Abdulaziz Al-Saud: Sustainably Reselling Surplus Food and Redefining Wholesale Trade at Barakah
Have you ever wondered what happens to the leftover surplus food that has already been produced and cooked but not bought and eaten by customers? Some businesses and companies give away food to people in need for free. Others give away food to stray animals that wander the area and some allow food surplus to just pile up in storage. There are also instances where the food that is left behind and unsold spoils which then is disposed of. Some other restaurants just discard food that has been untouched but is very fresh and ready to eat .
Unfortunately, statistics say that almost one-third of all food produced annually is wasted. When many people starving, dying, and malnourished from lack of food consumption, there are astonishingly many hotels, restaurants, and other food supply chain distributors that waste an immense amount of food every day.
There are so many people employed and working tirelessly to grow, harvest, care for, and work day and night to package, transport, and follow sustainable food distribution practices to retailers and customers as well. This is not just a waste of physical effort and labor by people, but it also affects the environment. When food surplus gets discarded by restaurants and hotels, the food surplus is taken and disposed of in landfills. When this disposed food starts decomposing, it releases a harmful gas called Methane. This methane gas is said to be a much more hazardous greenhouse gas emission than carbon dioxide.
To combat such challenges and hazardous consequences from disposing of surplus food waste, businesses, and companies encourage sustainability and initiatives in reducing food wastage by donating food to charities, reselling food by wholesale trade strategies, to needy people, to stray animals in the areas and communities, etcetera. Therefore in this article, we will be unveiling the innovative and creative sustainable strategy taken towards food waste reduction and decrease in CO2 emissions by creating and providing a platform where fresh and ready-to-eat surplus food is resold to customers and other restaurants and businesses through an online wholesale marketplace company – Barakah.
Abdulaziz Al-Saud – Co-founder and CEO at BARAKAH:
The Co-founder and Chief Executive Officer at Barakah is Abdulaziz Al-Saud. An entrepreneurial, hard-driven, climate and environmental activist, as well as a walking inspiration to others.
“Blessings In Every Bite” – Barakah.
Having received an education in a Bachelor’s Degree in Politics and History at SOAS University of London. Abdulaziz has since then wired in diverse roles and positions in the Middle East such as – Interning at the King Salman Youth Center, Macroeconomic Analyst at the Arabia Monitor, a MENA Consultant at Wyss&Partner, Founder of Arabian Power Ltd., and then finally the Co-founder and CEO of Barakah at Jeddah, Makkah, Saudi Arabia. Abdulaziz Al-Saud has a passion for sustainability initiatives – specifically in the fields of Renewable Energy and the Reduction of Food Waste. The co-founder has also volunteered as a Volunteer at VISIONS Service Adventures for Poverty Alleviation and as a Food Relief Volunteer at The Ministry of Social Affairs for Disaster and Humanitarian Relief.
Aim – “to drive customers into mindful decisions and heartful actions”.
Along with his 2 other co-founders – Munira Al Muammar and Rabah Habiss, Abdulaziz Al-Saud shared the same idea and passion for reducing and saving the wastage of surplus food produced as they believed that this could lead to a much more impactful solution towards the climate’s and biodiversity’s conservation and preservation. This led to the creation of a wholesale marketplace platform to elevate the retail sector in the food industry by reselling surplus food to customers and other SMEs.

BARAKAH:
The three co-founders of Barakah are Abdulaziz Al-Saud, Munira Al Muammar, and Rabah Habiss. The Chief Executive Officer is Abdulaziz Al-Saud. Barakah is an online wholesale trade marketplace that provides customers and SMEs allowing access and the platform for reselling surplus food produced by big restaurants, hotels, and other food supply chain distributors. Established in the year 2021, Barakah has its headquarters situated in Jeddah, Makkah, Saudi Arabia.
Vision – “to enable the community through an essential daily activity of ordering food to do good – and feel the blessing”.
The co-founders report that around 1.3 billion tonnes of food are wasted on an annual basis. Being almost one-third of the complete food produced, a staggering 1.3 billion tonnes are just fresh and good food that is going to waste, as well a mind-boggling 40,480 million SAR in revenue is lost. Barakah says that almost 10% is contributed towards CO2 emissions from the decomposing food dumped in landfills. The start-up also uncovers and shares disheartening information that unsold food leading to surplus wastage generates a loss in revenue by restaurants and hotels in the food industry and is estimated to be at 35 million SAR. Barakah is a model in food security solutions due to its food sustainability initiatives.
To respond to this, unfortunately, persisting issue, the co-founders at Barakah incorporate technological innovations and creativity as their strategic operation to drive towards the vision of connecting foodies to their favorite restaurants and eatery outlets as well as helping SMEs to generate more revenue and sales and attract more customers by reducing food wastage. Buying from huge food supply chain distributors, Barakah resells still-fresh food to customers and SMEs through sustainable business practices. Providing live maps for easier search and navigation, access to order online through an app, offering pick-up and delivery services in sustainable packaging, and helping the communities reduce waste by taking sustainable actions so that the environment can complete “the circle of spiritual fulfillment”.

