The Tropicals :: Urubamba

Originally released in 1972, The Tropicals’ Urubamba was, until recently, a deeply rare collection of the experimental library sounds of Italian composers Giancarlo Barigozzi aka Ginazzi & Oscar Rocchi aka Chiarosi. An album delighting in all manners of jazz, funk, fusion, easy-listening, and Afro-beat, it saw its first ever reissue last month in celebration of its fiftieth anniversary, via the Italian-based Sleeve Records.

This show was recorded a year ago, in June 2019. I can’t believe during one-year things have changed SO much, worldwide and personally. There is so much on this show, I need to describe it a little bit. So It’s divide blatantly in two: the first part with Library Music, with names in the like of Antonio Luciani, Oscar Rocchi, Silvano Clementi, James Campbell, and many many others. The second half - from about minute 40 - is a dark (proto) electronic trip throughout obscure synths tunes and post-punk songs. It features “Fragment Eleven’ by Kenneth Bager from the 2006 record “Fragments From A Space Cadet”. highly recommended.

Another weird moment of the show is the soundtrack of this leather-queer German Movie called Stadt Der Verlorenen Seelen (Berlin Blues), which is known also as City of Lost Soul. The film is a low budget musical satire, a fictionalized account about the lurid lives of a group of eccentric cabaret artist who have come from America to Berlin looking for social acceptance and a place to give full reign to their creative nature. The film star black singer and drag artist Angie Stardust, transgender punk singer Jayne County and transvestite Tara O'Hara. County gave the film its title and wrote its theme song.

Towards the end, I also play this one, which I deeply love. Classic De Wolfe music. A true gem from the Netherland. it makes me so content and happy every time I listen to it. I want this to be my soundtrack when I walk down the streets of London.
