Whatâs your favourite sims death?
Hmmm, drowning is classic but I was so shocked when the meteorite killed my sims in ts2, so letâs go with that one.
Alpha CC or Maxis Match?
Gotta go with MM; I tried Alpha back in the day but it just looks off in my game.
Do you cheat when your sims gain weight?
Not usually. I did have a pear shaped sim back in gen 3 of the insectas I fixed, but most of my sims keep their weight.
Do you use move objects?
Always.
Favorite mod?
I like SoL, but Iâm looking into the other game enhancing mods...

I donât MAKE too many sims (I steal them all from the neighborhoods) but Ant was my favorite for a loooong time. Theo is my favorite currently :) Theyâre both entertaining to âplayâ the game with lmao

Yeah but sheâs been sitting for years in her sad house in Windenberg. I donât play simself stuff, but sometimes Iâll dress her up for a simblr challenge.

Cheerful, Geek, Goofball. Iâm very basic.

I donât really have one...uhhhh, black!

I always use the city living hairs. Love the one ponytail with the braid on the side. I also love the Island Living hairs.
Favorite life stage?
I like my moody teenagers the best. The phases can be irritating but entertaining if I integrate it into the story.
Are you a builder or are you in it for the gameplay?
Gameplay but I actually really like customizing lots. Iâll download a lot or redo an existing one.

Nah, I honestly donât have time :(
Do you have any simblr friends/a sim squad?
I have some pretty awesome mutuals. Iâm too MIA to be a part of a squad. Work, relationships, and life get in the way of playing sims lol. Iâve tried to join a general discord but Iâm awful at using it.
Whatâs your favorite game?
Currently, Disco Elysium. Usually, Stardew Valley/Harvest Moon or whatever the current Zelda game is. (Actually Iâm playing Minish Cap rn!)

No T_T I might have in the past. I REMEMBER DISTINCTLY that I had the Sims 1 ONLINE but my mom and I didnât understand how to set it up so she gave it away.

No, that sounds terrifying. I barely post on tumblr LOL
How has your âsim styleâ changed throughout your years of playing?
Hmmm good question. I think itâs less âbasic NPCâ (base game??) and a little leaning towards my own lil funky style. When I first replayed sims 4 again in 2020, I downloaded all the basic CC that was trendy (and kinda outdated). In 2022, I moved my save to a new PC and started over, so that helped.

I do not know. I do not use Origin or any EA app for socializing/sharing

I used to have photoshop T_T (RIP) and used PSD and actions and EVERYTHING LOOKED SO GOOD. I lost access and I canât bring myself to pay monthly rn. I miss it though, I hate the way my screenshots look now.
What expansion/game/stuff pack do you want next?
Iâd honestly like packs to be refreshed. Iâm not one to ask for new stuff...I think thereâs enough stuff. We need things to work properly LOL

City Living has gotten the most focus from me. Itâs SO much fun to go thrifting, go to festivals, and I love apartments. Iâm sure Iâll love Island Living but I havenât gottten to explore it yet.

Hello Simmers!
Itâs been quite the year for The Sims 4! We blew past the gameâs 5th anniversary with no signs of slowing down. One of the communityâs most highly requested expansion packs just launched recently, and we hope youâre all enjoying getting educated in Discover University. In case you havenât heard, weâve also launched another community Stuff Pack project, where your collective votes will decide the path of yet another pack coming to The Sims 4. And of course, The Simsâ franchise 20th anniversary is just over the horizon, which weâre looking forward to celebrating with you.
Todayâs update has been influenced by you as well... We set aside time to specifically address issues that youâve let us know are important to your in-game experience, and we hope the long list of fixes and improvements youâll find below will lead to many hours of fun playing The Sims 4. In addition, weâve squeezed in a few un-planned extras we hope youâll enjoy. Not only have we added some new music tracks to the game, but weâve also converted a number of hairstyles to now also be available for children and toddlers. While the adult versions of these styles will remain exclusive to whichever pack they originally came from, we hope youâll all enjoy these additional options for your Simâs little ones.
While Maxis will soon be taking a short break to enjoy the holidays (merry Winterfest, and a Happy New Year!), weâll be back for another packed year for The Sims 4 in 2020. See you then!