At a meeting in Malta, Ukraine received the support of more than 60 countries for peace talks on its terms
Ukraine is barely making progress on the warfare entrance, however attaining outcomes on the diplomatic entrance. The third worldwide working assembly on its President Volodymyr Zelensky's so-called "peace formulation" introduced collectively representatives from 66 nations this weekend in Malta. It represented 23 extra governments than the earlier assembly in Jeddah (Saudi Arabia) final August. The principle absence was from China, which attended the Jeddah occasion. The presence of those 66 governments signifies that they acknowledge that the state of affairs in Ukraine will decide how the warfare ends. Underneath this coverage, kyiv convenes these summits, which doesn't imply that members settle for the ten factors that make up Zelensky's peace plan. Considered one of Ukraine's calls for for an finish to the battle is the creation of a particular court docket for warfare crimes dedicated by Russia on its territory. It's unlikely that nations equivalent to Turkey or Saudi Arabia, each audio system on the Malta Convention, would settle for this Courtroom.extra infoThe Malta assembly was held behind closed doorways and ended just like the earlier two conferences with out a joint assertion by the members. The complete listing of the delegation, comprising officers from the protection and overseas ministries, was additionally not supplied. Sure, it was confirmed that China didn't attend and that ambassadors attended for the primary time from Armenia, a rustic that maintains a navy alliance with Russia, however in current months has distanced itself from Moscow in quest of Western alliances. A loss to Azerbaijan for management of the disputed territory of Nagorno-Karabakh.The workplace of the presidency of Ukraine summarized this Sunday that the 5 factors of Zelensky's peace plan, which took half within the assembly through video convention, have been mentioned in Malta: the one which calls for Moscow relinquish its grip on the Zaporizhia nuclear energy plant - the largest one. Europe—; the purpose that calls for that Russia not bomb vitality infrastructure that leaves residents with out sources to fight antagonistic climate; Clauses that request meals provide ensures and, specifically, the potential of Ukraine having the ability to export its agricultural merchandise by the Black Sea, at present blocked by the Russian fleet; Ukraine's proposal to launch all prisoners of warfare and civilians compelled to flee to Russia was additionally mentioned, and at last, the necessity for Moscow to desert illegally annexed territories and respect established borders was put again on the desk. In 1991. Ukraine's independence is acknowledged by the worldwide neighborhood, Russia itself and the United Nations in varied resolutions.A big majority of nations within the United Nations Normal Meeting assist that Ukraine should absolutely get better its territory, a place that needs to be defended even by Vladimir Putin's diplomatic ally China. However there are extra voices within the Western political and tutorial world, who perceive that the peace plan is unlikely to contain the complete return of provinces illegally annexed by Russia. American historian Stephen Kotkin, one of the vital distinguished students of Russian historical past, insists that it's unrealistic to counsel that peace could be negotiated with Russia's demand for a particular court docket for warfare crimes and even the return of the Crimean peninsula. for Ukraine's sovereignty when nearly two million Russians already stay there.Moscow considers that the Ukrainian proposal leads nowhere. Russian International Ministry spokeswoman Maria Zazarova mentioned on Oct. 26 that conferences just like the one in Malta have been "reflective" and "the topic itself (prosperity) is unlikely." Putin's place stays the identical: an finish to the warfare requires Ukraine to acknowledge that its provinces of Crimea, Luhansk, Donetsk, Kherson and Zaporizhia are a part of Russia. Each Zelensky and Andriy Yarmak, his right-hand man and head of the Malta Meeting, have insisted that there's a majority of nations in favor of his proposal to finish the warfare within the face of Russian isolation. In his opening speech on the convention, Zelensky defended that his formulation for peace, based mostly on the UN Constitution and Normal Meeting resolutions, may very well be a mannequin for fixing different conflicts: “There isn't any equal warfare, however there generally is a formulation for peace. and have to be public. Its implementation ought to replicate not a specific nationwide place, however the place of individuals, humanity."The Malta occasion comes at a time when worldwide consideration is targeted on the battle in Gaza and when the warfare entrance in Ukraine is frozen, the defending nation unable to get better misplaced floor. The Belarusian president, Putin's ally Alexander Lukashenko, mentioned this weekend that talks between Ukraine and Russia ought to finish the warfare as a result of neither of the 2 armies can stability the stability. "Each side have a variety of issues and the general state of affairs (on the entrance) is now severely stagnant," the Belarusian dictator admitted: "Neither can do a lot to strengthen or advance their place."Observe all worldwide info Fb And Xor between Our weekly publication._ #assembly #Malta #Ukraine #acquired #assist #nations #peace #talks #phrases Read the full article

Real Estate in Saudi Arabia: A Dynamic Landscape of Opportunity
Saudi Arabia, often referred to as the "Land of Opportunity," is home to a burgeoning Real Estate Saudi sector that mirrors the nation's rapid economic development and transformation. This Middle Eastern powerhouse, known for its vast oil reserves, has been diversifying its economy, and the real estate sector plays a pivotal role in this transformation.
Economic Foundations:
The Saudi Arabian real estate market is built upon a strong economic foundation. A comprehensive plan aimed at reducing its dependency on oil, has fueled a multitude of projects and initiatives. This has not only stimulated economic growth but has also attracted domestic and international investors to the real estate market.
Residential Real Estate:
Residential real estate in Saudi Arabia is experiencing significant growth. With a rapidly expanding population and a burgeoning middle class, the demand for housing has surged. The government has taken proactive measures to meet this demand, launching initiatives like the "Sakani" program, which aims to provide affordable housing to Saudi citizens. Additionally, the development of mega-cities like NEOM and Qiddiya is expected to further drive residential real estate investments.
Commercial Real Estate:
Commercial real estate in Saudi Arabia is thriving, with Riyadh and Jeddah emerging as key business hubs. The office space market has witnessed substantial growth, driven by the establishment of various multinational companies and startups. Furthermore, the Kingdom's ambitious plans to attract foreign investments, such as the relaxation of visa rules and the creation of special economic zones, have heightened the demand for commercial properties.
Retail Sector:
The retail sector is another vibrant component of the Saudi Arabian real estate market. The Kingdom boasts a young and affluent population with a strong appetite for luxury brands and shopping experiences. As a result, shopping malls and retail centers have become focal points of investment. The Mall of Saudi, one of the largest malls in the world, is a testament to the Kingdom's commitment to fostering a thriving retail ecosystem.
Tourism and Hospitality:
Saudi Arabia is increasingly positioning itself as a global tourism destination. This shift has spurred substantial investments in the hospitality and tourism sector, leading to the development of world-class resorts, hotels, and entertainment complexes. The iconic Red Sea Project, which aims to transform the pristine coastline into a luxury tourist destination, is one such example of the nation's commitment to this sector.
Regulatory Reforms:
To encourage foreign investment and streamline the real estate sector, Saudi Arabia has implemented several regulatory reforms. The introduction of a real estate financing initiative and the creation of a comprehensive online portal for property transactions have made it easier for both local and international investors to navigate the market. These reforms have also contributed to increased transparency and investor confidence.
Challenges and Opportunities:
While the Saudi Arabian real estate sector presents immense opportunities, it also faces certain challenges. Market volatility, regulatory changes, and the global economic landscape can impact investor sentiment. Moreover, balancing supply and demand in various segments of the real estate market remains a challenge.
However, these challenges are accompanied by vast opportunities. The nation's strategic location at the crossroads of three continents, its commitment to diversification, and its economic resilience make it an attractive destination for investors seeking long-term growth and stability. The government's focus on sustainability and the incorporation of modern technologies, such as smart cities and renewable energy, further enhance the appeal of the Saudi Arabian real estate market. In conclusion, the real estate market in Saudi Arabia is a dynamic and evolving landscape. With its strong economic foundations, regulatory reforms, and commitment to diversification, the Kingdom offers a wealth of opportunities for domestic and international investors. As Saudi Arabia continues its journey towards economic transformation, the real estate sector remains a key driver of growth and prosperity, making it a compelling destination for those looking to invest in the future of the Middle East.

