iHeart Radio Celebrates Pride Month
The article below is written by iHeart, and normally I don't publish P.R. releases, but in this case, iHeart has a positive story to tell. Kudos to the organization. Pride Month, after all, is not a stunt or a festival or a parade. Pride Month honors the 1969 Stonewall riots, and works to achieve equal justice and equal opportunity for lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, and questioning (LGBTQ) Americans. It's not just a celebration by the LGBTQ+ community. It is also, and should be, a celebration of the LGBTQ+ community.
Take it away, iHeart:
It’s officially Pride Month, and iHeart has no shortage of ways to celebrate the LGBTQ+ community this month and beyond.
Find the perfect soundtrack to your festivities with iHeart’s Pride-themed programming all month long: from Can’t Cancel Pride 2024 and the best in music on PRIDE Radio to iHeartPodcasts from your favorite LGBTQ+ creators and Pride parties hosted by local radio stations across the country.
Don’t miss our fifth annual “Can’t Cancel Pride'' event tomorrow, June 12 with performances from some of the most influential voices in the community and its allies, including Elton John Impact Award Recipient and host Billy Porter, Allison Russell, Ben Platt, David Archuleta, Meghan Trainor, Melissa Etheridge, Orville Peck, RAYE, Victoria Monét and more. The event provides much-needed visibility and funding for six LGBTQ+ organizations – CenterLink, GLAAD, National Black Justice Coalition, Outright International, The Trevor Project and SAGE – to continue the transformative work they are accomplishing in support of the LGBTQ+ community. Fans can tune in to the one-hour benefit special, produced by iHeartMedia and P&G, on iHeartRadio’s YouTube and Facebook pages, Hulu and Revry tomorrow, June 12 at 8 p.m. ET / 5 p.m. PT and the special will also be available to stream throughout Pride Month.
Plus, celebrate anywhere you are with iHeart’s Outspoken Podcast Network, featuring a lineup of shows that aim to amplify, elevate and reflect the diversity, richness and humanity of the voices throughout the LGBTQ+ community.
Go deep on the issues with intimate, truth-only conversations from “The Laverne Cox Show”; learn more about the untold stories of queer history on “But We Loved” through elders of the community; find out why “Because the Boss Belongs to Us” makes the case for Bruce Springsteen being recognized as a queer icon; and explore the world of queer sex, cruising, relationships, culture and more on “Sniffies' Cruising Confessions.” Plus so much more, find a full list of Outspoken shows here.

JetBlue Releases Annual Social Impact and Environmental Social Governance Reports
JetBlue (Nasdaq: JBLU) today released its 2018-2019 Social Impact Report, as well as its abbreviated 2019 Environmental Social Governance (ESG) Report.
The annual reports outline the JetBlue For Good pillars – community, youth and education and the environment. The social impact report focuses on how and where JetBlue crewmembers volunteered for one million hours of caring and the airline’s philanthropic efforts, while the ESG report identifies key sustainability factors that affect the airline’s business and financial performance.
“The JetBlue experience keeps people and culture at the heart of everything we do,” said Icema Gibbs, director corporate social responsibility and diversity, equity & inclusion, JetBlue. “Over the past few months, we’ve realized that our mission of inspiring humanity is more essential than ever. As a values-based airline, we have a long history of using our voice to unite our crewmembers, customers and communities during difficult times. We try to make change in ways that are authentic to us. Bringing our mission of inspiring humanity to life isn’t new. These reports showcase our ongoing work to make a positive impact for the environment, in our communities and beyond.”
JetBlue For Good 2018-2019 highlights –
Youth and Education
JetBlue’s Soar with Reading program brought the magic of reading to children in areas known as book deserts in San Francisco, Oakland, and New York City. To date, JetBlue has donated $3.75 million worth of books to kids in need.
Through the 2018 and 2019 Swing For Good campaigns, JetBlue and its business partners raised much-needed funds for youth and education focused charities and distributed more than $2 million to DoSomething.org, First Book, Together We Rise, Feeding Children Everywhere and the JetBlue Foundation.
The JetBlue Foundation continued its work to add more diversity in science, technology, engineering and math (STEM) and aviation by supporting education programs focused on girls and women, people of color and other communities who are under-represented in these areas. The JetBlue Foundation has supported more than 90 STEM and aviation programs with $1.7 million in grants, in-kind support and mentoring.
