you,— she finally said, her voice barely audible. —But I’m scared, Lando. Scared of what it means, of what it changes, of what I’ll lose.—
Her words, though honest, only deepened the ache in Lando’s chest. He stepped closer, his tone softening but still laced with hurt. —You won’t lose anything, Ames. If anything, you’d gain someone who— He stopped himself, his voice catching. —Someone who cares about you more than you realize. But if you can’t even admit to the people closest to you that I’m part of your life, then maybe I’m wrong. Maybe I’m just fooling myself thinking this means something to you.—
Amelie turned around then, her tears spilling over despite her best efforts. —It does mean something,— she choked out. —It means everything. But I don’t know how to—
—How to what?— Lando interrupted, his voice breaking slightly. —How to let yourself be happy? How to let me in? Or how to stop running away every time it gets hard?—
The room fell silent, save for their uneven breathing. Lando’s own eyes burned, but he refused to let the tears fall. He couldn’t—not here, not now.
Amelie took a hesitant step toward him, reaching out as if to touch him, but he stepped back. The movement felt like a dagger to her heart. —Lando, please,— she whispered, her voice cracking.
Lando shook his head, his jaw tightening as he fought the wave of emotions threatening to spill over. —No, Ames. I can’t keep doing this. I can’t keep being the one who fights for this when you won’t even try.— His voice was quieter now, but the pain in his words cut deeper.
Amelie’s hand fell back to her side, her chest rising and falling with the weight of her silent sobs. —I am trying,— she insisted, her voice desperate. —You have no idea how hard this is for me. You don’t understand the stakes, the scrutiny. Everything I do is under a microscope. My relationships, my choices... everything. And if this doesn’t work, if we don’t work, I’ll be the one who pays the price.—
Lando’s face twisted in disbelief. —So you’re already planning for us to fail? Is that it?— He took another step back, his voice cracking now. —God, Ames, I thought we were in this together. But it feels like I’m just waiting for you to pull the rug out from under me.—
Amelie shook her head vehemently, tears streaming freely now. —That’s not what I’m saying! I just... I don’t know how to balance everything. I’m scared, Lando. Of losing you, of losing them. Of messing everything up.—
—You know what, Ames?— Lando said, his voice low and trembling with barely contained emotion. —You are messing it up. Not because of your family, not because of the media, but because you’re too scared to even try. And I can’t keep being the only one who believes in us.—
Amelie flinched as if his words had physically struck her. She opened her mouth to respond, but no words came. Her silence only confirmed his worst fears.
Lando exhaled shakily, running a hand through his hair as he looked at her one last time. His eyes, usually warm and full of affection, were now clouded with hurt. —I need some air,— he muttered, his voice barely audible.
—Lando, wait— Amelie reached out again, but this time he didn’t stop.
—No, Amelie,— he said firmly, his voice breaking. —I can’t do this right now. I need to think. And maybe... maybe you do too.—
Before she could say anything else, he turned and walked toward the door, his steps heavy with the weight of everything left unsaid. Amelie stood frozen, her heart pounding in her chest as she watched him open the door and leave without another word.
The sound of the door closing echoed through the house, leaving an unbearable silence in its wake. Amelie sank to the floor, her knees giving out beneath her as the sobs she’d been holding back finally broke free. She buried her face in her hands, the image of Lando’s devastated expression seared into her mind.
Upstairs, the faint chime of her phone on the nightstand went unnoticed, a reminder of the life and obligations waiting for her. But in this moment, none of it mattered. She felt hollow, her chest aching with the weight of everything she couldn’t say and the fear that she might have just lost the one person who made her feel whole.
And outside, Lando walked down the quiet street, the cold London air biting at his skin. His mind raced with emotions he couldn’t control, each step feeling heavier than the last. For the first time in months, he wondered if this was all a mistake—if loving Amelie was destined to break him.
The thought brought a fresh sting to his eyes, but he refused to let the tears fall. Not here, not now. Not yet.
