Sometimes I really want to read a short summary of what to expect from a game… and thankfully people can also submit their summaries of games they played and help me (and others) find games that cater to their interests!
submitted by @lairofsentinel
what to expect from OPERENCIA: THE STOLEN SUN
Low-key dungeon crawler-like game. Basically it’s a game of solving puzzles and riddles with turn-based combat.
You can customise your main character. You can choose their gender between man and woman, and pick an ethnic-based appearance (black, Middle East, asian, white). Something I loved that this game does and that I always criticise in other RPGs: Their body type of your character also changes depending on their class (mages are less bulky than warriors, for example)
You meet several companions that will be part of your party while exploring the world.Â
There is banter between companions, though the voice acting sometimes is pretty bad and there are a lot of bad jokes and overacting situations.
The game allows re-location of your power and talents points at any moment of the game, completely free. Meaning that if a battle is too hard because the enemy is fire-resistant, you can modify all the stats and talents of your entire party for that combat alone without paying gold or going to a particular place. Quite practical.
Beautiful design and art in general. All characters are voiced. Narrator is voiced too.
Short game, around 12 hours of gameplay.
——- Plot? ——-
The Sun King Napkiraly has been abducted and consequently the land of Operencia is plunged into darkness. It won’t be long before the Underworld is unleashed bringing about the fall of mankind. After a recurring dream you are compelled to set out on a journey to release the Sun King. With a bunch of companions, you explore hidden royal tombs, cursed castles, and Lands of the Gods. Each location boasts its own unique atmosphere, visual style, level design and puzzles.
——- Gameplay? ——-Â
Operencia is split into three main gameplays: battles, exploration, and puzzles. Battles are turn-based and use an initiative system. Exploration of the map allows you to find secret passages, secret treasures, and enemies. The con about this aspect is that movement is not completely free, you move your char following a strict grid on the ground which makes the movement a bit stiff. Puzzles are an integral part of the game and you won’t be able to advance without solving some of them. Puzzles include searching for objects around the map, pressing levers or avoiding traps, re-arranging mixed up pictures or just navigating across inaccessible areas.
——- Characters? ——-Â
Your main character and their companions. There are six companions that have fixed skill trees and are less customisable than your main’s. You can only use three companions in your party, being able to switch them at campfires.Â
 ——- LGBT? ——-
One of your companions (Kela) was married to her wife.Â
——- Sadness level? ——-Â
None. In fact it has a soft humour that sometimes falls into bad non-funny jokes. But it’s bearable.
——- Happy ending? Deaths? ——-
Happy ending. Though, it seems rushed and rather vague related to the fate of your companions. It can be a little unsatisfying.

Operencia - Kela The lesbian soft-butch. She is a blacksmith and buildier (I fucking love that finally a woman is put in that role and they draw her with a strong but not ridiculous torso). She was married with Anna, who was used as human sacrifice in the construction of a castle since there was a curse that made every building collapse after a couple of hours. Not the best way to portrait a nice lesbian couple, and despite her story is clearly a bury-your-gays her mission from the moment you meet her is to revive Anna. So I’m expecting an anti-bury-your-gays kind of situation. Kela expects her wife to forgive her for... you know, using her as a sacrifice to stop the curse that keep collapsing every thing they build. I don’t know how they are going to manage that, because seriously, it’s fucked up, but we will see. This game, so far, is not one a I would recommend strongly, because it’s pretty basic, puzzles are super easy, and companions banter is most of the time weird or overacted. But to play something that doesn’t requiere much of you while providing a soft entertainment is not a bad thing. It’s functional even though it doesn’t inspire enthusiasm.

Wynn Plays: Operencia The Stolen Sun
I have restarted this game so many times. First based on aesthetic, then on the fact that I managed to pick the same class as the starting companion... then again as I learned that there are no companions who are full mages.Â
Here’s 10 Things to Know Before You Play
I like that banter and lore continues even in combat since the combat gets very repetitive and strategic, but some of the banter is sooooo cliche. “Innocence, ha, they weren’t thinking of me when they made that....”
This game reminds me a lot of Legend of Grimrock, a game I played on Steam years ago that got me back into hand-mapping. I like the combat set up of this game better.Â
The further I’ve gone in, the more puzzles I’ve found. I did end up needing a guide on the one with the floor tiles because I didn’t understand the premise, but other than that, all the classics are there. Spinning discs, two jugs, etc. Where I was complaining about Kingdom Hearts level design, this is a different beast because in this case, the game is about the puzzles and figuring out where to go. “It’s not a bug, it’s a feature.”Â
Even potion-making is a logic puzzle.
Kela’s big gay lmao.Â
If you like dungeon crawly- puzzle style games, this one’s only in Game Pass a short time longer.Â

So there no Operencia posts on Tumblr, which is disappointing. I highly recommend it. Aside from some dodgy dialog and occasional over acting it's a really fun indy video game with beautiful art style, interesting lore and funny characters.

Random gaming facts about me (that no one asked for):
I have never finished a Sonic The Hedgehog game. (I own 5 of them.)
I own 9 Assassin’s Creed games, but only ever finished 2. (1 and Origins)
When GTA III came out on the PS2, I played it every single day for a year until Vice City came out. (To this day I still haven’t finished the main story of III).
There have been three games that when I initially played them, I didn’t like them. But, then later went back to them and loved them. (Dead Rising 1, Morrowind, and The Witcher 3.)
I was never into SEGA when I was younger, but now that I am older I have found an appreciation for their games. (This is also true of Neo-Geo.)
I firmly believe that the most important aspect of a video game is it’s gameplay. Anyone who tells me story is more important is someone who’s opinion I will not trust when it comes to games.
I am not into realistic sports games, but I like “arcadey” sports games. (ex: I am not into NBA 2k games, but I like NBA Jam.)
The first console video game I ever played was Jungle Hunt on the Atari 2600.
I owned a 3DO for 48 hours. I had gotten one for Christmas when I was younger. I played it...thought it was cool at first, but quickly realized it wasn’t very good and returned it to the store and got a electric bass guitar instead.
My name is in the credits of the game Operencia: The Stolen Sun.
I designed a gamerpic that was available on the XBox 360 marketplace.

the character banter was actually quite enjoyable! Â Operencia toes a fine line between diving into some lore and keeping the dialogue funny without really wading into cheeseball territory.

I JUST gor a pin from my husband! He is working as a game developer and his company made a new game, Operencia. I had a chance to play it some months ago (it came out last week), and I loved it so much! If you know Hungarian folklore and legends, it is a must-play for you too, but it is still fun when you never heard about it! The conversations killed me! :D #operencia #pin #game #awesome (helyszĂn: Budapest, Hungary) https://www.instagram.com/p/BvyUuqojyyq/?utm_source=ig_tumblr_share&igshid=lkgxxvtn3e62
