How to deal with Okara waste-soybean residue as organic fertilizer
Large-scale soy products factories use okara resources to vigorously build biogas and feed, but still have a large amount of okara waste discarded. The effective nutrients of okara are lost for no reason, the utilization rate is low, and secondary pollution is formed. The use of bean dregs to prepare organic fertilizers, on the basis of prolonging the utilization chain of resources, makes it profitable. The traditional cultivation fertilizer is mainly composed of fertilizer, chicken and duck manure. With the rapid increase of demand for organic fertilizer in the market, the resources such as fertilizer are increasingly tense, and the cultivation cost is rising rapidly. Because the growth rate of resources is far lower than the growth rate of fertilizer and fertilizer needed for cultivation, the price of organic fertilizer rises in a straight line, which leads to a sharp decline in cultivation efficiency, and the smooth development of melon and fruit production is restricted due to the shortage of raw materials. Organic fertilizer is an important resource for agricultural production. Investment in organic fertilizer production equipment is the choice of many farms and industries. Okara waste can't be used as fertilizer directly and need to be processed later. Because fresh soybean dregs will not only burn the roots of plants, but also attract a large number of flies and mosquitoes, which is not conducive to plant growth. Soybean dregs can be used as fertilizer only after they are fermented and dried. If you want to ferment quickly, you can add some bacteria in physics. Okara's nutrient content and organic content are high, but the material is finely crushed. Composting alone has serious problems of poor ventilation in the matrix, long germination time, and high bacterial pollution rate. It indicates that the utilization of soybean dregs cannot be fermented with a single raw material, and it needs to be combined with a corresponding proportion of straw and manure to be used as an organic fertilizer. In the production of organic fertilizers, the nutritional components of the final fertilizer products are mainly formulated according to different fruits, especially growth needs. In the production process of organic fertilizers, nutrients with different ratios can be added to them through an organic fertilizer granulator to make granular fertilizers. Of course, according to the different fermentation raw materials and different products, choose different granulators, such as flat die pellet mill, disc granulator machine, rotary drum granulator, etc.

How to use up okara?
Okara is the leftover soybean pulp from making soy milk. I make soy milk once a week, and that means every week I have a few cups of okara to get through!!
Commercially it ends up in animal food because it's extremely cheap, but that doesn't mean you should throw it away when you make soy milk at home - try zero waste!
It's very nutritious! It contains Potassium, Calcium, Vitamin B, and Vitamin D while also being 25% protein by composition when dried!!
I use it in many recipes, but I think the best use is to knead it with whole wheat flour to make bread. Here I've used about half a cup of okara for 3 cups of wholewheat flour to make a paratha, an Indian bread, that I'm eating with some spicy aloo baingan (potato + aubergine). You can't taste the okara and it doesn't change the texture of the bread but it makes the bread hella good for your body. [One thing to note though is that you can't eat raw soybeans and that means you can't eat raw okara - make sure you've boiled it in with the milk before straining the milk out or cooked it in the oven before you use it in any recipes!]
So go try it out! Add a bit of okara to your naan recipe or your sourdough bread or your homemade pizza or literally any dough you're making at home. I'm definitely going to do this regularly with all my bread recipes.