UN and Allies Rush to Send Aid to Sudan as the Tenuous Ceasefire Persists
Stéphane Dujarric told correspondents at the regular noon briefing that the opportunity to provide services and support to the millions of Sudanese who are suffering due to the six weeks of fighting between national army forces and their powerful rival militia, the RSF, was only feasible in areas where the ceasefire holds. Relative calm has prevailed since the truce was reached between the feuding generals, in Jeddah, a week ago, but news reports suggest that flare ups in recent days are threating the continuation of the United States and Saudi-monitored ceasefire.
Aid trucks en route
“The Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs said that some 20 trucks carrying supplies from the UN Children’s Fund (UNICEF) and the International Organization for Migration are now on their way to different parts of Sudan today.” Meanwhile, the World Food Programme has reached more than 500,000 people in nine states with food and nutrition support since restarting distributions about three weeks ago. “World Food Programme is also planning distributions in Central Darfur and Northern State. Yesterday, trucks loaded with food aid arrived in Wadi Halfa, and today in Port Sudan, World Food Programme started providing food to some 4,000 new arrivals”, Mr. Dujarric continued. According to UN agencies, six newborn babies died at a hospital in the city of Eld’aeen in East Darfur in just one week, due to problems including lack of oxygen amid electricity blackouts. The World Health Organization said that more than 30 newborns have died at the hospital since the start of the fighting, Mr. Dujarric continued. The World Health Organization is in touch with healthcare providers to see what it can do to support, he said.
Half the population needs aid
An estimated 24.7 million people, or half the population, require urgent humanitarian assistance and protection, according to the UN’s top humanitarian official in the country, Abdou Dieng. Mr. Dieng noted in a statement published late on Wednesday that this number had risen by 57 per cent since the beginning of the year. He said that aid partners have provided food for over 500,000 people in the country since the beginning of May, in addition to supplying water, healthcare and hygiene support to hundreds of thousands of displaced people, whenever access was possible. Mr. Dieng reiterated humanitarians are ready to deliver assistance to over four million in need and called on the relevant authorities to allow aid workers to move supplies “swiftly and safely”. Meanwhile, the World Health Organization said that more than two-thirds of hospitals are out of service because of fighting in Sudan, while in areas that did not see fighting, medical facilities are running low on supplies and staff, fuel, oxygen and blood bank services.
Rape, sexual violence
The UN Special Representative on Sexual Violence in Conflict, Pramila Patten, also highlighted her grave concern on Wednesday over multiple reports of sexual violence against women and girls, including allegations of rape, by combatants on both sides. “I am very alarmed by emerging reports of sexual violence in different parts of Sudan and urge all parties to the conflict to comply with international human rights and humanitarian law, and in particular, to guarantee immediate and complete cessation of all violence against civilians, including sexual violence, as per their respective commitments” made in ceasefire terms. She said it was “imperative that unfettered access to services is guaranteed by all parties”. “Issue strict command orders that prohibit sexual violence, directed at their own forces as well as groups and individuals fighting on their sideor under their command, and put in place mechanisms to adequately monitor the conduct of all armed elements they control”, she added. As exhausted war refugees form a long queue near a gate at Port Sudan airport, some look up at a large banner above showing a Muslim prayer for travellers.
After nerve-wracking days on the road at risk from Sudan's rival forces, many of them quietly recite the prayer as they hope to finally escape the country.
Civilians are still trying to flee, boarding evacuation planes with just a few belongings and leaving behind their homes, relatives and lives nearly a month into Sudan's bloody conflict.
For those queueing at the airport, after their perilous journey from Khartoum, some 850 kilometres (530 miles) away by car or bus, escape from Sudan was tantalisingly close.

But after hours of waiting, only a handful of them walked, slowly under the scorching sun, towards two planes on the tarmac, carrying children and small bags. Advertisement
Dentist Saeed Nour-Addaem Saeed, 25, was one of the lucky dozen or so evacuees who boarded an Emirati plane to Abu Dhabi.
"I was on the road for two days," said Saeed, wearing bright red shirt and white trousers, who was preparing to join his parents in the United Arab Emirates.
"I woke up to gunfire when the war broke out and I've seen horrific things since then," he told AFP.
Two years ago, despite Sudan's political turmoil, Saeed made the decision to stay after graduating from a university in the capital Khartoum, hoping to one day open a clinic.
"I don't really understand what happened. I left everything behind. My dream is broken," he said.
More than 750 people have been killed since battles erupted between the army and paramilitary forces on April 15, according to the Armed Conflict Location and Event Data Project.
Read: Fighting heaps suffering on Sudanese
About 177,000 people have fled the poverty-stricken country, while at least 736,000 are internally displaced, says UN agencies.
Safely aboard the Emirati plane, 16-year-old Abdul Rahman Ibrahim Abdul Khaleq recounted how he, his mother and sister decided to flee their home in Khartoum when the fighting closed in.
They took a public bus to Port Sudan and finally managed to board the plane. His mother was praying as it took off.
"There is no more safety, it's chaos. Many of my friends already left," said the young Sudanese, who had wanted to study electrical engineering and had plans to enrol in university.
"I think this is over now. I was actually hoping to see the country develop but now I think Sudan needs at least 10 years to regain its stability."
Those unable to escape are grappling with shortages of food and other essentials, surviving only thanks to informal charity networks.

Neighbouring nations have been providing aid supplies and evacuating hundreds of people of various nationalities since the beginning of the fighting.
On Wednesday, the same Emirati plane that carried the evacuees delivered tonnes of medical supplies.
UAE so far sent 10 planes
According to the UAE Ambassador Hamad Mohammed AlJneibi, his energy-rich country has so far sent 10 planes carrying more than 450 tonnes of food and medical aid.

"The Emirati air bridge shall continue," he told AFP.
At the Port Sudan airport terminal, anxious passengers approached officers to ask about ways to get out of the country. Some of them carried plastic bags filled with food and fruit.
Nearby, Sudan's breakdown was all too real for by Mohammed, a 70-year-old airport employee wearing a white turban who said he was waiting to receive his late pay.
"No money. Things should get better, God willing," he said in English, sitting on a bench.