The Sims 4
Fixed an issue where macOS Simmers could crash when accessing The Gallery.
Fixed an issue where Nice or High Quality harvestables would disappear from Simsâ inventories after Travel or Save/Load.
Fixed an issue where Freelancer Career tasks would not complete after Sims would Travel.
Sims that were seated at a 6 seat round table can now Clean up the dishes.
Child Sims will be now able to enjoy Quick Meals again!
Fixed an issue where Sims didnât write a genre book when âWrite Genre Bookâ was selected.
Multiple duplicate interactions should no longer appear in pie menus when you have certain objects in your inventory.
The Jet Set Luxury Bath (bathtubJetsGEN_01) was listed as being Unbreakable when that wasn't true.
Speaking of Unbreakable, we fixed an issue with Hot Tubs and Stereos where unbreakable upgrades would not work if these objects were in use when upgrading them.
Fixed an issue in which some Sims could stand on, or walk through solid objects.
Adding a Sim to an existing household via the Create a Sim Stories feature will no longer subtract Simoleons from the household.
You can now extinguish a fire, even if the fire is within another object.
Fixed an issue that would cause Error code 510:5bd7fa0b to occur when attempting to save.
Sims can now Scrap the unfinished paintings of visiting Sims.
Light intensity will no longer reset when setting Auto Lights options.
Fixed an issue which made the item Tiny Globe & Sycee of the Prosperous Moon appear twice in Build Mode.
Half Walls toppers can now be applied to half walls on all levels of your lot.
Fixed an issue that caused Lots downloaded from The Gallery to be placed backwards and not being able to rotate them to an appropriate view.
Households downloaded from The Gallery should now have their starting funds set to the correct amount, and not just the base 20,000 Simoleons.
Child Sims will no longer receive Whims related to workouts.
Fixed an issue that did not allow Nordic keyboards for macOS to use the Size Down Cheat.
Fixed an issue where Error code 102:70c7f9a6 would occur when loading into Lots after loading a saved game.
Walls no longer will disappear when Taking a Photo in a Basement level room that does not have a staircase.
Bookshelves will no longer have the option to purchase University books if you do not own Discover University.
Sims will no longer flicker on and off the landing pad, when in the Rocket Ship using the WooHoo or Try for Baby interactions.
Sims in the Supreme Villain career working on the mischief interaction task can now use the Slablet to Troll teh Forums to complete the task.
Addressed some UI issues in Create a Sim that occurred after modifying the scaling option in the Accessibility options.
Lots and rooms with modded paintings will now be flagged as Custom Content when uploading to The Gallery
Small rugs can no longer be placed over the cutouts created by stairs.
Using Ctrl + U to reset your UI Scaling while you have the UI Scaling window open, will now properly reset the scale bar.
Caterer Sims will now be able to make a Cake and complete their Party event goals.
We attempted to track down the lost harvestables that are currently lost, but found they were lost and unfindable. Itâs findings like this that we find we are at a loss of words for, however any future loss should not be found.
Sadly, all the children who had thought they had found the magic loophole, stay seated at the table, are no longerâŠ
...right⊠like any kid ever stays seated at the table.
Who doesnât enjoy a good bowl of cereal?
Some example interactions that were reported: âPlay Fetchâ, âGive Potionâ, âBlackmailâ, âScan Hereâ. The LastException related to this issue should also be fixed.
It's now truly Unbreakable!
David was also supposed to be Unbreakable⊠but⊠spoilers⊠he broke.
Obviously there was an issue with the hot tub⊠water is the weakness.
Specifically Baby Bassinets⊠babies were becoming quite paranoid they werenât actually Sims...
This could occur if a large object caught fire. You would have to wait until the fire spread outside the bounds of the large object in order to extinguish it.
âYour house is on fire?!â

Topper⊠itâs a technical term that means the piece that goes on top of a half wall.