Environment
JetBlue recently announced plans to achieve carbon neutral flying for its domestic routes later this year as a critical and measurable step toward reducing its contribution to global warming. JetBlue aims to avoid emissions through a new, fuel-efficient fleet and optimized operational efficiency and by pursuing sustainable aviation fuel (SAF) where feasible. Over the past five years, JetBlue has achieved consistent reductions in Scope 1-3 emissions on an intensity basis, and improved 2.2 percent from 2018 to 2019.
For emissions that cannot be avoided, JetBlue will soon offset CO2 emissions from jet fuel for all domestic flights. Leading up to this launch, JetBlue has offset more than 2.6 billion pounds of CO2 emissions in partnership with Carbonfund.org since 2008. More details will be announced shortly.
By converting to electric ground service equipment (eGSE) at New York’s JFK Airport, JetBlue is projected to cut four million pounds of CO2 greenhouse gas emission per year, reduce ground fuel usage by approx. 200,000 gallons fuel and improve its bottom line with more than $500,000 in ground fuel savings annually.
Community
In the wake of Hurricane Maria, crewmembers rose to the occasion and provided more than 450 relief flights and $1.2 million in grants from the JetBlue Crewmember Crisis Fund to impacted crewmembers located in Puerto Rico and the Caribbean.
In 2019, JetBlue added a new destination to its network – Destination Good, flying 100 customer volunteers to a surprise location for four days of service on Giving Tuesday.
Looking ahead to 2020 and beyond -
Between the coronavirus pandemic and the civil outcry for racial justice and equality, 2020 has challenged JetBlue to shift gears to meet immediate needs. This included flying nearly 2,000 medical professionals to areas in need to support relief effort, transporting personal protective equipment to New York City and delivering critical supplies to health care facilities, and donating one million TrueBlue to the American Red Cross and other organizations to aid in relief work.
“Thank you to our crewmembers for their dedicated service during the pandemic getting essential personnel and travelers, for whom travel was not an option but a necessity, to their destinations safely,” said Gibbs. “Our crewmembers also sought out ways to help in their local communities, all while taking care of their own families and personal needs during this trying time.”
JetBlue is also working to ensure that Black Lives Matter and are equally valued, and eradicating racism. JetBlue has committed to fight against racial injustices and reduce bias and barriers starting with accelerating its diversity and inclusion equity action plan to better support people of color within the airline such as expediting a concerted effort for more leadership diversity.
To start, these efforts incorporate but are not limited to:
Reviewing training modules for cultural sensitivity
Identifying opportunities to reshape policies and talent processes to reduce bias and demonstrate inclusivity
Expanding opportunities for minority and women-owned business partners
Investing in students from underrepresented communities through the JetBlue Foundation to reduce the barriers to entry and create educational and employment opportunities in the aviation industry
Want to get in on the good? – If you would like to join JetBlue in doing good, loyalty members can donate points through the TrueBlue Points Donation Platform to a variety of social justice charities that are working to help eradicate racism. JetBlue is encouraging giving by donating one million points each to the New York Urban League and long-standing partner – Organization of Black Aerospace Professionals (OBAP) to help their work for racial equality and justice. Points go directly to the selected charity, and each may use them for travel for their organization. For more information or to donate points visit trueblue.jetblue.com/donate-points.
JetBlue’s 2018-2019 Social Impact Report can be found here and the 2019 ESG Report can be found here.
Giving back is part of JetBlue’s DNA and is core to its mission of inspiring humanity –
Centered around volunteerism and service, JetBlue For Good focuses on the areas that are most important to the airline’s customers and crewmembers - Community, Youth/Education and the Environment. JetBlue’s core programs and partnerships directly impact the areas where its customers and crewmembers live and work by enhancing education and providing access to those who are traditionally underserved. Signature programs include the award-winning Soar with Reading initiative, which has provided more than $3.75 million worth of books to kids who need them most and Blue Horizons For Autism, which helps introduce air travel in a realistic environment to families and children affected by autism. Join the #JetBlueForGood conversation on Twitter, Instagram and Facebook, check for regular updates, and get involved.

10 To Watch : Mayor’s Edition 11419
RICK HORROW’S TOP 10 SPORTS/BIZ/TECH/PHILANTHROPY ISSUES FOR THE WEEK OF NOVEMBER 4 : MAYOR’S EDITION
with Jacob Aere
Fully 14.8% of all World Series ads focused on giving back and corporate social responsibility. There were more advocacy and corporate social responsibility ads aired during the first four games of the World Series than any other type of ad outside of auto makers, according to data from Advertising Analytics, a strategy firm that specializes in political and issues advertising. The World Series attracted mostly defense, enterprise technology, and healthcare ads. While this was a departure from typical sports championships, in which consumer package goods and retail ads typically dominate, Axios noted World Series games in DC presented a juicy opportunity for brands to “reach Washington decision-makers in a casual environment. While many marquee advertisers sponsor events around Washington DC, there are few games that will have as high of an impact and as engaged of an audience as a World Series that includes a Washington team.” As the hyper-political environment in Washington becomes more contentious, companies are pressured to take a stand on more issues than they have in the past – and this is reflected in their marketing initiatives. Expect this trend to continue at least through the 2020 election cycle.
