Fifteen years Chapter 1 X Will Poulter
Tumblr media
MasterList
Will Poulter Masterlist
Chapter 1. 2. 3. 4. 5.
Tumblr media
There’s something a bit magical about Christmas in London. The chill in the air, the smell of roasted chestnuts wafting from street corners, fairy lights strung across every high street like glimmering spiderwebs. It always makes me feel like anything could happen.
I didn’t expect him, though.
Not when I was elbow-deep in my tote bag, standing outside Waterstones with two carrier bags tugging at my wrists and the wind trying to steal my scarf. I was searching for my bloody lip balm, which had somehow vanished into the abyss of receipts and crumpled tissues.
“Y/n?”
I froze.
There’s something about hearing your name in a voice you haven’t heard for years that stops you in your tracks. Like muscle memory catching up before your brain does.
I turned slowly, heart giving a weird little jolt.
Will Poulter.
He looked the same and entirely different. Taller, broader, obviously he’d grown into his features, that sharp jawline and those unmistakable eyebrows. But the smile? That was exactly the same. Crooked and boyish and completely disarming.
I blinked. “Will?”
He laughed, stepping closer. “No bloody way. I thought that was you. You’ve not changed a bit.”
I snorted, still too stunned to speak properly. “Well, I’d hope I’ve changed a little. It’s been, what
 fifteen years?”
“Something like that,” he said, eyes scanning my face like he was making sure it was really me. “You look amazing. Honestly. Gorgeous.”
My cheeks flamed immediately, which was just rude of them, really. We’d barely been speaking thirty seconds and already I was blushing like a teenager again.
“You always did know how to charm a girl,” I replied, raising an eyebrow.
He grinned. “Only when I meant it.”
A beat passed between us, the world rushing around but oddly quiet in our little bubble.
“Are you busy right now?” he asked, suddenly shifting from one foot to the other. “Because I’d love to buy you a drink. If you’ve got time.”
I hesitated for all of half a second.
“Sure,” I said. “I’ve got time.”
We ended up in a cosy little pub tucked between two shops near the high street, all warm lighting and wooden beams, smelling faintly of cinnamon and beer. A fireplace crackled in the corner, and someone was playing soft acoustic covers on a guitar.
“God, I remember coming here after school sometimes,” I said, settling into the booth across from him. “When we were trying to look old enough to order.”
He laughed. “You mean when you tried to look old enough. I just stood behind you and let you do all the talking.”
“Oh, that’s right. I had to pretend I was twenty-two when I was barely sixteen.”
“And somehow you pulled it off.”
“Pure panic and lip gloss,” I said, grinning.
He chuckled, shaking his head fondly. “Drama class really paid off.”
The mention of drama class made something flutter in my chest.
“Do you remember Mrs Godfrey?” I asked, sipping my mulled wine.
“How could I forget?” he replied. “She once told me I had the emotional range of a teaspoon.”
I nearly choked on my drink. “She did not!”
“She absolutely did. During Blood Brothers. I cried on cue the next day just to prove her wrong.”
I laughed, wiping my mouth with a napkin. “You were brilliant, though. Even back then. Everyone could see it.”
He tilted his head, smile softening. “So were you.”
I met his eyes across the table. “So what happened? One minute we were inseparable, and the next
 you were just gone.”
He looked down, fingers curling around his glass. “Yeah. I suppose I never really explained.”
“Nope,” I said, trying to keep my voice light. “One day you were sitting next to me in rehearsal, and the next you’d vanished. Left school, left me.”
He winced. “I’m sorry about that. Honestly. Things moved really fast. My agent suggested online school so I could start working full time. I didn’t know how to handle it all. I should’ve called. Or written. Something.”
I shrugged, suddenly very interested in the lemon slice floating in my drink. “I get it. You were doing something huge. Following your dream. I couldn’t exactly compete with that.”
“You were never supposed to compete,” he said, voice low. “You were one of the best parts of my childhood, Y/n. I think about those years more than I probably should.”
I glanced up, pulse doing that stupid fluttery thing again.
“What about now?” I asked. “What are you doing back here?”
“Visiting my parents for Christmas. They’re still in the same house can you believe that?”
I smiled. “I drove past it the other day. Your mum always did have the best fairy lights on the street.”
“She still does. Dad nearly broke his leg putting them up this year.”
We laughed again, the kind of laugh that warmed you from the inside out.