TTFeb: Three new favorite foods
shati prompted: Any new/recent (however you want to define recent) favorite foods? To eat, to make, whatever I have three for you! 1. Okara / soy pulp pancakes. I loooooove fresh soy milk; if you've only had the boxed stuff, it's a totally different flavor! But none of the grocery stores near me sell the fresh stuff, so I have to make it myself. While you can make it with just a pot and a blender, it likes boiling over; a soy milk maker is a set-and-forget. Combined with the beans being pretty shelf stable and wanting to reduce dairy consumption, it would seem a no-brainer to make it all the time, BUT it always felt so wasteful to have all the soy pulp left over! There's only so much stir-fried okara and hiding it in breads that can be done before I'm totally bored with it. It's also very perishable unless you freeze or dry it. Enter: okara pancakes. To one batch of okara (~3 cups, not particularly well drained of the soy milk), add 1 c flour, 1 heaping spoonful cornstarch, and whatever diced vegetables and flavorings suits your mood. I usually default to Thai red curry paste with onions since it's super convenient. Then in a well-oiled pan, fry them on both sides until browned, and drain on paper towels. They're satisfyingly hearty and flavorful. I don't think I'd make soy milk just to have them, but at this moment in time, they're by far my favorite way to use up the leftover okara. And now I can have salty soy milk for breakfast without any guilt about letting the soy pulp go to waste! 2. King Arthur's Easiest Loaf of Bread. My current favorite bread recipe! This recipe creates finer bubbles in the bread, with just enough of a crust for textural contrast without being tough. I'm sure my Bread Opinions will change with time, but this is the current champion! It unseated the KA no knead bread, which kept coming out with bubbles of uneven size and ever so slightly sour in a bad way. This one is more consistent in texture. 3. Serious Eats' Tomato Soup. The baking soda trick is a GAME CHANGER. Cooking it down for hours is pretty annoying, but I regret to inform that it really does make it more delicious as the tomato flavor develops. Actually I feel that way about the ingredients too-- I'm usually a 'whatever, just substitute something else' kind of cook, but all the perturbations I've tried for this recipe have ranged from 'meh' to 'not quite as good'. An energetically stable point on the food landscape. Back to masterlist

Slim Quick Keto
Slim Quick Keto One other factor I've to tell you was that part of my job goes to various symposiums and conferences and I heard from many distinguished docs in previous few years that taking vitamins and dietary supplements is not obligatory when consuming effectively-balanced meals, which I did once I was on the program. Trainer Hwang created the two snacking meals to allow Bom to enjoy her two favourite foods - corn and nuts. If you're critical about shedding in a wholesome method and staying at your objective once you attain it, then focus in your life-style. Moments during which era their body is storing fat and burning it; retaining extra fluid and excreting it; fasting and recently fed; relatively empty of waste or just about to get rid of it Whereas a single scale measurement would be the most handy indicator we have about directional traits in one's body mass, it's certainly not an irrefutable and precise reality. Okara is not only high in fiber, it is also low in calories, making it ideally suited for dieters and people who would wish to either shed pounds or hold their shapes. https://www.futuresupplement.com/slim-quick-keto/

Examining the trial use of soybean waste to tackle obesity  Nanyang Technological University
An international team of scientists from Nanyang Technological University, Singapore (NTU Singapore) and Waseda University in Japan have found that fermented soybean waste, or okara, could improve fat metabolism and mitigate effects of diet-induced obesity.
Through laboratory experiments reported in the peer-reviewed scientific journal Metabolites in February, the scientists from NTU Singapore and Waseda showed that mice on a high fat diet supplemented with fermented okara gained less body mass and had lower levels of fat and cholesterol after three weeks as compared to mice on the same diet but not fed any fermented okara.
With 14 million tonnes of okara generated every year, and nearly a third of the world's population overweight or obese, the scientists hope their findings can pave the way for fermented okara to be integrated into health foods one day, addressing the problems of food waste and obesity at the same time.
Tumblr media
The soybean waste, collected from a local tofu manufacturer, was fermented with food-grade microbes used in making foods such as miso and soy sauce.
Dr. Ken Lee, senior lecturer at the NTU School of Physical and Mathematical Sciences and co-lead author of the paper, says that "using a process akin to what is used to produce miso and soy sauce, we fermented okara and fed it to mice on a high-fat diet. Three weeks later, we found that these mice gained less weight as compared to mice on a high-fat diet but without fermented okara. The mice that were fed fermented okara also had less fat and lower cholesterol levels."
"Our findings suggest that fermented okara could help to mitigate the harmful effects of a high-fat diet, and could potentially be integrated in the diets of obese patients who find it difficult to make immediate lifestyle changes."
Dr. Shigenobu Shibata, Professor at the Waseda University Graduate School of Advanced Science and Engineering and co-lead author of the paper, says that "Aspergillus oryzae and Aspergillus sojae, which are typical aspergillus fungi used to produce soy sauce and miso, were successfully combined to ferment okara. Compared to unfermented okara, fermented okara was found to be able to reduce obesity and improve abnormal lipid metabolism in mice. Tofu and soymilk are now widely accepted as health foods not only in Japan but in the world, and the effective use of okara, which is an industrial waste, is in line with the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals. I hope NTU and Waseda University, each with their unique strength, will continue to promote such joint research centered on graduate students and young researchers."