Biden Wrecks Relations with Saudi Arabia
LOS ANGELES (OnlineColumnist.com), Oct. 26, 2022.--Continuing the destruction of U.S. foreign policy, 79-year-old President Joe Biden claims he had a secret deal with Saudi Arabia July 15, when he met with 37-year-old Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman. Biden once said during the 2020 campaign he would never meet with Bin Salman or recognize him as Saudi leader. Well as the U.S. and Europe began running out of oil because of the reckless Ukraine War, Biden thought he could roll the dice and get a deal with Bin Salman to increase oil production. Biden’s advisers were warning him that high oil prices could sabotage Democrats heading into the November Midterm elections. So, Biden trotted off to meet Bin Salman in Jeddah July 15 to rescue his own failed energy policy. Had Biden followed Trump’s policy of energy independence, the U.S. would not beg Saudi Arabia or Venezuela for more oil. Biden’s failures keep mounting.
Biden’s energy policies to single-out fossil fuels for extinction despite industry dependence on conventional energy has been a disaster. Biden cancelled the Keystone XL pipeline Jan. 21, 2021, only nine days after taking his oath of office. Can you imagine without thinking about the consequences of harming the U.S. oil fracking industry, Biden cancels Keystone XL to placate his Party’s radical left like Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortex? Instead of sitting down with energy experts and reasoning out a response, Biden acted impulsively canceling Keystone XL, throwing a roadblock into the fracking industry. When Biden fist-bumped Bin-Salman July 15, he thought he could out smart Saudi Arabia. Bin Salman remembers Biden blaming him for the death of Washington Post columnist Jamal Khashoggi. Biden called Bin Salman a murderer for Khashoggi’s Oct. 2, 2018 death in the Saudi Istanbul embassy.
Instead of Biden dealing with his mistakes, he said that there will be consequences to Saudi Arabia cutting back on oil production. Do other foreign countries sanction the U.S. if they get less computer chips or any other commodity? When does a world leader threaten to sanction a sovereign power when they can’t get what they want? Biden said Bin Salman was showing his loyalty to his OPEC colleague, 70-year-old Russian President Vladimir Putin. So now, the failure to produce more Saudi oil is seen as Bin Salman’s loyality to Putin. “The decisions of OPEC + are reached by the consensus of all members and determined solely by market fundamentals, not politics,” said Saudi’s energy ministry. Whatever the former ally or cooperation partner, Biden has an obsession with destroying past relations. Biden has wrecked for the foreseeable future U.S.-Russian and U.S.-Chinese relations.
Bin Salman follows closely U.S. political developments, saying recently that former President Donald Trump was much easier to deal with. With the U.S. press out to sabotage Trump at everything foreign and domestic, they accused Trump of having close ties with dictators and tyrants around the globe. So, now that Biden has wrecked U.S.-Russia, U.S.-Chinese and now U.S.-Saudi relations, why aren’t the media blaming Biden? As Bin Salman said recently, he had a good working relationship with Trump, something that can’t be said with Biden. To the fake news, every positive relationship with U.S. adversaries meant that Trump was cutting nefarious deals. Trump had excellent relations with Russia, China and eventually North Korea, something unprecedented in U.S. foreign policy. No U.S. president was able to make headway with the reclusive North Korean regime.
Biden has lashed out at U.S. adversaries like Russia and China from Day One. Now he harms U.S.-Saudi relations because the Kingdom won’t bail out Democrats with lower oil prices before the Midterm elections. How much more political does it get for the White House conducting U.S. foreign policy? Instead of working feverishly to end the Ukraine War, Biden keeps supplying Ukraine’s 44-year-old President Volodymer Zelensky with unlimited cash-and-lethal-weapons. Putin not longer battles Ukraine, he fights the U.S. who pays Ukraine to fight a bloody proxy war against the Kremlin. Biden’s highest priority should be ending the Ukraine War before it morphs into WW III or nuclear war. No one in the EU or NATO is prepared to fight Biden’s battle with Putin in Ukraine. Yet the White House and Kiev want no part of peace, only war making with the Russian Federation.
Biden’s latest kerfuffle with Saudi Arbia shows that he’s not capable of protecting U.S. national security. Whether Riyadh has a relationship with Putin should be of no concern to Biden. But Biden wants everyone to defend his proxy war against the Russian Federation. Many countries don’t like the war in Ukraine but they’re not willing to denounce Putin because they’ve built strong ties to Moscow over the years. “We have a disagreement with Saudi Arabia over the most recent production cut, but our energy policy has always focused on prices, not number of barrels—and that policy is succeeding with crude oil prices down over 30% this years allow,” said Adrienne Watson, National Security Council spokeswoman. If the U.S. wants low price and abundant supplies of oil, they need to remove roadblocks to the fracking industry and encourage more drilling in mineral rich areas.

Someone Left to Save (10)
Cal Kestis x Reader
Requested by Anon
Summary: The Mantis crew arrives to the capital of Ulfin, in the planet of Pevera, under siege. They meet the local rebel cell spearheaded by the former Republic admiral, Jax Beneb, who seeks to destroy the Empire’s occupation that was aggressively imposed upon while exploiting the planet of its natural resources. A plan is devised to destroy the Imperial’s main base of operations—as well as their influence—in the planet; however, it was a do-or-die mission that you and Cal had gotten yourselves caught in.
A/N: What isn’t strictly prohibited but you feel its illegal? Writing drafts of my fanfic in my office desktop LMAO the banking industry here can be pretty tight with their rules tho. AAAAAHH So sorry I haven’t been posting!!! For the past 2 days, I was finishing this whole chapter and I’ve gotten into like one-fourth of the next chapter!! (stay tuned! that one’s gonna be intense! ;w;)