Get To Work
Aliens should now appear as expected in the Photo thumbnails, and no longer display their disguised forms when they are not in disguise.
Aliens will now display accurate selected options for Eyebrows and Beards in Create A Sim.
Fixed an issue where Scientist Sims would record their findings in Notebooks twice.
We addressed an issue that could prevent Sims from not being able to ring up customers who attempt to purchase from the warming rack.
Some boots, along with the Sims feet, were disappearing when the camera was zoomed all the way out. This should no longer occur.
The "Refer for Surgical Treatment" interaction is now available on surgery tables that have had their color altered with the bb.enablefreebuild cheat.
There are better ways to take tidy and efficient notes.
City Living
There were a number of confusing situations that arose as a result of Invites your Sims would receive. In some cases these would appear as two invites for the same event, one that was the âhey, I just wanted you to knowâ invite, and the other would be the real invite. They should behave more accordingly to expectations.

Hello Simmers!
Itâs been quite the year for The Sims 4! We blew past the gameâs 5th anniversary with no signs of slowing down. One of the communityâs most highly requested expansion packs just launched recently, and we hope youâre all enjoying getting educated in Discover University. In case you havenât heard, weâve also launched another community Stuff Pack project, where your collective votes will decide the path of yet another pack coming to The Sims 4. And of course, The Simsâ franchise 20th anniversary is just over the horizon, which weâre looking forward to celebrating with you.
Todayâs update has been influenced by you as well⊠We set aside time to specifically address issues that youâve let us know are important to your in-game experience, and we hope the long list of fixes and improvements youâll find below will lead to many hours of fun playing The Sims 4. In addition, weâve squeezed in a few un-planned extras we hope youâll enjoy. Not only have we added some new music tracks to the game, but weâve also converted a number of hairstyles to now also be available for children and toddlers. While the adult versions of these styles will remain exclusive to whichever pack they originally came from, we hope youâll all enjoy these additional options for your Simâs little ones.
While Maxis will soon be taking a short break to enjoy the holidays (merry Winterfest, and a Happy New Year!), weâll be back for another packed year for The Sims 4 in 2020. See you then!

Fixed an issue where macOS Simmers could crash when accessing The Gallery.
Fixed an issue where Nice or High Quality harvestables would disappear from Simsâ inventories after Travel or Save/Load.
Fixed an issue where Freelancer Career tasks would not complete after Sims would Travel.
Sims that were seated at a 6 seat round table can now Clean up the dishes.
Child Sims will be now able to enjoy Quick Meals again!
Fixed an issue where Sims didnât write a genre book when âWrite Genre Bookâ was selected.
Multiple duplicate interactions should no longer appear in pie menus when you have certain objects in your inventory.
The Jet Set Luxury Bath (bathtubJetsGEN_01) was listed as being Unbreakable when that wasnât true.
Speaking of Unbreakable, we fixed an issue with Hot Tubs and Stereos where unbreakable upgrades would not work if these objects were in use when upgrading them.
Fixed an issue in which some Sims could stand on, or walk through solid objects.
Adding a Sim to an existing household via the Create a Sim Stories feature will no longer subtract Simoleons from the household.
You can now extinguish a fire, even if the fire is within another object.
Fixed an issue that would cause Error code 510:5bd7fa0b to occur when attempting to save.
Sims can now Scrap the unfinished paintings of visiting Sims.
Light intensity will no longer reset when setting Auto Lights options.
Fixed an issue which made the item Tiny Globe & Sycee of the Prosperous Moon appear twice in Build Mode.
Half Walls toppers can now be applied to half walls on all levels of your lot.
Fixed an issue that caused Lots downloaded from The Gallery to be placed backwards and not being able to rotate them to an appropriate view.
Households downloaded from The Gallery should now have their starting funds set to the correct amount, and not just the base 20,000 Simoleons.
Child Sims will no longer receive Whims related to workouts.
Fixed an issue that did not allow Nordic keyboards for macOS to use the Size Down Cheat.
Fixed an issue where Error code 102:70c7f9a6 would occur when loading into Lots after loading a saved game.
Walls no longer will disappear when Taking a Photo in a Basement level room that does not have a staircase.
Bookshelves will no longer have the option to purchase University books if you do not own Discover University.