“What about you?” he asked. “Tell me everything. What’ve you been doing these last fifteen years?”
I sighed, swirling my drink. “Well, I didn’t become a world-famous actor, if that’s what you’re asking.”
He rolled his eyes. “Come on. Hit me with it.”
“I studied English, ended up working in publishing for a while, then decided I hated corporate life and started my own little bookshop last year. It’s tiny but mine. I even run a theatre book club every month.”
His face lit up. “That’s amazing.”
“It’s not Hollywood,” I said with a shrug, “but I love it.”
He leaned forward slightly. “Sounds like you made your own kind of magic.”
I smiled, heart thudding. “Maybe.”
The conversation spilled easily from there. We talked about everything his travels, the weirdest sets he’d worked on, the time he got mistaken for Jack Whitehall in a Los Angeles supermarket. I told him about my friends, my little flat above the bakery, the neighbour’s cat that kept sneaking in and stealing socks.
We laughed until our sides ached. Every now and then, I’d catch him looking at me like he couldn’t quite believe I was real. And truthfully, I felt the same.
It wasn’t until we were walking back to the car park, coats zipped and breath puffing in the cold air, that the quiet settled between us. Not awkward just gentle.
“I still can’t believe it’s really you,” I said, my fingers brushing his as we strolled.
“I was thinking the same,” he replied. “You’re even more beautiful than I remember.”
I glanced sideways at him, heart fluttering madly. “You’re such a flirt.”
He grinned. “Only when I mean it.”
Another beat. Then, he reached out and gently took my hand.
It was tentative at first, like he wasn’t sure I’d let him. But I didn’t pull away. I just laced my fingers through his and squeezed once.
The silence that followed was the kind you don’t want to end.
As we reached the corner of the street, I slowed down.
“This is me,” I said, nodding to the parked car across the road. “You heading back?”
He hesitated. “Yeah. But
I’d really like to see you again. Before I go back to LA to film.”
I bit my lip. “I’d like that too.”
He smiled soft and warm and utterly boyish.
“Fifteen years,” he said, shaking his head. “And I finally get to hold your hand.”
I laughed, cheeks flushed. “Took you long enough.”
He leaned in then, slowly, giving me every chance to move away.
But I didn’t.
His lips met mine gently warm, soft, careful. And yet it felt like fireworks were going off in my ribcage. Familiar, and yet entirely new.
When we pulled back, we both just stood there for a moment, slightly breathless.
“Goodnight, Will,” I whispered.
“Goodnight, Y/n.”
As I slipped into my car, I caught him watching me from the pavement, hands in his pockets, smile still playing at the corners of his mouth.
And for the first time in a long while, I felt like something lovely was beginning again.

HL Modern No-Magic AU - Trio Setup
The other day, I was wildly hallucinating a modern AU oneshot, but it depends on a lot of ideas that I haven't talked about at all. So here they are!
This is in the same universe as my 'What type of tumblr user Hogwarts Legacy characters would be' post.
Tumblr media
Hogwarts is a very small university in Scotland that barely anyone has heard of. It’s no Cambridge or Oxford in terms of general populace renown, but as if by magic every single graduate of that school has gone on to be wildly successful. Many legacy families absolutely hate the fact that Hogwarts will admit non-legacy students from lower class backgrounds, but its admissions process is a mystery to all but the highest ranked faculty. There’s no website link or process for potential students to apply. It just sends out acceptance letters.
There are four dormitories students are assigned to. Placement is roughly based off of majors but sometimes students get placed in different dorms depending on rooms filled.
Everyone is in the same year.
Tumblr media
Ominis & Sebastian
They went to different secondary schools but met each other online through a Discord server centred around learning musical instruments.
Sebastian’s guitar riff was so bad after he really talked up his skills that Ominis, who rarely interacts in the server, sent a 45 second voice memo roasting the shit out of it.
(Is this foreshadowing for a ‘What HL characters are like as Discord users'?? maybe)
They share a dorm room together and Ominis is the ‘messy’ one because he brought entirely too much stuff and is used to having a much larger bedroom. Everything is organised; he just intrudes on Sebastian’s space. Sebastian allows it on the condition he gets to borrow Ominis’s top of the line technology (headphones, keyboards, recording equipment).
Tumblr media
Ominis Gaunt
Magic as an aid is now replaced with technology and

His near-sentient wand is now an actually sentient guide dog. Dobermans are good guide dogs and are the breed of dog to choose their own master, which is another connection to wands. His doberman also doubles as a protection dog.
