This year, I’ve once again been doing my own Octobear drawing challenge! This year I decided to combine the classic inktober material with drawing bears. Here are some of my favourites so far!

Happy Tuesday, All!
We got our OctoBEAR stickers in and they look wonderful.
Tumblr media
Bowie the Genderfluid Bear had SO much fun dressing up for October and a LOT of you have asked for stickers... SO... Crowdmade offered to do them for us (because I have NO idea how to).
Here's a link if you want (and there's Hair Journal and other stickers and stuff there too)
https://crowdmade.com/collections/scottchristiansava/products/scott-christian-sava-octobear-sticker-sheet
Thanks again for all of the support and please keep letting me know other ways I can share my art with you.
Sending Big Hugs from the Hobbit Hole. ♥♥♥

I hope this makes up for all the Octobear days I've missed. Done in gouache. It's been a rough month...

In October, the youtuber Scott Christian Sava made a series called OctoBEAR where he painted a lil genderfluid bear called Bowie for 13 days
Im so happy for the genderfluid rep as a genderfluid person myself, but i couldn't buy the little card set so i made my own of Bowie ready for winter!

(I also posted it on twitter)

Please go follow Scott, he posts art shorts almost every day and his art is really good. His videos are just so wholesome and helpful!

Octobear Day 1 | Beart
So.. I did say I wouldn't do Inktober this year, because I wanted to focus on my comic. Well, instead I made a Bear themed prompt list on a whim. Hope you enjoy~

I was asked to share the "OCTOBEAR" series I did last October. I dressed up a teddy bear I named BOWIE because they are genderfluid and it seemed an appropriate name for a genderfluid teddy bear.
Each day, I would paint Bowie in a different costume for OCTOBEAR and I think everyone really liked it. Bowie dressed up as a Ghost, Michael Jackson's Thriller, Wednesday Addams, Jareth the Goblin King, Jason, Coraline, The Bride of Frankenstein, Winifred Sanderson, Beetlejuice, Edward Scissorhands (though they called themselves "Tedward Safetyscissorpaws", Sally, Freddy Fazbear, and on the last day, Bowie dressed up as Gomez Addams with their friend Octavia from the previous year's "OCTOBrrr"dressed up as Morticia Addams. Aren't they a lovely couple?

okay, real artist talk right now
i don’t particularly like my art.
not in a self-deprecating way - i don’t want to put down a thing that other people might enjoy and maybe even connect with, i hope - but in a personal way, an unsatisfied way. for a while now, i’ve had trouble motivating to make and post the kind of art i used to, because it’s felt… sterile. boring. like there are things i want to express, to connect with my art, that i just haven’t been able to find the way to do yet.
this is fine. good, even.
i’ve actually been drawing a lot in the last year. studying, practicing. sometimes, when i’m sketching, some part of what i’ve drawn will feel good. like i’m on to something. it’s this unsatisfied feeling that’s driving me to experiment, to try new things, to search for that something i’m missing. i’m glad of it.
sometimes seeing the plethora of talented artists on the internet, it’s easy to lose yourself and wonder what value you could possibly add to the thousands upon thousands of amazing artworks that are already out there. with the rise of image generation models, it’s easy to wonder at the point of continuing the endless toil of creating art. but, for me at least, i know that these new technologies will never be able to replace creating for me - they’ll never be able to solve this feeling of dissatisfaction, they’ll never be able to find that nameless “thing” i’m my art i’m looking for.
anyway, i’m posting this here on tumblr under the read more because i think there is this well-meaning, knee jerk reaction online when an artist says, “i don’t like my art”, to cry out “noooo, your art is so good! 💕💕 don’t say it’s bad!!1”
and for the most part, I think it’s good to encourage people not to put themselves down every time they share their new creations. but i also think it should be okay for artists to talk about it when they’re not satisfied with the process - we all feel it, don’t we? at some point? and i think that’s okay. for me, at least, it’s motivating me to keep pushing. there’s a lot i /do/ like about my recent art, too! i really loved a lot of my octobear art last fall, i feel like i made some big breakthroughs when i did that challenge. so i’ll keep pushing. and hopefully someday, i’ll find the special part of my art and myself that i’m looking for.
