Unexpected, But Not Unwelcome | Murdoc & GenderNeutral!Reader (Platonic)
Hiya there!!! Gosh, you're too kind! My heart is melting, thank you SO much, this really means the world to me. <3 <3 <3 Sure thing, I hope you like what I've come up with! :')
summary; Just like Helman taught Murdoc everything he knows, Murdoc has taught you. Even years later, you sometimes come together to update each other on things or even team up for a job.
notes; Gender Neutral!Reader; Platonic Relationship; Murdoc as a Father Figure; Assassins; Reader is Murdoc's (former) student; Assassination; Mention of Abuse; Murder.

At first, Murdoc had been anything but thrilled when he'd been told that you were his student now. An assassin in training. It wasn't that he didn't like teaching others; although he could think of at least ten better things to do than that, but the fact that they chose him just rubbed him the wrong way. He knew that they all thought he wasn't as disciplined as he should be. So they probably guessed that giving him someone to teach would change that. Well, he'd show them. He would be more than disciplined. He'd be so hard on you. You would be running for the hills after a couple of days.
Or so he had thought, at least.
Murdoc had certainly not expected to enjoy teaching you as much as he did. He had fun watching you train and seeing you get better and better each and every day. It made him proud. Not even of himself, but you. He grew to like you a lot, like you were his child, rather than his student. And wasn't that a dangerous territory? He couldn't afford to get attached to you.
The last time he'd gotten attached to somebody in the business, namely to Nicholas Helman, his own former teacher, Murdoc has gotten his heart broken by another person he deemed his father. He should have been over it by now; especially now that there was a big target on his back because of his killing Helman's wife. He didn't necessarily want to repeat any of that, and in reverse, too. Losing his figurative child sounded far worse than his father.
Nonetheless, he had a soft core, too soft at times, and so he let it happen anyway. He let it all develop and encouraged it when you looked at him with those big eyes and bright smile whenever he praised you for your work and called you something along the lines of ‘kid’, ‘peanut’, and similar things. He couldn't help himself.
Now, he was on his way to meet you. You had both received the same job a couple of days ago. The assassination of some rich guy that thought it was fun to abuse women. Unfortunately for him, one of them died and her parents wanted to avenge their daughter. Nothing unusual, really. Murdoc has had his fair share of those hits. Although normally he wouldn't even take money for those, but they had insisted on it, and he certainly couldn't complain about that, then.
Still, he felt like it was all just too good to be true when you had called him about the job and the two of you decided to team up and split the money, once the deed was done. It had been time for your usual get-together anyway, so you were able to combine it with the job.
“Hey, kid,” Murdoc greeted you with a smile, which you returned brightly as you went up to hug him shortly.
“Hi! Ready to kill an abusive asshole?” you asked, your grin turning sharp.
He nodded and guided you over to the place he’d picked out for you two to get a good shot on the guy.
Both of you set up your rifles and positioned them to point at the same window in two different points. One would go through his head and one through his chest. That was the plan you had decided on.
As soon as the man was in sight and he didn’t move for a little, you both shot him at the same time, killing him instantly.
Quickly, you packed up your guns and fled the scene.
“That felt good,” you giggled as Murdoc drove the car to get you two as far away as possible from what you had just done.
“Mhm, it did,” he agreed, smiling to himself. “It was a good shot, too. You’re getting better every time we see each other.” He looked at you and fixed you with a proud grin.
“Thanks, da- Murdoc. Thank you,” you responded, entirely too embarrassed at your almost-slip-up, which he’s detected as soon as it happened.
For a second, he couldn’t decide whether he should tell you that he saw you the same way, or if it wasn’t better if he didn’t say anything at all.
His mouth decided to act faster than his brain, though, and so he started talking, “It’s okay, pumpkin. I feel more like a father to you as well, in case that wasn’t painfully obvious already.”
Murdoc didn’t dare to look at you and so he kept looking straight ahead at the road.
“Oh, good,” you sighed in relief.
That was that, then. The first time either of you had voiced what this relationship between you two has become over the years. If anybody knew, they were sure to use that against you; and Murdoc truly hoped it never happened. He wouldn’t be able to forgive himself if something were to happen to you.
For the rest of the car ride, the two of you updated each other on your personal lives, other recent hits, and so forth. It was like it always had been, but it felt more intimate now. Murdoc felt like with finally acknowledging this whole father figure thing, the last barrier has been broken down, leaving you both vulnerable with one another.
But he couldn’t say that it was a bad thing.
