Adding on to this, because while I agree with the message of this post, I feel like the alternatives suggested aren't really the best options (are pretty bad options after reading a little more) since both seem to be corporate created and controlled software the availability of can be snagged away at a moments' notice.
Sure, Paintstorm Studio has a lifetime license- for one PC. Want to use it on both a laptop and a desktop? Better fork over more money for more licenses.
Or- instead of being at the mercy of some company for when and where you can use the software you paid for, you can just download Krita instead, which is an actually free, open source program, developed by volunteers. Have a few bucks to spare and want to support its development? You can donate if you want.
OnlyOffice is probably fine, if you can figure out where on the worst designed website I've ever seen to actually get it, but LibreOffice (which I'll actually link) is, again- open source, volunteer developed, and actually- completely- free, with a more mature feature set, even if it is a bit uglier. (They accept donations too.)
Also, just because it's not Google's cloud storage system doesn't mean it's necessarily better.
For 3D modeling, there's always Blender, which used to be an absolute nightmare to use, years ago, but got a lot more funding by both individuals and companies tired of software that costs hundreds of dollars per user monthly being the status quo, and has been improving by leaps and bounds every year.
For 2D/3D PC (Windows/Mac/Linux) game development, there's Godot. It's not as fully featured as, say, Unity, but it's easy to get started with, has a tiny system footprint by comparison, and again- free, open source.
And for non-painting image editing, I really hate to admit it- you can use GIMP. This is actually one of my least favorite programs. Sure, it can do a lot of things- it just does them in bad obnoxious ways and has a super clunky GUI.
Friendly reminder that adobe sucks and that you can get a lifetime license for paintstorm studio for $20
Or any of the affinity creative programs for $40 each (or $100 for all three) which is also a one time payment
Also for writing and other general office purposes you can get onlyoffice for replacements for microsoft word, excel, or powerpoint for FREE. They also have an online version to replace google drive for the privacy conscious & mobile versions.
(There's also libre office which is open source but that takes more work to get an appearance you like and default is real old school ugly lookin)
Please support other good programs if you can! It's a huge help for putting the tyranny of overpriced goods to an end (more so than just piracy)

ONLYOFFICE DESKTOP EDITORS REVIEW INSTALL
ONLYOFFICE DESKTOP EDITORS REVIEW SERIES
ONLYOFFICE DESKTOP EDITORS REVIEW FREE
It lets you create, format, and edit text documents as much as you can. I entered the information for my timezone and location, but TrueOS set the time ahead by five hours. The Document Editor is a comprehensive word processing tool. They seem to have a large click area, so you don’t miss.įor some reason, I could not get the system clock set. Most other “start” menus don’t have this problem. Also, when I went to click on the “start” button, I had to make sure to click on the icon, not near it, or the menu would not launch. The battery and sound icon were large, but the wifi icon was half the size. One thing that I kept noticing was that the icons in the system tray were not a uniform size. They have come a long way from their first release, but it still feels unfinished. I applaud the TrueOS team for creating their own desktop environment (especially since the whole TrueOS team consists of less than a dozen people.). While it was cool at first, it got annoying pretty quickly. Like macOS and Windows, TrueOS has login and shutdown jingles.
ONLYOFFICE DESKTOP EDITORS REVIEW HOW TO
(I have a fast connection and it took over 30 minutes.) When I was searching for information about how to use ports, I did see a command that allows you to only download the ports that you want to install, but that was not included in the TrueOS handbook. Also, it takes quite a while to download the entire ports collection.
ONLYOFFICE DESKTOP EDITORS REVIEW INSTALL
While this process is similar to Arch’s AUR, it limits you to install one package at a time. From there you need to navigate to the directory of the port you want to install and type make installto start the process. The first step is to download the ports information from GitHub with this command: git clone /usr/ports. This is what I learned from my research on the web. Unfortunately, the section on ports was very light on details. To figure out how to do this, I turned to the TrueOS handbook. I was also unable to install Dropbox, which I use to backup up my writing.īesides the AppCafe package manager, you can also install applications using the TrueOS ports collection. Interestingly, when I searched Markdown in the AppCafe there were quite a few packages listed, but none of them were Markdown editors. However, I was unable to install my favorite Markdown editor, ghostwriter. I was able to quickly install LibreOffice, VLC, FireFox, and Calibre. TrueOS does come with its own package manager (AppCafe), which made things easy. Whenever I start using a new operating system, I check to see if the applications that I regularly use are available. My experience was not as good as I had hoped. After all, it ships with its own desktop environment. Based on the name, I was expecting a polished desktop experience. My only experience with BSD before this had been a web server running FreeBSD. I’ve been wanting to install TrueOS for a while (going back to the PC-BSD days). I have not managed to install vanilla Arch yet, but I’m sure it would take longer. I’ve installed FreeBSD and it took a little over an hour to go from text installer to a GUI. I would like to note that some BSDs are fairly easy to install. You have to install TrueOS, even if you only want to test it. Interestingly, you don’t have the option to boot into a live environment.
ONLYOFFICE DESKTOP EDITORS REVIEW SERIES
It was similar to most modern OS installers, you work your way through a series of screens which ask you for information. The installation process was pretty painless. This laptop has an Intel Centrino Duo Core processor running at 2.00 GHz, NVIDIA Quadro NVS 135M graphics chip, and 4 GB of RAM. I was able to successfully install TrueOS on my Dell Latitude D630. The number of applications that come pre-installed in TrueOS is small.
ONLYOFFICE DESKTOP EDITORS REVIEW FREE
20 – 30 GB of free hard drive space on a primary partition for a graphical desktop installation.
10 – 15 GB of free hard drive space on a primary partition for a command-line server installation.
TrueOS’ handbook lists the following system requirements Minimum Requirements Lumina does come with its own file manager, media player, archiver and other utilities. It currently uses Fluxbox, but they are writing a new window manage for tighter integration. However, it has been ported for several Linux distros. Since it is primarily designed for TrueOS and other BSDs, Lumina does not make use of “any of the Linux-based desktop frameworks (ConsoleKit, PolicyKit, D-Bus, systemd, etc.)”. Started in 2014, Lumina is a lightweight desktop created by the TrueOS team from scratch. While TrueOS supports many of the desktop environments that you are used to, it comes with Lumina installed by default.