A college players' rights group has entered into a partnership with the NFL Players Association to explore how to maximize name, image, and likeness rights. A day before the NCAA announcement last week, the NFLPA and National College Players Association (NCPA) announced jointly that the partnership will "explore opportunities for" college athletes in merchandise, gaming, licensed products, and "how recent developments impact television broadcast revenues in pursuit of fairness." California's Fair Pay to Play Act granting college athletes in that state the ability to profit off their name, image, and likeness goes into effect in 2023. A similar bill has been proposed in Florida, but it would go into effect far sooner—July 1, 2020. A Pennsylvania bill is expected to be introduced soon. Were college players able to unionize in a similar fashion to the way NFL players are able to collectively bargain, it would put even more pressure on the NCAA to craft new rules that give student athletes the same rights that all their classmates on campus currently enjoy.
Premier League Primary Stars USA visits Austin elementary school for soccer-themed learning. On October 25, Austin, Texas elementary school students worked side-by-side with Premier League stars during a soccer-themed educational experience. Premier League, the top level of the English soccer league system and EVERFI, a leader in driving social change through technology and education, recently joined forces to bring an interactive soccer-themed education program to students at Perez Elementary School in Austin. The event was part of the Premier League Primary Stars USA program, an educational initiative focused on health and wellness and social and emotional learning skills. Representatives from the Premier League and associated pro soccer clubs led a digital learning session, a hands-on soccer skills clinic, and a school-wide assembly centered on areas of critical emotional development. Perez students also engaged with visiting soccer stars, met mascots from four Premier League clubs, and saw the iconic Premier League trophy. On hand for the event were Premier League star winger and ambassador Shaun Wright-Phillips, EVERFI Global CMO Brian Cooley, Congressman Lloyd Doggett, and youth coaches from clubs including Aston Villa, Liverpool, Manchester City, and Wolverhampton.
Kansas City, here we come. Our “Power of Sports” program heads to Kansas City this month, highlighting community outreach programs, culturally significant sites, and people who have made a difference through sports. This month, host Rick Horrow visits the Negro Leagues Baseball Museum to speak with President Bob Kendrick about the 100th anniversary of the formation of the Negro Leagues coming up next year and the museum’s role in the celebration and in the community. He also checks in on two of the Kansas City Royals’ youth outreach programs: Royalty Fields grants and a recurring Special Olympics clinic, and hears from James McGinnis, a high school football player from the KC Metro, who suffered a traumatic brain injury and used the Chiefs’ success last season to motivate his recovery. Our Game Changer segment features an interview with former NFL Commissioner Paul Tagliabue filmed in early October at a Sport Business Handbook contributor symposium hosted by EVERFI at their Washington, DC headquarters
The Orlando Magic have "filed an updated master plan" for their downtown Orlando Sports + Entertainment District that is "expected to more than double" the original $200 million project budget. According to the Orlando Sentinel, the mixed-use district will be built "starting next year on 8.4 acres across from Amway Center." Magic Chief Communications Officer Joel Glass said the project will now cost "well over" $500 million. The district will "contain nearly 110,000 square feet of retail space, a conference center hotel with 80,000 square feet of event space, offices, apartments and a 2,500-space parking garage." The updated plan maintains the original concept from 2018 but "increases the number of hotel rooms by 50 and more than doubles the amount of office space from the original 200,000 square feet to 420,000 square feet." District Director Pat Gallagher said that the office tower "would now rise to 18 stories, which includes the ground-floor retail, multilevel parking structure and commercial office space." The Sentinel notes the Magic's new headquarters "would occupy 40,000 square feet in the office tower,” or close to 10%.
Unsung World Series winner this year: Palm Beach County, FL. The most publicized “first” this year involves the visiting team winning every World Series game. However, maybe one of the most important economic “firsts” is the first time the World Series finalists shared a Spring Training facility: the FITTEAM Ballpark of the Palm Beaches. The 7,700-seat stadium also features six practice fields each for the Washington Nationals and the Houston Astros. The 160-acre site also includes a 1.8 mile public walk trail and other facilities. The Palm Beach County Sports Commission touts the facility as a major economic generator for the county, as it also hosts over 1,400 youth and tournament baseball games each year. Look for a series of major announcements by the county and sports commission over the next two months.
