Hunger Winter and Operation Manna & Chowhound
One might be forgiven to think that the picture above is from a very impoverished country, but it is not. In fact it is a picture from a family living in one the wealthiest countries in the world. Even during World War 2, the Netherlands was still a wealthy country, albeit that not all the wealth was distributed to its citizens. The picture was taken during the winter of 1944/45, known as the…

If someone would be able to go through the notes on this post to find the person who reblogged this, added textbook Antisemitism, and then blocked me so I couldn't reply, I'd appreciate it if you could tag them so they see this.
You came onto my post, you called me a genocidal psycho, sprouted a textbook definition of antisemitism and then blocked me so I couldn't reply. That's cowardly and pathetic. I spent 15 minutes writing a polite response to your points because you presented them in a reasonable way, ignoring the personal character attack against me. So I'm gonna write it again and I hope you see this.
"Holocaust 2.0"
This is Holocaust inversion. This is a textbook example of antisemitism. The situation in Gaza is horrific and people should not be looking away. People are dying and there is a famine. This does not make it a genocide and it certainly does not make it Holocaust 2.0. Calling it this is repulsive and unbelievably disrespectful to the 6 million+ Jews slaughtered, the Roma communities erased, and the other minorities brutalised in an industrial slaughter the world has never seen before or since.
You talk about how the people protesting are the descendents of those almost wiped out by the holocaust. This is ridiculous, and grossly ignorant. The Netherlands had a Jewish population of around 125,000 people which increased to 140,000 with an influx of German refugees. 107,000 of these were butchered in Auschwitz ans Sobibor. I highly doubt the entire protest is made up of those descended from the few who survived and didn't flee. I know at least one person's sign said their grandparents were survivors. That's fine, and I'm sure there were Jews there but holding them up as the paradigm of the "good jew" and the entire protest is grossly antisemitic.
If you meant that they were descendents of those affected by famine in the Netherlands which the allies tried to mitigate by airdropping food in Operation Chowhound, once again these were not people who were targeted in the Holocaust. The Dutch famine in WW2 was a direct result of the war, and once again a famine is not a genocide. So who are you talking about?
You then say no Israeli Official should not be allowed near a holocaust museum. Why? For almost 80% of Israelis this is the history of their people. This museum bares witness to the crimes that were so evil that the term Genocide was coined to describe it. Everyone should understand how horrific it was and how it happened. Or are you implying they need to learn the lessons of the Holocaust? What lesson should Jews learn from the Holocaust exactly? Please do tell me...
Also I need to point out, if the Nobel committee won't take the iteral peace prize away from Aung San Suu Kyi for letting a literal genocide happen in Myanmar under her watch, because of the good she had done at the time of the presnetation you have no right to say Israeli officials who are not committing a genocide according to the ICJ have no right to see the destruction of their own people being remembered.
You think it's "disgusting" that me as a Jewish person doesn't recognise what's happening? I've been masochistically glued to the news since the Simchat Torah pogrom and have followed this for a long time before that, I would say likely longer than you seeing as I've grown up aware of what was going on. I've been a vocal critic of those currently in charge of Israel, I've talked a great deal with many people about what can be done to push for a two state solution. The fighting needs to stop, the hostages must be returned, aid my freely flow into Gaza to help the civilians and minimise more death from the famine, Gaza must be rebuilt and a Palestinian state formally established beside the Israeli one so both peoples can live in peace and security. I've put the work in in real life, not just sitting behind a keyboard and attacking Jews I disagree with. I desperately thought you may be open to a good faith discussion but you have made it clear that you aren't.
I really hope you can take a moment to reflect on what you said on my post and how unbelievably racist it was
Seeing the protests outside ethe opening of the Dutch holocaust museum, protests with a primary demographic of direct descendants of those who perpetrated the holocaust against their own Jewish neighbours is horrendous. Like they have come together to scream and shout at a Jew, talking about Jewish trauma.
I cannot ever believe that over 100,000 people were deported and murdered (75% of the Jewish population of the Netherlands) and the rest of the population were unaware. They either turned a blind eye or were actively complicit in getting the job done - the number of people who tried to help Jews was vanishingly small. So yes, I feel very comfortable saying that the decents of those who allowed the Jewish community to be obliterated are now the same ones attacking Jews in the modern day.

