I’m so tired here are some assorted Disventure Camp headcanons:
•Jake is really into poetry. Some of his poems are bangers, some of them are absolute dogshit. He posts some of them online, mostly the bad ones because he’s not self-aware of how bad they are. He will spend hours on end writing in his notes app. Guy is a big fan of sonnets and free verse but his strong suits are odes and villanelles
•Rosa María, James, Yul, Lake, Riya, Fiore, and Alec are all multilingual. Rosa speaks English and Spanish, James speaks Portuguese and English, Yul speaks Korean and English, Lake speaks German and English as well as some French, Riya speaks Hindi and English, Fiore speaks English and some Italian, and Alec speaks English as well as a variety of other languages (he did a minor in linguistics for his university degree so he knows the basics of multiple major languages).
•Hunter’s a competitive chess player. Ally’s the only person who’s ever beat him fair and square, but even then, that rarely happens
•Lake is great at baking. She’s incredibly exact when it comes to measurements, timing, and technique. Rosa, meanwhile, is a great cook and she doesn’t measure anything
•Aiden can play bass guitar. He started learning as a teenager because he wanted to join an emo band one day. Chase your dreams boy
•Yul used to have braces and he’s really embarrassed about it
•Gabby’s a forager, she loves to forage for wild fruit and mushrooms and greens
•Ellie’s kinda a ghoul in the kitchen. Like she can make good food and drinks but most of the time she’s so tired that she makes evil energy drink-instant coffee potions or like that pistachio & condensed milk concoction from Arthur
•In a better universe I think Ellie and Jake are frenemies instead of fully hating each other and they play Minecraft together and Ellie is constantly stealing Jake’s shit and trying to defeat the Ender Dragon meanwhile he screams every time he sees a Creeper and begs her to turn Keep Inventory on because he keeps dying
•Miriam gets a cat after the show. She’s an older white cat named Snowball and she has the same personality as her. They are best friends and Miriam is so annoyed by her. She made them matching sweaters. Snowball is only fully nice to Jake
•Fiore listens to Thrash Metal. It’s partially just to throw people off when they find out, she thinks it’s funny
•Fiore also enjoys those YouTube prank videos, she knows they’re fake they’re just so stupid that she finds them hilarious. Kristal gives her an iPad for a day one time for entertainment and it pisses the rest of the Magenta team off so bad because she keeps playing these prank videos and watching epic fail compilations at full volume
•Grett loves crocheting. She slowly turns into one of those people who crochets during lectures and while watching movies and shit
•James is really good at Tetris
•Ally is obsessed with Sci-Fi. She, Tess, and Hunter watch Star Trek, Doctor Who, and Star Wars together because they all love the worldbuilding so much. Tess writes fanfiction about almost everything they watch. Hunter has terrible media literacy and misses the themes every time but he has fun watching
•After All Stars, Riya gets really into tattoos. She gets matching ones with Connor
•People antagonize Tom with the cop slide video and every time he clenches his fist and goes, “Stop laughing at him.”
•Kai has a bunch of pet bugs. Maggy’s secretly afraid of them still but she’s getting there. She likes rollie pollies
•Karol used to do roller derby and Lill used to ice skate. Ggirlf, riends,,, I miss them chat. Where is my old woman yuri
•Aiden eats plain yogurt nothing on it and it’s the one thing James doesn’t like about him. Like it’s so upsetting to him. Why does he eat plain yogurt
•Ashley likes hyperpop, don’t tell anyone
•Tom likes crockpot food. He is not invited to potlucks for this reason. He will always bring the crockpot
•Alec doesn’t like splatter films but he really enjoys psychological horror, especially mockumentaries and mondo films
•Lake read creepypasta a lot as a kid and she wouldn’t go into the kitchen after dark because she was afraid of Jeff the Killer appearing at her fridge

One of the things I didn't expect to find myself in while going down a semi-deep search of Les Misérables adaptations, was to find myself having been fooled by obvious British propaganda. Of course with this revelation, I have to undo its damage by educating myself, but more importantly, this is about the portrayal of the Quit India Movement (1942-5) from Kundan, released in 1955.