San Diego State is now offering the city of San Diego $87.7 million for Mission Valley stadium site. San Diego State University is "now offering to pay" the city $19.5 million more than before to purchase the Mission Valley stadium property formerly occupied by the Chargers. According to the letter delivered last Monday to San Diego Mayor Kevin Faulconer, SDSU's new offer is $87.7 million, which consists of a "revised purchase price" of $86.2 million for 135 acres of land, plus an estimated $1.5 million to "account for a portion of the site's appreciation" since 2017. In addition, SDSU is "proposing to take over the portion" of Murphy Canyon Creek immediately adjacent to the site "without requiring the city to pay for any past-due maintenance,” according to the San Diego Union-Tribune. The news comes as SDSU cracked the Associated Press college football Top 25 for the first time in many years (they are now #24), an achievement that should aid local enthusiasm for the SDSU West project, as a new football/soccer stadium is part of the master plan.
Parisian soccer club PSG goes green with Gaussin transport deal. According to SportsPro, French soccer giant Paris Saint-Germain has signed a strategic partnership with the Gaussin Group for the supply of self-driving, 100% electric vehicles for public transport and goods transport. The long-term agreement includes equipment for all of the Ligue 1 champions’ infrastructure, including their new training complex which will open its doors in 2022. The deal also falls in line with PSG’s ambition to utilize innovations in sustainable development and autonomous mobility, especially with regard to the practice facility as it bids to become the first recognized Smart City in sports. The Gaussin Group will initially undertake research to understand where to best deploy its autonomous and electric mobility solutions before rolling out its products where it best suits the needs of the club. This deal marks a movement for sports franchises to be more environmentally conscious of their off-field impacts.
Philadelphia 76ers’ Tobias Harris donates $1 million to charities. According to 247 Sports, Harris announced a combined donation of $1 million to assist nine different charities in Philadelphia. He announced the charities and the dollar amount for each during a community draft at a local elementary school. The benefitting organizations include the Center for Black Educator Development which received $300,000; Read by 4th was given $200,000; The Fund for the School District of Philadelphia, the Foundation for Orange County Public Schools, and Legends Academy were all given $100,000; World Literacy Foundation and True Love Missions each received $75,000; and both WUFSD Wynadanch Memorial High School and Team Up Philly were given $25,000. Although Harris was traded just eight months ago from the Los Angeles Clippers, the basketball star seems to be investing heavily in the youth of Philadelphia, a city facing a major teacher shortage and in which two-thirds of third graders can’t read at grade level.
Call of Duty League launches in January, 2020. According to BusinessWire, Activision Blizzard Esports announced the inaugural season of the Call of Duty League will begin with the Call of Duty League Launch Weekend at the Minneapolis Armory January 24-26, 2020. The event will be hosted by Minnesota Røkkr, which is the Call of Duty League team operated by WISE Ventures Esports, under the ownership of the Minnesota Viking owner Wilf family and tech investor Gary Vaynerchuk. The league will feature all 12 of the professional Call of Duty League teams competing across three days, and the opening weekend will feature additional fan and player experiences to celebrate the launch of Activision Blizzard Esports’ highly anticipated new city-based league. In a concept that should appeal to traditional sports fans, the Call of Duty League follows a home-vs-away format with 5-versus-5 professional match play. Throughout the season, each team will host “Home Series” weekends in their market, with multiple pro teams competing at each which will draw in crowds to take part in the events and participate in one of the most far-reaching video game series ever created.

Democrats Have Lost Their Minds On Impeachment
By Rep. Andy Biggs (R-AZ) Via Townhall
Speaker Nancy Pelosi, Chairman Adam Schiff, and Democrat leaders in Congress are trying to remove President Trump through a series of closed-door hearings. They are ignoring longstanding precedent by preventing the public from scrutinizing the evidence and evaluating their witnesses. Presumably they will ignore precedent and prevent the President’s counsel from representing the President, while preventing Republicans from calling witnesses.
My constituents are savvy. They are watching the railroad job the Democrats are foisting on the President and the American public and they are not happy. Here are some likely reasons why the Democrats will press forward on impeachment even when every accusation they have made against this President has evaporated and proven to be unfounded. Constituents ask me why Democrats have lost their minds. Here are some reasons as I see them.

