Cosmic Analog Ensemble - Les Grandes Vacances - this one is essentially a library music album as it stands ("The Great Vacation"). I don't think I noticed before that this is a one-man "ensemble"
Jakarta Records is proud to present “Les Grandes Vacances” courtesy of Beirut’s Cosmic Analog Ensemble, aka multi-instrumental phenom Charif Megarbane. The LP is an expansive musical odyssey, one that paints a melodic tapestry woven from an eclectic panorama of sonic tools. Funky beats, dreamy melodies + cinematic flair combine to create an experience that transcends time. From vibrant funky energy to introspective moods and library-inspired tunes, “Les Grandes Vacances” captures the essence of past and present, inviting you to indulge in the perfect balance of “groove-stalgia.” Composition, production, arrangements and mixing: Charif Megarbane Instruments: Charif Megarbane Instruments: electric guitar, 6 & 12-string acoustic guitar, baritone guitar, electric bass, theremin, vibraphone, piano, harpsichord, electric koto, Mellotron, Wurlitzer, Rhodes, Moog, Farfisa, melodica, flute, drums, drum machine, percussion, field recordings, vocals. Recorded in Beirut & Lisbon in 2023.

Library music is often used in television, radio and film productions. This low-budget, pre-written music is intended to convey particular moods to the audience. Entire LPs, named by theme and often in multiple volumes, are dedicated to a wide variety of moods and concepts such as 'business dynamism', 'modern leisure', 'relaxed terror', 'perky dismay' and 'unspecified uncertainty'.  ...

Acquital by David Lindup was a library music track often used in low budget movies when someone was trying to crack a safe or sneak past a security guard.
It was also used as the opening music in the Twilight People (1972)

If you love the classic MST3K short Progress Island U.S.A. and you also happen to love 70’s library music cues (that would be me) then you are in luck. I made a playlist of all of the music used in the film.

library musicians in the 70s and 80s would compose the greatest synth masterpieces of all time only for them to be used in the background of like 3 obscure TV movies and then forgotten for decades

2. ‘Top Brass', by Matt Berry.
Put aside the Matt Berry you’ve seen on TV, all brash arrogance and stilted falsetto; his real creativity can be found in his music.
Top Brass is Berry’s nod towards library music, the vast treasure troves of music that could be licenced and used by pretty much anybody for incidental or main music in TV or film. Not only has Berry captured the essence of seventies television, but he has also composed and performed an entire library in his ‘Simplicity’ album. Everything is published by arguably one of the greatest names in the scene, KPM Music.
That’s living the dream.
‘Top Brass’ is the lead track; there’s so much to love here. The tiny rhythm sets the scene, the layers of introduction before the bass arrives, the mic drop moments where everything physically freezes before snapping back to the beat. I can’t decide if it's the opening theme to a Luxemburg City detective drama, a revived Sportsnight, or a sitcom set in the Royal Albert Hall’s orchestra pit… that’s what the delightful mix of library music, the listener’s imagination, and the composer's inventiveness can offer.
Top Brass is a niche song on a niche record label for a niche subject. And it’s fabulous.
More on this and the songs in my yearly favourites can be found at https://tinyurl.com/2023x12.
