TWO DAYS TO GO!
Lovely Fairy Circle, we’re only two days away from launching our Kickstarter! Yesterday we talked about how Kickstarter pledges work, but what happens once we’ve hit our initial funding goal?
We set more goals, of course! After our initial funding goal, we’ll offer merch upgrades (like holographic charms), book upgrades (like thicker pages), and bonus merch pieces (like a tote bag) at milestone funding amounts.
Today’s fairy spotlight is the Jogah from the Iroquois tribes (Mohawk, Tuscarora, Cayuga, Seneca) of North America!
“There are several different types of Jogah or little people that appear in Iroquois folklore. Gahongas (Stone Throwers or Stone Rollers) are earth spirits who live on rocky riverbanks and caves. They are enormously strong and are responsible for moving rocks around the countryside. Gandayah or Drum Dancers are nature spirits, who often help respectful Iroquois farmers with their crops. They got the name "Drum Dancers" because they are always invisible, so only the sound of their drums signalled their presence to the Iroquois. Ohdows are gnomes that live underground and keep snakes and subterranean monsters under control.”
You can read more about the Jogah [here]. Today’s spotlight also comes with a story about the Jogah, The Gifts of the Little People, where a boy named Dirty Clothes meets the Jogah while hunting. You can read the story [here]!
We’re also opening up our submissions box for you all to share stories about fairies from your culture! Feel free to send us a message and we’ll post it to our blog. Click [here] to submit!

In Iroquois folklore, the Jogah are a race of little people. They are usually invisible, but can be identified by the sounds of drumming or small divets left in the earth, where offerings of tobacco and fingernails can be left for them.
The Jogah are said to be mischievous, and can be dangerous when disrespected. Bad luck is sometimes blamed on them. They are divided into several groups, including Gahongas who live in streams and throw stones at people, the Gandayah who protect the flora of the area they live in, and the Ohdows who live underground.

#Jogah The name given to nature spirits of the Iroquois tribes of North America. These spirits are divided into three tribes; the Gandayah who are responsible for fertility of the Earth, Gahonga the ‘stone throwers’ of rocky terrain and rivers and the Ohdows who live in the underworld and command the monsters there. The monsters of the underworld try to reach the Earth’s surface for the warmth of the sun but the Ohdows prevent them from doing so.

And it begins. Welcome to Ninja Bear: The Village of the Ohdow. This story was originally created for print, and after the fact I decided to cut it into a webcomic, but hopefully that won’t interfere too much with the enjoyment of the story.
