Hath No Fury

“Afraid I’ll redirect it?” 

The final words Katara knew she would hear him say. 

The simmering crackle of death followed swiftly. The electric white energy quickly built in the other girl’s fingertips. 

Its sheer power sundered the air as it released from her grasp.

Over.

It was over.

No one can outrun lightning.

Her body tensed, bracing for impact.

But she could not move, anchored in fear, or perhaps acceptance.

Then it happened.

He happened.

He who worked harder than any man should to win her trust.

He who started as an enemy.

Then an ally.

Then a friend.

Then something else.

Something more. 

He outran the bolt. He dove into its path. Did the impossible. 

For her.

She blinked, closing her eyes. She couldn’t watch it. Couldn’t bear it.

Every fight they ever had played out in instantaneous moments lasting minutes, hours, days in her mind. Anything to delay the inevitable.

She was weak. She was strong. He bested her. She bested him.

In the crystal cavern, their paths crossed, pasts reforged. In that cavern, they fought. In that cavern, neither won.

On an airy mountain cliff she derided, he pleaded.

On a distant sea, she trusted, and he supported.

On an island paradise, she forgave.

Somewhere between, he opened her heart.

He became more.

And now, he was giving everything. Everything for her. 

Giving her everything before she could return anything.

Crackling light flashed in her still-closed eyes, already filling with glistening tears, wet with fear. 

His body fell, energy coursing and crackling through. It lay motionless before her. Her inner turmoil screamed in anguish waiting for the deafening roar of thunder.

The thunder never arrived.

Her eyes flashed open.

The sundering of air had only just begun.

Her hands formed into fists that were not hers, feet slid into a stance she did not practice, together in a motion she did not know.

He dove before her, but her arms had already risen, solid anchored forms bestowing power yet unseen.

The ground began to quake.

She realized, in that blitz of motion, that her mind was not her own.

She was watching from afar, through a looking glass, as her body moved of its own accord.

It thought too quickly, too fully, too absolute to be her.

A sheet of crystal, perfect in its construction, erupted from the plaza in front of him, blocking the energy from ever reaching his form.

Another column of emerald pushed from the ground beneath her feet, carrying her into the sky.

She shouted then, in a voice that did not belong to her, “You will not take him from me! Not again.”

And with the power of her words, the ground quaked as though the mountain itself was waking from slumber. 

Her fists clenched in a rage she did know. 

Her heart raced. 

She could only observe what would come next. 

The other woman, standing in an awkward stance, hunched to one side began wide arcs of movement. But before she had the chance to make more than a quarter turn, Katara flicked her finger, and a shard of rock impacted her opponent’s wrist, ruining the stance. 

Still, her fists clenched, fury swirling within, and she felt it. The liquid answered her call. This feeling was familiar, one she was so intimately close with, she couldn’t deny it. It pulled and sloshed and coursed, the feeling brought comfort.

But when it arrived, she felt terror. 

A seething fury of unstoppable fiery death erupted forth from the ground across the plaza, launching rock and metal in its wake. She stepped forward from her perch with confidence she did not know she had.

A swirling tempest of molten rock met her fall and carried her back skyward. 

Acceptance.

This is who she was. This was who she is.

A voice still unknown to her shouted once more, “For your actions, I can never forgive you!”

Her molten wrath obeyed her command, streaming and pressing outward, warping and churning toward her prey. 

A voice, hardly a rasp broke through the raging anger of not her mind. “Katara, don’t…”

The hands that still were not her own paused, and the mountain fell silent. And with it, the lava froze into obsidian as it surrounded her opponent in a prison of shining black stone.

Carried by unfamiliar legs, she strode toward him with an unnatural speed. 

The voice belonging to another called softly to him. To he who perished saving her, if only in her mind. 

“I will lose you never again.”

She found her arms back under her control as they tightly wrapped themselves around his neck. 

Tears rushed again to her eyes, recalling what was almost. What nearly wasn’t, and she found her wavering voice under her own control once more. 

“I thought I lost you. Was going to lose you.”