I know many of the people who interact with me online are not British (lucky you), I do want to explain what the misleading education is for us in the education system: no mention of India.
When we talk about the British Empire, it was very brief and not a proper topic to be questioned on, etc. Of course, with this knowledge of the gigantic holes in education, one wouldn't be surprised to know that we were not officially taught of India, Bangladesh, and Pakistan. (We also weren't taught of other countries under the Empire.)
One of the very few things we were given were quotes from leaders who 'liberated' India, by saying that the British were so moved by the peaceful protests, that we let them go. This is harmful thinking, and obviously not true.
For the longest time, I thought the way it was phrased was wrong and that the leaders were racists still; however I never questioned the contents of the words. That yes indeed it was a completely peaceful protest (with no civil disobedience either), and only from watching a Hindi movie about the protest movement was I able to find out that this was way further from the truth than I imagined.
There were fights, guns, smokes, arson, flogging: violence. It was a protest. A successful protest which violence played a role in.
India fought long, and very long they officially fought and argued with the Brits for better treatment, and they fought hard. That's something I will try not let swept under the rug. (Not to mention that the Empire stole tens of trillions of pounds from India and then subsequently fractured the country.)
It's art like these which wakes people up from propaganda. Art is also educational.
I know this can be frustrating (and obvious in its conclusion) to read this post if you knew about basic recent Indian history, but I am truly trying to learn and undo the colonial mindset that I was brought up in when I moved to England. I've linked sources for others like me who may not have encountered educational materials surrounding the Quit India Movement, so if anyone is interested, click the 'keep reading' button.
Anyways, if you know me you already know Kundan is my favourite on-screen adaptation of Les Misérables; but jic this reaches to people outside of my small audience in a big stroke of luck, then yeah, I want to reiterate that this adaptation is goated. Have a nice day, everybody.
Have a read:
https://southasia.ucla.edu/history-politics/gandhi/quit-india/
"Women were prominent in the Quit India Movement that began in 1942. When the movement spread to the countryside, large number of peasant women joined men in protesting taxes, land tenure, and landholder's rights. At the end of September 1942, peasants attacked police stations and destroyed telegraph lines in four sub-divisions of Medinipur district. When people of Tamluk sub-division marched on the town, Matangini Hazra, a 73-year old widow, stepped forward, lifted the Congress flag, and gave her first public speech. She was shot first in the hand holding the flag and then in the head.
Two Bengali women, Aruna Ganguli Asaf Ali (1909-1996) and Sucheta Mazumdar Kripalani (1908-1974), both domiciled in other parts of the country, became all-India leaders in this movement. In 1942 Aruna Asaf Ali went underground to organise the resistance and hinder the war effort. Sucheta Kripalani also went into hiding in 1942, but she worked to co-ordinate non-violent activity to bring the government to a standstill.
The Bengal Famine of 1943-1944 caused the death of at least 3.5 million people and the impoverishment and dislocation of millions more. Women who previously earned a living by husking paddy or trading in the local market were deprived of their incomes. In addition to food shortages, women faced sexual harassment when they sought employment or help from relief centres. During the famine years, women were visible both as victims and activists. Starving women begged for food in public places, while middle-class women worked to provide relief." -Banglapedia, titled 'Women'

KOP Yosuke x desi reader pls?
Why him tho?
Please keep in mind that I am a sex-repulsed asexual and there will be no smut here on my blog(mentioning this because I was so icked by all the sex scenes in-game), even after I turn 18.
Okay, so-
Yosuke probably knows a lot about the world. Even if he doesn't know much about your country and it's culture and traditions, it takes him mere seconds to find out about your cultural background, and well, all about you.
He tries food at an Indian restaurant for the first time and loves it.
It becomes a habit.
Until that day, you make him some biryani(Kolkata style, because wtf is biryani without potato???).
He forces himself to eat it, to not disappoint you.
It's not bad at all, he thinks.
He could eat your food every day.
So, he quits eating his meals outside.
Yosuke nearly fainted once from getting a fish bone stuck in his throat. (That happened to me once, and I am always paranoid when eating fish. 💀)
He enthusiastically wears a kurta and dhoti to give you a big surprise, once, while you were away.
And he waltzes around the building wearing them.