Just remembered, for anyone in need of office software that works well with MS Office go check out OnlyOffice. It has the highest compatibility with MS Office files, and the desktop suite is opensource. I’d prefer not dealing with AGPLv3 but understandable considering their commercialisation model is selling enterprise cloud services.
It’s a lot better than LibreOffice, though it only ships with word processing, spreadsheets, and presentation software. Then again there are better diagramming/vector editors out there and most people don’t need database software in their office suite.

okay, LibreOffice seems to be borked on my work AND home macs. i think it has something to do with Java because java is terrible
at this point the only office software that actually works on my linux laptop and my mac desktop is ONLYOFFICE (which is definitely free-as-in-beer and claims to also be free-as-in-speech but I don’t see a link to their code) ETA: actually there’s a “Fork me on GitHub” link so it’s officially Free i guess
(don’t talk to me about Google Docs I hate hate hate hate hate doing non-internet-specific things in a web browser. I have gone to great lengths to get most of the benefits of Jupyter notebooks in a text editor (Atom) because I hate in-browser things JUST THAT MUCH)
(disclaimer: i’m not saying in-browser things or GDocs is BAD, I just personally hate it for me personally)

A business may require a platform to house certain private files just like it is done on Google Drive. FileRun can do this. FileRun is a safe, secure, and extendable Nextcloud compatible platform on which you can manage, share and sync files. It allows one to access files, share and sync files via WebDAV or connect to the Nextcloud mobile application. Below are some of the cool features associated with FileRun: Nextcloud compatible – you can sync files from your desktop using the Nextcloud desktop sync apps and also access them via the Nextcloud mobile app. Metadata support – It automatically extracts and index information XMP, Exif, and IPTC, and therefore allowing one to search photos by keywords, author, dates e.t.c Guest users support – allows you to collaborate with other people without creating accounts for them Send file requests – with just a link, you collect and receive files from anyone right into your FileRun user account. No import/scanning required – similarly to FTP, just point FileRun to where you keep the files on your server and you will get instant web access to them. Native mobile apps – FileRun allows you can upload, browse and share files using compatible Android or iOS apps such as Nextcloud, WebDAV navigator, FE File explorer e.t.c mobile support – you need to install nothing on your phone, just open FileRun in your mobile browser and it will automatically adapt to screens of any size to provide a smooth and intuitive experience. Virtual drive – It gives one access to files directly from their computer, without impacting all of the disk space. There are various plugins available for FileRun as explained below: ONLYOFFICE – used to create, edit and preview Office files. Google Docs Editor – Used to create and edit Office files. Office Web View – for previewing Microsoft Office files. Google Docs Viewer – Preview PDF and Office files. Zoho Editor – can also be used to create, edit and preview Office files. Office Web View – Preview Microsoft Office files. Image editor – Crop, resize and rotate images you can also use it to adjust brightneess/contrast/saturation and more. Autodesk – Preview CAD files. Manipulate PDF documents – Merge multiple documents into one. Split documents and extract pages. This