Sims in the Supreme Villain career working on the mischief interaction task can now use the Slablet to Troll teh Forums to complete the task.
Addressed some UI issues in Create a Sim that occurred after modifying the scaling option in the Accessibility options.
Lots and rooms with modded paintings will now be flagged as Custom Content when uploading to The Gallery
Small rugs can no longer be placed over the cutouts created by stairs.
Using Ctrl + U to reset your UI Scaling while you have the UI Scaling window open, will now properly reset the scale bar.
Caterer Sims will now be able to make a Cake and complete their Party event goals.
We attempted to track down the lost harvestables that are currently lost, but found they were lost and unfindable. Itâs findings like this that we find we are at a loss of words for, however any future loss should not be found.
Sadly, all the children who had thought they had found the magic loophole, stay seated at the table, are no longerâŠ
âŠright⊠like any kid ever stays seated at the table.
Who doesnât enjoy a good bowl of cereal?
Some example interactions that were reported: âPlay Fetchâ, âGive Potionâ, âBlackmailâ, âScan Hereâ. The LastException related to this issue should also be fixed.

Obviously there was an issue with the hot tub⊠water is the weakness.

This could occur if a large object caught fire. You would have to wait until the fire spread outside the bounds of the large object in order to extinguish it.

Aliens should now appear as expected in the Photo thumbnails, and no longer display their disguised forms when they are not in disguise.

We addressed an issue that could prevent Sims from not being able to ring up customers who attempt to purchase from the warming rack.
Some boots, along with the Sims feet, were disappearing when the camera was zoomed all the way out. This should no longer occur.
The âRefer for Surgical Treatmentâ interaction is now available on surgery tables that have had their color altered with the bb.enablefreebuild cheat.

There were a number of confusing situations that arose as a result of Invites your Sims would receive. In some cases these would appear as two invites for the same event, one that was the âhey, I just wanted you to knowâ invite, and the other would be the real invite. They should behave more accordingly to expectations.