You come home so tired that you don't notice him.
But when you do, Yosuke is smiling from ear to ear, excitedly talking how he had to look up tutorials online.
When he sees you in a sari for the first time, he is all flustered. He has no words to describe how beautifully it suits you.
He finds you talking in your native language sexy.
He secretly tries to learn your language, without you knowing, and surprises you by saying "What is for dinner tonight?" in your native language, casually one night.
When you take him to a relative's wedding, he is surprised to see all the fancy clothes everyone is wearing.
Also, why do you have so many uncles, aunts, cousins, nephews and nieces? Yosuke just finds it hard to remember all their names.
You definitely have to keep an eye and a ear on him when you introduce him to your parents for the first time.
Because this man cannot be trusted. He may say weird things and freak your parents out.
But it goes well.
He tries desi street food and he is in love.
Especially with fuchka/pani-puri/whatever else it is called.
Please don't tell him about fuchka eating competitions.
Yosuke probably listens to old Hindi songs and watches old Bollywood movies.
It appears that he has roped his friends into his new interests too.
He would buy Sydney a sari. Sydney wouldn't be so impressed though.
I am out of ideas. Please feel free to suggest more and I will add them here. This is really fun. :D
Thank you for reading!

MOD'S CHOICE POLL

Mod's own propaganda under the cut:
Sasha as Red Riding Hood:
During submissions, I became so absolutely excited when I saw this pop up. I don't know who decided to submit it, but they unlocked some childhood memories for me. Back when I was a child, my family visited Pakistan (my parent's country of origin) for the entire summer. One day I, bored, asked for some movies to watched and my parents and uncle brought back some clearly bootlegged DVDs dubbed in Hindi/Urdu, and Bratz Kids Fairy Tales was one of them. I watched it so many times, you have no idea- I think that I might have wrecked the whole DVD with how much I watched it. (A similar thing happened later on when I obtained a clearly bootlegged copy of Bratz Fashion Pixie too but that's another, non-Red Riding Hood related story.) I wasn't surprised that it was eliminated right off the bat, but my childhood nostalgia dictated I put it here, or else I would be betraying the 7-year-old in me.
Shang, Tao, and Paotze:
Another childhood favorite of mine. This picture book has such beautiful art and I remember being very surprised by the story as a child. I found a PDF of it online to reread when the contest started and honestly it still holds up. The three sisters that are the Red Riding Hood in the story I feel are genuinely very clever. And for nothing else, look this one up solely for it's beautiful art which is just breath-taking whether you're a child or an adult!
Lamb:
Not going to lie I never played this game. My good friend who I adore submitted this to the poll and it immediately got eliminated and I just felt bad lol. But it does look cool & I trust their taste so I do think that this game is great. I want to play it but I am really bad at getting myself to play games.
Aku:
Samurai Jack is a CLASSIC and I dare you to not watch this clip and crack up. Mako was a gift of voice acting and I miss him so much. Also this episode is just pretty amusing.
Amy Lee:
My sister was actually the one to submit this and I will use her own propaganda here: "Evanescence was a voice of a generation." Honestly this song is kind of just okay, there are better Evanescence songs, but got to respect the effort they put into the music video. Who can resist to choose Amy Lee anyway?
The Path sisters:
Like many people who know this game, I know it through Izzzyzzz's two video essays on it. I didn't play the game afterwards, but I did watch some play-throughs since I don't play many games + it seemed mostly like a walking simulator anyway so I felt like I got the same effect. It is AMAZING and has so much story and analysis and I love shit like that... In particular, Scarlet, Ruby, and Rose are my favorites whose stories really resonated with me, even if I haven't exactly gone through their life experiences. Ginger too. And there's some really horrific imagery in Robin's...I would recommend everyone find a way to experience this game-- whether that's playing it, watching Izzzyzzz's videos, or finding a walk-through/analysis of it, it's worth it!
Lisette:
So this manga is sort of obscure but it is also sort of nostalgic to me. Well, nostalgic by proxy. My sister read it when I was younger and told me some details about it and for some reason it stuck with me. Like??? For no reason. It's not even that good lmao. The first chapter right off the bat is pretty edgy & handles sensitive topics very badly. But goddamn if I do not think about random elements of the story for no reason. I don't really remember shit about Lisette but hey this picture of her looks really cool.