guide aims to demonstrate how to run Filerun Storage Sync Server in Docker Container. Getting Started. Prepare your server for the installation by updating your system installing the required packages: ## On RHEL/CentOS/RockyLinux 8 sudo yum update sudo yum install curl vim ## On Debian/Ubuntu sudo apt update && sudo apt upgrade sudo apt install curl vim ## On Fedora sudo dnf update sudo dnf -y install curl vim Step 1 – Install Docker and Docker-Compose Before we dive into the nub of this guide, you need to have both Docker and Docker-compose installed on your system. Installing Docker on Linux can be achieved using the dedicated guide below. How To Install Docker CE on Linux Systems Verify the installed docker version. $ docker -v Docker version 20.10.12, build e91ed57 Once docker is installed, install docker-compose using the below steps: Download the docker-compose script. curl -s https://api.github.com/repos/docker/compose/releases/latest | grep browser_download_url | grep docker-compose-linux-x86_64 | cut -d '"' -f 4 | wget -qi - Make the script executable and move it to your path. chmod +x docker-compose-linux-x86_64 sudo mv docker-compose-linux-x86_64 /usr/local/bin/docker-compose Add your system user to the docker group. sudo usermod -aG docker $USER newgrp docker Check the installed version of Docker-Compose. $ docker-compose version Docker Compose version v2.2.3 You are also required to start and enable docker before proceeding. sudo systemctl start docker && sudo systemctl enable docker Step 2 – Provision the FileRun Container Create a folder for FileRun as below. sudo mkdir /filerun
sudo chmod 777 /filerun Now in the directory, create a YAML file to be used to orchestrate the FileRun instance. vim docker-compose.yml In the file, add the lines below: version: '2' services: db: image: mariadb:10.1 environment: MYSQL_ROOT_PASSWORD: StrongPassword MYSQL_USER: filerun_user MYSQL_PASSWORD: Passw0rd MYSQL_DATABASE: filerun volumes: - /filerun/db:/var/lib/mysql web: image: filerun/filerun environment: FR_DB_HOST: db FR_DB_PORT: 3306 FR_DB_NAME: filerun FR_DB_USER: filerun_user FR_DB_PASS: Passw0rd APACHE_RUN_USER: www-data APACHE_RUN_USER_ID: 33 APACHE_RUN_GROUP: www-data APACHE_RUN_GROUP_ID: 33 depends_on: - db links: - db - tika - elasticsearch ports: - "80:80" volumes: - /filerun/html:/var/www/html - /filerun/user-files:/user-files tika: image: logicalspark/docker-tikaserver elasticsearch: image: docker.elastic.co/elasticsearch/elasticsearch:6.2.4 container_name: elasticsearch environment: - cluster.name=docker-cluster - bootstrap.memory_lock=true - "ES_JAVA_OPTS=-Xms512m -Xmx512m" ulimits: memlock: soft: -1 hard: -1 mem_limit: 1g volumes: - /filerun/esearch:/usr/share/elasticsearch/data In the above file, we have the following volumes: /var/www/html – for FileRun application files /filerun/user-files – For the FileRun user files /var/lib/mysql – for the MariaDB data /usr/share/elasticsearch/data for Elasticsearch index data Create the required directories as below. mkdir /filerun/html /filerun/user-files /filerun/esearch Step 3 – Run the FileRun Docker Container After configuring everything as above, we will start the container using docker-compose: docker-compose up -d Sample output: [+] Running 1/44 ⠹ db Pulling 6.3s ⠦ 01bf7da0a88c Waiting 3.7s ⠦ f3b4a5f15c7a Waiting 3.7s ⠦ 57ffbe87baa1 Waiting 3.7s ⠦ 7ac3ea3a19e9 Waiting 3.7s ⠦ b89d9d23853d Waiting 3.7s ⠦ 6512bf94537d Waiting 3.7s ⠦ d75afd385b71 Waiting 3.7s ⠦ ab1935952eac Waiting 3.7s ⠦ 209bb6034896 Waiting 3.7s ⠦ aa325c613ddb Waiting 3.7s ⠦ 050a67aa09df Waiting 3.7s ⠦ bdb7d28d54b6 Waiting 3.7s ⠦ 0bc74f023b50 Waiting 3.7s ⠹ web Pulling 6.3s