Trump's Executive Order Protects America's Seniors from Democrats' Medicare for All
Via Fox News
President Trump on Thursday signed an executive order giving a broader role to Medicare's private insurance option – as he vowed to protect the current system from Democratic presidential candidates' calls to enact “Medicare-for-all.”
Medicare itself remains popular, but the calls to enact a single-payer, government-run system for everyone are far more controversial. Signing the order at the Villages – a retirement community north of Orlando – Trump singled out Democrats he said want to “totally obliterate Medicare.” “They want to raid Medicare to fund the idea of socialism,” Trump said. “All of the Democrats' plans would totally devastate our health care plans.”
Trump added, “Democratic health care proposals would put everyone into a single-payer, socialist government-run plan.”

Experience Is the Best Teacher, But That's Not How I Want My Kids to Learn About Socialism
By Sen. Rand Paul (R-KY) Via Fox Business
What is it about socialism that casts such a spell that people refuse to acknowledge history? Time and time again socialism leads to the impoverishment of nations. Perhaps it is the allure of equality or fairness. Surveys in America alarmingly show about half of today’s youth have a favorable opinion of socialism.
When I was researching my forthcoming book, “The Case Against Socialism,” I was horrified to discover a Gallup poll finding that only 45 percent of young American adults (age 18–29) have a positive view of capitalism, while 51 percent of this same group see socialism positively. These surveys link approval of socialism to a corresponding desire among young Americans to live in a “fair” world. Blasi and Kruse of Rutgers University write that “today’s youth reject capitalism; what they really want is fairness.”

Warren Wants to Tax Your First Amendment Rights
Via Washington Examiner
If you like the idea of taxing the exercising of First Amendment rights, well, Massachusetts Sen. Elizabeth Warren now has a plan for that. Warren on Wednesday unveiled a plan she claimed would end excessive lobbying by imposing a tax on companies' lobbying expenditures. The way the tax would work is that "companies that spend between $500,000 and $1 million per year on lobbying, calculated on a quarterly basis, will pay a 35% tax on those expenditures. For every dollar above $1 million spent on lobbying, the rate will increase to 60% – and for every dollar above $5 million, it will increase to 75%."
The problem with the proposal is that it runs smack up against the First Amendment, which states that, "Congress shall make no law ... abridging ... the right of the people ... to petition the Government for a redress of grievances." Given that businesses have the constitutional right to lobby, Congress cannot pass a law explicitly aimed at curbing their ability to exercise that right by way of a punitive tax.

Nancy Pelosi's Drug Pricing Is Make-Believe Medicine
Via Washington Examiner
Playing make-believe at home with children is perfectly fine. But Speaker of the House Nancy Pelosi is playing a game of make-believe in Congress, and the California Democrat is playing a game of life and death. Pelosi is pretending that her speaker’s gavel is a magic wand that can magically change reality. Someone needs to remind Pelosi that her gavel isn’t magic before American consumers suffer the consequences.
For instance, she includes what is ostensibly a 95% tax on companies for not playing her game of make-believe. The bill forces pharmaceutical companies to accept government price controls on a large swath of common medicines. If the companies do not go along with Pelosi’s game, then they would be forced to pay retroactive taxes on those drugs. This is where the up to 95% tax comes into play.

Democrats Are Setting Bad Precedent With Impeachment Hearings
By FreedomWorks VP of Legislative Affairs Jason Pye & Bob Barr
Via Morning Consult
Well, after months of back-and-forth, House Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-Calif.) has finally caved to the radical base of the Democrat Party and authorized a formal Inquiry of Impeachment. Or, maybe not. It was less than one month ago that the House Judiciary Committee actually did approve a resolution, strictly along party lines, that began what some Democrats claim is an “impeachment investigation” and others call an “impeachment inquiry.”
Pelosi recently seemed to agree with both assessments in launching what might best be viewed as a “faux impeachment” process – verbally labeling it an “inquiry” but without a House resolution formally doing so on the record. During an interview last month, Committee Chairman Jerry Nadler (D-N.Y.) said that the investigation his committee is conducting “is not necessarily called an impeachment inquiry. That’s a made-up term without legal significance. It is, however, what we are doing.” Clear as mud.

America, as well as many other places throughout the world, has witnessed mass protests, claiming catastrophic disasters if fossil fuels are not eliminated. However, only a very small percentage of protesters know the methods and science upon which they are protesting. This is dangerous to our society.
