My 2023 in retrospect...
Well, that year is almost over. Here's my story of 2023.
This year marked the 30th Anniversary of my time at the Surrey Downs Child Care Centre which I didn't like a little at first as I felt like a prisoner but I soon got the hang of it later. Also, my first video game, 'Super Mario All-Stars' for the SNES hit store shelves 30 years ago too but didn't get it until Christmas a year later at that time.
In January, I went to the St Kilda Mangrove Boardwalk for the first time in many years. It looked a bit different compared with last time I looked.
In February, I got a Lightburn Zeta coffee mug and saw a show at the Garden Of Unearthly Delights all by myself for the first time in my life! Then later, I saw Luke Million perform music from his first album 'Gina The Synth Cat' on his handy keytar! Then at the end, I got lucky and managed to grab one of his drumsticks! From a shop in Chinatown, I bought a Pikachu-design bathroom spout extension which slides onto most horizontal spouts!
In March, I got my Knight Rider Historians tee-shirt showing the GMC Prime Mover & Trailer which is now currently being restored. Went to the new TK-Maxx store at Churchill Centre in Kilburn and tried both 'Bard' & 'Barbarian' burgers from Carl's Jr who have teamed up with the board game based film, Dungeons & Dragons: Honor Among Theives. After a remarkable 25 Years, Ash Ketchum's quest to become a true Pokemon Master came to an epic conclusion with the callback mini-series, 'Aim To Be A Master'. He and Pikachu came a long, long way together through the low times and the high. We still saluted him, celebrated him and praised him like we should.
In April, I went to a LEGO exhibit at the Museum Of Adelaide, then to a car show at Echunga Oval and then to an Easter carnival on Ridley Reserve. Bought the LEGO Icons 'Land Rover Defender 110' which is considered to be my best one for 2023 with working suspension, steering and the ability to tow! I even built a trailer to go with it!
In May, I took a time-lapse video of a Wisdom 'Sizzler' ride being setup for the first time in my life! Built a LEGO model of the gas heater we used to have in the lounge room until 2007. Went on a few tram rides at the St Kilda Tramway Museum.
In June, went to the Model Railway Exhibition in Angle Park. Then went on a few buses during a 'Farewell Tour' of the MAN NL202 fleet.
In July, I put 'Richard Stevens Hire' decals on my blue LEGO trailer as a nod to the days before Kennards came to South Australia! The old streetlights on our street were upgraded to LED. Saw the 'Barbie' movie at Hoyts. Brixpo was way better than ever, so was AVCon!
In August, The St Kilda Tramway Museum had a showcase of old buses. Then I went to the Gawler Show.
In September, Went to the Royal Adelaide Show and saw a small ex-John Martins semi trailer which was owned by one of the amusement companies. The supposed Masters Home Improvement store in Noarlunga is now being converted to Bunnings after sitting unused for quite some time. My grandmother Ann Smith turned 90 and we celebrated her birthday at the main hall in her aged care village. Took a hike in Cobbler Creek Recreation Park and I was exceptionally lucky to avoid getting bitten by a snake which could've cut my life short. Then I finally advanced onto my full driver's license and had a beer at the Old Spot Hotel in commemoration of the 15th Anniversary of my first 'legal drink'.
In October, The former house of 'The Owens' (i.e. my mother's parents) was put up for sale. Had a discussion with an NDIS employee at the Disabilty, Ageing & Lifestyle Expo at the showgrounds. Then for the first time in almost 13 years, looked around in the Roseworthy Agricultural Museum and went on some rides at the Roseworthy Miniature Railway Club! Went to the Tonsley Hotel in Clovelly Park to have a meal before it closed its doors to be redeveloped for the T2D Infrastructure Project. The former Red Rooster building at Harbor Town in West Beach was finally demolished after TEN YEARS! Then I went to the National Motor Museum for the 'Bay To Birdwood' car showcase!
In November, Went to the first ever Tiny Homes Expo at the Adelaide Showgrounds. Ingle Farm Shopping Centre changed its name to Ingle Farm Plaza and the old 'wind pump' signboards had to be removed and replaced with generic rectangular ones. Went to the Skye Lookout for a lovely view of the city and its surroundings. Bought the new Jazwares 'Train & Play Deluxe Pikachu' from Toyworld! I just couldn't resist it.
In December, I went to the new entertainment complex in the former Harris Scarfe floors of Rundle Place. Received my 1/43 Scale Knight Rider FLAG Rig from a seller in Portugal but was in a few pieces so I had to gorilla-glue them back on. Also did a repair to a LEGO Fabuland plane set as the left-side exhaust pipe was in two pieces when I bought it from a shop in Cowell. Went on Adelaide's first ever BEB (Battery-Electric Bus) on Route 99C for the first time in my life! For Christmas, I got the new LEGO Chevrolet Corvette!