The okara study supports the goals of the NTU 2025 five-year strategic plan, which prioritizes the University's commitment to sustainability, as well as its focus on health and society as one of the research clusters with potential for significant intellectual and societal impact.
Enhancing okara's nutrition
To enhance the nutritional profile of okara, the research team from NTU and Waseda first fermented okara collected from a Singapore beancurd manufacturer using a process traditionally used in Asian countries to make fermented soybean food products such as miso, soy sauce, and tempeh.
Enhancing the nutritional profile of okara increases its potential as a desirable ingredient in the human diet, the scientists explained.
For this study, the team added a mix of Aspergillus oryzae (A. oryzae) and Aspergillus sojae (A. sojae)—food-grade microbes—to okara and left it to ferment in the dark at 25°C for four days.
Compared to unfermented okara, the scientists found that fermented okara had more protein and a higher total phenolic content—an indication of higher antioxidant properties—and less insoluble dietary fiber.
Fermented okara improves fat metabolism
The scientists then investigated the anti-obesity effects of fermented okara on mice put on a three-week high fat diet compared to mice put on three other types of diet: a normal diet, a high-fat diet, and a diet supplemented with unfermented okara.
At the end of three weeks, mice that were fed fermented okara every day gained the least body mass (3g) as compared to other three groups of mice that gained between 6g to 10g.
The mice that were fed fermented okara also had less visceral and subcutaneous fat (30g and 19g respectively) than mice on a high-fat diet without any fermented okara (67g and 53g respectively).
The scientists also found lower triglyceride and cholesterol levels in mice on a fermented okara-supplemented diet compared to those without. Triglycerides are a type of fat in the blood that has been linked to an increased risk of heart disease.
Further investigation revealed that the reduction in triglycerides was in part due to a significant dip in proteins involved in fatty acid synthesis.
These findings indicate the fermented okara's potential to suppress diet-induced obesity, said the scientists.
The study builds on the NTU-Waseda team's earlier research on other uses for okara. For instance, the scientists showed that fermented okara could help to bring down blood sugar levels. They have also worked with a local brewery to integrate okara into modern dishes.
Working with collaborators in Singapore, the NTU team has also successfully repurposed okara into an eco-friendly 3D-printing ink, highlighting the potential use of 3D food printing to improve food sustainability.
The NTU-Waseda team is now reaching out to industry partners to translate this work into healthy snacks and exploring how it can be integrated into other food products.

DIY MISO made from rice koji( malted rice ) and “okara”( soybean strain lees which left after making tofu) . Miso — traditional Japanese food , fermented soy bean paste — is natural healthy food which encourages your gut movement, Okara miso contains more fibers , and of course, 6months -fermentation process raise its protein score and breakdown anti-nutrients in soybeans which originally disturbed nutrient absorption into your body. Moreover, it increases healthy micro biome( pro biotic), and short chained fatty acid( pre biotic). So you can feel dramatic bowel movement and get “cleansed” after trying. The biggest reason Why I made okara miso is not only nutritional idea, but also ( and more than that) , I wanted to reduce “waste”, in other words, making use of all ( genuine idea of wholeness of food ) is following the concept of SYOJIN (精進) ーTaoism, or eastern way of veganism. I believe ,and hopefully, genuine Taoism would be one one of the way how to live better for earth as a human being. https://www.instagram.com/p/CV_cGptPxaZ/?utm_medium=tumblr

