My in-depth dive into 'Only Human' is getting so detailed and extraordinary, my conversations with the author might go on for quite a few more weeks! I'm gobsmacked about all the new things I've learned and can't wait to share them with y'all! Seriously. But I also keep learning more and more, and I want to wait until I can tell this incredible story the right way. The way it deserves. The number of people who take Roko's Basilisk dead seriously is incredible when you think about what a bonkers assumption it makes. Since it's not about an hyperintelligent AI punishing people who tried to stop or destroy it, it's a hyperintelligent AI punishing people who merely didn't work on its creation, like an evil baby murdering anyone who didn't directly help their parents bone. After all, the AI in Roko's Basilisk is explicitly a friendly AI, who has to punish people who didn't help make it because they almost stopped it from being able to help people, much like how when you build a hospital you logically and rationally have to murder everyone who didn't aid in its construction. They're proposing things as pragmatic, cold machine logic that's really total moon logic

Like if I was a benevolent AI who wanted the best for humanity I don't think "COSIGN MY ENEMIES TO INFINITE HOLOGRAPHIC TORTURE" would really enter into my thought process. Not until the Captain enters my AI core and puts in a OnlyHuman and KillAllNonhumans module anyway

It's transparently just Pascal's Wager with a techno frame! It was first posted on the message board of that guy who wrote a fanfic asking "what if Harry Potter was Rational"! It's something every billionaire tech guy unironically believes and fears as a potential scenario which means it's something society is hugely impacted by.
