These are all the otome games I have for the Nintendo Switch!
Below you can read my hopefully brief rant about each game ☺️
I bought my first otome game (Collar x Malice) in 2020 during the pandemic. It’s interesting but I really struggled with it and I just don’t know why. Sasazuka and Kei are my favs <3 but sadly I’ve never done more than those 2 routes 😅
I bought Olympia Soirée on December 2022 and absolutely loved it! The concept was interested although a little silly at times and ironically enough it made me deep dive into Japanese mythology due to the story heavily mentioned Japanese deities. And I’ve never recovered from seeing Tokisada’s bad endings like I 😧
Jack Jeanne is THE BEST otome game (Sui Ishida my GOAT!!!) and I’m so happy I trusted my gut and bought the collectors edition - it made my Summer ‘23! I had the most fun playing the game and loved the rhythm game aspect plus the characters were just so amazingly written! Fumi and Sou-chan are my everything!
I bought Winter Wish on October 2023 and honestly don’t know when I’ll play it bc I impulsed bought it after I lost one of my pets (had to somehow get serotonin…) 😕 it’s a historical fiction amd that’s all I know about it so I’m most likely going to like it since I was OBSESSED with Hakuoki.
Bought Virche Evermore 3 days before released and I currently have 2 routes finished (Matthis and Lucas get behind me bby bois) - this game has me screaming and crying 😭 I heard so many otome fans say this was THE dark otome game to get into and saw so much hype when it was revealed for localization. I’m so glad I bought it last minute and now I’ll be searching for any merch online.
Black Friday crazed got me and I saw a physical copy of Radiant Tale in GameStop and although there was no sale - this game is litera sold out on AKSYS official shop soooooo had to get it 😩 I LOVE CIRCUS AESTHETIC AND I BLAME THE SHOW FREAKSHOW FROM AMC. Once I can start playing this game I’m immediately going for that clown boy and nothing will stop me😤
#nintendo#Nintendo pls keep supporting otome games#aksys#collar x malice#Olympia soirée#jack jeanne#winter’s wish#shuuen no virche#virche evermore#radiant tale#otome#otome games

I have now played two out of the four initial unlocked routes of Olympia Soirée, Tokisada and Yosuga. Under "Keep reading" because I might get spoiler-y as I write this.
Content warning: discussions of sexual scenes in the game
Tokisada's was my first route and took me a long time because I started it at the beginning of the year and then played kind of inconsistently throughout the year, not finishing until late this fall. Because of that, I'm having a hard time judging exactly how much I liked his story because even though the game flashes back on previous dialogue a fair bit when Byakuya is remembering something from before, because of the time it took me to finish this route I don't think I got into the flow of it as much as if I had been more consistent. Regardless, I still liked it. I thought from the start that Tokisada was pretty cute. He's younger than Byukuya, I believe, and his personality does seem a bit childish at times. Even though he and Byakuya have some cute moments, I wasn't always feeling the romance that strongly. I did like that she wasn't sure how she felt about him at first, because that felt believable even if I knew she would be in love with him at the end because I was in his route.
The good ending was nice, but I felt it ended kind of abruptly. I was kind of surprised when the credits were already started. This was before I figured out that the last three chapters in the archive were the two bad endings and the good ending epilogue, so part of that could have been because I was expecting more chapters than there really were.
And those bad endings? OOF! The bad ending where Byakuya gets drugged, kidnapped, and forced to sleep with Kaina (while thinking she's with Tokisada) had me going "EW!" and "WTF??!?!" Probably one of the worst bad endings I've ever seen in a game. I was laughing, though, even if I was also uttering the other aforementioned things. Tokisada's little interjection on the home menu made me go "Chill, this bad ending doesn't count I already got the good one!" But it's also sad to think of him feeling that way after that bad ending happens. The other bad ending was almost open-ended even though they are likely to drown. But it still didn't feel nearly as bad as the other one.
When I was picking my first route when I had started the game, I was trying to pick between Tokisada and Yosuga, so for my second route I went with Yosuga.