Red:
If you notice a theme among these being "nostalgia" you would be right, as this was another nostalgic offering from my childhood that I would watch semi-annually. I was also fond of the sequel, though I thought it felt like a different series than the first one. (Which isn't unusual with animated sequels to popular movies, but the fact that the sequel was set-up by the ending of the first one implies it was planned? Weird). But anyway Red is iconic and funny and voiced by Anne Hathaway and also her sad emo song "Red is Blue" sometimes still gets stuck in my head, so take that as you will.
Chacha:
I know absolutely nothing about this series. But it looks very cute so I like it. I love cute magical girls they deserve the world. Also I looked it up and apparently the Studio who did the Akazukin Chacha anime would later do the Yu-Gi-Oh animes from the 2000s and 2010s, so there's the obligatory mention of nostalgia.

Green's Party's Guide to the 2025 Oscar Nominated Short Films
I am absolutely thrilled to be doing my 8th annual guide to the Oscar Nominated Short Films (read my 2017, 2018, 2019, 2020, 2021, 2022, 2023 and 2024 guides). Anyone who knows me knows I am a longtime champion of the Short Film categories for Animation, Live Action and Documentary at the Academy Awards, mainly because I have made short films and I know how hard it can be to tell a story in a short amount of time.
2025 movie poster
This year’s nominated short films are available from ShortsTV both in theaters and online. I’ve watched all of them and here are my thoughts and predictions:
Best Animated Short Film:
This category is always cool because of the varying styles of animation. Magic Candies (Japan) is about a lonely boy Dong-Dong, who decides to buy a bag of candies instead of marbles and begins seeing some strange things. At times, the animation seemed almost like puppetry or woodmation for this imaginative tale. In the Shadow of the Cypress (Iran) is about a former captain now living in a secluded house with his daughter and suffering from PTSD. It's a silent movie in that there is no dialogue. Yuck! (France) is about kids at a Summer camp who are grossed out by older people kissing, until the main boy wants to give it a try with a girl camper. Wander to Wonder (UK) is about some miniature characters in a 1980s children's TV show, who are left alone in the studio after the show's originator dies. It boasts notable actor Toby Jones as one of the voices. This is very creative animation, but I'm sure animated purists will take issue with some of the live action pieces being combined into the film. In Beautiful Men (Belgium / France / Netherlands) three brothers stay at a hotel in Istanbul for hair transplants. This is the one animated short nominee that could have easily been a raunchy adult dramedy if it was live action, but within animation it was able to encompass more mature themes like older men with insecurities.
Will Win: Wander to Wonder seems to be getting some momentum and it's got some notable cast members. I think the live action element, might dissuade some animators, but it's charming enough to just win!
Should Win: Beautiful Men was the most original and entertaining of this year's animation nominees.
Best Live Action Short Film:
What a category this year! First up is Netflix's Anuja (U.S. in Hindi), which boasts star power in its producer Mindy Kaling. This shows a 9-year-old girl working in a garment factory and she is given an opportunity to go to school and has to make a decision. It had very stylish cinematography and tugged at the heartstrings. The Man Who Could Not Remain Silent (Croatia) takes place on a train that is suddenly stopped by military forces in an ethnic cleansing operation in 1993. There is an undercurrent of tension and fear throughout, even as we the audience are not seeing the horrors beyond the train, it's felt in a harrowing way. The New Yorker's I'm Not a Robot (Belgium / Netherlands) begins with a woman at her workplace doing one of those logins to prove you're not a robot. When she has trouble logging in, she takes a survey that assesses she might be a bot and that causes her world to unravel. I liked the idea and the build-up, even if the ending was a letdown. A Lien is about a family dealing with a dangerous immigration process. In less than 15 minutes, this drama packs in more than a lot of features even try for. The Last Ranger (South Africa) is about young Litha, who is introduced to a game reserve by the last remaining ranger, and they are ambushed by poachers as they try to save the rhinos. This film truly makes the argument for seeing the Oscar Nominated Shorts in a movie theater. The scenic locale is breath-taking on a small screen, but probably looked way better on a big screen.