A Position of Privilege
(Long and rambling, sorry)
I donât mention it much, but I love video games. Itâs a hobby that started with a Playstation and playing Spyro the Dragon after kindergarten. Over the years, my game choices have evolved and grown with me. As my game choices have evolved, so to has the representation in games.
When I was a kid, my dad had one game that I just loved watching. We called it Lady Game, because it was the only game we had that featured a âladyâ as a protagonist. I was much older when I learned that it was actually called Tomb Raider.
As I started playing more and more, I found that even in games where you could slightly customize your character, you could only sometimes play as a girl. I just kind of shrugged it off at the time, mildly annoyed but too young to really say why it annoyed me. I came up with a boy version of my very feminine name and used that, instead.
And then I got older. And video games...got better? at representing girls. And it was great! Except that, to this day, I still pick the boy character to play before I even think to look for a girl. Pokémon? Play the boy character on your main game. Girls are for Nuzlockes or type challenges.
(Iâm sure thereâs a reason for that, but Iâm not going to get into it right now. Thatâs a reflection for another time.)
But this isnât about all video games. This is about one game in particular. This is about The Sims 4.
If you asked my friends, generally, my style of game is a...life simulator, I guess? Harvest Moon, Animal Crossing, Stardew Valley...those kinds of games are what I tend to be drawn to. So when I was scrolling through Facebook and saw that they were having a huge sale on The Sims 4, I thought why not, and paid like six bucks for it.
If you have ever played the Sims, you know that the base game is good, but a little boring. You need the packs to really have stuff to do. Or, if you are on PC, there is a wonderful community of modders that you can lean on. I knew that going in. So, I started a new game, made a sim, and then went to find mods that would make the game more interesting.
I kept finding things about one mod in particular. Miraâs Melanin Pack. And I thought, huh, okay, and downloaded it. I didnât really see the point in it- the Sims 4 has skin tones for darker sims. But I also knew that the skin tone options were really limited, so I grabbed it anyway.
This might be the time to say that the sim I created originally was a white guy. (Again, with creating male characters over female ones.) And this guy had adopted three kids, because I could not figure out how romance worked and I wanted kids, okay? The oldest two kids (Yasmin and Austen) are black. I never changed much about them, except their clothes. At the time that I downloaded Miraâs Melanin Pack, Yasmin was a teenager and Austen was a child.
I didnât really intend on changing much about them. But then Austen aged into a teenager and was literally shaped like a Dorito (oh, the dangers of randomly generated sims) and I had to do something. That was when I noticed all of the skin tone options. And, out of curiosity, I clicked on one.
I had never seen the gameâs base skin tones compared to Miraâs. The difference was literally amazing. The gameâs skin tones suddenly looked grey and lifeless, while Miraâs looked rich, with different under tones, and full of life. So I changed their skin tones.
I think thatâs when it hit me. The Sims 4 is a game about representing life. And it fails spectacularly at that when it comes to darker skin tones. I thought back to Lady Game, and how excited I was as a kid to see someone who looked like me doing all of this cool stuff and then I thought about kids-teenagers-adults trying to make a character that looked like them in a game that was about making people that looked like you and being utterly incapable of it.
And the I thought about why I hadnât noticed that, before it was literally shoved in my face with a side by side comparison. Because I can make myself, in just about every video game there is. Today, there is almost always an option for a white girl with brown hair. And I realized exactly what a privilege that was.
Somewhere along the line, I forgot how annoying it is, to only be able to play characters that didnât feel like you, when the story was all about you and what you would do in that situation. I forgot how exciting it was, to find someone in media and say, âAh, they look like me!â
Representation matters. Everyone should be able to see someone who looks like them doing something cool or being the hero or falling in love or getting their happily ever after. I come from a Position of Privilege, because I AM represented. Itâs time that I acknowledge that.
This is me, acknowledging a privilege that I never really gave a second thought about.
This is me, advocating for the representation of ALL people. Black, brown, disabled, LGBT...you should be able to see yourself in media, and I am so sorry that you canât in some instances.
I donât expect a lot from this. I certainly donât expect for the Sims 4 team to be like, hey, random white girl, youâre right, we should have more skin tones, letâs fix that. (And honestly, if that IS what happens, fuck you because black and POC creators and players have been saying this for AGES, and you should have listened to them well before you listened to me.).
I just wanted to out my thoughts into words, I guess. I donât expect this to change anyoneâs mind, but if it calls one person to see things in a different light, then hey, thatâs pretty cool.

