Old Man's Child - Black Seeds on Virgin Soil

The Pagan Prosperity degli Old Man’s Child, pur rientrando in un periodo storico nel quale raramente le band black metal norvegesi componevano male, rappresenta questa piccolissima percentuale. Riascoltato anche più volte a distanza di anni, sperando nell’effetto dell’invecchiamento e della ri-contestualizzazione, non cambia il risultato di una volta. Pagan Prosperity è un mix di thrash-black metal con pochi riff ispirati e votato ad una certa violenza regalata dalla batteria, sempre in primo piano. C’è spesso spazio per un dinamismo da parte del basso per nulla scontato da parte di un genere di metal estremo come questo. I synth compaiono e scompaiono più che altro per enfatizzare gli accenti e ogni tanto emergono questi assoli quasi da power-metal band.

In Born of the Flickering la componente chitarristica era molto meglio amalgamata (ricordo con piacere le chitarre acustiche quasi flamenco) mentre qui a volte pare di sentire gli scarti dei Children of Bodom (”My Demonic Figures”). Che poi, non ci sarebbe niente di male: i Cradle of Filth, gli stessi Bodom o i Catamenia ci hanno fatto conoscere un black metal melodico e dipendente dagli Iron Maiden ma qui l’impressione è che Galder tiri fuori in maniera quasi casuale le combinazioni della composizione. Mi interesserebbe capire quanto Jardar abbia partecipato alla composizione visto che rimarrà negli Old Man’s Child per altri tre album ma, allo stesso tempo, l’idea di un Galder deus ex-machina si staglierà sempre più forte di album in album. Negli anni successivi sono sempre stati identificati con la brutta copia dei Dimmu Borgir a causa di alcuni membri in comune, di alcuni studi di registrazione, di scelta di produzione e di produttore e di sonorità… tutto in comune ma con la piccola differenza che Galder e soci sono sempre arrivati dopo Shagrath. L’unico modo per giustificare questa dipendenza è stato, da parte di Galder, quello di entrare come membro fisso nei Dimmu Borgir nel 2001 quasi per giustificare la scarsa dedizione nel songwriting nel suo progetto originario.

hey btw if you're in the USA at  2:20 p.m. ET on Wednesday, Oct. 4, they're testing the emergency broadcast system. your phone is probably going to make a really loud noise, even if it's on silent. there's a backup date on the 11th if they need to postpone it.

if you're not in a safe situation and have an extra phone, you should turn that phone completely off beforehand.

additionally, if you're like me, and are easily startled; i recommend treating it like a party. have a countdown or something. be surrounded by your loved ones. take the actions you personally need to take to make yourself safe.

i have already seen mockery towards any person who feels nervous about this. for the record, it completely, completely valid to have "emergency broadcast sounds" be an anxiety trigger. do not let other people make fun of you for that. emergency sounds are legitimately engineered to make us take action; those of us with high levels of anxiety and/or neurodivergence are already pre-disposed to have a Bad Time. sometimes it is best to acknowledge that the situation will be triggering for some, and to prepare for that; rather than just saying "well that's stupid, it's just a test."

"loud scary sound time" isn't like, my favorite thing, but we can at least try to prevent some additional anxiety by preparing for it. maybe get yourself a cake? noise cancelling headphones? the new hozier album? whatever helps. love u, hope you're okay. we are gonna ride it out together.

Arthur starts out as an insufferable spoiled brat who falls madly in love with his mouthy servant. So madly in love that he risks his life time and again to save Merlin. Thankfully, Merlin’s an oblivious idiot. Unfortunately, the people around him are not. So while Merlin doesn’t notice that Arthur’s so in love with him he can’t function, everyone else is like “he’s so in love with you, he’d die for you” and Merlin’s like “nah, he’d do that for anyone. He’s just like that.”

And now, sweating bullets, Arthur has to start risking his life for peasants and anyone in danger like he’s truly noble, or Merlin’s gonna figure out that he’s in love with him.

Literally, Arthur experienced so much character growth to keep himself in that closet when he could of just said, “Nope, it’s you Merlin. I don’t give a flying fuck about anyone else.”

So erm, Danny might’ve fallen through a portal. And might have no clue where he is right now. 

He fell into an alleyway! Right into a dumpster! Which isn’t the worst thing he’s fallen into but still. Ew. Well, Dad should be able to find him and bring him back home! …Right? 

He shakes out his itchy fur and scales, already impatient and bored in the single alley despite it only being a few minutes. What’s a realms hatchling to do but explore? Well, besides taking care of his shed, but it’s too dry where he is anyway. Maybe he’ll find a lake! 

Hm. He can’t understand what anyone is shouting or freaking out about. It’s like they’ve never seen a dragon or something, geeze! Oh well, he’s on his way to find water, he’s not built for the desert…