When he was young, there was an Incident in which his dog bit someone and the dog had to be put down, which upset Ominis a lot
The Gaunt family, on top of being the usual British gentry, are known for breeding very capable dogs. There’s rumours that they breed dogs to fight

His family still sucks
His parents are extremely absent and his older brother is certifiably diagnosed with a personality disorder, not that anything is done about his sociopathic tendencies besides covering them up.
When they were children, Marvolo once agitated the aggressive dogs and locked Ominis in a pen with them and that’s how Ominis got those scars.
Marvolo actually got sent to one of those teen reform schools when he did something bad to a politician’s son, but the abusive experience there fucked him up even more.
Because religion is in my story (Shadow Consumes the Sun), I’m transferring that over. The Gaunts are catholic (irish heritage) and despite Ominis now being distant from the church, he has all that catholic guilt and religious trauma
Aunt Noctua is alive because I like having living female characters instead of dead ones whose purpose is to move the plot along
Interests
For Ominis’s secondary education he went to a school for the visually impaired. Those schools tend to heavily push music and he stuck with it.
He’s studying music production. To the common people, music producers are hardly known (a few exceptions being Jack Antonoff, Benny Blanco, Trent Reznor). However within the music industry, they are a vital part of the creation process.
Loves his mechanical keyboards. Brought 3 of them to Hogwarts. Click clack clicky clack clack
Sadly had to leave his extensive vinyl collect back at his parents’ house
Tumblr media
Sebastian Sallow
He’s a reddit user and the only playboy thing about him is that his longest romantic relationship lasted 3 months
That makes me sound like I hate him but listen, he’s just a popular nerd. Sebastian’s version of a party is a group study session that devolves into taking shots for every wrong flashcard answer
He's on a scholarship. During freshman year he also had a job to help pay for expenses + Anne, but was too burnt out to continue into second year. His friendship with Garreth was a major help to how he survived finals on 4 hours of sleep
Due to his odd hours, he once was up late in the library and the staff forgot he was still there when they locked up for the night
Tried to spend all his weekends driving back down to Feldcroft to visit a chronically ill Anne, but Anne was like ‘you need to live your life for me, you bloody loser’ and so he only visits once a month
In secondary school, he and his mates tried to start a scottish punk band! They were never commercially successful!
Tumblr media
Anesidora Fig
The main character of Shadow Consumes the Sun
True, authentic niece to Eleazar and Miriam Fig. Her immediate family is alive, she just doesn’t like talking to them. She's cousins with Livia Malfoy.
Intended to go to University of London, but her uncle's connections came through and now she's at Hogwarts.
The way she starts interacting with Ominis is that they share a gen ed history class and she drags him into a plot to get the professor fired
Professor Binns still sucks as a history professor and Anesidora wants his ass replaced with someone competent. Binns, however, has tenure and the only way he can get terminated is through a strong justifiable cause
like not providing accommodations to disabled students
Binns is old as hell and still writes on a chalkboard. He has never provided accommodation to Ominis. (Ominis doesn’t care because Binns teaches directly from the book anyways.) But it’s enough that Binns gets replaced.
Once a competent History professor enters the stage, Ominis is like ‘well now I’m failing history. You better help me get through this class, Fig’. They officially become history class study buddies but this quickly turns into them hanging out with a history textbook in the general vicinity.
Studies and Majors
Anesidora -> history and information science in order to gain a masters and become an archivist
Sebastian -> biomedical science with the hopes he finds a cure for his sister
Ominis -> business (family wishes) and music
Poppy -> environmental science
Natsai -> criminology.
Imelda -> physics and physical education
Amit -> astronomy and physics
Garreth -> chemistry and wants to become a pharmacist. Has a side hustle as an ‘unlicensed pharmacist’.
Rookwood & The Plot
Rookwood has a company that does business with the government. His business is extremely bad for the environment and he polluted the water in Hogwarts Valley. Anne has a chronic illness because of this pollution.
The common people suspect that the Ashwinder Company does dump waste into the environment but they have neither the proof of them doing it nor the scientific evidence to link illnesses to the pollution. There’s also no effective cure to the illnesses.