Relying on the spies’ intel didn’t cut it anymore, so getting out there was the best course of action. You perfectly knew that this is no race against the other Inquisitors, and each Jedi is just hunted game in the eyes of the Grand Inquisitor, Darth Vader, and the Emperor altogether.
You marched to the hangar with a graceful, poised stride. When you saw the hangar officers conversing by the entrance, they stiffened at the sight of you.
“Prepare my ship!” you barked.
The mechanics and engineers scrambled to your TIE Fighter—distinguishable by its black body, a red intercrossed stripe making the cockpit look like a rifle’s reticle from the outside—you watched them inspect, recalibrate, and refuel the vehicle before confirming that it’s safe for travel.
“All engines go for your TIE Fighter, Twelfth Sister,”
“Good,”
You climbed the ladder to the cockpit and made yourself comfortable. The mechanics scurried to detach the hooks and cables strapped to the vessel as you pump up the engines. The hangar attendant waved his signal rods in front of your cockpit as you slowly hover forward, following the path the attendant is carving for you, when you inched closer to the open air you cranked the throttle’s lever and accelerated. The rotors rippled out a ring of dust and air as it slowly gained some velocity, and then you zoom out of the hangar like a black comet and out of Mons Golotha.
In less than 20 minutes, the X1 TIE Fighter’s speed hindered as soon as it entered Mons Golotha’s exosphere. Staring back at you through that cockpit windshield is the star-dotted vacuum of space.
“Okay, Cal sweetheart, where could you be hiding?” you mutter to yourself as you fire up the nav computer.
You drive the TIE forward, farther and farther away from the orbiting moon, you weren’t trying to pick up a signal—you’re trying to find some peace, ironically, in the dead blankness of the galaxy in the hopes to pick up where you left in your meditation earlier. Your grip loosened, no more than a delicate, dainty hold of the steering wheel, you let go and let yourself get lost in concentration.
The heavy, gloomy hum of space helped you drown out all of the white noise in order for you to focus better. A silent call whose echo reaches as far as the system in the ten parsecs. You struggle to recall the image of the place where you saw Cal in—that’s your next best shot in finding him.
A blinding red hue—it’s either morning or afternoon wherever he is. You could even feel the prickling heat underneath your suit.
An arid wasteland. A single city perched atop one of the mesas erected across the sandy, barren expanse.
This planet is wholly new to you.
You see Cal standing atop a mesa whose surface has cracked, brought upon by intense drought, it overlooks the small city not larger than half a quadrant of Coruscant’s city block. The image sharply jabbed its way through your skull, causing you to flick your eyelids up, and return to reality.
“Jeddah!” you gasped its name.
The place is unheard of to you, going back to Mons Golotha to check the archives would prove to be inconvenient. The next plausible move is to follow your instincts. You crane the neck of the nav computer so it faces you, then your fingers tapped away with the buttons—it was strange, though you weren’t startled, you knew exactly what its coordinates are, and so you charted your course to Jeddah.
When the computer screen glowed green and showed a map of the destination, without reluctance, you punched it—pushing the steering forward and the TIE Fighter cuts through the empty space like an arrowhead.
—–
JEDDAH
Cal sits at the edge of the exact mesa where you saw him in your vision, taking under the stout branches of a dead tree. He’s lost count of the days you’ve been gone, he wagered it to be roughly a month now—and he still hasn’t moved on, he refuses to. Gradually, his new habits have become routine to him, not that he’s gotten any better; he remains stoic, almost unfeeling, and his fighting has lost its grace.
If only you could see him now—he’s riddled with sear marks either from his pastime tinkering or the miss-by-a-hair grazes from Stormtroopers’ blasts, bruises, and brand new scars. He refuses healing from Merrin’s magick and makes do with the stims BD-1 supplies for him; but truthfully, he prefers your Force Healing. He misses the warm touch of your palm flat on his skin, wherever his injury might be, the soothing sensation might as well be a thing of the past for him.
The humid wind blows over his cheeks, red sand pricks at his freckles. He sits there, eyes closed, feeling for something cannot name yet knows wholeheartedly.
“[Y/N]…” he mouthed. The utterance of your name is carried away by the wisp of sand.
Nothing.
He yearned to feel it again. He had hoped he would.
His meditation bore no fruit due to his desperation, impatience, and a directionless, bottled up anger.
“Come on…” he growled, squeezing his eyes shut as the rays of the sun blazed through the spaces between the tree branches.
Over several parsecs away, Cal’s voice saying your name—all but a whisper—and a deep humming rang altogether behind your ears. In the first few minutes, you’re unbothered by it, until it did reach you. Your eyes on the windshield wandered, searching the skies for the source, spotting planets and moons here and there.
Cal locked in on the connection, his furrowed eyebrows now relaxed, his breathing calmed and he maintained the ideal, tranquil stillness of his meditation.
The humming grew louder, it evolved into a deeper, more baritone rumbling—like a stampede in the distance—you kept looking for its origin, but neither a single planet nor moon in the system you’re in seem to have the answer. You lent a few more minutes of listening in, hoping you’d make sense of it until you picked up the same familiar sensation as earlier.
“[Y/N]…?” asked Cal, confirming your presence through the Force.
You didn’t speak, you exploited the connection to clear out the cloudiness surrounding your objective. The red mesa in the desert appeared before your eyes, a dead tree, and the city overlooking the city sitting atop a single, erect rock pillar large enough to cradle it.
[Y/N]…! Please…!
A wicked grin snaked on your face. Your jaw clenched and your eyes had a sinister glint.
“Found you!” you hissed.
According to your nav, you’re two systems away from Jeddah. You pulled the computer by its metal neck, your fingers flying all over the keyboard as you calculate the jump to lightspeed.
Never have you ever punched the buttons on the dashboard of your fighter, you were particularly fond and careful of this TIE Fighter, though the excitement of finally spotting your prey caused you to crank the steering wheel forward so hard that the cogs inside groaned, consequently making the thrusters roar with great enthusiasm and haul the vessel at its full speed.
You grinned as you put the pedal to the metal with your fighter, you licked your lips and smirked.
“Don’t worry, sweetie, I’m coming for you.”
The young Jedi got out of the trance and he’s out of breath, exhilarated by the fact that you are alive after all this time—after all this time of defending that exact same point in every debate amongst the Mantis crew—but connecting with you felt different and eerie. BD-1 inched closer to his owner, his scanners picking up Cal’s stress levels and his increased heart rate. A single chirp caught the boy’s attention.
“It’s [Y/N], BD, but…”
“Bee…?”
“I have a bad feeling about her,”
The droid was in disbelief, BD never imagined—not even his processors and circuit board—that Cal would say that about you! He sent out a whole string of trills, questions that Cal couldn’t translate one at a time. He eased his little droid companion, gently gesturing at him to calm down.
“I think we need to tell this to Cere,”
The most concrete proof he could ever get a hold of was a connection from you through the Force. He questioned himself if Cere would believe him, considering she is the closest he can come to in terms of the ways of the Force.
Cal comes rushing back to the Mantis.
“Cere!” he started to call repeatedly when he was only a few meters away until he got into the ship.
The boy was a huffing and puffing mess when he threw himself into the ship, startling everyone and inadvertently interrupting their individual pastimes.
“Cal? What happened?” Cere had to lower her leather journal away from her face just to check on the boy.
“Are you alright?”
“Slow down, kid! It’s not like we’re leaving without you all of a sudden!”
“That’s not it!” he panted. He then turned to the older woman. “Cere, didn’t Cordova write something about having two Force-sensitive beings connecting or communicating through the Force?”
The more Cal rambled on with his queries, Cere had to put her book down on the lounge table to listen to the redheaded youngster. She knows he’s onto something—his excitement is just making slightly incoherent. Her lips parted as if to say something, but the boy is unconsciously unfurling new discoveries with the ways of the Force.
“Well, I just connected with [Y/N]!”
Greez cuts in as politely as he can. “Wai—Wait, how did you know it was [Y/N]? Moreover, what do you mean by ‘connect’?”
“Her voice!” he then remembers the eerie feeling that he put him off during the trance. “But… something doesn’t feel right.”
“About what? About [Y/N]?” Merrin joins in on the subject, curious and intrigued about your well-being, pausing from her tending of the terrarium and stepping down to the lounge table.
“So is it really her or just some random voice you heard that sounds just like her? My poor brain inside this gray head of mine can’t really grasp all of your Force mumbo-jumbo.”
“Cal, you don’t think—?”
Cal immediately refuses Cere’s theory without even letting her finish.
“No!” he bolts. “It can’t be. It’s impossible!”
“Cal, we can’t say for sure. But if you do have a bad feeling about it, then you best be prepared for what you’re about to see when she comes to you.”
There was a foreboding tone in Cere’s voice, consciously warning the boy of what’s to come. In his mind, Cal battled with himself and his inhibitions.
It’s not fair! In his mind, he whined like a child, on the verge of sobbing.
In what ought to be roughly a month and few weeks since you disappeared in Ulfin, his ecstasy in knowing that you truly are alive is instantly overridden by the fear that he cannot pinpoint yet—more like, he cannot accept yet should it be realized.
Coming out of hyperspace brought you to half a parsec away from Jeddah. In the nav, you can see the designated planet outlined in green amidst the others drawn in blue, blending in with the screen’s dark blue background.
You eased down to the regular flying speed as you close the distance between you and Jeddah. While the TIE Fighter cruises through space, passing by the neighboring planets, you cannot help but feel… bothered. Earlier, before you went to hyperspace, you were quite startled with how you behaved—you have never acted like this before. This was your very first solo campaign, as well.
Could it be excitement? For what, exactly? For doing something you want all alone—exactly how you want it? Perhaps.
Uncertainty? Because within the recesses of your being, the old you still lives albeit imprisoned?
“Enough!” you roared, leaning too hard and too fast to accidentally hit the back of your head. “Aaargh! Ow…”
You finally calmed down, for real this time, and your attention from the pain rippling across the back of your skull shifted to the repetitive bleeping of the nav computer. You leaned closer to the dashboard, peering on the screen; the radar indicates that you’re approaching the planet’s orbit. You buckle up and prepare the first phase of atmospheric entry.
Your arms flew in all directions, flicking switches and pressing buttons all over the ship—setting up the shields, applying the right amount of pressure on the steering wheel to counter the gravity, and finding the optimum speed. You close in on the bright, sunshine-gold sheen of Jeddah’s atmosphere.
The leather sank as you lean back, the turbulence made the ship rattle under your feet—the shields are doing its job to keeping the shaking to a minimum—and the TIE Fighter tore through the skies easily.
“Well, that turned out more effortlessly than I expected,” you sighed. “Now, to find you, Cal.”
The same feeling you had when you were still out in space returned, only this time, much louder and more prominent. There wasn’t a doubt that you’ve come to the right place; the connection has staled over time, perhaps Cal has given up in trying. The TIE Fighter circles in the skies in search for a specific city atop a mesa, at least a common signal belonging to it.
Along Cal’s trek, he spots your TIE Fighter—in perfect coincidence—zooming through Jeddah’s sky as a growing black speck. He squints his eyes and shades them with his hand over his brows.
“That can’t be good.”
“If this thing could hold a droid, things would’ve been much easier!” you grumbled as you manually optimized the transmitter. You sighed when no blips popped on the radar. “Might as well find someplace to land.”
At first, the ripple of the Force—barely a whisper again, drowned by the engine hum of the TIE—ran in the back of your mind. Unconsciously feeling it, you’re practically welcoming it; Cal gets the exact same feeling as he watches your TIE Fighter circle the horizon, curious what this lone fighter could be doing in some place as desolate as Jeddah.
He senses the familiarity from the TIE Figher’s pilot, of all people, and little by little he starts to think that it’s not impossible.