If you happen to feel like doing some game recommendations, can you point me to some with engaging crafting loops? Terraria is my most played game because I free-fell (free-falled?) into that treadmill: fetch the materials to make the tools to collect other materials to make the tools to craft other tools, and so on and so on. Action, RPG, procedural levels or not, my tastes are broad.
Hmm.
In terms of pure crafting mechanics, far and away the best set of games for it - in fact, itâs the one that originated most of the crafting mechanics that most other games are imitating - are the Ateier series. However, I canât in good conscience recommend any of the instalments that are actually available for PC; the seriesâ character designs took an unfortunate turn into egregious lolicon pandering in the PS3/PS4 iterations, and those are the only ones that have been ported.
If you wanted to get into it, Iâd suggest picking up a used PS2 and seeing if you can score copies of Atelier Iris or Mana Khemia (or their various sequels; there are three games in the Iris sub-series, and two in the MK sub-series). Atelier Annie, too, if you have a 3DS kicking around (itâs also part of a multi-game sub-series, but itâs the only one of the set thatâs been localised).
Moving on to stuff thatâs a. available for the PC, and b. actually recommendable, then. Iâll omit the obvious candidates like Minecraft and Starbound under the assumption that if youâre a Terraria fan, youâve already heard of them!
Donât Starve - Iâm not usually a fan of the survival horror genre, but this one appeals to me through sheer whimsy. Itâs popular enough that I suspect youâve probably heard of it, so consider this more of a confirmation that yes, itâs worth checking out if you havenât already.
Recettear: An Item Shopâs Tale - Basically an indie Atelier clone, albeit one that manages to avoid taking its inspirationâs unfortunate turn, in spite of the age of its protagonist. You know that one shopkeeper in a typical JRPG who inexplicably always has the exact endgame gear you need? You play as that shopkeeper.
Stardew Valley - Sort of a JRPG-meets-farming-sim deal. If youâre familiar with the Harvest Moon/Story of Seasons games, this is basically the same idea. (Stay away from anything actually called Harvest Moon on PC, though; the original developer lost the rights to the name in 2014, and the games that have been ported to PC under the Harvest Moon banner are unrelated to the classic series.)
Yonder: The Cloud Catcher Chronicles - A bit of Legend of Zelda style exploration, a bit of Stardew Valley style farming sim, and a whole lot of open world walking sim, Yonder is an eclectic little game. Very cute aesthetics and absolutely no combat whatsoever, so itâs good for a spot of stress-free gaming.
Also, an off-list rec because it doesnât have a crafting loop, but it does have one of the most creative takes on crafting Iâve yet seen: Emily Shortâs Counterfeit Monkey. Itâs a parser fic, which means pure text, played by typing commands at a prompt; a niche genre these days, but thereâs good reason for it here: gameplay revolves around turning things into other things by deleting letters from their names. Itâs unbelievably comprehensive in what itâll let you get away with, in a way that would be flat-out impossible for a graphical game.

@scatteringmyashes tagged me knowing full well I havenât finished many video games in my life /side eyes/, but here it goes. The following are my top 4 video games that have impacted my life / left big impressions on me / that I think yâall should check out if you can! See below for cute pics and more <3Â Â
1. Kirby and the Amazing MirrorÂ
Yâall, I canât even begin to describe the amount of childhood nostalgia Iâm feeling just from this gif. Arguably the first video game I ever completed, this game for the Game Boy Advance was my constant companion. Cute little ball of a fighter? Check. Dark and mysterious forces that needed stopping? Yes. Ridiculous amounts of different abilities you could choose from? Mmmhmm. Option to call in your colorful cohort of friends and have cute victory dances with them? Check+. Magic mirrors???? Yup. I unfortunately lost this game in a move when my sister misplaced my Game Boy and it was never seen again :( But one of my dreams is to play it again on a Navy blue Game Boy once more <3Â
2. Harvest Moon: Magical Melody
Nostalgia train again, sorry not sorry. Youâre the cute new rancher in a cute small town just trying to get by and... save the Harvest Goddess??? Thatâs right! Like most Harvest Moon/Story of Seasons games youâre balancing farm life, sleep, socializing, romance, and saving the Harvest Goddess with music notes you get through achievements. My longest friend introduced me in 6th grade (thanks Charissa!!!) and even helped be get a game cube to have my own copy! We would help each other plan out our work days and weddings on our respective memory cards for good wholesome fun <3 Very straight (unfortunate for my queer fam), but funnily enough the rival, Jamie, is androgynous most of the time and will âswitch genderâ based on the PC, which only really shows if you marry them. (P.S. Marry Dan the âlearning to improve himself what a cuteyâ Pirate, ilovehim).Â
3. Transistor
I cannot begin to describe how beautiful this game is. Art Deco meets posh cyber dystopia in this world filled with robots out to kill you, a gorgeous singer without a voice taking on a terrorist organization. Did I mention your weapon and narrator are the downloaded conscious of the boyfriend who saved you? Your voice and him get tied up in an assassination plot on you, leading to your wielding of a strange weapon -- the Transistor. I love the voice lines, the plot, the art, THE MUSIC is INCREDIBLE please listen to it as you play, the strategy mixed with time freezing capabilities, and option to mix fighting styles based on... well youâll see. Itâs just a gorgeous game and I fell in love with this couple and their sudden struggle so hard. Hereâs another image to show my love:

4. Dragon Age II
Look, Isabella was like half the gifs that showed up for this game itâs not my fault... I also have a thing for pirates? Maybe itâs the rough, sea breeze tousled, golden ensemble. Dragon Age as a series is just so good. I love fantasy, and RPGs, and playing mages. AND ROMANCE. wow. Though we have differing opinions on the world and its politics, @scatteringmyashes is the one that introduced me to this game and the DA series in consequence. Though I may be terrible at decision based games, I do love this one a lot. Everyone is kind of a disaster (witty NPCS and yourself) and there arenât a lot of solvable problems, but as the Champion of Kirkwall you take the city by storm anyways. If you like dialogue options, shopping, fighting, political intrigue, party banter and quite the diverse / talented fandom definitely play this game. I myself am hoping to one day play origins and inquisition, too! (Who knows, maybe another will ride me into the sunset.)

Wii modding has been around for a little while, actually! While I originally made the patch to be played on Dolphin Emulator, the modded iso can also be played on an actual, physical Wii!
Itâs been ages since Iâve last messed around with modding my Wii, though, so I can only point you to a guide.
The Complete Softmod Guide should help you get everything squared away. Wii softmodding has been largely idiot-proofed (thank god!) but Iâd suggest reading over every step before diving right in.
Youâd also want to look into using a USB Loader for both dumping your Wii Game (i.e. Harvest Moon Animal Parade) to patch on your PC AND for loading the modded game to play on the Wii. I have absolutely NO exprience with this part of Wii modding, so I couldnât answer any questions there.

AntVentor is a puzzle-adventure game with an ant. It's vaguely reminiscent of games like Machinarium. You wander from spot to spot, pick up items, and use them to solve puzzles. The story includes you helping an ant after you destroy its life. The dialog is cheeky and fun. We also enjoyed the above average graphics and simple game play mechanics. It's not going to win game of the year, but it's a perfectly good puzzle game with no freemium elements. It is a bit short, but it's also only $1.99 so we're not complaining too much about that.

Badland Brawl

Badland Brawl is a dueling game from the developers of the popular Badland platformer games. You and an opponent stand off on opposite ends of a bridge. Each player sends creatures to the other side until somebody wins. It's a lot like Hearthstone or Clash Royale, but with simpler mechanics. You can collect, clone, and upgrade your characters, play with friends, and join tribes to play with other people. You can also do one vs one or two vs two matches online. It has some kinks to work out, but we expect this to be a decent sleeper in the dueling game genre.

Chroniric XIX is a text-adventure game with a lot of fun little mechanics. The story includes time loops, revisiting past events, and using your decisiosn to influence the story line. The game sends notifications as it goes so you can play when you want to. There is also a quick mode in case you want to just fly through it without delays. The game includes three story paths, three endings, puzzle elements, 40 achievements, and various other little things. We really like Lifeline as a text series, but this game has a lot more stuff going on than the Lifeline series. It's definitely a must for text game fans.

Dragalia Lost

Dragalia Lost is Nintendo's newest game. It's an action RPG and that's a little unusual for Nintendo. Still, it's a fairly pleasant experience. You get the hack-and-slash mechanics of an action RPG along with a narrative story that is actually decent. Some of the other game features include 60 characters (with a voice cast), an above average soundtrack, and tons of events and story missions to complete. Of course, it uses gacha mechanics like most mobile RPGs and that may help explain its lukewarm reception. Still, it's a Nintendo game so we expect it to rebound over the next month or so. It's a fun game if you don't mind the freemium elements.

Harvest Moon: Light of Hope is a complete mobile port of the original PC game. It has all of the mechanics we love from the Harvest Moon series. You end up shipwrecked in a town on the decline and you must rebuild. The game lets you plant crops, complete requests from villagers, do various events and festivals, and a lot more. You know what you're getting if you've played a Harvest Moon game before. There are some complaints, such as load times and the occasional saving bug. We expect issues like that to be corrected on a $14.99 game. However, the mechanics and game play elements are all rock solid and very enjoyable.