I had been pretty intrigued by him from before and I'm glad I played his route in a much shorter span of time. I'm glad the game gave me some reminding about things as it went along, because I still needed that, but I think I generally kept with the flow, though I kind of regret playing some pivotal scenes while riding the subway yesterday because my focus wasn't as good as when I'm at home. Like Tokisada having being an Outsider making him having something in common with Byakuya, who is from Tennyo Island, I thought it was interesting that Yosuga and Byakuya have in common that they are currently the only ones of their colours who are alive. His route had a pretty different vibe from the start, compared to Tokisada's route, and I enjoyed the sweet moments in those early chapters, like the scene under the cherry blossom tree.
The chapter where Yosuga takes Byakuya to Tennyo Island took the wind out of my sails, though, as did a few of their other love scenes throughout the route. Yosuga is portrayed as someone who is kind and cares about others, and yet his love scenes with Byakuya don't appeal to me. In the one on Tennyo Island, he acts like he is going to kill her and then force himself on her. Byakuya is in love with him, so even though he's threatening to violate her she doesn't fight back. This scene introduces a recurring theme in the love scenes that I really didn't like. Byakuya often says "no" to Yosuga in those scenes, but then they continue. I get that Byakuya feels scared and unsure about engaging in these acts with Yosuga, all the while finding herself wanting them, which is not something I have a problem with. But the fact that she is often saying "No" instead of "I can't" or "I shouldn't" just doesn't feel great to me and made it hard for me to enjoy these scenes much.
What I liked about the good end of the story is that Olympia takes charge in helping to make things happen. She makes demands that must be metin order for compromises to be made, using her power and status to work towards making her world better. Even in the bad ending where she is made to work as a sex worker in the bathhouse in order to win Yosuga's freedom, there is still that sense of conviction, and while a bit sad it didn't feel as sad as a bad ending could have been. The other bad ending where she grows to hate him had a kind of awkward CG (of Byakuya and Yosuga's oragasm faces?!??!?!) and I was going "What? Why?" the entire time. Yosuga's route was definitely more sexual than Tokisada's and I'm not sure I completely liked that. It was interesting that Yosuga became a shou at the end but I had difficulty with the lead-up to it.
After mixed feelings about purple boy Yosuga, who seems to be one of the more popular characters according to a Reddit poll I saw, I think I will next be moving onto Riku's route. Looking forward to following another route with a sword-wielding guy.

This was supposed to be for @asususasa but in the middle of writing I thought this could be useful for someone else, so here's Tacky's general list of otome recs. It took me over an hour to write so I'm not proofreading it.
DS
Not much to say here because back in those days otome games didn't get localized. The stand outs are Tokimeki Memorial Girl's Side 1st Love Plus and Tokimeki Memorial Girl's Side 2nd Season, who have English fan translations. Slice of life games where you play as the protagonist through her three years of high school. And if you feel like a student-teacher romance that would make Sakura Kinomoto's mom proud, these are your games.
PSP
Still well into the no localizations era with one exception: Hakuouki Demon of the Fleeting Blossom. Not recommending it on PSP because there are better versions. Tokimeki Memorial Girl's Side 3rd Story Premium also has a fan translation and should be played over its DS counterpart because it has added functionalities. Sadly this time around the teacher is a secret character and a shota.
3DS
There's Hakuoki Memories of the Shinsengumi. Still not recommended because we can do better.
PS3
Hakuouki Stories of the Shinsengumi includes the original game and the fandisk with some neat animations added. This is the version to play if you want the original experience. If you want even more routes, go for another version.
Vita
Hakuoki Kyoto Winds and Edo Blossoms, Collar x Malice and Amnesia are the best games you can get for the Vita imo. Some people dig a lot the Psychedelica of the Ashen Hawk and Psychedelica of the Black Butterfly (I've only played BB, it was good but wasn't the best; wouldn't rate it as high as the others). There's Code Realize and its two fandisks (Future Blessings and Wintertide Miracles) and many people swear by them, but while I liked the common route in the first game, the rest didn't do it for me. You can find all of these except CxM and the CRs on Steam, and the Hakuoki games get dirst cheap on sale. Best bang for your buck of the saga. The CR games have PS4 ports and CxM has a Switch one, which you already know.