Adelaide is Australia's fifth largest city
Adelaide is the only major metropolis in the world to have its city centre Adelaide, The CBD from across the Torrens River at Australia Adventurescompletely surrounded by parkland. Today, driving along King William Street towards the Torrens, the layout of this city is immediately evident. Are you a BIG lover of 2023 Nude Calendars, find a big collection of 2023 Nude Calendars here.
Past the Adelaide Oval, considered by many one of the finest-looking traditional cricket grounds in the world, you cross the Torrens River to arrive at North Terrace. (For children, a trip on Popeye, a launch that plies the river from near the Festival Centre to the Adelaide Zoo, is a great outing.) This tree-lined boulevard has many fine buildings: Government House, the State Library, the South Australian Museum, the Art Gallery of South Australia (which contains the larges collection of Aboriginal artifacts in the world and Adelaide University. A little further along, past the Royal Adelaide Hospital, are the Botanical Gardens and the State Herbarium, begun in 1855. These gardens include the oldest glasshouse in an Australian botanical garden, and the only Museum of Economic Botany; the Conservatory contains a tropical rainforest. The the west of King William Street is Parliament House, completed in 1939; a little further along, in what once was the Adelaide Railway Station is the Adelaide Casino.
Continuing along King William Street you come to Rundle and Hindley Streets - the former is the shopping heart of Adelaide, the latter is the night spot centre - then the town hall. A little further south is Victoria Square, with lawns and
 a fountain, the terminus for the Glenelg tram, and the clock tower of the GPO. King William Street continues to South Terrace, where gardens and parks, including the rose garden and conservatory and the Himeji Gardens (a traditional Japanese garden), make up the southern perimeter of the city proper.
Being so close to the Barossa Valley and the wineries of the Vales to the south, it is no wonder that Adelaide boasts more restaurants per capita than any other city in Australia. Hindley and Rundle Streets in the heart of the city, Gouger Street, close to Victoria Square, and O'Connell and Melbourne Streets in North Adelaide are the best places to go.
Glenelg, on the coast just 10 km from the city centre, and a city in its own right, is the summer playground for Adelaide residents and visitors - the larges amusement park in the State, and many restaurants, are here. Port Adelaide, 25 minutes west of the city, is home to the South Australian Maritime Museum, the Historic Military Vehicles Museum, and the South Australian Historical Aviation Museum, among others. Here you can also cruise on an old sailing ketch, or take a steam train ride along the old Semaphore Railway.
The beaches south of Port Adelaide (including Glenelg) are ideal places to swim and many have a jetty where kids and adults can dangle a line. Further south the beaches are even better; surfers love the breaks in and around Christies Beach, Moana and Seaford. For divers there are the reefs and marine sanctuaries at Port Noarlunga or at Aldinga. The nearby Mount Lofty Ranges offer other nature experiences - seeing native animals close up at Cleland Wildlife Park, picnics and day bushwalks at Belair National Park, and rock climbing at Morialta Falls Conservation Park.
Any mention of Adelaide must include reference to its major international festival, the Adelaide Festival, held in March; artists from around the world come to perform here. There are a host of other festivals and events, including Adelaide Fringe Festival in February, the Oakbank Racing Carnival in April, the Royal Adelaide Show in late August/early September, and the International Rose Festival in October. In the Adelaide Hills, the Barossa Valley or down along the Fleurieu Peninsula there are many other festivals.
For the history buff there are the Mortlock Library of historical material, the Migration and Settlement Museum and the South Australian Police Museum, and the SA Theatre Museum, a magnificent complex of halls and theatres.