Pompeo Calls Saudi Attacks ‘Act of War’ as Trump Vows New Iran Sanctions https://www.nytimes.com/2019/09/18/world/middleeast/us-iran-saudi-arabia.html
Pompeo Calls Attacks on Saudi Arabia ‘Act of War’ as Trump Tightens Iran Sanctions(NOT AGAINST THE UNITED STATES) #NoMoreWars
By Richard Pérez-Peña and Edward Wong | Published Sept. 18, 2019 Updated 2:45 p.m. ET | New York Times | Posted September 18, 2019 4:30 PM |
Secretary of State Mike Pompeo accused Iran on Wednesday of having carried out an “act of war” with aerial strikes on oil facilities in Saudi Arabia last weekend, and he said the United States was working to build a coalition to deter further attacks.
Mr. Pompeo’s words were the strongest so far from any American official regarding the attack on Saturday in Saudi Arabia, which severely impaired production at the leading oil exporter and raised fears that tensions between Iran and the United States could escalate into a new war.
Despite Mr. Pompeo’s statement, President Trump pushed back against another American military entanglement in the Middle East, speaking only of unspecified new sanctions on Iran.
Asked about a possible American attack on Iran, Mr. Trump told reporters in Los Angeles: “There are many options. There’s the ultimate option and there are options a lot less than that.”
In Saudi Arabia, military officials displayed what they described as physical evidence that Iran had been responsible for the attack, but did not specify how they intended to respond or what they expected from their American allies.
The Houthi rebels in Yemen, who have been fighting a Saudi-led coalition for more than four years, have said they were responsible for the attack. Iran, a strong ally of the Houthis, has denied any responsibility. American and Saudi officials have said the Houthis had neither the sophistication nor the weapons to have carried it out.
“This was an Iranian attack,” Mr. Pompeo said. “We were blessed there were no Americans killed in this attack, but anytime you have an act of war of this nature, there’s always a risk that could happen.”
Mr. Pompeo spoke to reporters at the end of a flight to Jeddah, Saudi Arabia, where he met with Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman, the de facto leader of the country, to discuss the intelligence on the attack and actions. Mr. Pompeo also planned to visit the United Arab Emirates on this emergency trip before returning to Washington.
“That’s my mission here, is to work with our partners in the region,” he said. “We will be working with our European partners as well.”
“We’re working to build out a coalition to develop a plan to deter them,” Mr. Pompeo added.
He dismissed the claim by the Houthis that they had attacked the oil facilities. “The intelligence community has high confidence that these were not weapons that would have been in the possession of the Houthis,” Mr. Pompeo said. “As for how we know, the equipment used is unknown to be in the Houthis’ arsenal.”
Earlier at a news conference in Riyadh, the Saudi capital, the Saudi Defense Ministry showed what it described as debris from the attack site and videos that appeared to be from surveillance cameras on the ground.
“This attack was launched from the north, and was unquestionably sponsored by Iran,” said Col. Turki al-Maliki, a spokesman for ministry.
He said Saudi officials were still trying to determine exactly where the strikes had originated.
In Iran, state media reported Wednesday that American obstruction might force President Hassan Rouhani to miss the annual United Nations General Assembly next week in New York.
The attack on Saturday, which Saudi officials said involved some two dozen drones and cruise missiles, temporarily cut Saudi oil processing in half, shaking global markets and worsening the tensions between the United States and Iran that have prevailed since Mr. Trump took office.
Mr. Trump has already imposed punishing economic sanctions on Iran and some of its top officials, in what the administration has described as a “maximum pressure” campaign to force Iran to negotiate new limits on its nuclear program and stop its sponsorship of militant groups across the Middle East.
On Wednesday morning, he wrote on Twitter that he had told the Treasury secretary, Steven Mnuchin, “to substantially increase Sanctions on the country of Iran.” It was not immediately clear how extensive the latest round of penalties would be, but Mr. Trump later that details would be released within 48 hours.
Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif of Iran responded to the announcement on Twitter, writing that Mr. Trump was “escalating U.S. economic war on Iranians.”
Iran and the Houthis have described the airstrike on Saudi Arabia as retaliation for the extensive bombing by the Saudis that has killed thousands of people in Yemen.
American and Saudi officials have said that the weekend attack clearly used Iranian weapons. The Americans have also said that evidence that has not been made public points to a strike launched from Iran, to the north, not from Yemen, to the south.
“This attack did not originate from Yemen, despite Iran’s best effort to make it appear so,” said Colonel al-Maliki, the Saudi spokesman.
He also said that 18 drones hit one site and four cruise missiles hit another, and that three missiles fell short.
It was not clear how the evidence shown by the Saudis indicated that the attack came from the north, or did not come from Yemen. Nor did the Saudis make it clear whether they were saying that Iran had the kind of indirect involvement, through supplying munitions and training, that it has had in previous Houthi strikes on Saudi Arabia, or something more direct, like Iranian personnel taking part or the attack’s having been launched from Iran.
The Houthis have launched missiles at Saudi targets before, but none of the attacks had the scale, sophistication or practical impact of the one on Saturday.
Mr. Trump and Iran’s president, Hassan Rouhani, have been expected to attend the annual United Nations General Assembly session in New York next week, and there was even speculation this summer about a possible face-to-face encounter between them.
But on Wednesday, the official Islamic Republic News Agency reported that an Iranian advance team had been unable to go to New York to prepare for the meeting because the United States had not granted visas. As a result, it said, Mr. Rouhani and his delegation might not attend the gathering, which runs from Tuesday through the following Monday.
Mr. Trump has said repeatedly that he is open to a meeting with Mr. Rouhani, which would be the first between leaders of the two countries after four decades of antagonism, but Mr. Rouhani has said that Iran would not agree until the United States lifted economic sanctions.
Mr. Rouhani sent a formal note on Monday to the United States denying an Iranian role in the drone attack and warning that any American action against Iran would bring retaliation, Iranian state news media reported on Wednesday. The note went through Swiss envoys who act as go-betweens because the United States and Iran do not have diplomatic relations.
Last year, Mr. Trump withdrew the United States from the 2015 accord limiting the scope of Iran’s nuclear program, and reimposed sanctions that had been lifted as part of the deal. This year, Mr. Trump has hit Iran and Iranian officials with new rounds of sanctions.
The main penalties seek to choke off Iran’s international oil sales, the heart of its economy. They bar any company doing business with Iran from using the American banking system, whose reach is so vast that Mr. Trump’s actions apply to many overseas businesses.
After Mr. Trump began imposing more sanctions this year, several tankers were damaged near the Persian Gulf, and Western governments said they had been sabotaged by Iran, which Tehran denied. Iran has also seized several foreign vessels in or near the Strait of Hormuz, including a British-flagged tanker it has held for two months.
Analysts have described those episodes — and, possibly, the attack on Saudi Arabia — as one prong of a two-pronged strategy to pressure other nations to provide sanctions relief, by showing that Iran can interrupt world oil supplies. The other prong, analysts say, is that Iran began exceeding the limits on its nuclear program under the 2015 deal.