Will Win: Any of these could easily win for different reasons, but A Lien is very of-the-moment with Trump's immigration policy being a hot-button issue.
Should Win: The Man Who Could Not Remain Silent gets a ton of credit for having a lot to say without actually showing the horrors it alludes to it. But I think A Lien is the best of any of this Live Action Shorts batch!
Best Documentary Short Film:
This year's Documentary Short Film nominees cover a lot of varied ground: New York Times' Instruments of a Beating Heart (Japan) is about a first grade class in a Tokyo elementary school that are going to perform "Ode to Joy" for the incoming first students and the subject is a girl who was selected to play the drums in the song. You are rooting for her as she gets so scared and upset during rehearsals, but it shows the power of music, which was a similar theme in last year's winner The Last Repair Shop. The New Yorker's Incident is a reconstruction of a 2018 police shooting in Chicago. It is a unique documentary in that it is made up entirely of actual surveillance and bodycam footage. It is disturbing to watch and there's also long stretches with no sound, forcing the viewer to watch what's happening that much more. MTV Documentary Films' I am Ready, Warden is directed by Smriti Mundhra, who was nominated in this category for 2019's St. Louis Superman (which I praised in my 2020 Shorts Guide). This very intense doc looks at a convicted murderer on death row. Prior to his execution he tries to reach out to his son and the victim's son. It looks at the situation from all sides. Very sobering to say the least. Netflix's The Only Girl in the Orchestra is about double bassist Orin O'Brien, who recently retired from the New York Philharmonic. The doc is directed by her niece Molly and it's a conversational look at Orin's life growing up with Old Hollywood actor parents, her love of music and her career, including re-connecting with former students. The Kennedy / Marshall Company (yes, THE Frank Marshall is a producer of this) present Death by Numbers about Samantha Fuentes, one of the survivors of the Parkland High School shooting. It shows her grappling with feelings of anger and sadness as she prepares to face the shooter in his trial. To say this is powerful would be an understatement. It documents this subject's life, memories and the trial, it used animation, poetry and art to enhance Fuentes' narration / interviews.
Will Win: There is a lot of heavy subjects in this year's category, which is why they might cancel each other out and The Only Girl in the Orchestra, which is more uplifting and celebratory, could steal the thunder.
Should Win: This one is difficult to choose, but I think Death By Numbers was the one that left me the most speechless and went beyond just a documentary short and felt like a moving life experience.
This year’s Oscar Nominated Short Films can be seen online from ShortsTV as well as select movie theaters including programs at Coolidge Corner Theatre and Alamo Drafthouse Boston.

One week after deactivating almost all of my socials. I can really say that I am doing better than I was before. I feel more liberated and free from the chains of unknown. Maybe, it's envy? Finally, I can no longer be disappointed with myself because I am not able to see how well my mutuals are doing in life. Nawala 'yung comparison at constant questioning of how do I really want this life to thrive in the long run. More importantly, nawala ang dramas at ingenuity. I can no longer post stuff online that aren't really reflecting my own private life. Hindi na rin pwersado 'yung connections. Picture naman tayo para sa stories or MyDay ko. Bullshit. Walang lalim na relationship.
Finally, I am going back to my old hobbies. I can now catch up with my long list of movies and series to watch that have piled up since college. I am keeping up with my 52 books for 2024 (one book a week). By and by, I was able to reconnect with people authentically---I get to finally socialize with social media; I started listening and talking more and appreciate the importance of shared lives.
Life.