I finally managed to make the visit to @victorsplace.mclarenvale to taste their beers and sample their food. The name, Victor’s Place, is an ode to their local area and the fact that they support produce all the way to Victor Harbour and surrounds. They are equals parts brewery, kitchen and winery with all three aspects of the business meticulously planned and executed. The food was superb, matched with the views of rolling hills of Old Noarlunga. I quite enjoyed the saison and IPA, so took them home in a can via their canning machine. The building is steeped with history, with the restoration definitely challenging owners Alan and Kathrin. Thank you for the warm welcome and hospitality today, I will be back for sure. https://www.instagram.com/p/BoVtStll5LH/?utm_source=ig_tumblr_share&igshid=7ohggbqkxoy3

A new year and a great way to kick it off is to get some new family portraits done. I will be at Market Square Reserve at Old Noarlunga on the 16th of January from 10am to 4pm (dependent entirely on the number of bookings I get) doing family portraits at the very special price of $75 per family and $25 from every shoot will be donated to South Adelaide Black Dog Ride. Normally these shoots are $195 so this is an absolute bargain! Each family gets a 30 minute timeslot and if you miss it – sorry. You get a photo of the kids. You get a photo of the adults. You get a photo of all of you together. All images supplied via email in high resolution suitable for printing up to A3 in size. What’s the catch? You agree that I get to use the photos of the adults on my website and for promotional purposes and will sign a release on the day for me to do so. No, I won’t use photos of your kids! (I understand that some people are sensitive about photos of their kids so it’s easier for me to just not use any of them) Spots are limited so make sure you book in quick. $25 deposit required to secure your spot and the balance in cash, on the day. Message me with any questions or to book. (at Old Noarlunga, South Australia) https://www.instagram.com/p/CJsTcIUjctQ/?igshid=1i4fyqklgfckf

UNWOUND
Tumblr media
Wall text from the exhibition: UNWOUND, Paloma Concierta 2017.
Spanish slate skirts the interior of Sauerbier House, [1*]
(that was once the roof of the Port Noarlunga Life Saving Club);
The blackboards and their linear condensing of geography
into dark portraits of chance and voyage;
The external lines of the reflective copper strips
that prefer the Western aspect;
The ‘Unwound’ soundscape that uses the house itself
as an instrument to create a zone of contemplation;
The wool-wound old teak bowls that conceal and reveal
simultaneously, of Tree, of Sheep, of Hand
and the organic mathematics of human error
that is also present in nearby pastures and conversations;
The German piano on the verge faces a choir of She-oaks,
back to the house, no longer permitted to sing amongst natives
- he still-calls in delimited shapes from the levy wall
to the  fruiting harp of the  ‘Woman’s River’,
the Nganki  Paringa River, The Onkaparinga River,
in Kaurna Yerta:
All these things are part of what I call
The Palette of my Location.
Sauerbier House. PC 12.9.17
 The palette of my particular location.
           On this day, 2 years ago....
I welcomed the first day of spring
in a similar frame of mind.
How seasonal the mind is.
           It responds to location
not only with the material
we touch and make Matter;
but also with the focus and colour
of our thoughts.
             This morning I saw the distant ranges,
across a field of what would be oats
And they were slightly lighter in green,
with a multiplied shimmer
of sour dropped heads
Rejected by the graze.
 Some small things
are just burning,
to grow
While others long for the bulb of sleep
that helps leaves long enough
to fall, without a loss
             Art breathes in and out its own cycle
of intakes and externalisations.
           The trauma and longing
of love and questions:
             This anthem of breath wrestled thoughts
Is set to grieve and pulse against that matter,
And, as much as time is known,
to be relative to place,
Art, is in relation to this matter,
held in hand, a moment
now defined by this palette
of my own particular location.
 I guess that's why
I cannot be
just a painter,
anymore.

Sauerbier House
———————————
1*
This Spanish slate which was previously on the roof of the Port Noarlunga Lifesaving
Club and was salvaged by local Welshman Ken Davies and gifted it to Lisa Harms (whilst she was the first Artist/Writer in Residence Sauerbier House 2015-2016). She then passed some of this slate to Concierta along with this information. Ken Davies is a recent recipient of a State Heritage award for his master-craftsman skills which were presented at Sauerbier House August 2016. Harms connects the Welsh heritage of Emily Gwendoline Sauerbier (nee Davies) with the place for which Sauerbier house was named Llanfairfechan (a seaside village not so far from Bangor slate quarry in Wales).
Llanfairfechan was the previous name of Sauerbier House.