Switch
*rolls up sleeves* LET'S GO.
To get it out of the way: Hakuouki KW and EB are getting a Switch rerelease and a new translation and will be released as a single game, Hakuoki Chonicles of Wind and Blossom, on August 1st.
Collar x Malice fucking nails the mystery and lowkey horror vibes with and excellent plot that's interconnected in every route. CxM Unlimited is its fandisk and only recommended if you really have the CxM itch, because it's mostly fluff and the little plot there is is at most functional. It has a route where Ichika joins Adonis and you get to see its inner workings though. That was very interesting.
Bustafellows is 100% found family vibes with a very assertive protagonist. It's a mystery/action story and the team dynamics are sort of Ocean's 11-ish. Hilarious, heartbreaking at times, I've never felt more dread in a game than heading towards the basement in a certain's guy's route. There are two unlockable stories after you finish the routes of the guys, one of which I thought was glorious, another which sets up a sequel and is a big downer but I also really liked. It gets heavy at times with murder, suicide, sexual assault, human trafficking, among other kinds of violence, but despite it, it's generally a very funny and upbeat game. We're getting the sequel next year. Also available on PC.
Café Enchanté baits you with the premise of being a girl who manages a coffee shop patronized by handsome supernatural beings, so it's a real surprise when the cannibalism shows up. Anyway. Great game, but I'm afraid saying more would kind of defeat the point. Reminds me of Megami Tensei games, so if coffee shop AUs with supernatural world-ending threats are your thing, go for it. Just be warned that the fandom has kind of collectively agreed that poster boy's route never happened.
Birushana is a hidden gem that goes on sale super cheap and is also probably a hit or miss thing. You play as the legendary Yoshitsune, who in this game is a girl disguising her gender, but she's an amazing warrior as in history. It has the best otome couple I've ever seen, bar none, with Yoshitsune and Noritsune. The game is worth the price just to see them fall in love on the battlefield and watch Noritsune chug down Respect Women Juice all the way through it. The thing is... the rest of routes aren't great. Don't get me wrong, I enjoyed how utterly unhinged they got at times, but the plot got worse as it deepened. Still. Noritsune. And I loved that most of the guys respected her as a warrior and were aware she was as capable or a better warrior than them and she didn't need a man to protect her. Very refreshing. One of my faves got done dirty by the translation because they started pulling lines out of thin air to make him creepier. Just him. Why. It's not like he needed the help.
Virche Evermore Error Salvation is also a good one if you can handle continuous drama and see egregiously bad science and say, "You know what? It's magic. Humans in this world are just built different." The worldbuilding is really interesting and the characters very enjoyable, though they don't feature a lot in each other's routes or aren't that friendly with each other. The continuous tragedy may tire you out, or maybe it'll work and emotionally destroy you. It didn't get any emotional reaction out of me until a certain point near the end, but I enjoyed the game a lot, nevertheless. We're getting the sequel this November and I'm really looking forward to it.
Variable Barricade: a fun romp where a young heiress has to chose a fiancé among the four disaster bachelors her grandpa has selected. It's not really similar to Ouran, but it reminded me a little of it at times. It's a pretty light game. The BFF is a gothic lolita otaku who has the time of her life shipping you with the guys, and the butler... oh boy the butler.
Amnesia, as I mentioned earlier, has a PC port as well as the Vita version, as well as two localized fandisks for the Switch (Amnesia x Crowd) that I can't speak of because I haven't played them yet. The protagonist has supernatural amnesia and must piece together her life while avoiding that other people realize she's lost her memory. It's a super intriguing game the first time you play, really nailed the being completely and utterly lost in the protagonist's shoes. A required play to get in on the cage jokes. It's sort of a rite of passage for otome gamers.