There’s no goblins because jfc the real world counterpart to a Harry Potter goblin is
 yikes
Locations
The thing about living in an old castle of a school is that no one changes the locks. Passed down through his family, Ominis has the key to a disused seminar room that he calls the Undercroft
Quidditch pitch is now the football (soccer) pitch
Tumblr media
Congratulations if you read the entirety of this post. I have ideas on what modern outfits they would wear. I might make a post on that later.

Best Online Tutoring Websites for Tutors in 2025 And Why You Should Start Today!
Tumblr media
🎓 Best Online Tutoring Websites for Tutors in 2025 (And Why You Should Start Today!)
Hey fellow educators, knowledge-sharers, and curious minds! 👋 If you’ve ever thought “I wish I could teach from home and still earn well” — this post is for you.
Online tutoring isn't just a side hustle anymore. It’s turning into a full-time, flexible career path for thousands of teachers, students, and subject experts. Whether you want to help a 10th grader with algebra or teach spoken English to working professionals, the opportunities are endless in 2025.
So here’s the big question: Which are the best online tutoring websites for tutors right now?
Let’s dive into my top picks, tried and tested by thousands of tutors worldwide 🌏👇
💡 1. Shikshanest – The Rising Star in India’s Tutoring Scene
You might not have heard of Shikshanest yet, but trust me — it’s the underdog turning heads!
If you're based in India and searching for teaching jobs near me, this platform is GOLD. Unlike sites that ask you to buy coins or pay high commissions, Shikshanest lets tutors sign up, list their services, and connect with students — absolutely free.
Why It Rocks:
✅ Zero commission ✅ Get local tuition leads (both online and offline) ✅ Build a profile with videos, reviews & experience ✅ Great for both individual tutors and coaching institutes
Whether you're a chemistry expert or a guitar teacher, this platform gives you visibility — without eating into your earnings. 🌟
📘 2. Chegg – For Those Who Love Problem Solving
Chegg is a household name in the edtech world. It’s a place where students go for textbook help and academic guidance — and you, the tutor, can earn by solving their queries.
Chegg Tutors is especially great for:
STEM subjects
Economics and Finance
Engineering and Physics
💰 The pay is decent, and the demand never seems to drop. However, getting selected might take some effort — they do vet tutors carefully.
🗣 3. Preply – Speak Your Way to Earnings
Are you fluent in English, Hindi, Spanish, or any other language? Then Preply could be your stage.
It’s a global language learning marketplace where you set your own rates and availability. Whether you're helping kids with grammar or adults prep for IELTS, Preply lets you teach via video calls from anywhere.
Pro tip: Add an intro video to your profile — it makes a HUGE difference! đŸ“č
🏠 4. UrbanPro – A Veteran Indian Platform (With Some Downsides)
UrbanPro has been around for a while and offers everything from academic tutoring to dance and yoga classes. Sounds great, right?
Well... sort of.
Tutors often complain about their "coin system" — which means you need to buy credits to contact students. It works, but it’s not as tutor-friendly as it could be.
Still, it has a huge student base and decent visibility, especially in metro cities.
📚 5. Wyzant – Great if You’re in the U.S.
Wyzant is a trusted tutoring site based in the U.S. It’s perfect for people who want to teach school or college-level subjects online.
Features include: ✔ Easy scheduling ✔ Secure payments ✔ Built-in classroom tools ✔ Lots of students looking for academic help
Just note: It’s mostly for U.S.-based tutors.
🧭 How to Choose the Right Platform?
Still confused about where to begin? Here's a quick cheat sheet 👇GoalPlatform Local Indian students Shikshanest STEM subjects Chegg Language teaching Preply All-round teaching (India) UrbanPro U.S. based or qualified Wyzant
🚀 Bonus: Tips to Stand Out as an Online Tutor
Here’s some real advice that’ll help you grow no matter which site you choose:
🌟 Build a clean, professional profile đŸ“č Upload an intro or demo class video 🗓 Be consistent with timings 🧑‍🎓 Offer free trial classes initially 📝 Ask for reviews from happy students
These small things go a long way in building trust and converting visitors into real clients.
🎉 Final Words: Your Time to Shine
We live in a world where geography doesn’t limit opportunity. If you can teach, if you can help someone understand better, the internet will reward you.
Start small. Pick one or two platforms. Build your brand. And most importantly — don’t be afraid to charge what you're worth. 💰
And if you're in India and looking for teaching jobs near me, I strongly recommend checking out Shikshanest — it’s made for teachers, by people who understand teaching.
Let’s build a smarter world, one lesson at a time. ❀ Happy tutoring!