food blogging
“Food blogging” is a kind of culinary journalism that combines a blog writer’s love of fine dining with food photography. Food bloggers can use their blogs for business purposes to generate income. They are often written by “foodies,” or those who love food. The first food blog first appeared on the Chowhound website in July 1997 and has since been a regular fixture. Chowhound’s founder Jim Leff kept a log of his meals under the headline “What Jim Had for Dinner.”
A genre of blogging called food and travel entails engaging with many cultures. These bloggers tour the world, stopping in cities like Bangkok, Chengdu, and Tokyo as well as other food hotspots like Istanbul, Kuala Lumpur, and Karachi. They record their experiences as they go while also exploring and eating their way through these cities and others like Kuala Lumpur, Kuala Lumpur, and Istanbul. Research, photography, editing, financial investment, and scheduling are all part of food and travel blogging.
Food photography is the skill of creating scrumptious images that the photographer may use professionally by using methods like lighting, arrangement, and background. Simply because of their appearance, certain dishes may get the attention of food bloggers and photographers. A food blogger’s reliance on food photos differs from blog to blog. A food blog can use food photographs to attract viewers and help tell its story.
For eateries, caterers, meal-delivery services, personal chefs, and other food and beverage enterprises, blogging is a popular marketing and brand-building strategy. Businesses frequently select “influencers”—bloggers with a lot of market clout. By constantly sharing top-notch material, influencers can attract a niche following and establish a solid reputation. A portion of the blogger’s audience comes to respect them over time. When a consumer carefully follows an influencer, they frequently form a bond with them that influences their purchase choices. Because influencers are devoted to their fans and have the freedom to craft their messages, audiences frequently believe the endorsement of influencers despite the fact that they are capable of receiving sponsorship. This is the “product” the blogger may “sell” to businesses whose goods and services they would promote or support.
To keep their website updated and relevant to search engines, some restaurants maintain blogs. These blogs let providers show how they are different from the neighbourhood restaurants, which adds another benefit. Since a restaurant blog is an essential part of the business operations, it may be managed by one or more persons.
Many people hunt for healthy meals in order to eat well. These blogs inform readers about the ideal food pairings to consume or offer possible diets, such as blogs about paleo diets.
A food blog is a blog that covers anything from restaurant reviews to journal-style entries about a person’s life decisions to recipes that the author wants to try or experiment with. There is no right or wrong topic focus for a blog; they are all personal things.

• Operations Manna & Chowhound
Operation Manna and Operation Chowhound were co-British & American humanitarian food drops, carried out to relieve a famine in the German-occupied Netherlands, undertaken by Allied bomber crews during the final days of World War II in Europe.
By early 1945, the situation was growing desperate for the three million or more Dutch still under German control. Prince Bernhard appealed directly to Allied Supreme Commander Dwight D. Eisenhower, but Eisenhower did not have the authority to negotiate a truce with the Germans. While the prince got permission from British Prime Minister Winston Churchill and U.S. President Franklin D. Roosevelt, Eisenhower had Air Commodore Andrew Geddes begin planning immediately. On April 23rd, authorisation was given by the Chief of Staff, George Marshall. Allied agents negotiated with Reichskommissar Arthur Seyss-Inquart and a team of German officers. Among the participants were the Canadian future writer Farley Mowat and the German commander-in-chief, General Johannes Blaskowitz. It was agreed that the participating aircraft would not be fired upon within specified air corridors.
The British operation started first. It was named after the food which was miraculously provided to the Israelites in the Book of Exodus. The planning of the operation was initially done by the Royal Air Force. The first of the two RAF Avro Lancasters chosen for the test flight, the morning of April 29th,1945, was nicknamed Bad Penny, as in the expression: "a bad penny always turns up". This bomber, with a crew of seven young men including pilot Robert Upcott of Windsor, Ontario, took off in bad weather despite the fact that the Germans had not yet agreed to a ceasefire. Bad Penny had to fly low, down to 50 feet (15 m), over German guns, but succeeded in dropping her cargo and returning to her airfield. Operation Manna then began in earnest. British aircraft from Groups 1, 3, and 8 took part, flying 145 sorties by Mosquitoes and 3,156 sorties by Lancaster bombers, flying between them a total of 3,301 sorties. These bombers were used to dropping bombs from 6,000 metres (20,000 ft), but this time they had to do their job from a height of 150 metres (490 ft), some even flying as low as 120 metres (390 ft), as the cargo did not have parachutes. The drop zones, marked by Mosquitoes from 105 and 109 Squadrons using Oboe, were: Katwijk (Valkenburg airfield), The Hague (Duindigt horse race course and Ypenburg airfield), Rotterdam (Waalhaven airfield and Kralingse Plas) and Gouda. Bomber Command delivered a total of 6,680 tons of food. Some examples of food dropped was tinned food, dried food and chocolate.