Foreseeing the potential for horrific political decisions based on inadequate science and mob rule, five hundred scientists and professionals in climate related fields have sent a “European Climate Declaration” to the Secretary-General of the United Nations, which strongly states, “There is no climate emergency. Therefore, there is no cause for panic and alarm. We strongly oppose the harmful and unrealistic net-zero CO2 policy proposed for 2050.”

Why John Tory and Pinball Clemons are talking up this Jane and Finch summer camp
For 11-year-old Mackenzie Samuels, the youth program he is attending in Toronto’s Jane and Finch neighbourhood is greater than only a summer camp. For him, the Youth Affiliation for Lecturers, Athletics and Character Schooling (YAAACE) is an opportunity to put together for and excel at college this coming fall. “I like coming her as a result of often once I get dwelling I used play video video games, and at camp I can meet new folks,” he advised CBC Toronto Friday. MacKenzie lately moved neighbourhood and enrolled within the seven-week program, which runs out of C.W. Jeffreys Collegiate Institute and prices individuals $150. It is designed to supply out-of-school educational steering and athletic coaching for at-risk youngsters from under-resourced neighbourhoods. “We be taught math, science, literacy and numeracy,” mentioned pupil Darren Boyd, a pal of MacKenzie. “They assist us for after we return to highschool … If we’re in bother or one thing, [they] assist us out.” College students Darren Boyd, left, and Mackenzie Samuels pictured within the gaming room on the final day of the summer camp. (Martin Trainor/CBC)MacKenzie and Darren are simply two of greater than 450 college students from junior kindergarten up to Grade 8, who took half in this system this summer. College students and school have been joined by Toronto Mayor John Tory, former Toronto Argonaut star operating again and head coach Michael “Pinball” Clemons, and basketball star and alumnus Justin Jackson to rejoice their final day Friday. “That is greater than motivational; this is the way you develop younger folks,” mentioned Clemons, whose basis is a monetary backer of this system. “They will assume, they’ll dream to be extra and do extra.” ‘That is an outlet for them’ Clemons recommended this system for the star athletes it is produced, reminiscent of Jackson, who was drafted by the NBA’s Orlando Magic this 12 months. However he mentioned the what makes this system so vital is that it is grounded in schooling together with its focus of sport. Former Argos star and sports activities govt Michael ‘Pinball’ Clemons, left, is an enormous booster of this system, and commends trainer and founder Devon Jones for his work in the neighborhood. (Martin Trainor/CBC) “We’d like to have the ability to incorporate schooling all 12 months lengthy,” Clemons mentioned. And that is precisely what YAAACE. does — in the course of the 12 months, college students can enrol in a weekend program that permits them to proceed sports activities coaching and get assist with their homework. However Clemons says it was trainer and founder Devon Jones who impressed him to get concerned. “His stage of dedication was the very first thing that basically jazzed me,” he mentioned. Jackson additionally recommended Jones for his dedication and engagement, and says YAAACE is the explanation he achieved his dream profession. YAAACE alumnus and basketball stat Justin Jackson remembers ‘simply being younger, taking part in basketball, making an attempt to remain out of bother for the summer.’ (Martin Trainor/CBC)“There’s a whole lot of children that undergo some loopy issues that you simply would not even think about at such a younger age, and this is an outlet for them,” Jackson mentioned. “That is what it was for me.” Jackson mentioned he steadily bought in bother with different children and lecturers as a youth, and Y.A.A.A.C.E helped him discover a much-needed outlet. He began attending this system when it began in 2007. “They launched me to basketball as an outlet to launch all that unfavourable vitality I had,” Jackson mentioned. ‘We have got to increase these packages,’ Tory says However Jones does not take credit score for this system’s success. It is an eclectic workforce of people who make this work,” he mentioned. Jones says he hopes to in the future create a four-hour after-school program in the course of the college 12 months, versus simply the weekend program. This could possibly be potential given the optimistic suggestions Tory says he has acquired from the federal authorities concerning funding for packages like this one. Mayor John Tory spent Friday afternoon touring the totally different lecture rooms of the summer program. (MArtin Trainor/CBC)“We have got to increase these packages, Tory mentioned. “We’ve got to have extra of them and extra communication between them, and we now have to take the very best of them and replicate them.” With recordsdata from Taylor Simmons https://www.cbc.ca/news/canada/toronto/clemons-tory-jackson-summer-camp-1.4790168?cmp=rss https://www.news9ontime.com/why-john-tory-and-pinball-clemons-are-talking-up-this-jane-and-finch-summer-camp/

National CSR Executive to Lead Global Youth Federation
The World Federation of Youth Clubs (WFYC) announced last week that its Board of Directors has named Mark Shamley as Executive Vice President and Chief Operating Officer. He will start in this critical role effective immediately and will be based in Orlando, Florida. WFYC is the international youth development organization, recently spun-off from Boys & Girls Clubs of America, representing 55 independent Club affiliates located in 29 countries and currently serving over 300,000 young people globally.