Jack Jeanne has probably the best group dynamics of any otome I've seen. I think some people have issues with the protagonist because they find her passive, but to me she felt the complete opposite. Everybody is adorable. A sentimental story of hard work, being young and and fighting for your dreams, 10/10, no notes. I lied, there's a note: Tanakamigi deserved a route! Where is our Tanakamigi route! щ(゜ロ゜щ)
Last but not least at all, the two Piofiores. Mafia games where all trigger warnings you can think of apply. Well, maybe not the cannibalism, that's still Café Enchanté's crowning glory. Fated Memories, the first one, has its ups and downs, but has very enjoyable characters, rock-solid worldbuilding, an amazing atmosphere set in 1920s Italy with a jazzy soundtrack that ends up living rent free in your brain. The last routes of the first game, Gil's and Finale, are worth the full price of the game alone. Piofiore Episodio 1926 is a masterpiece of the otome genre. It doesn't have a single boring route, and the final stretch (Advent Calendar-Alternativa-Secret Character route) has the best writing I've seen in an otome. Lots of points of view and situations interconnecting, an excellent final couple, top notch interactions between the main characters. Just the best.
#honorable mention to olympia soirée the most heterosexual otome i've ever played#i felt a visceral rejection towards it so i cannot recommend it#but i acknowledge it's a great game if you don't mind the constant talk of reproducing#tacky ramblings

[Olympia Soirée: Catharsis] 🌌 Tonight, With you— - Yosuga
<Original post here>
・゚・:,。★ translation under the cut ★,。・:・゚
Good evening. Did I surprise you?
I thought it might be nice to sneak you a visit once in a while. I slipped out of Yomi since the sun's gone down.
Won't you let me inside?
Is what I'd like to say. However...
The moon is beautiful tonight, so why don't we go across to Tennyo Island?
I've grown quite fond of that place. It's a spot where we can be alone without anyone disturbing us.
That's right... I don't want anyone else to step foot on that land.
Won't you take me there? Thank you. Let's take the boat out then.
Let's stay there for a long time... just kidding. I still have some bookkeeping to do, and you have work too, so let's stay until tomorrow morning.
But tonight... let me spoil you all night.
Allow me to dye your beautiful, pearl-hued hair in my colour.
Let me make sure... that you're mine and mine alone.
---
[DO NOT USE OR REPOST MY WORK W/O PERMISSION, THANK YOU]

Are there any otome games you would recommend?
// Hmm… I’d recommend these ones but keep in mind that some of the games presented here are really dark and treated in a more serious manner than DL, so if you got any problem with that, don’t buy them.
For starters, I feel like Code:Realize is a good game, because all love interests are likeable, it has a good plot and romance, and the heroine is amazing. If you’re into “light-hearted” games, you should play Radiant Tale, Cupid Parasite and Variable Barricade as well!
If you like games with some steamy moments, Olympia Soirée is for you! Despite those, I really like the world building and characters, plus Olympia is just soooo cute. She deserves being the eponymous character uwu. Contains some really shocking scenes but anywayyy. Another spicy yet intriguing game I like is Tengoku Struggle and yeah, that one got some triggers too, but I personally found it enjoyable overall.
How can I NOT mention Piofiore here? As far as I’ve seen, it’s currently one of the biggest otoge out there. The love interests are very interesting, yet they’re not necessarily good people and will do a lot of messed up stuff, therefore don’t play it if you’re into pure white princes. Some very sensitive and realistic themes are discussed there but if it helps, the cgs are stunning and I love how Lili changes her outfits and hairstyles so often!
If you love angst, tragedy, gore and despair, then play Black Wolves Saga, Virche and Moshikami. I won’t dwell on details for obvious reasons. xD
Other games I liked are Collar x Malice, Taishou x Alice, Ozmafia and Amnesia, but I feel like everyone already knows these ones, lol.

i was talking to my bf about olympia soirée and a dialogue happened that I instantly reminded of this Lucille meme.
I was like “I like all the characters in the game”
him “really? all of them?”
and I was like “yeah!”
I went silent and then 10 seconds later
“meh, I don’t really give a f*ck about Himuka”