UAE to send fuel to France to replace Russian gas
JEDDAH: The UAE offered on Monday to deliver diesel oil to France amid fears that Russia will block gas supplies to Europe in retaliation for Western sanctions over the invasion of Ukraine.
The new move followed talks in Paris between the UAE President, Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed Al-Nahyan, and French President Emmanuel Macron.
“Collaboration across energy of all kinds is critical, and the UAE is committed to supporting energy security to all people, especially France,” Sheikh Mohammed said.
Sheikh Mohamed arrived in Paris on Monday for his first official visit outside the Gulf region since taking office in May.
He was received at the Élysée Palace in an official ceremony to meet Macron and discuss joint action in the fields of “future energy, climate change and advanced technology” and efforts to bolster regional security and stability, the state news agency WAM earlier said.
Officials from the two countries also signed a broader strategic agreement to cooperate in the energy sector. The partnership aimed to identify joint investment projects in France, the UAE or elsewhere in the sectors of hydrogen, renewable and nuclear energy, the French government said.
“In the currently uncertain energy context, this agreement will pave the way for a stable long-term framework for cooperation, opening the way for new industrial contracts,” it said.
UAE presidential diplomatic adviser Anwar Gargash said the country was “determined to remain a reliable partner and source of energy.” He said: “We have sold our oil to the Far East for 40 years, and now we are directing it toward Europe in this time of crisis.”
EU countries are braced for a Russian gas shutdown amid soaring energy prices, rampant inflation and a cost-of-living crisis in the 27-member bloc.
Russia has already cut off or reduced gas supplies to a dozen European countries. The giant Nord Stream 1 pipeline between Russia and Germany closed last week for maintenance and there are fears that flows will not restart.
Leaders have been scrambling to fill underground storage tanks to avert a winter energy crisis. Italian Prime Minister Mario Draghi is visiting Algeria, with deals to boost gas supplies from there to Italy expected to be signed on Tuesday.
Macron called last week for a faster shift toward offshore windfarms and more European cross-border energy cooperation “as we prepare ourselves for the scenario where we have to go without all Russian gas.”
Relations between the two countries date back to the establishment of the UAE Federation, as some French petroleum company, such as Total, were engaged in oil exploration in the UAE, and these relations were strengthened after the first visit of the late Sheikh Zayed bin Sultan Al-Nahyan to France in 1976.
France is one of the main foreign investors in the UAE. French direct investments in the UAE amounted to 2.5 billion euros by the end of 2020, while the UAE ranks 35th in the list of foreign investors in France.
Sheikh Mohamed’s decision to make his first official visit to France “is a conscious one that acknowledges the historic ties between the two nations but also the potential for even greater cooperation and growth with France,” Gargash said on Friday.

