The series centers on Paul Teutul Sr. (frequently called Senior), and his son Paul Teutul Jr. (also known as Paulie or simply Junior), who manufacture custom chopper-style motorcycles. Orange County Choppers is in Newburgh, New York. The contrasting work and creative styles of the father-and-son team and their resulting verbal arguments were the series' hallmark until 2008 when an explosive argument led to Paul Jr.'s termination and departure to start a competing chopper company, Paul Jr. Designs. The series originally aired on Discovery Channel beginning in March 2003. In December 2007, the series moved to Discovery's sister channel TLC, starting off with an 18-hour marathon. Its first TLC season premiered in January 2008. Season 6 began in April 2009 but the series was canceled by TLC in February 2010. In July 2010, TLC announced that the Teutuls would return in a new series, American Chopper: Senior vs. Junior. Senior vs. Junior premiered on TLC but was soon moved to Discovery halfway through the first season. Finally saw Grease (1978) today. I know, I know, but I've only been gay for a couple of years, I probably skipped it to watch more Orange County Choppers or something.

As a movie it is good. The cast is great, especially Travolta and Olivia Newton-John, apart or together. Travolta feels like the jock playing theater, which fits Danny exactly. And ONJ was a ray of goddamn sunlight her entire life, and she certainly is here. Together they are just electric. Everyone else is good, even if none of them really get time to do much with what they're given.

As a musical...it is okay. The story is unfocused and the songs feel more like a revue. Danny and Sandy are supposed to be the focus of the story but they just sort of bounce around until getting together at the end. Their relationship doesn't have an arc and no one seems to learn anything, except maybe "if you are a jerk, people won't like you." The rest of the time is padded with odd vignettes about side characters that are fine for what they are, but are just aimless diversions. Which is a shame, because the things that happen to Rizzo and Frenchy are more emotionally compelling than Danny and Sandy being brats off and on.

I faintly remember hearing this movie was a mess to put together and the original musical has a bunch of different versions with songs swapped in and out at different times. It feels like that. The songs are good, but again, like a revue, sprinkled in almost at random. Well choreographed and shot, though. Especially the weird Frankie Avalon surrealist number out of nowhere. That is probably the best part of the movie (aside from the Frankie Valli disco theme song). I'd rate the musical higher if more of the numbers were like this. As in, like BOTH of these songs. Maybe it is just because both are sung by industry veterans, but they have so much more kick than everything else.

This serves mostly as a primary source for what people in the late 70s thought the 50s were like, and that is tuner gangs of 30 year old "teenagers" causing drunken chaos and taking relationships way too seriously while the handful of adults laugh and egg them on. Which isn't accurate or terribly interesting in the context of a story. But I'm sure it was nostalgic as shit for the 40 year olds of 1978, and it is a fun, good movie, so long as you don't attempt to take it as seriously as it seems to hope it is taken.

I don't want to say it is overrated because I understand why people like it. But I also don't know if it will remain a beloved movie musical for much longer. If you aren't a Boomer or Boomer-adjacent, you probably won't be drawn to the nostalgia or style it relies on to sell itself. Because the story and pacing would need a serious overhaul to do justice to the songs. If you aren't into the pretend 50s or 70s movies, there just isn't much here.

Oh and the opening animation is crap. I realize the standards for most Western animation in 1978 were generally lazier and slap-dash, and there is a dated charm to this. But this is the opening of your movie, guys. The song is fire. But look at this stupid shit:

This card is from colonial Williamsburg is very similar to the cart that JC and Mary had they each had one and it had one seat and it was spring loaded and it could go fast without falling out and a lot of these people fell out of the thing love got real hurt so fast and they they did a bump and fall out and get their arm or leg in the wheel I'll get rid of her we'll just fall out or get run over and hit he would stay in it and she would too because it would bounce in the seat it looks kind of odd very kind of surreal humorous cuz we have to try and protect them but they were doing the job and going fast and she says makes a little sick doesn't it and he said yeah and so she started saying I get that so chuckling it's just like discussing again on you little weirdo and they were together and they did it after each ride I guess it looks really weird to them so this is the card and they say who built it and it was a German American and he built it in the United States and designed it here and he did come up with a beer company with a guy it's very strange analogy that's happening and it was and 1775 it was a little early in the year but yeah you need to do groundwork for it that's when he got the coach. And it's really we are halfway through September so October November December and it's next year it's not too far away and we think the tip of Florida will be sunken by then probably quite a ways earlier than that they're at the stashes and Cassius and pulling it out it's a lot of stuff trying about some stuff and we think they have a war over it and they expect the heavy offending people off and it's going to start up anytime now it is outrageous what people say on the pseudo empire side and on the rebel side they're saying you had us use those trucks they suck and those are down there and you were hitting us and making remarks so we're going to take those trucks and use them against you and they're saying it all last night.

But this coach was made and it's similar to this was was made in the USA and it was designed in the USA but after a German car it was very similar but the metal work was different the type of wood was a little different close and the joinery was done in a slightly different manner but it took these are close and that's how it is with the car I think still have to be done right and it is a science and he does a good job he was Vinny and he did the Vincent at American choppers or Orange county and that motorcycle still sells all the others don't his is still selling hey that's incredible really and he makes them it's very nice chopper. And our son likes the chopper so he's encouraged these things are going to be a lot of fun but the way you can tell that the cart is this super car is it's not his first vehicle that our son would be at it would be along the lines of the third and she would have one that's Hera and you can also tell because he's the same guy and it's a German American design and he's the same chairman American it's the same shop no might be she's got preliminary drawings and they're pretty close our son and daughter say and he says it's pretty close this is when you look at it it looks really cool and that's what it's supposed to do so it's supposed to go real good too and it does and we did test it so the design is pretty close and he would have to approve the exterior but some brand new design it's not made up by people who copy stuff and also she looks German but she's done it before with different items now this is going to actually take off and we have some thoughts on the matter it's kind of an adult subject beer and fast cars but he said problems with it his whole life and he wants to fix it another thing is he wants to look like someone and sound like it and behave like it not like a bum it's not accustomed to it it's rubbing in the wrong way and is mad about it being treated like s*** and this guy just rubs it in and does nothing and we think that Tommy f does actually get it to our son and with the cards above general George Washington and that's what he was at the time purchased it and Mary purchased her own so Hera would come and buy it and so Tommy F wants to be there. And we're working on deals for motors and things like that already and this is going to be huge and father and mother of Deutschland are with it and they're going to do it and both sides of course and other gods and goddesses there and this is going to be great. The whole thing was designed by Tommy f and people had input and it was smart fast and works great and yeah it's a car one horse signifies the car as well because it's a cart doesn't mean that it's a motorcycle. Yeah it still means the same thing because when you turn I can't encourage your turning the wheels that are kind of freewheeling but they've got pulled by the horse and they go in the direction the horses going and the cart kind of follows but a two-wheel cart you turn the cart with the horse just like you do with the four wheel but it does make a difference it does sound odd it looks different

Schools in New York on the first day in public schools beginning 2 weeks from Thursday (September 5th, 2024), but was started early on August 12th for the Success Academy charter school chain, whose uniforms feature orange-suited ties.