The idea was for people to gather and redistribute the food, but some could not resist eating straight away, which caused some people to get sick and vomit, (and some died) a result that fatty food can have in starved bodies known as Refeeding syndrome. On the other hand, distribution sometimes took as long as ten days, resulting in some getting the food only after the liberation. Nevertheless, many lives were saved, and it gave hope and the feeling that the war would soon be over. Earlier, there had been a distribution of white bread made from Swedish flour that was shipped in and baked locally. A popular myth holds that this bread was dropped from aircraft, but that is a mix-up between the two events. Also, the food was not dropped with parachutes.
On the American side, ten bomb groups of the US Third Air Division flew 2,268 sorties beginning on May 1st, delivering a total of 4000 tons. 400 B-17 Flying Fortress bombers of the United States Army Air Forces dropped 800 tons of K-rations between May 1st to the 3rd on Amsterdam Schiphol Airport. At least one B-17 crew, that of the Stork Club from the 550th squadron received battle recognition despite having no guns for their humanitarian mission, as a result of German flak. Allied aircraft transported more than 11,000 tons of food, saved thousands of lives and set a valuable precedent for the Berlin Airlift in 1948 and 1949 and future humanitarian missions to come. For Seyss-Inquart, his acquiescence to the flights was not enough to save him. After the war, he was tried and convicted as a war criminal at Nuremberg and subsequently executed. At the height of the relief effort, more than 900 bombers a day took to the skies. Although a handful of American aircraft were hit by sporadic German ground fire, none were shot down. As food and salvation fell from the skies, crews saw for themselves the gratitude of the Dutch people in messages such as the field of manicured tulips arranged by one grateful farmer to spell out, “Thank You".

-It has been 14years ago, when Doctors found a Tumor( later deemed Benign) under my eye that required surgery. It affected my vision, and gave me terrible headaches and nosebleeds. I hated asking for help, but without insurance- I had to go back to Japan to see a team of doctors for the operation. My Japanese was not good, so I got tremendous support from family, relatives and great friends in those uncertain times. I was extremely anxious and agitated with the fact that I had to leave my then girlfriend(Now Wife) all alone as well as leave my kitchen post. Let’s not forget that every doctor visit left me more confused, and most surgeons refused such risky procedure. I felt helpless and depressed. It seemed like I had to live with this growing tumor in my eye forever or risk losing my eyesight. Seeing how depressed I was, my parents and my aunt, uncle took me to see my hometown and then made a pit stop at this tiny curry shop. It was a small place, and unfortunately forgot the name but I sat in front of the open kitchen where the Chef made this magical omelet stuffed with buttery rice pilaf, with oozing rich egg that drizzled as I cut into it and almost Demiglace-like decadent umami bomb of a curry that blew away any negativity I had stuck in my head. That dish made me have hope. I pressed on after our meal there, for another few weeks scouring hospitals all over Japan and finally found an amazing surgeon that would operate on my eye. I was able to make full recovery, and got back to the states to reach more milestones. To get current, it seems we are all in a time of uncertainty due to the persistence of COVID, so I decided today to prepare this curry omurice- kind of like the one I had 14years ago that gave me so much strength and hope. No matter what may come, I will stay positive and be grateful for today and everyday. Amazing what memories are tied into what we eat🍛#inspiration#omelette #omurice#egg#rice#foodmemories #homecooksinspired dinnertime#dinner #winterfood #tastyfood #instafood#igfood#homecooksinspired #delicious #deliciousfood #eeeeeats #nomnomnom #broth#foodphotography #foodgasm#foodporn#imadethis#huffposttaste #lovetocook #chowhound #buzzfe https://www.instagram.com/p/CJHNGewjtWF/?igshid=13eocwxo12cya