Biden’s Middle East Visit ‘Empty-Handed’ Despite U-turn in Stance

US President Joe Biden concluded his four-day trip to the Middle East trying to give reassurances of Washington's influence in the region, which was riposted by Chinese observers as this trip only showed that US influence in this region is declining, since Biden returned home empty-handed after none of his major goals - pushing regional countries to contain Iran, and persuading them to increase oil supplies to slash Russia's oil income - were achieved.
Moreover, the US President's repeated peddling of the so-called threat posed by China and Russia in the Middle East made the already conflict-laden region realize the increasing danger caused by the US. Experts said that making a U-turn to cozy up to Middle East countries when the US is in an oil crisis has further exposed the US' selfishness and hypocrisy to those regional countries, while choosing the wrong time for the visit which yielded few results meant that Biden's first Middle East trip was yet another huge and awkward diplomatic blunder.
In a speech during a summit with six Gulf states, Egypt, Jordan and Iraq in Jeddah, Biden said that the US will remain an active, engaged partner in the Middle East, and Washington will not walk away and leave a vacuum to be filled by Russia, China or Iran, he said.
"The US is invested in building a positive future for the region, in partnership with all of you — and the US is not going anywhere," he said, according to a transcript of his speech.
Biden made the remarks after concluding his four-day trip to the region, his first after more than a year and a half since taking office. Israel was the first leg of his four-day trip, followed by the West Bank and Saudi Arabia.
But in the eyes of Chinese experts, Biden's Middle Eastern trip was both "fruitless" and "embarrassing," as the two major goals of his administration are to coordinate regional countries to form an effective deterrence against Iran, and to push oil supply increases from Saudi Arabia in order to slash Russia's earnings from oil, a professor from the Institute of International Relations at the China Foreign Affairs University in Beijing, who requested anonymity, told the Global Times, noting that so far, none of those goals were achieved.
According to Reuters, the summit communiqué was vague, and Saudi Arabia, Washington's important Arab ally, poured cold water on US hopes that the summit could help lay the groundwork for a regional security alliance - including Israel - to combat Iranian threats.
Saudi Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman said on Saturday that there's also no guarantee the increase in oil production beyond current levels will happen, and that his country was nearly tapped out and could not produce more than 13 million more barrels per day, Politico reported.
After Biden repeatedly chided China and Russia before and during his trip, Saudi Minister of State for Foreign Affairs, Adel al-Jubeir, said in an interview with CNBC on Saturday that Riyadh will continue to bolster its partnerships with both Washington and Beijing. "We build bridges with people; we don't see one as exclusive of the other," said the minister.
Zhu Weilie, director of the Middle East Studies Institute at Shanghai International Studies University, pointed out that Biden's Middle Eastern trip sends alarming signs to regional countries, as they see clearly that the US is not trying to solve problems, but seeking to lead the already conflict-stricken region to greater discord.
The US will find it as hard to win over allies to contain China as it does in the Asia Pacific, said the Beijing-based expert, noting that China has no enemy country in the Middle East, only solid, mutual beneficial cooperation. "Plus, China won't preach to Middle Eastern countries what to do and what values they should adopt, and won't slap sanctions on them," he said.

In response to Biden's remarks, a spokesperson from the Chinese Embassy in Israel said on Saturday, "The Middle East is a land of its people, not anyone's backyard. There is no so-called 'vacuum' there."
"The Middle East is not yet tranquil, with COVID-19 posing a protracted challenge to regional development and the spillover of the Ukraine crisis affecting regional security. The people in the Middle East want development and security more than anything else. The international community, and major countries in particular, should make it a priority and work constructively to help the countries and people in this region realize development and security, not otherwise," according to the spokesperson.
As for Russia, Zhu said it is hard to edge Russia out of this region, not only because Russia has a strong presence there, but also because it shares strong energy ties with regional countries.
Right after Biden left, Russian President Vladimir Putin will travel to Tehran on July 19 for a Syria summit with his Iranian counterpart Ebrahim Raisi and Turkey's Recep Tayyip Erdogan, the Kremlin announced.
Putin's visit coming on the heels of Biden's trip aims to show that Russia is still welcomed in Middle East, and is not a pariah, as US officials called it, said the anonymous expert, noting that Putin's gesture also aims to show that it has maneuvered to compete with the US in this region.
Moreover, as Biden tries hard to win over Middle Eastern countries, they are edging closer to a truly multilateral framework that includes China and Russia. President of BRICS International Forum, Purnima Anand, said in an interview with the "Izvestia" newspaper that Turkey, Egypt and Saudi Arabia may join the BRICS International Forum "very soon."
Embarrassing Moments
Biden's administration has already been at odds with key Middle East allies such as Saudi Arabia, the United Arab Emirates, and Egypt over a range of issues, including human rights.
Experts also pointed out that the US advocacy of human rights and its ideology are insurmountable obstacles that have caused deep-rooted suspicion and distrust between US and Middle Eastern countries, which are also growing more suspicious of Washington's "self-interest first" diplomacy.
Biden's photo with the Crown Prince of Saudi Arabia also gained widespread international media attention, as he made a U-turn from calling the country a "pariah" over human rights issues to bumping fists and posing for pictures with him. "This shows how hypocritical US diplomatic policy is. Once there are interests, they can immediately stamp on their so-called values right under their feet," said the Beijing-based expert.
When bringing up the killing of journalist Jamal Khashoggi during his meeting with Prince Mohammed, the latter, apart from confirming that "what happened is regrettable and we have taken all legal measures to prevent a recurrence," also hit back by saying that "such an incident occurs anywhere in the world", highlighting "a number of mistakes" made by Washington such as torturing detainees at Abu Ghraib prison in Iraq, Al-Arabiya reported.
Zhu said that such a swift change of attitude also shows Biden's anxiety in curbing rising US oil prices. "His [Biden's] most urgent issues are inflation and skyrocketing oil prices. For every cent that oil rises in price, the Democrats lose many votes," he said.
Back home, Biden's trip was also mocked by many US media outlets, with Washington Post describing it as a "controversial trip," and that "it remains unclear whether Biden's gambit will deliver the results he is seeking."
There were reports that Biden had been torn over whether to make this trip. "It seems like it is better he hadn't made the trip, as he returned home empty-handed, has nothing to give to the voters, and it turned out to be an embarrassing diplomatic blunder in his term," said the Beijing-based expert.