Step 4 – Setup the cron indexing process Using the FileRun container ID, open a console inside the container as below. docker exec -it be8d409b9c53 bash Remember to replace the container ID with your own container ID for FileRun. Once in the container console run the command: vim /var/www/html/cron/process_search_index_queue.sh Add the below lines to the opened file. php /var/www/html/cron/process_search_index_queue.php Save the file and assign the required permissions: chmod 755 /var/www/html/cron/process_search_index_queue.sh Also, open a crontab. vim /etc/crontab Add the line below leaving an empty line below it. * * * * * root /var/www/html/cron/process_search_index_queue.sh At this point, you should have FileRun automatically indexed inside Elasticsearch. The cronjob will run once every minute. Step 5 – Access the FileRun Web UI The FileRun server has been exposed on port 80 and can be accessed using the URL http://IP_Address Click Next to go to the requirements check page. With all the requirements met, proceed to configure the database. With the correct details provided, click next. You will be provided with a username and password. Use the given credentials to log in to the FileRun dashboard. On successful authentication, you will see the FileRun dashboard. Here, you can add new files/folders to your server. The added files will appear as below. Change your password under Superuser->account settings You can also make further configurations such as admin users, roles, groups, plugin setup, user interface e.t.c under the control panel tab. Enable API under the API settings tab. Step 6 – File sync using Desktop Client To sync files on FileRun with the client, you need the Nextcloud app installed on a client machine. This can be achieved by downloading and installing the app from the links below. Nextcloud for Windows Nextcloud for macOS(10.12+) Nextcloud for Linux You can also install the Desktop Client using system package providers On Debian/Ubuntu sudo add-apt-repository ppa:nextcloud-devs/client sudo apt-get update Install the Nextcloud desktop app from the PPA. sudo apt install nextcloud-desktop On CentOS/RHEL/Rocky Linux/Alma Linux
sudo yum -y install epel-release sudo yum -y install nextcloud-client Once installed, launch the app. Login to the FileRun server. Provide the FileRun server URL. You will be redirected to a web page where you need to provide login details for the FileRun user. Accept Nextcloud to access FileRun using the user. Once everything is okay, you will see this message. Now close the web page and proceed to the Nextcloud connection wizard. Here, choose what to sync you can also sync everything in the local folder. With the connection established, you will see this window pop up. Click resume sync for all to sync everything. Now proceed and access the mounted Nextcloud path. Here, the files created in FileRun will be in the @Home directory. Create a new folder here say downloads Back to the FileRun server, the folder should appear. Closing Thoughts Voila! We have triumphantly gone through how to run the Filerun Storage Sync Server in Docker Container. Now you can access, create and edit your files using Filerun via the web interface or the desktop sync app.

Spreadsheet For Mac Os X
Tumblr media
In computing, an office suite is a collection of productivity software usually containing at least a word processor, spreadsheet and a presentation program. There are many different brands and types of office suites. Popular office suites include Microsoft Office, Google Workspace (formerly G Suite), Apache OpenOffice, and LibreOffice.
Multi-platform office suites[edit]
Free and open source suites[edit]
Spreadsheet Pro 1.1 for Mac is available as a free download on our software library. This Mac application is a product of Nick Maskill. The most popular version of the program is 1.1. This Mac download was checked by our antivirus and was rated as clean. The program belongs to System Tools. ‎Create gorgeous spreadsheets with Numbers for Mac. Get started with one of many Apple-designed templates for your home budget, checklist, invoice, mortgage calculator, and more. Add tables, charts, text, and images anywhere on the free-form canvas. As soon as you start typing a formula, you'll get i.

Ichitaro JUST Suite 2008 – a full Japanese-language suite from JustSystems, the most direct competitor to Microsoft Office in Japan. For Windows only.
Microsoft Office – Note that while Microsoft makes both a Windows and Mac version of Office, the Windows only version is named just Microsoft Office and has a slightly different feature set than the Mac version, which is named 'Microsoft Office for Mac'.
