Bend, OR (No. 8)
The headwaters of the Deschutes River are at Little Lava Lake, a natural lake in the Cascade Range approximately 26 miles (42 km) northwest of the city of La Pine. The river flows south into Crane Prairie Reservoir, then into Wickiup Reservoir, from where it heads in a northeasterly direction past the resort community of Sunriver and into the city of Bend, about 170 miles (270 km) from the river mouth on the Columbia.
In central Bend, the river enters Mirror Pond, an impoundment behind Newport hydroelectric dam. The pond extends upstream to the Galveston Bridge and is a feature of Drake Park as well as Harmon, Pageant, and Brooks parks. From April through October, diversions to Central Oregon Irrigation District canals reduce the river flow between Bend and Pelton Reregulating Dam, at river mile (RM) 100 (river kilometer (RK) 160).
The river continues north from Bend, and just west of Redmond, Oregon. Here it passes by Eagle Crest Resort and Cline Falls State Scenic Viewpoint. As it heads north through the central Oregon high desert, the river carves a gorge bordered by large basalt cliffs. By the time it reaches Lake Billy Chinook, a reservoir west of Madras, the river is approximately 300 feet (91 m) below the surrounding plateau, the Little Agency Plains and Agency Plains. At Lake Billy Chinook the river is joined by the Crooked and Metolius rivers.
Beyond the dam, the river continues north in a gorge well below the surrounding countryside. It passes through the Warm Springs Indian Reservation, which includes the city of Warm Springs and the Kah-Nee-Ta resort. The river ends at its confluence with the Columbia River, 5 miles (8 km) southwest of Biggs Junction and 204 miles (328 km) from the Columbia's mouth on the Pacific Ocean.

Walk to Division and Back January 10, 2023
I'm going to try to put into words, the feeling I get from here (the pacific northwest) ever since I first came west 31 years ago. It's a feeling of calm wonder, while looking out over our soggy realm on a bright cloudy day; where everything looks wet even when it's dry, and nothing seems too sharp, and everyone seems friendly, ordinary and optimistic in spite of how little sunny weather they endure. Everything feels broken in. It's where I learned to love Joni Mitchell, Traffic and the Grateful Dead without anyone actually pushing this music on me. Everything feels easygoing here and the world is full of moss and coffee.
I doubt that worked. Anyway. Here's photos from my healthy walk through Montavilla and the Jade District.

Found out there's another nonbinary adult at my new school! Was having a conversation with the counselor on how to support one of my students and they mentioned that one of the reasons they approached me for this particular student is they suspected I was in the community, I said I was and what I was but my reasons for not being open about it (I think admin wouldn't mind but im pretty sure it'd be an issue with the community and I'm just not interested in having that fight right now) they agreed and came out to me and we commiserated but agreed that it was important for people like us to be present in districts like this. So that's fun!

I think it’d be really fucking funny if Gravity Falls was sorta like Ashland in that it gets theatre field trips. Or maybe stagecraft field trips, it would be a really good place to get inspiration for sets and being a lumber town might have some good opportunities to learn about building stuff. Or at least there would be more opportunities for stagecraft stuff than acting y’know. But either way Bay Area performing arts kids should get shipped up there every year of high school. Just because I think it’d be funny if one year Dipper and Mabel are going on a school field trip and suddenly they’re in Gravity Falls again but have to try and course correct their classmates from the people they know in the town. But they’re preforming arts kids so there’s no way that would work but it’d be really fucking funny. Maybe Stan heard from the twins that they’re required to see a play and write a play review by end of semester but everyone always puts it off and so has to panic watch one around the time of the trip so he tries to quickly set up a play there before they all go back to Cali. At least one kid stumbles across the bunker and the shapeshifter becomes a thing of [The Scottish Play] levels of superstition.
