I was fortunate to live on multiple properties with lots of wild places to run off to and explore. I don't know how the hell anyone can play without some mud and sticks and leaves... Making homemade houses and tunnels for toys to live out in. Realizing when you're not allergic to poison ivy, because you're fine but when you came back in from the woods grandma gets a reaction after the hug. The science behind planning a trip out, with your dog, emergency walkie, snacks, water, and a walking stick. Poking old cow skeletons looking for a knuckle bone, taking skulls home to clean and paint. Taking your boots and socks off to slide down a 10ft bank and watching your dog leap off directly into the stream. Having to help push her up the other side. Clinging to bushes and roots to climb back up, sitting in the bright sun relaxing while your feet dried so you don't get soggy socks. Racing your dog across a field, jumping over and dodging cow patties like minefields. Mixing the perfect amount of mud, water, and dirt to make the PERFECT little bricks to make your own tiny houses. Teaching your younger cousins how to safely go on hikes and fighting 100°F temperatures and boiling sunburns. Leaping off 20ft banks into a river. Sinking underwater, holding onto a giant boulder and feeling the current try to take you with it. Sprinting around the desert, looking for a cool rock, dodging rabbit holes. Finding hidey holes, deep in brush or woods. Sucking on salt cedar leaves, using the dead ones to build thatching for your toy's new forest house. Scrapes and bruises and a line down your back where you dived under barbwire fences. The juggle of stepping between the wires without getting cut or shocked by an electric wire. Pulling up wild garlic and nibbling it. Learning which clover flowers are edible, getting to go look out in the woods to look for the plants you see in odie's books. Odie teaching you how to press flowers, obsessively seeking out your favorite wildflowers. Seeing a venomous snake, and sitting down by the creek and watching it back for half an hour. Catching bugs, catching tadpoles, catching frogs, catching fish. Sleeping on a rock overnight fishing. Getting to go to school the next morning still smelling like riverweeds and fish with so many stories. Exploring old dried up washes that can fill with water out of nowhere. Seeing the pools of water with tadpoles in the deepest ravine you've ever been in. Climbing rocks, climbing trees, climbing hay bales, tripping and falling into cacti. Being exhausted and passing out in the truck after a day of going up and down mountains.

There are so many memories out in nature that feel like they've created me. If I had only ever been confined to a plain lawn like that as a kid... I think I'd be a much different person. Kids need to explore and make mistakes and grow. They need things to play With.

it's weird how people will be like "but we need Suburban Lawn so kids can play outside!" as if basically every kid isn't bored to tears by being confined to a yard that's nothing but flat grass.

like have you talked to a kid, have you spent time with kids, do you remember BEING a kid? "playing outside" isn't about Throwing Ball 1000 times it's about squishing mud, using sticks as swords and guns, making potions from plants, catching bugs, climbing trees, and building forts from brush and branches.

A highly manicured lawn has nothing to offer the senses and brain of a developing child. If there are no "weeds," what are they supposed to gather to make into potions?? I'm not even joking, what do you, a child, DO in a yard without wildflowers and mud and dead branches. I feel like my brain wouldn't have developed correctly if my outdoor space growing up wasn't full of chicory and asters and dandelions.

At least video games offer some dim imitation of a variety of stimuli

#every now and then i think back #and i miss that #that rai was freer than i am today by miles #but that kid definitely enjoyed it to the fuckin fullest

¡Lo prometido es deuda! A continuación les dejamos la lista de personajes disponibles así como algunas aclaraciones. Las reservas se abrirán el día 10 de enero, el horario está por definirse.

Algunos personajes cuentan con edad sugerida para evitar grandes diferencias entre aquellos que son pareja, mientras que el resto pueden tomarlo de referencia para elegir una edad acorde. Les pedimos que los personajes que son obviamente mayores no sufran un gran rejuvenecimiento y que aquellos que sean poc se respete este aspecto como se pedirá en las reglas:

Las etnias/razas pueden cambiarse excepto en el caso de personajes poc, estos últimos deberán respetarse aunque con cierta flexibilidad, por ejemplo: si bien se recomienda utilizar una actriz china para Mulán, se admitirán actrices con esta ascendencia, así como japonesa, coreana o tailandesa, por mencionar algunas. En el caso de personajes como Tiana o Naveen, el pb deberá ser afroamericano o con ascendencia similar.

Los que son acompañados por un asterisco (*) en sus nombres no tienen una edad sugerida debido a que son niños-adolescentes, sin embargo, en caso de que los usuarios no se sientan cómodos llevando menores, serán los únicos que tengan permitido cambiar aspectos de su historia sin tener que encontrarse presentes otros personajes (esto se explicará mejor en el FAQ que se publicará más adelante).

It's been a rough decade for Disney Animation, and an embarrassing centennial. But this short was the silver lining around the cloud. I particularly loved how every feature Disney animated film was honoured, with some unexpected films and characters getting a spotlight, alongside some very deepcut references (I had to look up that Robin Williams Lost Boy special about the art of animation after failing to recognize his character!). I may not like every Disney animated film, but I appreciate each one and the hard work of the animators behind each entry. To see everyone honoured from Pete's Dragon, Alidar, Gurgi, Bernard the Mouse, Raya, Oliver, General Hathi, Louis the Alligator, Dumbo, Casey At Bat, Chernabog, Quasimodo, Princess Eilonwy, Elsa, Milo Thatch, Tantor, Baymax, Splot, Jim Hawkins, the Silly Symphony Dancing Skeletons, Mama Odie, Timon and Pumbaa, to a good chunk of the 101 Dalmatians is to see all the hard work of an army of artists over a hundred years honoured.