Shamley’s focus will be on the operational oversight of WFYC, reporting to the organization’s President, Glenn Permuy. He is directly responsible for financial management, affiliate-relations, programs and optimizing both back-end and front-end technology systems. In addition, he is responsible for executing the strategic planning and expansion initiatives which will drive the value and global impact of WFYC.
“Mark is an experienced visionary leader with extensive proven success in both the private and non-profit sectors where he led the Association of Corporate Citizenship Professionals (ACCP), the sole professional association for corporate social responsibility, as its President and CEO for 12 years. He is a strategic thinker and skilled planner -- always willing to roll-up his sleeves to get things done,” said Rick Goings, Chairman and Co-Founder of the World Federation of Youth Clubs. “I’ve known and worked with Mark for more than two decades. He’s passionate about improving the lives of young people, and one of the most resourceful business leaders I’ve had the pleasure to work alongside.”
Mr. Permuy said, “We’re thrilled to add Mark to our team during these early stages of the organization.” Permuy, who has more than 30-years of experience in youth development, continued, “What excites us most about landing a skilled business executive like Mark is his understanding around shaping and aligning WFYC’s strategic priorities to a global operational structure as we aim to support an ever-expanding network of affiliate Club organizations.”
Shamley comes to the World Federation of Youth Clubs from Tupperware Brands where he was Vice President of Sustainability & Global Social Impact. Prior to that, he led the Association of Corporate Citizenship Professionals (ACCP) for 12 years as its President and CEO, growing membership to more than 190 corporations and reaching thousands of CSR executives, with aggregate annual contributions exceeding $5 billion in financial and in-kind support to causes around the world. During his tenure at ACCP, Shamley launched a series of new professional development programs, retooled training initiatives, expanded ACCP’s value proposition that led to a 90 percent retention rate, and grew annual membership revenue by more than 300 percent.
Mark recently served as board Chair for Wise Giving Alliance, an organization that helps donors make informed giving decisions and promotes high standards of conduct among charities that solicit contributions from the public. As a nationally recognized thought-leader, he recently agreed to rejoin the board of BoardSource, which promotes excellence in governance and leadership across a wide and diverse independent sector.
“What many do not realize is that Mark has had an equally impressive career in youth development” said Goings. “Early in his career at Boys & Girls Clubs of America, he was a member of the strategic partnerships team that forged successful alliances with global brands such as Coca-Cola, Major League Baseball and Best Buy.” Goings continued, “Fast-forward to his tenure as Executive Director of the Orlando Magic Youth Fund and ongoing volunteer work as a mentor, Mark remains a steadfast advocate for investing in young people through meaningful transformative experiences.”
Mark resides in Orlando, Florida with his three adult children, Marc, Martina and Johnna.

The Orlando Magic Youth Fund, a McCormick Foundation Fund, Makes a Difference in the Community through
$1 Million Donation to Local Nonprofits
By John Denton,OrlandoMagic.com
On February 5, representatives from 21 nonprofit community organizations in Central Florida were named to the Orlando Magic Youth Fund (OMYF) All-Star Team, receiving grants totaling $1 million from the OMYF, a McCormick Foundation Fund (OMYF-MFF). Photo taken by Gary Bassing.

ORLANDO – With a toothy smile splashed across his face and both fists already pumping, Dr. John Gyllin let out a euphoric “Woo Hoo!!!” on Thursday upon hearing the good fortune that the Orlando Magic Youth Fund, a McCormick Foundation Fund (OMYF-MFF), were bestowing on the Foundation for Seminole State College.
The moment was especially emotional for Dr. Gyllin because he knew full well how many lives could be changed by the $50,000 grant that the Orlando Magic Youth Fund awarded to Seminole State. The money will be used for the “Molding Another Generation in College Program Fund” so that many first-generation college students have the support services needed to be successful in trying to better their lives.
“This financial support from the Magic helps so many first-generational students who otherwise may not have the financial resources to go to school, but also the support needed to be successful and get into that job that they want,” said Dr. Gyllin, the executive director for the Foundation for Seminole State College. “That’s what makes today so important. Without this funding from the Magic and these resources, lots and lots of students wouldn’t have the support to make it through college. The Magic see the impact that this has and we’re so happy to partner with them on this venture.”
