WIP Wednesday
Trying here to show how hard it is to get over a break up, or a not quite date-friend-break-up possibility. Poor Oliver.
The sun was blinding bright off the snow and ice from the previous night's storm. Cheery glints flashed on ice coated cars and slick streets. Too bright, Oliver decided, than the morning after Valentine’s day had any right to be. The poodle squeezed the pillow over his head, trying to block out the cheery golden light from his eyes. A gloomy day would have been better for Oliver’s mental state.
Oliver groaned as he realized that sleep was going to elude him, dragging himself out of bed to make himself a cup of coffee. Blanche, his boss, had already texted to say the salon was going to be closed, and he didn’t feel like braving the icy wonderland to see if Kopi Coffee or a Starbugs was open. He waited for the coffee to stream into the cup trying not to think of last night.
All he wanted right now was to snuggle into some warmth and forget. But as he would begin to warm up all he could think of was that dumb tiger’s strong arms wrapping around him, shielding him from the cool air. When he closed his eyes all he could see was Sabre’s eyes lighting up as Oliver praised the food he’d made, or told a joke or story of some Karen he’d dealt with at work.
He added several spoonfuls of sugar and a small bit of cocoa to his coffee giving it a vigorous stir before taking a sip. The sip warmed him inside out, waking him up and shaping away the cobwebs unlike any other drink could. The chocolate was comforting and inviting, like hot chocolate after a day of blistering cold. He added a little cream and took a sip. Better. Much like that hot chocolate Sabre had made.
He paused looking forlorn at the cup. Why couldn’t he get that tiger out of his head. It was too much. He set the coffee cup down and turned away from the kitchen heading to take a nice blistering hot shower. Something to burn away the thoughts.