It's wonderful to see that, for once, some part of Disney loves and honours that storied past, the highs and lows, and doesn't discriminate. It's all Disney, whether it made money or not.

Looking ahead, the road is still rocky for Disney feature animation. Some shake-ups are probably required to avoid falling into another prolonged Dark Age. But whether or not that happens, or they have to suffer through further decline, I hope that the two hundred year centennial celebrates all of those works, too.

Love Interruption 2

Oops I kind of wrote a whole Sam chapter. Like I said, this thing is pretty much done. Like, 99%. I just need to edit a couple of things, maybe flesh out the case mystery. Okay, so more like 90%. I could really use a beta (hint) FINE yes it’s really more like 80% anyway hope you enjoy and again it’s really Destiel I just got sidetracked because Sam.

Sam had agreed not to speak to Dean and Cas once they boarded the 12-seater in Belize City, to keep up their cover that they were unrelated travelers once they arrived at the resort. Dean got sloppy and grabbed his arm once, on the bumpy landing, but luckily none of the other passengers seemed to notice. Sam smirked. Wuss.

He gripped his duffel on his lap and crossed his long legs at the ankle. He sat in an ancient office chair, upholstered in mustard yellow fabric. It was one of three, sad, mismatched chairs pushed along one wall of the anemically-air-conditioned trailer that served as the “airport” in Dangriga.

Sam ran his fingers through his hair and looked around for his ride again. Not that he would miss anyone in a room this size. So far the only other person to remain after the resort transportation van pulled out was the young boy whose sole job was to clear the runway and a middle-aged woman with an elaborate hairdo sitting behind a desk. She steadfastly ignored Sam, focused on her cell phone.

He must have dozed off, because the next thing Sam knew, a horn was beeping outside. He startled up to see a bright blue 1980s Toyota Land Cruiser (the FJ60, if he wasn’t mistaken-oh man, he always loved those) idling outside the door. A series of beeps told him to shake tail, and he slid out of his seat toward the door.

He grabbed for the handle of the truck, higher than normal due to some modified 35-inch tires. When he pulled himself up to slide in the passenger side, he got his first good look at the driver, a young woman with dark brown skin, her shoulder-length black twists covered by a trucker cap. She pursed her lips at him. “Are you Sam?” she asked in a vaguely English accent with a little more something mixed in that he wasn’t able to identify.

He nodded. “I was supposed to meet an Odie” he replied. He thought it was a man’s name. Like the dog in Garfield.

She scoffed at him. “Ah, that’s me, what did you think?” When Sam just regarded her stupidly for a minute she laughed. “It’s short for Melodie. Is this going to be a problem?” She raised an eyebrow at him in challenge.

Sam shook his head quickly. “No, I’m just surprised. You never mentioned it. Online.” His mind was racing back to their many late-night typed interactions, some of which had become rather lengthy and personal. He flushed quickly, suddenly embarrassed. Definitely some stuff he wouldn’t have told a woman. Stuff about his family, even Jess.

Odie sighed, putting the truck in gear. “That pretty pink blush--right there” she pointed at Sam’s cheek with one finger, clearly irritated, “is exactly why I never brought it up.”

They pulled through a ramshakle town. The blue SUV rolled slowly past people walking everywhere. The children’s brightly colored pinafores and shorts, their school uniforms, stood out against the jewel green of the mango trees and rust-colored dirt. A fair number of bicycles were also pedaled along the right-hand side of the road. Sam found that fact a bit strange, as he expected a former British colony to drive on the left.

They pulled in past the city center near the beach. “Your brother’s resort is about 20 minutes that direction by foot” Odie said, jerking her thumb to the south. Grab your duffel and come on in. I have very nosy neighbors who will be wanting to know all about the American giant I dragged in.”

Sam pulled a face at her name-calling, but was immediately distracted by Odie’s small pink cottage on stilts with bright yellow trim and a thatched roof. A bicycle leaned against the wall outside, and a surfboard flanked it on the other side of the door. As Sam circled the vehicle to retrieve his luggage, he spotted a hammock swaying between two palms on the beach side of the house.

Sam looked over at Odie, who was unloading bags of gear from the trunk. She paused to distribute some treats to her neighbor children who had gathered around. She ruffled one on the head, smacked another on the butt, and they laughed, circling Sam with curious eyes. The sun was setting behind Odie’s house. Sam realized his mouth was open. He shook his head slightly, in a daze. It was as different from the bunker as night and day.

Odie crossed the threshold, not pausing to see if Sam followed. “Let’s get some dinner started and then we’ll dive into the research.” She bustled about the small kitchen, putting away her goods, washing her hands at the sink. “Restroom’s through there; you can get washed up from your trip.”

When Sam emerged with not only clean hands but a clean face, shirt, and fresh coat of deodorant to boot, Odie met him at the table with fish cooked in foil, potatoes, sliced papaya, and Beliken beers. Sam sat and shook his head slightly at the woman who was regarding him with a raised eyebrow.

“Is this not what American hunters eat?” Odie asked, with more than a hint of teasing.

Sam just raised his Beliken in salute. Odie met his bottle across the table, and over the clink of glass Sam said, “it’s perfect.”