Zuko’s eyes flashed green for but an instant, and a strong, confident voice that was not his answered.

“Never again, my love. Never again.” 

In the moment that followed, recognition flashed across their brows. He returned her embrace and she finally accepted that she longed for his touch, and he for hers. Their embrace tightened, unresolved for far too long. Apart for what seemed like forever.

Their hearts grew, remembering an ache, a familiar feeling, a distant memory. Their minds danced with the possibility. 

Their lips met. 

The possibility that it wasn’t true, sundered in an instant.

Together once more. 

At last. 

Their love was strong and they found their way.

What , Do you like About Zuko X Katara and Aang and Toph .

There are too many things I love about Zutara and Taang, I've probably talked about them in my previous posts a lot. But, there are some similarities between Zutara and Taang that I like.

Zutara and Taang look sooo good together, I mean, look at them!

2. Zutara and Taang donn't get along when they first meet, but later become very good friends and partners.

3. Zutara and Taang have opposite elements, but they are balanced and complement each other

"Fire is the element of power. The people of the Fire Nation have desire, will, and the energy to achieve their goals"

Katara has a fire inside her. She has power and always tries to achieve her will. She's not afraid to fight someone more skilled than her, such as Pakku and Hama. She is also not afraid of the Fire Nation soldiers when helping Haru and the villagers of Jang Hui River.

"Water is the element of change..."

Zuko has the water inside him. Zuko's main arc is redemption, he goes from being an enemy to being a good friend. He changes.

That shows how they can balance each other.

Also, I love how Zuko learns martial techniques from all the elements (he used them all in Agni Kai), but he often uses water techniques in the series.

"Air is the element of freedom"

Freedom is what Toph wants and needs. Aang offers Toph freedom. Aang is also Toph's first friend, she even tells Aang her feelings and shows him the abilities she hides from others.

"Earth is the element of substance"

Toph is the one who teaches Aang to be tough and stand his ground. That's all Aang needs to get out of his comfort zone.

That shows how they need each other.

Also, I love how Aang as the avatar can use all the elements, but earth is the element he uses the most after air.

4. Zutara and Taang have deep connection towards each other that build their chemistry.

Zutara are the reincarnation of Oma and Shu. The story, the symbols, even the colours of their clothes, all show the connection between Zutara and Omashu.

Aang and Toph have a connection, that's shown in episode The Swamps. In that episode, Huu explains how the swamps gives visions of people who are connected to someone.

Huu : In the swamp, we see visions of people we've lost, people we loved, folks we think are gone. But the swamp tells us they're not. We're still connected to them. Time is an illusion and so is death.

Sokka and Katara see a vision of their past, someone they've lost and they love most. Yet, Aang the only one who sees someone in the future.

But, how if Toph is actually someone in Aang's past? How if she is the reincarnation of Avatar Kuruk's lover?

I really love this theory!!!

And even if Toph isn't the reincarnation of Avatar Kuruk's lover, the swamp still show a connection between Aang and Toph when he sees the vision of her.

And they're still connected when Toph decided to live in the same swamp where Aang first sees her in her old days.

5. Zutara and Taang's disguise are matching. Zutara represent the spirit world meanwhile Taang represent physical world.

6. Zutara and Taang have similarities of how they meet the original source of their element.

Zuko and Katara never meet the original source of their elements until they set off their journey with the Avatar. And the way the Avatar meets them seem so magical.

Meanwhile, Aang and Toph have met the original source of their element and have been friend with them since they were little.

7. Zutara and Taang crumbs in NATLA make me love them even more!!! Look at them wore their colour!!

I can't wait to see them in the next season!

I'd like to think that in this universe as the fire nation started attacking the South Pole, a lot of the water benders chose to move out and either head North or go into hiding near the Earth kingdom.

Hence, I give you Lance Mcclain of Varadero, a small village located on the eastern beach of Kyoshi island.

Keith meanwhile comes from a line of Fire Nation rebels. His mom, Krolia is an upper member of the League of Marmora and has spent the past few years infiltrating the army and is currently a General who patrols the Earth Kingdom territory of Oma-Shu.