THE ROLE OF A POET IN THIS CORONA TIMES by #2WYTH #gbeduPoet The role is a poet in this Corona Times is nothing but to write, paint the events that unfold everyday for the Now, Tomorrow and Future. The role of a poet in this Corona Times is to till the soil to understand the culture, tradition and language of the soil, so that the right seeds will be sown on the soil; the rain of time will cause it to sprout, the sun of time will cause it to grow into an ornamental tree whose fruits will be desired more by the generations to come. The fruits of such a tree will never fall to the ground because they are precious; they only fall to the ground for the seeking seeker because they are diamonds in the eyes of an eagle, wisdom to the seeker. "Why will I waste my time to write poems in this Corona Times when the ones I wrote in Blossoming Times yielded no interest in coins and notes?" Some of you will silently enquire. Reading the account of the success of "The Raven", the magnus opus (famous poem of a poet) of Edgar Allan Poe. Poe said, "The Raven" was a literary success that brought fame to me but I'm still poor as ever as I used to be, I did not make any financial success. Although, Edgar Allan Poe did not build an architectural mansion for tourists to come and see, but his artistry (his words, poems) has and is still building architectural masterpieces in the mind of humanity and his artistic life is a tourist attraction we visit to discover the beauty of words laid beautifully by a master bricklayer. A lot of prominent poets were poor, poetry never gave them prosperity but it made them literary giants whose words raised weaklings into giants. Before the demise of Pa Gabriel Okara and Captain Elechi Amadi, I asked them a question, "Can I make millions with Poetry, can Poetry pay me?" They both replied the same thing, "Don't write for the money, don't write for fame; write for writing sake. If you're creative and lucky enough, your writing may provide you all the money you need." Their answers to my question made me uncomfortable for days into weeks, weeks into months, months into years. However, I made up my mind to improve my craft... https://www.instagram.com/p/B-kYMbiAKA1/?igshid=ksfpojbi9nhp

Hi! So, since it’ll be a nuisance for the people who keep up with my story to switch back and forth I will start putting the newest chapter in the post as well as the link to the full story. https://www.fanfiction.net/s/12422847/1/Heroes-of-Time Now, time for my notification squad. @mrevaunit42 @yuemoonlight97 @minthia-ren @thatonebrokenstar @cid331 @theodora14pines if anyone wants to join then just tell me! If I have missed anyone then I apologize. Anyways! lets get to it!
The Hellish Cell Games Begin
Cell’s power was just too great for both Okara and Trunks to handle. Okara and Trunks were easily defeated, but not killed. Cell launched Okara and Trunks into the beach below with tremendous force. Okara and Trunks rose to their feet, but they hanged their heads as if ready to die by Cell’s hands.
“I will have fun with this.” Cell laughed as he slowly walked towards the two young men.
“Is this just a game to you?!” Trunks asked with a fury in his heart.
Cell stopped dead in his tracks and rubbed his chin.
“A game you say…” Cell’s eyes lit up with excitement.
Okara and Trunks shared a look of concern while they waited for Cell to finish his statement.
“That’s it,” Cell exclaimed, “I shall hold a tournament! It will allow me to test my strength against any and all fighters who come to face me! Tell your friends and family to watch out for me on the television.”
Cell smiled and slowly rose into the air. His long, black wings expanded whist he made his accent. Trunks felt a familiar energy approach from the south.
“Okara! Trunks!” Krillin rushed to Okara’s side and patted his back.
Okara looked down and smiled a little bit at his friend’s kindness.
“You two have failed! What did you think you would be able to do, huh?! You’re both too weak to defeat him!” Vegeta flew down and got right into Trunks’ face.
Vegeta frowned and gritted his teeth at Trunks. Krillin clenched his fists and opened his mouth, almost giving Vegeta an earful, but was stopped by Okara. Vegeta grabbed Trunks and lifted him up off of the ground. Trunks looked Vegeta in the eye and clenched his fists.
“Dad, you get another chance to fight Cell.” Okara stated.
Vegeta dropped Trunks and walked over to Okara. Okara told Vegeta about Cell’s tournament and to watch the television.
“Well, that doesn’t sound-” Krillin stopped before he could finish his statement.
Android 16 approached the four men. Krillin walked towards the tall, orange haired android.
“Get away from him!” Trunks shouted.
“He’s dangerous! All of their androids are evil, psychotic killers.” Okara walked up to Krillin and tried to pull him away. Krillin side stepped Okara and propped 16 up.
“C’mon big guy, let’s get you fixed up.”
“Give me all you’ve got Gohan!”
