i just think it’s so silly to speculate on what a dead artist/writer would think of a present day artistic phenomenon because it implies that their practice existed in a vacuum and wasn’t informed by the age and location and technology of their own time...idk i know it’s not that deep but it just strikes me as a transparent way of making yourself seem more intelligent by pretending that you have any kind of intuition about a famous figure’s preferences or character, but also you don’t actually have to know anything because the scenario is purely speculative. cos no one can fact check you since it’s not like warhol and NFTs ever existed in the same timeline anyway. and they never will so what’s the point

Hi! I haven't watched the mlp movie just yet and I'm super confused, what's the difference between mermaids, sea ponies, gryphons, hypogryphons (are they called that??) and sirens?

ah ok so, in the canon of mlp

Sirens originally only appeared in in the Equestria girls movie, then later in the series for a mention and background appearance mentioned having been kicked from the dimension into the human world or whartever. The siren seem to be similar to sea ponies except they feed off emotions caused by their singing and have their lil gem on their chest and in canon looked like this

when i draw them i sometimes have a slight variety to one or two of them but general i draw them like this, i still have the classic gem, but i give them horns and their lil fins at the top are always biolumincent as their night hunters who live deep in the ocean in my like, fake lore biology shit.

sea ponies were in the BIG movie they did. unlike sirens their just shaped like sea horses like this. their nice and kind and whatever

to which i draw them like this, which like the siren i sometimes have variety to how their designs turn out but this one is very basic sea pony look. their without the extra odds and ends and just a fun note, i like to think that they have pouches for their babies just because i think its cute.

the comics also had Mermaids. which for MY canon i dont take into account and accept it as just another name for seaponies/sirens.

im sure i coulda dived into them being another branch of type of sea horse life but yknow what, i will not sdjkghdjk.

then with the Hypogriffs, they were also in the big movie. but were shown to to be a group of creatures no one had seen for a long time because of a tyrants ruling forced them into hiding. And the movie shows that the hippogriffs ARE the sea ponies. they have a magic pearl that transformed them into sea ponies so they could hide under water.

and my drawing of them isnt too off the mark for how they look in canon, i just mostly made them thicker lol so no slender and the legs styled more like the griffons in the show because they made them look crazy in the movie

then Griffons showed up super early in the show

their just griffons no affiliation to the hippogriffs

just your typical bird lion hybrid, and my version isnt far off the mark either, just again bit if a thicker design than the show’s style

and as for mermaids there are no canon mermaids in G4 mlp, when i mentioned them on that one post i took that direct reference from sea shimmers play card on her original toy. They mention her playing with a mermaid but i decided that mermaids may or may not exist in their universe but their elusive and unseen if they are real.

i also wouldn’t draw them with human body, it probably be more animal ish design because i feel weird just having a straight up human in this creature world lol. id probably design her human part closer how i drew the somnambula Sphynx design.