Keith also has a sister, Acxa, who has been traveling the world with the Fire Nation's exiled Prince, Lotor, while he searches for the Avatar.

Pidge meanwhile is from the swampy territory within the Earth Kingdom and can control the plants and mud rather than the earth itself.

Their father (An Earth Army weapons inventor named Sam) and brother (a drafted soldier named Mat) were captured by the Fire Nation a year ago and presumed dead.

Hunk is a farmer and cook who lives just outside Ba Sing Se. His family sells wheat and grain to the upper ring but on the weekend, he goes with his father to sell food in the lower ring.

General consensus from the antis (based on Twitter post I saw recently and the most recent episode of Braving the Elements) is that the Zutara Ship launched from The Crossroads of Destiny. Which kind of baffles me.  I always believed  that if not fully took root that at least the seeds were planted at the Cave of Two Lovers.  

but like…why was there a legend about forbidden lovers from warring peoples with a red and blue color motif who met in underground caverns lit by glowing crystals…and then a pivotal scene of rapprochement between zuko and katara that opens with them framed in the exact same standing/kneeling position as oma and shu and that takes place in an underground cavern lit by glowing crystals…if all that wasn’t supposed to mean anything??? like i’m just supposed to believe that was all a huge coincidence??? that they created this amazing parallel by accident??? that is the fakest news tbh

Hello, are you looking for a new atla ship? Sick of the ship wars? Consider with me, if you will, joining the zukaang fandom.

Do you like grump/sunshine trope? "I don't know why but I thought this thing would be a lot faster." "Appa's right Zuko, in our group, typically we start out our missions with a more upbeat attitude." "I can't believe this." - literally them.

Do you like the yin/yang trope? Zuko's flaw is literally his aggressive approach to his problems which is foiled by Aang's flaw of passive approach to his problems. They are the definition of yin and yang.

Do you like forbidden love? Even beyond the whole "Avatar and Firelord" thing, they both have to have bio children. They are tragic as hell if you want them to be.

Do you like excessive parallels and reading way too much into symbolism? The writers spent way too much effort in building the parallels between these two and there's always more to say about them.

Do you like shared trauma and similar backstories? They literally had an entire episode dedicated to showing how their backstories mirror eachother.

Do you like (lovingly) making jokes at Zuko's expense? What's better to tease him about than his absolute obsession with the avatar.

Do you like parallels to past lives? Zukaang has simularities with Sozin-Roku and Oma-Shu and there's even Kuzon.

Do you like m/m but never felt much connection for zukka? Zukaang is full of connection.

Do you like being canon but kataang just didn't do it for you? Zuko is literally quoted as being the person closest to Aang in his life and there's an official picture of them holding hands as adults and the culmination of the zukaang hug is iconic just like the kataang kiss. They're like an inch away from being canon.

Do you like enemies to lovers but zutara never caught your eye? Their inevitable friendship was built since book one when Aang asked if they could be friends.

Are you sick of antis? Zukaang has two (2) whole anti arguments: the age gap which is nothing between adults, and the idea that Aang is related to Zuko bc Roku was his great grandfather which doesn't make sense unless you consider Korra and Katara to be married. Beyond that people don't care.

Do you prefer small but active ship fandoms to the big name ship fandoms? Zukaang is right on the border, big enough to be plenty active but small enough to be free of drama and full of likeminded people.

some thoughts on netflix's adaptation of atla:

kiawentiio was done dirty cause she has so much of katara's bite and sass in her interviews

u can really tell the writing is the series' weakest point because the actors have what it takes to bring those characters to life but they'll only be able to do so much with the script and direction they're given

the wigs are SO ugly. yue had it the worst imo. she deserved better

Someone already mentioned this but would you be open to doing a very detailed au about Zutara x OmaShu reincarnation? It's one of my favorite things about Zutara

Zuko and Katara as reincarnations of Oma and Shu, respectively, is one of my absolute favorite AU/headcanons of all time, so obviously I had to so something about it. I don't know about it being very detailed, but toying with the idea is something I'd definitely be open to do from time to time!