Hooky Crook is a fun little platformer with cats! We're not sure why so many developers like platformers with a cat theme, but it seems to work so we won't judge. This one contains 84 unique levels, easy tap controls, leaderboards, and complete offline support. You basically slingshot a cat from point to point while avoiding obstacles and death floors. You win a level when you reach the end. The game is free to play with some very cheap in-app purchases. It's a decent arcade platformer and it's family friendly. There is enough content to last you a little while as well.

Marenian Tavern Story is a mobile jRPG from Kemco, a developer that is very experienced in this genre. It's a retro JRPG-sim style game and it looks like something you played once on a PlayStation. Players open a tavern after Patty's family goes into massive debt. You train characters, dive into dungeons, and find new recipes for your business. This is a freemium game. However, you can get the $7.99 pro version that comes with a bunch of extra goodies to start the game. Frankly, you don't really need them and we recommend the free version of the game first.

Monster Hunter Stories

Monster Hunter Stories is one of the most unique mobile game releases we've seen. There is a bit of a prologue with MHST: The Adventure Begins (linked at the button). Players can port their save files to the $19.99 Monster Hunter Stories game once they purchase that. We really like that setup and we hope other developers copy it someday. In any case, this is a Monster Hunter game. It features action RPG mechanics, RPG leveling up, and you capture monster much like Pokemon. You can fight monsters against other players online and play the story at your own pace. This might be a candidate for game of the year. We do hope that Capcom improves their backup and restore function, though.

NBA 2K19 is 2K Games' perennial basketball game release. It's a simplified version of the console variant, but there are still some good things going on with this one. You can play actual basketball and the graphics are pretty decent. You can play Story Mode and a My Career mode. It also has a modern and fun soundtrack. The game launched without in-game sounds and we thought that was funny. Additionally, the controls can be a little clunky and it's weird seeing a sports game without an online component. Plus, you have to pay $7.99 for it and then it's a freemium game as well. Still, because developers don't take sports games seriously, this is probably going to be the best basketball game on mobile this year.

Reigns: Game of Thrones is the third game in the popular Reigns franchise. This is a mix between a card game and a puzzle game. The mechanics are super easy. You get presented with a scenario along with two solutions. You swipe left or right on the card Tinder-style to make your selection. Those who make the right selection move on and those who don't die and have to start over. This one also contains playable characters, scenarios, and lore from the Game of Thrones universe. We think its $3.99 price tag is exactly what it should be and players should get some good fun out of this one.

[Flashback Friday] You Should Be Playing: Stardew Valley
I originally played Stardew on my PC, but it has since been ported to the Nintendo Switch. Am I going to play it on my Switch? God no. I canât give any more of my life to this game. Iâve already lost who knows how many hours to the âone more dayâ justification. But apparently others are losing time to this too, because Stardew was the most downloaded Switch game in 2017.
Playing a sim game feels like hibernating. Time vanishes into the game, and you emerge from the experience blinking in the sunlight. I've lost several hours to Stardew Valley this week, and I can't bring myself to regret it.
Your character is fed up with city life, and moves onto a plot of land in Stardew Valley formerly owned by their grandfather. They then rebuild their family farm and carve a niche for themselves amongst the Valley's inhabitants. They milk cows, clear brush, find love, and more.
It's Harvest Moon, Indie Edition. Though I don't necessarily consider that a bad thing.
There's something charming about the guileless inhabitants of the Valley, though they're all a little too pure and toothless for me. There's a reason small towns have frequently been the subject of both romances and horror/mystery novels. It wouldn't take much for me to believe one of the Valley's residents had a literal skeleton in their closet.
They're also entirely too mundane for the setting. The romanceable characters include a novelist, librarian, local doctor, and a couple of teenagers. I'm not sold on the Stardew Valley model of gameplay, but I enjoyed my time playing the game and I do see all its points of appeal. And I am impressed that this game was developed, by and large, by one person. So if you have a lot of time to kill, you could do far worse than to kill it with Stardew Valley.