Small Story 111 The Transforming Power of Sri Andal
Small Story 111. The Transforming Power of Sri Andal** Pankajam had been trying to reach her friend Vedha for a while, but there was no response. She wondered why Vedha hadn’t called her back since yesterday. Just as Pankajam was about to call again, Vedha’s name appeared on her screen. “Sorry, Pankajam. From yesterday, I’ve been in a different world,” Vedha said with excitement. “I met my old classmate, Soumya the day before yesterday. She invited me to her home, and I was shocked at the changes in her life.” “What happened to her?” Pankajam asked, intrigued. “Well, when we were in college, she was a big fan of Hindi songs and movies,” Vedha continued. “But now, at 56, she’s completely transformed! She told me her story, and I was thrilled. After her marriage, she and her husband moved to Srivilliputtur, his hometown, where they visited the Sri Andal Nachiar temple. The temple and the goddess left a deep impression on her.” “Really?” Pankajam asked, curious. “Yes, after their visit to the temple, Soumya's husband got a job in the U.S., and there she met a neighbor named Archana who was a devoted follower of Sri Andal. Soumya became close friends with her and began chanting Thirupavai every day. After a few months, her husband received a promotion. She felt that the chanting had brought blessings into their lives,” Vedha explained. “Wow, that’s incredible,” Pankajam responded. “It gets even more interesting,” Vedha continued. “Every fortnight, Soumya invited her friends over and shared the history of Sri Andal with them. A year later, she was blessed with a son, whom she named Desikan. Over time, she became very knowledgeable about Thirupavai, studying it online with the help of great scholars.” “Such dedication!” Pankajam exclaimed. “What about her son?” “Desikan grew up following in his mother’s footsteps, always interested in the teachings of Sri Andal. Now, Soumya visits Srivilliputtur every year and does charity work for those in need. It’s amazing how much her life has changed,” Vedha said, her voice filled with admiration. “I can see why you’re so thrilled,” Pankajam said. “It sounds like Sri Andal’s teachings truly transformed her life.” “That’s not all,” Vedha replied. “Yesterday, I attended a discourse on Sri Andal’s Thirupavai by a lady named Ambujavalli. The way she explained everything was so inspiring. I decided I want to learn more, and this month, I’m going with Soumya to attend the lecture.” “That’s wonderful! I’m definitely going with you too,” Pankajam said, excited. “I’d love to learn more about Sri Andal and the Thirupavai teachings.” Both friends agreed to join the lecture, feeling inspired by the powerful impact of Sri Andal’s philosophy. This is why I prefer to be single.
Most of my friends ask me if I have a partner now, which I usually respond to “no.” I have been single for I can say… quite a long (?) time na. Not as long as “long”… but you get what I mean. And I decided to stay that way because of the reason about this one thing that I couldn’t handle — myself.
This is why I prefer to be single.
To tell you honestly, I am not a very patient person. Madali akong magalit. Madali akong mapuno. At ang pinakamalala sa lahat — madali akong ma-trigger.
I realized na if ganyan ugali ko, I cannot be able to handle a serious relationship. Hindi ko nga kaya ayusin ang sarili kong issues, what more nalang kaya kung may partner pa ako? Sabi nga nila, your partner is there to be with you when you are spiraling down. Well, that’s good for you.
But what if ako naman ang kailangan nila? Kaya ko ba i-handle ang mga issues nila? Kaya ko bang maging matatag to be there for that person? Or baka mas mapapalala ko lang ang burden nila?
This is why I prefer to be single.
I am an only child. My parents rely on me to be there to take care of them when they retire and get old. Wala akong ibang aasahan kundi ang sarili ko.
For my end, this is a big pressure. At the moment, I am juggling three jobs (one government job, and two online jobs). My job pays well, but because of the pressure of being an only child, I need more to sustain my support for my family, syempre pati na rin sa sarili ko.
This is why I prefer to be single.
I am a dreamer. I have many dreams for myself. I want to be stable. I need to have focus. And having a relationship now? I don’t think kaya kong ibigay ang 100% ko sa aking partner.
In the end, magiging kawawa lang siya sa akin. Because I would always choose my career, future, and family over anything.
And I think they wouldn’t like that.
This is why I prefer to be single.
This list can go on and on, and maari pang madagdagan in the future.
Don’t get me wrong. Masarap magmahal, at masarap mahalin. I’ve been there. I even cry on corny love movies and teleseryes because honestly, sometimes I wish that was me.
I wish someone will be there to take care of me.
I wish I could love someone as much as they love me.
I wish I could be there whenever they need me.
Unfortunately, hindi ko pa kaya sa ngayon. I wish I could. In the future, maybe? But having all these issues? I don’t think kaya ko pa. Sana sa susunod. Sana.
This is why I prefer to be single now.