Gohan charges up his energy and dashes to Goku as a Super Saiyan. Goku throws a jab that is dodged by Gohan. Goku tries to kick Gohan but is stopped by Gohan’s forearm Gohan jumps up into the air and drop kicks Goku. Goku stumbles back and dropped his guard. Gohan punched Goku in the chest and legs.
Goku regains balance and started dodging Gohan’s attacks. Goku backs off from Gohan and started shooting energy blasts at him. The yellow energy blasts reach the size of of small cars before they even get fired off. Gohan dodges all the blasts but one. Gohan gets knocked down into the ground and loses part of his clothing.
Gohan cried out in agony as he tried to get up.
“Gohan! Are you ok?” Goku picked up Gohan and took him to one of the beds inside of the house part of the Hyperbolic Time Chamber.
“Whoa! You did it Gohan!”
“I did!”
Gohan huffed and puffed while he stood up. His golden, spiked hair making him look like a new person.
“RRRRRRGGGGGAAAAAAAAH!!!”
Gohan’s hair started to spike up even more. His aura started changing, it had lightning infused with it. Goku looked on in amazement as his son started to go beyond the Super Saiyan form.
“Dad, dad wake up.”
Goku opened his eyes and rose up to his feet..
“Remember Gohan, we must stay in the Super Saiyan transformation. It will help us train for Cell.” Goku stated.
Gohan nodded and got up to his feet. Goku smiled before he went to the door and stepped out. Gohan followed Goku with confusion.
“Dad, why did we leave so early?” Gohan asked.
Goku rubbed his chin in concentration, as if he was trying to find the right words to express himself. Goku stopped and took a deep breath.
“If you’re going to fight, then your hidden power will be brought out by anger. I know that anger comes best from battle.” Goku explained.
Gohan nodded, but did not understand the true meaning of his father’s statement.
“I sense their energy, they’ve come out early.” Piccolo stated.
Vegeta looked at the door with anticipation. Okara and Trunks wanted to see how strong their master had become. Everyone on the Lookout was waiting for the arrival of Goku and Gohan.
“Hey guys!” Goku greeted with a smile and wave.
Gohan walked out behind Goku. Their hair was a light yellow color. Vegeta smirked and chuckled to himself.
“Can we get something to eat Mr. Pop?” Goku asked with an innocent smile.
Mr. Popo quickly brought out some food for Goku and Gohan. The two Saiyans wasted no time before they chowed down on their food.
“So, what did you guys do in there?” Okara asked.
Goku gulped down some of his food before he explained what he did with Gohan. All of the intense sparring matches and training sessions were put into detail.
“All of the blood, sweat, and tears were not wasted while we trained.” Goku finished.
Okara got up and left his marvelled brother’s side.
“Hey Gohan, want to know something about your future self?” Okara smiled at Gohan, who had a mouthful of rice.
Gohan nodded and gulped down the rice quicker than you could say “fast”.
“Well, he was strong. Incredibly strong. He was the best fighter I had known before I met Goku or dad. I know you can become strong too, stronger than my Gohan.” Okara looked at Gohan with a huge smile.
Gohan smiled back. Piccolo looked at the two halfling Saiyans and smiled to himself.
Okara isn’t that bad of a kid, he just needs to work on that foolish pride of his. Piccolo thought to himself.
Goku stood up and walked into a room of the Lookout. A few minutes later he came back out in a new Gi. Mr. Popo smiled with delight when he saw Goku in the new Gi.
“Um, Mr. Piccolo?” Gohan asked.
Piccolo looked down at Gohan with a fake frown.
“Can I have a costume like your’s?”
Piccolo smiled at Gohan and put his hand on Gohan’s head. A flash of light replaced Gohan for a second before he was back with a Gi almost like Piccolo’s.
“Goku, we may need to have some Dragon Balls. We need to wish all of the people Cell killed back to life.” Tien stated.
Goku thought for a second before he came up with an idea.
“All we need is a Namekian right? Well, what if I get one to come here?” Goku asked.
“It could work, but we don’t know where the new Namek is at.” Piccolo reminded Goku.
“I could just ask King Kai for directions!” Goku put his fingers up to his forehead and disappeared.
Goku instantly arrived at King Kai’s planet.
“Oh, hi Goku. What’re you doing here?” King Kai asked.