I would be so good at macrodata refinement oh my god. I sort things by the subtle differences in how they make me feel on the daily and have been doing so for like ten years now. On Pinterest <3
Putting the finishing touches on my quals defense for tomorrow. I got pretty high praise from my two readers, but they also gave some pretty solid feedback. I also got some great feedback from the other graduate students who reviewed my presentation over a week ago. If there's one thing I've learned from these past two years of classes, it's that any science can be critiqued.
Today I'm thankful that my allergies appear to have subsided today. Yesterday was awful. Could hardly breathe and it took forever to get to sleep. Could barely think, even. I listened to a Night Vale episode last night for the first time in a while (probably since they took their break a few months ago) to help me go to sleep and it actually made me smile a lot. That was nice. Thankful for that.
I went on a walk this morning to two local craft stores in search of a soft DK cotton yarn (though people are using everything from fingering to DK for my intended pattern so I'll take what I can find tbh) in cream that I could use in my next big sweater project (a lovely lacy summer evening cardigan with a raglan construction). Joann had a perfect proprietary yarn for this (in the exact color I wanted, too), but I can't order any more online and I have no real way of getting to one of the stores (which are probably empty, anyway). There are other, farther yarn stores to check. I'm not enthusiastic about the prospect of ordering online, as I'm really sensitive to texture, and K&C was the best cotton I'd ever felt :/ Wish I'd ordered more back when I first heard of the bankruptcy.
I don't think I want to start right on that cardigan next though. I mean I think I've been procrastinating my cosplay stuff with the relatively straightforward knitting (stockinette in the round babyyyy), so I need to get back to devoting brainpower to that (I think I'm worried about messing up, but I have so much fabric to use for drafts (bought wayyyy too much for my halloween costume and also for the square-neck draft I made a few months ago (which I totally want to return to because it looks amazing and I think I'll be able to move forward with the actual plans I had for that pattern--replacing the dreadful fast fashion square-neck dress which is great in theory but leaves a lot to be desired in practice))), but I also think I would prefer a smaller, simpler yarn project before starting on something big.
It's really exciting to be able to create the things that will fill holes in my life. I have very few sweaters because I tend to be picky with texture and color and design. Now I know how to make them! I want to wear more vests, but knit ones for women that aren't oversized are somewhat rare, and the woven ones tend not to fit my bust. Not to mention that the fibers aren't always what I'd prefer. So I can make my own!
On my walk I happened across a street festival and it was really fun :) I discovered that Fleetwood Mac might be up my alley, so I'm going to listen to more of their music this summer, I think (I'm sure I've heard a bunch of their music before, but I'm only really familiar with "The Chain" which I love). Cool basslines in there, too.
Also thankful to live in a place where I can just happen upon events like that. Also also thankful that warmer weather means more of these events more often.
If I pass my defense tomorrow, I think I'm going to go to the local guitar store near me and buy a bass strap. Maybe I'll get one of the books I plan to use, if they have it. I'm really trying to buy local wherever possible nowadays, you know? I think that kind of thing is important. I also think that'll be a fun little way to celebrate.
Unfortunately, I will not be out of the woods, yet. Two problem sets due Friday and a final paper due next Monday (luckily, no classes to break up the time, so I can just grind them out). Then, of course, the exam a week and a half later. Hhhhh. But then done with classes. Since I didn't get the fellowship, I don't think I'm going to go for the CS minor :( I'd really like to, but I don't think it's possible reasonable on top of the fairly substantial teaching load I'm expecting this fall plus I still have research I want to get done. And I'm coming up on the deadline for declaring the minor, so. Yeah. Disappointing, but I may be able to find other ways to upskill that area. Workshops and things. Certificates and personal projects.
Also also also thankful that my defense is first thing in the morning tomorrow. So I go to bed and wake up and don't have to stress about it all day. Going to work more on the presentation now, then read my proposal again, then go to bed. Then skim the proposal again tomorrow. Then defend. I get to bring out my suit for the first time since I've moved out here!
Lastly, lowkey thankful for the rain. It should help to keep my allergies at bay for the next few days while I'm in crunch mode.
okay goodbye
[edit: also I saw a woodpecker for the first time today!]
[edit 2, several hours later: I am procrastinating because I am afraid. Doing well on this exam is so important to me, but in the eleventh hour, I feel frozen. I know I have more to do, and I know I want to get to bed, but I feel paralyzed right now.]