Dr. Gyllin’s emotion was shared by 21 Central Florida organizations that received $1 million in grants on Thursday from the Orlando Magic Youth Fund, a McCormick Foundation Fund. In a ceremony held at the Dr. Phillips Center for the Performing Arts, the OMYF-MFF All-Star team was announced much like the NBA Draft with each nonprofit organization being recognized and presented with an OMYF-MFF jersey or specialty basketball. Representatives were greeted by Orlando Magic Chairman Dan DeVos, Magic CEO Alex Martins, Magic Vice President of Philanthropy and Multicultural Insights and OMYF President Linda Landman Gonzalez and the OMYF team.
“Our mission is to be World Champions on and off the court delivering legendary moments every step of the way. And today truly is a legendary day,” Martins said. “This truly is my favorite day of the year because we know that we are making a significant impact in Central Florida with the funds that we distribute to these very worthy organizations.”
In the past five years, OMYF-MFF has granted nearly $5 million to various organizations throughout Central Florida. In the past 25 years, more than $19.8 million has been distributed to local nonprofit community organizations through the Orlando Magic Youth Foundation and the Orlando Magic Youth Fund, a McCormick Foundation Fund (OMYF-MFF) since 1994 to some 500 nonprofit organizations – funding that has impacted more than 2 million children and people in need. That philosophy of giving falls in line with the vision of legendary owner Rich DeVos, who has stated through the years that it was always his hope to use the Magic as a vehicle to assist others and make a difference in the community.
“One of fundamentals of my parents and my family is us giving back with your time, treasure or whatever you have,” Magic Chairman Dan DeVos said. “Everybody needs to give a little bit back because we all benefit so much from this community. This is a very exciting time for us. The excitement of the individuals here is real because they all know the difference this makes on the community and their organizations.”
The $1 million in funds given to the Central Florida nonprofit organizations is raised by the Orlando Magic Youth Foundation, and the match provided by the Robert R. McCormick Foundation. After an extensive five-phase process, which began in April of 2014, the beneficiaries were recommended by the OMYF Board and then approved by the McCormick Foundation’s Board of Directors.
The 2015 OMYF-MFF grant recipients are: Aspire Health Partners – Zebra Coalition, Apopka Family Learning Center, BETA Center, Boys & Girls Clubs of Central Florida, Children’s Home Society of Florida, City Year Orlando, Coalition for the Homeless of Central Florida, Elevate Orlando, Florida Hospital for Children, Foundation for Orange County Public Schools, Foundation for Seminole County Public Schools, Foundation for Seminole State College of Florida, Harbor House of Central Florida, Hope Community Center, Jewish Family Services of Greater Orlando, Junior Achievement of Central Florida, Orlando Shakespeare Theater, Osceola County Council on Aging, The Howard Phillips Center for Children & Families and the University of Central Florida Foundation, Valencia College Foundation.
Scott Bowman, the board chairman for the Zebra Coalition of the Aspire Health Partners, said the Magic’s commitment to the community shows that they are far more than simply a basketball team. They care about the people in Central Florida and are serious about making it a better place to live, Bowman said.
“The Magic have always been one of the top organizations in the entire community because they really do help so many people on and off the court,” Bowman said. “They help so many organizations who make a difference here. And at the end of the day, the Magic improve the quality of life in this community and that’s what it’s really all about for them.”
Osceola Council on Aging CEO Beverly Hougland had tears in her eyes and seemed to get emotional when it was announced on Thursday that her organization would be receiving $100,000 for its “Building Strong Families” program. It provides a comprehensive menu of emergency and preventative services to address families in crisis. Some of the much-needed assistance includes case management, rent and utilities aid, food, childcare referrals, employment training, education and public health benefits.
Hougland shudders to think where her organization – and more importantly those citizens most in need – would be without the generous help of the Orlando Magic Youth Fund (OMYF-MFF).
“This is a very emotional moment for me because you know what you are going to do with the money and you can almost see the people in need who you are going to help,” Hougland said. “Without this funding, it would really hurt a lot of people, so I do get really emotional about it.
“We’re bombarded by need from everything such as healthcare, to housing, to helping to build strong families,” Hougland continued. “We have a holistic approach to helping people be independent and self-sufficient. So we know what this money does for a lot of people who really need it. The Magic are fabulous and they really show us every day that they are a part of this community. That means a lot to all of us who live and work here.”