“I need to know where New Namek is at.” Goku replied.
King Kai pointed to the west.
“There, that’s where they are at.” King Kai stated.
Goku nodded and vanished. Goku arrived at Namek instantaneously, and talked to the Elder. Goku explained what was happening on Earth to the Elder.
“You may take Dende, he is a part of the dragon clan.” the Elder stated.
A short Namekian with a red jacket walked up to Goku. Goku smiled at him and put his hand on Dende’s shoulder. They left Namek and returned to Earth.
A few hours later
The Dragon Balls have been reactivated. Cell has not made his announcement yet however. The Z fighters anxiously watched the television. Each click between channels seeming more horrifying.
“Ma’am where is the newsroom?” Cell asked a young woman.
The young woman pointed up with a shaky hand.
“R-r-r-room 30.”
“Thank you.” Cell smiled at the woman and flew up.
Cell flew through many floors, flying up to the newsroom.
“GUYS! CELL IS ON THE TELEVISION!” Okara yelled.
Cell’s smirk showed up on every channel, even a cooking show. The Z fighters watched with tension as Cell made a slow accent.
Once Cell made it to the newsroom he attacked and killed the news anchor.
“Hello world, I am Cell. You may know me as the creature who killed all of those innocent people. You may be wondering why I am here. Well, I am making an announcement. It is a challenge,” Cell laughed at the camera, “anyone who wants to face off against me will have the chance. It is a tournament. You will be facing off against me one by one, and you will have the upper hand. For I am not allowed to rest, but if you die you get disqualified. You have 7 days to get prepared before you all meet your demise.”
The television signal went out before Cell killed the cameraman.
One Week Later
“Do you think we could win?” Krillin asked Piccolo.
Piccolo thought but could not come up with an answer.
Gohan and Goku were leading Okara, Trunks, Piccolo, and Krillin to Cell.
“Hey guys! We’re gonna watch!” Tien and Yamcha met up with the fighters.
Goku nodded and continued going forward.
By the time Goku and the others reached Cell’s location, Vegeta had already had a back and forth conversation with Cell. 16 met up with the others only a few minutes later.
“16-” Krillin started but was stopped by a random man with wire frame glasses.
“Can you please be quite, the champ is about to take on Cell!”
Krillin looked at the stage and noticed a man with a black mustache and curly black hair facing off against Cell. The man was doing some stretches before he ran at Cell.
Cell rolled his eyes and chopped the man into a mountain.
Goku looked up at Cell and started to smile.
“Well, it’s my turn then.” Goku stated.

Simple method to upcycle okara using 3D printing
by Singapore University of Technology and Design
Tumblr media
Researchers from the Singapore University of Technology and Design (SUTD) developed a method to perform direct ink writing (DIW) 3D printing of okara—a soybean byproduct generated from the production of soy milk and bean curd—without using food thickeners. Despite the high amount of dietary fiber and protein present, okara is usually discarded during the food manufacturing process. The researchers used 3D printing to repurpose otherwise discarded okara powders to create snacks with controlled texture. 3D printing has been an emerging technology to create food in various shapes designed using computers. During this process, food additives (usually hydrocolloids and food thickeners) are added to food to enable 3D printing and maintain the printed structures. The use of additives may, however, cause unintended changes in the texture and flavor of the original foods. To overcome this challenge, the research team from SUTD's Soft Fluidics Lab identified the specific particle size and concentration of okara that achieve desired food ink properties to ensure 3D printability. Their measurements suggested that the particle sizes were an essential variable to determine the rheological properties of the okara ink. Characterisations of the formulated okara ink were conducted to analyze their rheological and textural properties."Our demonstration highlights the upcycling of otherwise wasted foods to achieve customized textural properties via 3D printing. We believe our current demonstrations pave the way to realize the full potential of 3D printing technology toward improved food design and sustainability," explained Associate Professor Michinao Hashimoto, the principal investigator of the study from SUTD."The adequate use of such underutilized nutritious food would promote food supply sustainability and food waste reduction. We plan to develop more inks formulated with other food wastes to boost sustainability, " added lead author and Ph.D. candidate from SUTD, Mr Lee Cheng Pau.
